Switching underlying database for existing application

I am exploring the possibility of switching database(from Oracle to Mysql) for an existing application, assuming both database have identical data structures.
Obviously we might need to remap some datatypes, and create links manually. Is there an efficient way of doing this without much breakage?

User, you have to do mou re then just alter some data types. You have to change the Mets data too as you otherwise run into trouble when you run the application. Some interaction is calculated at runtime depending on the db type and data types chosen when you started the project.
Then you have to leverage the different functionality of the dbs. If you have used db specific functions in your java code, you have to reactor this code too.

Opensource database for Mobile application development

Not sure if i should use a database for my application?

Not sure if i should post here or not..
But my problem is that initially i planned to use a database to map my application logic so that it can keep information after the app shuts down and i would get it back the next session i open my app. My application is shared across netwrok therefore i thought it would make sense to use a database. I know i can use Serialization to keep state but that only does it for current location hence i opt to use a database.
But now thinking back i'm not pretty sure afterall if i just have my app updating the database for no other use apart from using it to keep state from my app across network.
So - do current software application out there use a database as a datasource alot? If so how are they using it?

But saying this again: all my use of database is just mapping the application logic (model). So essentially it use is just like a backup.
After reading that link you gave me: does that mean it is very common that most software system out there uses any database of some sort to store any information as small as smallest peice of information you get?

Weblogic.Deployer using -deploy for existing application

I'm running on weblogic 8.1 SP3
when I use -deploy for an existing application the documentation says it will do a redeploy.
documentation for the targets option says that it will use existing targets for an application that is currently deployed.
BUT it doesn't work. Is this a known issue ?
I use the following options:
-name fortune
-source /data/bea81/applications/stg/fortune.ear
-verbose -debug -deploy -stage

Check to see if the problem is with the Deployer tool or myApp.war:
1) Does myApp.war deploy using the console?
2) Check myApp.war has all the classes it needs?
If your app does deploy from the console then we can focus in on the Deploy tool. If not it may help give us a clue as to what is going on e.g. your war file missing classes.

Application Switcher: no icons for open applications.

After updating to OS 10.6, when I use the application switcher (command + tab) no icons appear for the applications I have already opened. I have only finder icon.

Drag that file form the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.

Using 9iAS Database for BI Applications?

We have a 9205 Database that is serving as our data warehouse. I have created several servlets and java client classes using BI Beans and JDeveloper. I want to deploy them using 9i Application Server. The 9iAS install installs another database. Should I use the database that 9iAS installs instead of my pre-existing database, or keep using the 9205 warehouse and have two complete databases on the same machine?

I have used HSQLDB for awhile. I have found it to be very useful, though I've mostly used it for simple, read-only databases. Definitely what I would recommend for your situation.

Common Supplier master database for Custom Applications and Oracle Financia

We would like to build a custom applications (Multiple) for our organization core business operations using .NET on the database which is being used by Oracle financials R12.1.1. These custom applications are going to have its own application servers. BUT the database is common for both custom applications and oracle financials. This database is going to house on the Oracle RAC.
We would like to have a common supplier master for both custom applications and Oracle payables. Could you please help me with below questions?
1. How to create/Update/Query the supplier records in the supplier master tables provided by Oracle financials using custom applications?
2. How can we store the additional data elements needed by each custom application? We can't use the DFF on the supplier tables as the data elements for each custom application is going to be different. even though they use same supplier.
3. We might have multiple supplier with same name but different FEIN/SSN numbers. As per the design Oracle financials doesn't allow the same supplier name entered multiple times even though FEIN/SSN number is different. How can we workaround this limitation?

A: You may use Supplier Open interface and Sites Interface to Create the Supplier Records. I don't think there is any API to update Supplier Info. Since both the applications exist on same database, I think you can query the Vendor tables from Custom applications also.
2. How can we store the additional data elements needed by each custom application? We can't use the DFF on the supplier tables as the data elements for each custom application is going to be different. even though they use same supplier.
A. Designing different tables depending on Custom Application ID and Vendor ID seems to be the only option.
3. We might have multiple supplier with same name but different FEIN/SSN numbers. As per the design Oracle financials doesn't allow the same supplier name entered multiple times even though FEIN/SSN number is different. How can we workaround this limitation?
A.One alternative is to create a single supplier with each FEIN/SSN number as site. Second one is to create Supplier Name concatenated with FEIN/SSN numbers as different suppliers and store the actual name in some DFF or other field. Standard functionality won't allow such duplication (Cannot Create Supplier/Employee With The Same Name Of Existing Supplier [ID 743430.1]).

How to set up database for form application in app. server 10g r2

I get user compiled fmb file.
I did not find componant in app. server.
However, I can see form server ment with 3 subitem : form compiler, formmigration and run form on the web.
The form application is supported by database. Other person already configured server for application .
I put a URL in URL field in run form on the web. I can see install ed successfully! Oracle application Server. Forme server. Oracle application server 10g. title: welcome oracle application server
after clicked OK button, the page is grey blank without any inforamtion to be displayed. No error message. status bottome as done. the page title as Oracle application server form server.
SO I think that i need to creade a datasource in app. server.
But I do not know how to fill field.
I can log into database from SQL*plus in server PC.
In datasource page in app. server: i copy a default ORCALEDS information
with new ID and password. it does not work

Loading caches from database for old application

Hi,
I clearly understand synchronization of DB with Coherence, if we do insert/update/delete records from both DB and Coherence, but as i understand this way is useful only if Coherence exists, from the time when the first record was created by Application.
Is there any way to populate records for an existing/old DB to Coherence? If not, making small Java application that retrieves records and puts to Cache is acceptable?

From your description, my understanding is that you want to create an Access database using an existing SharePoint list.
In SharePoint lists, there is a button called "Open with Access". You can synchronize the data in a SharePoint list with Access 2010 by using the Open with Access command in the list ribbon. This command creates an Access table linked to the SharePoint
list, and a supplementary UserInfo table that contains additional information, such as user names, accounts, and e-mail addresses.
You can also link a table to an existing SharePoint List by using the SharePoint List command in the Import & Link group on the External Data tab.

Using simple database for an application

Hello,
Here is my need :
I will develop an application based on two or three gui-clients java based and a database (all on linux based system).
What choice for the database ?
First I had a look on javadb, I was interested by the easy to use aspect and the embedded mode. But I have two applications that have to access the database in the same time and javadb has to be used in a "framework server" to accept multi-user (and this seems to be too complex for my use).
The database will be very simple (4 or 5 tables and 1000 lines in the biggest table) and has to be shared between 2 ou 3 apps.
I had a look on SQLite but the use of JNI obstructs me.
Do you have other ideas to answer to my need ? Is there a way to share the file system where the data files of javadb is (by NFS for example) ? And start two derby service using the same files in two different JVM ?

I have used HSQLDB for awhile. I have found it to be very useful, though I've mostly used it for simple, read-only databases. Definitely what I would recommend for your situation.

In my understanding this means that if I wanna create two databases (collection of tables), which are called 'schemas' in Oracle I also have to create 2 database users.Yes. But these will be logical database schemas. Not end user schemas. For example, you can create a HR schema for a Human Resources database. You can create a MARKETING schema for the Marketing database. (yes, you will use the CREATE USER command to create these 2 logical database schemas - and you would use the same command to create a user schema, developer schema, or any other type of schema)
The HR schema can be specifically setup for the HR database requirements. A space quota of 10Gb. The ability to create tables and stored procedures and views.
Likewise, the MARKETING schema can be setup specifically for marketing. They may need a 50Gb space quota. This database may use object relational features and also need the rights to the SQL advance data types. Etc.
If you want to use the HR database, you can logon as the HR schema. If you want to use the marketing database, you can logon as the MARKETING schema.
Or you can create a user schema - and for this schema user to select tables from the HR database, the HR schema needs to grant specific rights (like select, update, delete and insert) to the user schema on those tables.
Do not let this confuse you. A schema can be many different things, depending on WHAT it can do and HOW it is used. And both these you determine when creating the schema and its rights and its contents (if any).

Updating War File for existing Application Issue

I have a web application that is currently deployed and running on a linux SunOne WebServer 7.0 U2.
I use the web admin interface to update the (running) web application with a new WAR file and using the "PreCompile JSP" option.
Once the web application has been updated and deployed, I get a 500 server error on the web application. Here is a snippet from the log.

after more research I have determined that the update process is deleting the loader folder when it completes the update process. The problem is that the web application needs this folder because the third party tag library definitions are stored underneath the loader folder. Here is where the loader folder is located.
/<SunOneInstallDir>/<ServerName>/generated/<web-app-name>/<context>/loader
When I stop the server instance and start it back up then the loader folder is created and sets the tab library definitions appropriately.
So the problem seems to be with the update process.

Create service under Windows for SUn application server 8.2

I am trying to create a service on a Windows Server 2003 with the sc utilities. I am following the doc's syntax

The command does not complete. Why are there double backslash?

Take a look at the sample provided there and adjust it for your installation path if necessary - there are no double backslash characters and this should work. Post if you are still running into problems.
