Switch databases during runtime

Hi
We work with JDeveloper 10g Build 1929 and Oracle 10g as database.
We use JDBC Datasources as Connection Type, which obviously means that the database connection parameters are set via data-sources.xml.
DataSources.xml:
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
<!DOCTYPE data-sources PUBLIC "Orion data-sources" "http://xmlns.oracle.com/ias/dtds/data-sources.dtd">
<data-sources>
<data-source
     name="jdev-connection-DB1" username="test1" password="test1" url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@test1:1521:test1" inactivity-timeout="30"/>
<data-source
     name="jdev-connection-DB2" username="test2" password="test2" url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@test2:1521:test2" inactivity-timeout="30"/
</data-sources>
In my application I have an applicaiton module named "TestAM". During runtime, I want the TestAM to be connected to "jdev-connection-DB1" for some time and I want to switch to "jdev-connection-DB2" for some time.
Is it possible to switch databases during runtime?
Thanks

Hi
I used dynamic JDBC credentials in my application (i.e.) user enters the username and password for the database before entering into the application.
I was using "JDBC data source" as Connection Type. But dynamic database credentials did not work. But it worked for the Connection Type "JDBC url".
But if I have the connection type as "JDBC URL" and if I use
Configuration.createRootApplicationModule
in my code I get the following error:
oracle.jbo.JboException: JBO-29000: DB Connection Failure

Has any one faced the same issue?
Please help....

    Hello,
    We are using crystalreport 2008 and BOE XI 3.1.
    I open crystal report from crystalreport using hyperlink and opendoc in java. This is working fine if I define db credentials in CMC, but I need to use different databases based on the parameter.
    How can I achieve switching database using opendoc?
    Thank you.

  • Accessing values in Value Mapping from JDBC database during runtime.

    Hi all,
    I have a query here.
    Actually we have to populate the value mapping from a JDBC database, I've gone through the blogs but all of them expalin the value mapping replication process where in SAP tables are the source and it includes ABAP programming, where as my source system is a JDBC database.
    Please provide me with the detailed steps to be carried out in IR and ID to accomplish this task.
    Thanks once again.

  • Switch database in Crystal Report 2013

    Hi All,
    I have Crystal Report 2013 and my client require to connect multiple database with single report. I have more than 10 MySql database and all database structure are same.
    E.g. Create one report Employee Detail and connect using ODBC (RDO) I have successfully connected my single MySql database. Now I need to use this report for another database.
    My question is how to switch database at runtime?
    Anybody help me please.
    Thanks.

    You can create either a .NET or a Java app to schedule or view the report - it would connect in to the CMS and handle things from there.  It's not difficult to set the database connection in code.  Your best bet for additional help will be to look here:  http://scn.sap.com/community/bi-platform/microsoft-net-sdk or here:http://scn.sap.com/community/bi-platform/java-sdk.  There is sample code available in both places as well.
    Also, while I know that the utility Ido is referring to  will work with Crystal reports, I'm not entirely sure it will work with reports that reside in CRS.  So, you'll need to review it closely to determine whether it will work for you.

  • How does one empty an array during runtime with a front panel switch

    I can 'empty array' from the front panel during runtime but I want to empty all arrays (20) from my vi with a front panel switch (see screenshot). I have used replace array subset and reshape array with no success. Any help would be appreciated

    Hmm... You can empty an array by reshaping it or by assigning a constant empty array - using local variables or properies of the original control (see attached example... hmmm... not the best one ). May be you can attach a part of your code to see what is better to do in the given case.

  • Changing Changing Database Location During Runtime

    I'm using Netbeans 6.0.1. My database location ALWAYS change in place. That's why I'm planning that there would be a "Database Settings..." inside my program. But I don't know how to change the current: user, password, url settings of my program DURING RUNTIME. Here's my persistence.xml:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <persistence version="1.0" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_1_0.xsd">
      <persistence-unit name="LibraryPU" transaction-type="RESOURCE_LOCAL">
        <provider>oracle.toplink.essentials.PersistenceProvider</provider>
        <class>desktopapplication2.Books</class>
        <properties>
          <property name="toplink.jdbc.user" value="root"/>
          <property name="toplink.jdbc.password" value="password"/>
          <property name="toplink.jdbc.url" value="jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/Library"/>
          <property name="toplink.jdbc.driver" value="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"/>
        </properties>
      </persistence-unit>
    </persistence>

    To solve the "why the hell would I want that stuff inside a jar file" issue, I googled a bit and found this
    style of approach in a Oracle forum. Essentially think of the persistence.xml file as an template
    that the program uses.
    I use a properties file to set all local DB configuration aspects. Load the properties at application
    startup and set then extract the required fields into a Map to create the persistent unit.
    All the "examples" I seen always use a static xml which is never what you need in the real
    world.
    Map properties = new HashMap();
    properties.put(TopLinkProperties.JDBC_URL, dbProps.getString("abc.jdbcurl") );
    properties.put(TopLinkProperties.JDBC_DRIVER, dbProps.getString("abc.jdbcdriver"));
    properties.put(TopLinkProperties.JDBC_USER, dbProps.getString("abc.user"));
    properties.put(TopLinkProperties.JDBC_PASSWORD, dbProps.getString("abc.password"));
    EntityManagerFactory emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("abcPU", properties);
    entityManager = emf.createEntityManager();

  • Switch Search Help during runtime

    Hi,
    Can we assign search help at runtime depending on user input? I have s drop-down box, depending on user's choice, i need to siplay different values in the search help. Can I assign search help to the screen element during runtime???
    Please help.
    Thanks,

    No, but you can build F4 help on the fly at runtime based off another field.
    For example, in this program, the user enters the sales order number, and then when they do F4 on the line item, they can only choose from valid line item numbers.

  • Facing problem while changing the database at runtime

    hi everyone,
    Before posting this thread, i have gone through the various posts addressing the problem....but still iam unable to get the solution for this problem.
    The report has been generated in one system, so the database properties (connection string....) are hardcoded in the report file...
    Now when iam trying to change the database, it is still connecting to the system where the report file was created.
    I have tried the changeDatasource() method, but it didnot worked....

    In the report i have two tables.............so before changing the database properties for each table iam printing their names.
    The names are dispalyed correctly.......but once i set the table location...i.e through the following method..
    clientDoc.getDatabaseController().setTableLocation(tables.getTable(i),newTable);
    every time i can see only one table i.e. properties are set for the first table ........and each time the properties are being set for the first table only.....i dont no what is happening to the rest of the tables..
    I have posted the method in the above post.....can any one please trace out the problem
    Note: when i comment the following code, i can see all the tables
    clientDoc.getDatabaseController().setTableLocation(tables.getTable(i),newTable);
    when i uncomment it, i can see only first table repeating every time...

  • Displaying employee photo during runtime

    I form for employee master and i want to store all employee photo in file and have them displayed during runtime from the file
    directory. That is when i query for an emp_no

    null

    You'll have an image-item in your form and use read_image_file built-in. The image file has to be on the local client or on a network drive the client is connected to, and that will be quite a problem.
    Another way to do, which is, by far, better is to have the image stored in a longraw column of a table in your database, as I did and it isn't too difficult.
    Or, eventually, use BLOBS - which I haven't done so far.

  • Change XSD / XML dataset during runtime and display texts in field explorer

    Hi there,
    I am changing the datasource of a report during runtime. Afterwards, I would like to change the texts of the fields appearing in the field explorer.
    I tried:

  • Extending enums during runtime

    Hey folks,
    i have a question concerning enums. Is it possible to extend enums during runtime? For example i have following enum:
    public enum MyValues
    VALUE1, VALUE2, VALUE3
    }is it possible that i have a method for example which adds VALUE4 and VALUE5 to this enum???
    Thanks alot.
    Ohno

    No, it wouldn't make sense.
    The point of enums is that the possible values are known at compile time so that you can, for example, use them as switch cases.
    If extra values are being added at run time you probably want some kind of Map.

    I am a beginner of GUI. Now I am trying to change a specific component, a button, when the application is running. For example, I have 3 buttons in a JPanel. Each button has its onw icon. If I click one of them, it will change its icon, but the other two don't change. I don't know if there is any method for changing a specific component during runtime. If any one knows please let me know, I will appreciate that very much!!!

    What you're going to have to do is loop inside the actionlistener but still have accessability to click while its looping. I don't know much about it, but I think you're going to need a thread. Try something like this... (it doesn't work yet, but I have to take off)
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    class buttonxdemo extends JFrame implements ActionListener{
      Buttonx mybutton;
      //set it all up, make it look pretty  =]
      public buttonxdemo()
           mybutton = new Buttonx("default");
           getContentPane().add(mybutton.thebutton);
           mybutton.thebutton.addActionListener(this);
           this.setDefaultCloseOperation(3);
           this.setSize(200,200);
      public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae){
        if (ae.getSource() == mybutton.thebutton)
             if (mybutton.keepGoing)
               mybutton.keepGoing = false;
                else if (!mybutton.keepGoing)
                     mybutton.keepGoing = true;
          mybutton = new Buttonx(/*Icon,*/"My Button");
          //getContentPane().remove(mybutton);
          //getContentPane().add(mybutton.thebutton);
          mybutton.startstop();
      }//actionperformed
      static void main(String args[])
           new buttonxdemo().show();
    } //movingicondemo
    class Buttonx extends Thread{
      public boolean keepGoing;
      //public Icon ICx;            //perhaps an array, so you can loop through?
      public String strbuttonx;
      public JButton thebutton;     //may have to extend JFrame?
      public Buttonx(/*Icon IC,*/ String strbutton){
        //ICx = IC;
        strbuttonx = strbutton;
        thebutton = new JButton(strbuttonx);
      public void startstop()
        int i = 0;
        while (keepGoing)
          thebutton.setLabel(strbuttonx.substring(0,i));
          //if an array of Icons ICx
          //thebutton.setIcon(ICx);
    i++;
    if (i > strbuttonx.length() - 1)
    i = 0;
    try
         Thread.sleep(1000);
    catch (InterruptedException ie)
         System.out.println("sleep caught: " + ie);
    }//startstop()
    }//buttonx

  • How do I create multiple objects during runtime?

    I don't know how to create multiple objects during runtime, here's my problem:
    I get a String as input. Then I create an object called newobject. I put the object in a hashtable with the above string as key.
    Then comes the problem, in order to create a new object, I have to rerun the same class, which uses the same name (newobject) to create a 2nd object. Now my hashtable doesn't reference to my 1st object anymore...
    Is there anyway I can fill up the hashtable with different objects, and make each key point to each object it was supposed to?
    For those who want to see a bit of the program:
    public class PlayBalloon{
    public Hashtable ht = new Hashtable();
    for(){
    Balloon pB = newBalloon;
    newBalloon=new Balloon(pB);
    ht.put("Some input from user", newBalloon);
    for(){
    ht.get(s).draw;<= s=string, draw=own meth. in Balloon
    }

    I think i can see the problem that you are having. You have, in effect, duplicate keys in your hashtable - ie, two strings used as keys with the same name.
    The way that a hashtable works is as follows...
    When you ask for a value that is mapped to a key it will go through the table and return the first occurence it finds of the key you asked for. It does this by using the equals() method of whatever object the key is (in your case it is a String).
    If you cant use different Strings for your keys in your hashtable then i would consider writing an ObjectNameKey class which contains the String value that you are trying to put in the hashtable and an occurrence number/index or something to make it unique. Remember to override the equals method in your ObjectNameKey object or else the hash lookup will not work. For example
    class ObjectNameKey {
        private String name;
        private int occurence;
        public ObjectNameKey(String name, int occ) {
            this.name = name;
            this.occurence = occ;
        public String getName() {
            return name;
        public String getOccur() {
            return occurence;
        public boolean equals(Object o) {
            if (!(o instanceof ObjectNameKey)) {
                return false;
            ObjectNameKey onk = (ObjectNameKey)o;
            if (onk.getName().equals(name) && onk.getOccur() == occurence) return true;
            return false;

  • How to determine the target system during runtime of a Generic DS?

    Hi Experts, good afternoon.
    I am coding a Generic Extractor using Function Module. I have to select the field TIMESTAMP on table ROOSPRMSC. To do so, I need the value of RLOGSYS that is the BW system that is calling the Extractor.
    Do anybody knows how to determine via ABAP the RLOGSYS (Remote Logical System) during the runtime of the Generic DataSource Function Module?
    The table ROOSPRMSC keep the TIMESTAMPs values of the last delta upload for each DataSource and for each BW target system. As I have 2 BW's loading data from the same SAP ECC system, I need to know, during runtime of my Generic DataSource, the actual system that is requesting the delta. That's the reason why I need to know the BW's logical system name that is "runnig" the delta InfoPackage.
    Plese, help!!!
    Thanks in advance!
    Leandro Vani

    Leandro,
    The calling program of your FM should have a local variable I_RLOGSYS which is populated with the BW server ID.
    If you don't know how to access a variable in a program that is in call stack using field symbols, search SDN.
    I haven't tested this, so you may have to explore a little.
    Good luck.

  • How to pass the Bound values to VO SQL Query during runtime?

    Hi all,
    I have the following sql query;
    SELECT NOTIFICATION_ID
    FROM xx_NOTIFICATION_V
    WHERE COMPANY = NVL(:1, COMPANY)
    AND INITIATOR = NVL(:2,INITIATOR)
    AND PAYGROUP = NVL(:3, PAYGROUP)
    AND SOURCE = NVL(:4, SOURCE)
    AND SUPPLIER_NAME = NVL(:5,SUPPLIER_NAME)
    AND TRX_DATE BETWEEN NVL(:6,TRX_DATE)
    AND NVL(:7,TRX_DATE)
    If i click GO button on search page then it pass the selected Poplists values as a Bound values to VO Sql query at runtime after this I store the search results in a Table(Which is created by using New Region Wizard).
    I want to pass the Bind parameter values to VO SQL query during runtime and :1,:2,:3,:4,:5,:6,:7 values are coming from Poplists.
    I search through forum I found many threads regarding Bind Values but those all are passing ID's only not String(Varchar) values.
    How to pass the Character values to VO Query.
    Please anyone help me on this.
    Thanks in Advance.
