  • Synching feeling... iPhoto 11 and Facebook OS 10.7.5

I'm hoping there's a simple fix to an annoyance.
I load photos from iPhoto into my wife's FB account, then she adds little descriptions under some of the photos on her computer.
All of a sudden, my basic file names (from my camera) are getting wiped out and replaced by her descriptions, in my iPhoto library. If I "revert to original" — wiping out any editing I've done — the original photo file name returns. I'm not sure what it does to her FB captions... but I imagine they are wiped out.
What's going on — and is there a fix? I like my file names.
Hmm... small screen shot. If it isn't readable on your screen, Cntrl-mouse-wheel spin to enlarge — (or Command+). Note normal file name on left and FB'd name on right.

Stop using iPhoto to upload to FaceBook - as documented that syncs changes made either place to the other place - If that is not wha tyou want hen do not use it - upload using a browser or non-Apple FaceBook uploader

  • After IOS 8 upgrade on phone, documents no longer synch in Pages.  I find out subsequently that when I upgraded it gave me iCloud Drive, which won't synch unless my computer has OSX Yosemite, which isn't available.  Apple says they can't get me back.

Apple upgraded me to a new IOS that has now eliminated my ability to synch Pages docs which I've been using quite successfully.  So now every time work in pages it tells me that my documents won't synch and to "upgrade to OSX Yosemite."  The problem:  Yosemite IS NOT AVAILABLE yet.  Will they let me go back to the old way until Yosemite is available?  No they will not.  I'm stuck with devices that won't work together.  I recall no warning that by upgrading to IOS8 would mess up my ability to use my devices as intended -- that my devices would be less compatible.  I feel duped and manipulated.  And to clarify, I only updated on my phone.  Once I saw (subsequent to update) that my synching of docs would no longer work, I decided not to upgrade my iPad mini.  But guess what -- just updating my iPhone has now changed me to iCloud Drive and that means that all of my devices are incompatible.

That happened to me. I rebooted and now my docs are back again.

  • Had difficulty with synching music. Music was deleted when I changed/added new info.  Had to start over.  So...I checked procedure and it say if you change anything, hit the apple button.  Which one?  Never had to do this previous to the new operatin

I was having trouble with synching my iphone 5 since the new operating system was installed.  But I was waiting for my 6+ and figured it would be solved with my dandy new phone.  No such luck.  I downloaded a great deal of music and then added to it and synched again.  Music gone, except paid for stuff bought on the phone.  So I added more and tried to load it again, and it did.  But now, I was afraid to add anything, backup,  and synch for any reason as it takes 12 hours + to load my music.
So, I went back to basics and looked up the procedure.  It does say that if you make a change, " you should hit the apple button before you synch."  Which one?
No info on what they mean.  And clearly this is a change.  I'm feeling stupid, but lately, Apple makes changes and expects you to intuitively figure them out.  I usually do but was stumped here.  It might be nice to get a heads up when changes occur.
    Please help !
Oh and also, I can't seem to download ringtones I have created.

I am syncing my iphone to my iTunes account and then I do a backup and also making sure all updates are current.  Then by going to the my phone and then going to the right and selecting the restore my iphone.

  • Synch and connect Problems after upgrading to latest version 7.6.1.9 itunes

    OK... this is getting painful!!!!!!!!
    1. Has worked for 6 months flawlessly....
    2. Upgraded Apple TV to the latest update - 2.0 - new look and feel.
    3. Said I now needed to update iTunes to latest
    4. Updated itunes to 7.6.1.9
    5. Apple TV still showing in iTunes. Went to synch - "got apple TV not responding port 3689".
Apple TV could still connect to movie trailers, youtube, everything,
    6. Tried repairing iTunes 7.6.1.9 with install. Had to reenter Apple TV password. Showed in device list - still same not responding error.
    7. Uninstalled iTunes - reinstalled - along with cycling Apple TV. Apple TV showed in device list - not responding still.
    8. Verified firewalls - non enabled just for a sanity check. I've kept all firewall stuff off. Still same issue.
    9. Tried Edit/ Preferences/ Sharing/ Share my library on local network. Nothing
    10. Verified "Look for Apple TVs" enabled and mine shows in list. Still nothing.
    11. Turned Airport Expres in Apple TV off. Cycled everything... itunes, Apple Tv... nothing... Turned it back on....
    12. In Apple TV I synched to local itunes.... Apple TV now got fully erased. as I expected, but did not care just wanted it to synch to the new content.
    13. Reset the Apple TV to factory settings...... It showed in the Itunes for a few seconds, but not enough time for me to put in the password. I've recycled everything again. For the life of me I can't get it to now show consistently in the device list..... My wireless works flawlessly browsing the internet. I've done netstat checks to verify the ports and everything seems as it always has. IT HAS TO BE THE UPDATES!!!
There should be no application conflicts, because this machine has only been used to synch my Apple TV, nothing has been installed in a while, except iTunes!
I'm about to bring it back........
    Any other thoughts out there?

    Resolved.
After verifying my network configurations, which was fine, I started to look at the services loaded on the machine. I noticeced BLACKICE running! Once this service was stopepd, things went smoothly.
I do still notice that the synch lasts only for so long and then disconnects the device. I have to restart iTunes to kick start the synch again. Still a little painful, but at least I can loat the Apple TV.

  • Multiple OS issues with Email set up; "People" ; Synching phone not working as advertised

    Nokia Lumia 822
    Purchased yesterday (2/10/13)
So far I have spent 14 hours attempting to resolve what feel like endless errors and bugs. If I can;t get these resolved in the next 48 hours the phone goes back. I am so disappointed  I waited especially for this phone - heard great stuff. My experience is it sucks. Worst phone ever.
    1) POP3 email accounts are non functional. I have attempted to set up and delete and re-set up now multiple times. Each time presents a fresh new nightmare.
Issue 1 - Email account  receives email but will not send. Error message goes something like  <" Problem sending message. Message failed to send. Problem with Files or Data on your device." >
Issue 2 - Tapping email + accounts sends me back to start screen cannot even set up account
Issue 3 - I  get to add email account I enter my information but no account is created
Issue 4 - I set up an account and I get an error message stating my information cannot be found.
Issue 5 - trying to open email from start screen just resets to start screen  over and over and over NEVER opens the account.
These are deal breaker issues. I have multiple email accounts on different platforms. If I cannot access my various emails AND send from those accounts this is NOT the phone for me.
    2) PEOPLE does not function. ALSO multiple various issues and never the same one twice.
Issue 1 - I tap on a contact and get sent to the start screen over and over and over  and over again.
Issue 2 I tap on a contact and the phone freezes and wont respond unless I pull the battery
Issue 3 I open a contact and make an edit, save the contact but the change is never reflected in the list
Issue 4 I try and search for a contact and the search freezes - only option is to return to start screen
    3) Scrolling thru any APP randomly takes me back to start screen.
I dread attempting to synch Outlook calendar and contacts on my PC to hotmail - especially if I can't even set up email. And it seems like even holding it will jettison me out of anything I'm doing and back to start screen.
If I can't get these issues resolved.  look like I'll be going  back to my 3 year old Blackberry Bold which performed flawlessly. It may not be the most impressive phone out there but it did what I needed it to do with out any issues.

Interesting Twitter conversation VZWSupport on Twitter.  It was suggested to try a HARD reset - and if that doesn't work take the phone back.
Since I don;t have anything set up yet  that's my solution.
I see a BlackBerry Z10 in my future

  • Is it possible to synch and stream from the same iTunes library?

We have two Powerbooks in the house, each one contains our own individual iTunes library. Powerbook 1 is synched to ATV. Powerbook 2 just streams to ATV. Because each Powerbook can obviously be moved to different parts of the house, we want to be able to stream each iTunes library to ATV (in the living room) AND play the same library out of the Powerbook in a different room.
When using our iPhone Remote to select the iTunes library on Powerbook 2 (the 'streamer'), an "Airplay" section appears at the bottom of the "Settings" screen which allows the output device to be selected as the Powerbook and/or ATV - meaning that the same music can be played through both devices in different parts of the house - great!
However, the same "Airplay" section does not appear at the bottom of the "Settings" screen when the iTunes library on Powerbook 1 (the 'syncher') is selected - and the music just plays through the Powerbook 1, not ATV - not great!
Is this somehow because it's not possible to stream the Powerbook 1 library to ATV because it has been synched? It feels as though there must be a simple way around it?
Message was edited by: Nic C.

you can sync multiple macs to one ATV, one at a time. use the Finder and set up your first itunes library. make a folder and give it a name. then drag that itunes library file into that folder. launch itunes and make another library synced to the same ATV. Make a folder give it a name. The only issue is remembering to drag out the proper library, don't change the library name because it is not a one to one relationship.
I never tried multiple libraries at the same time to one ATV but I am doing one Mac to two ATVs, each with their own library and synced.
Helps me keep track of my library and then my wife's.

  • At a loss - Two Sr. Tech's have abandoned me, still no synch

Purchased my iPad 64GB in late June, got it up and running and promptly went on vacation. Gone for almost two weeks, created some files while away that were important to me.
Returned home, plugged in to sync, but first it saw it as a new iPad. Replugged, and it started auto-syncing but errored out, deleting several apps, including Numbers, wherein were my files. Created a backup hash (this was on 7/22). Terrified, I called Apple support.
First level tech had me do all the regular stuff with boots, etc. and gave up. He sent me to Level 2. Spent almost three days with back and forths, including sending MSInfo Report and iTunes diagnostics. Then the guy disappeared. Three emails and two voice mails and nothing.
On August 3, I started a new case. Quickly again sent to level 2. Worked with this guy, who could see the original case still open in their system. Super apologetic. Promised to take care of me, give me so "stuff" for my pains. Went through complete uninstall/reinstall of five Apple programs, got one good sync in the middle, but often still sees it as a new iPad or is only seeing 4GB of memory on the device... After the full "do over," he said he was working on some deeper stuff. He was going on vacation, promised to make sure I was covered while he was gone, etc.
    Nothing.
I emailed him this morning. Left voice mail.
I just don't know what to do. I love the device when it works. It will not sync. USB seems to be the most likely culprit, but I'm able to DL my Canon DSLR, any number of USB memory devices, printers work fine.
I feel like just insisting on my money (including apps) back, but I've wasted so much time, and can't fathom why they won't even call or email back.
Does anyone know if there is a "level 3?"
(Obviously, I have all the detailed documentation for these cases, so if anyone at Apple can help, I'm happy to provide them.)

Everything is stored in your iTunes account, just download your Apps again, you are not charged a second time.
That with the backup works like this: Usually iTunes expect that everything is stored on your computer, which normally is. Before the iPhone and the iPad iTunes was the connection to the internet and the iTunesStore. With iPhone/iPad the things got a little more complicated because these devices are capable to buy directly content from the iTunesStore. Normally every time you synch your iPad/iPhone the purchased items are transferred to the iTunes library, but you can do that also manually (menu "File - Transfer Purchases from iPad").
So in the Backup itself are the informations what is stored on your iPad and where, plus the configuration files and things like game scores. Music, Movies, Pictures, Apps and so on are not stored in the Backup, that would not make any sense since all that stuff should be anyway in you iTunes library. Pictures are a little different, since iTunes doesn't take care of the directly, on the Mac iPhoto does that.
If you don't know anymore what Apps you bought, check your mails, Apple always send you a mail as a receipt (search for "iTunes Store").
    enjoy your magic machine

  • WHY is backing up and synching so slow?

I know there are a number of solutions posted (I like this one, though have yet to try it: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7706721&tstart=0 ), but what I have found does not make any sense and I can't see why the iPhone is behaving so slowly visa vi synching and backing up. I started a backup yesterday at 03:20, and when I returned home (yes, these problems have caused me to go 2 days without a mobile phone -- thank goodness my car didn't break down and require me to call for assistance) at 17:20 it was only about 80% complete!?!! 14 hours and it only backs up 80%?? So I hit the "Transfer all purchases" item in the file menu and this cleared all my checked apps and then checked EVERY ONE so it tried to download all 250 or so apps that I usually swap in and out of my phone. The phone only supports 128 or so apps, so there's no point in loading more than that and I try to tailor my apps to the ones I feel like using on a given day or just to test some for a while. This did transfer my purchases so I had a copy of the apps I paid for on the phone on the computer, and as that was my main concern I decided to let the synch go. Well, 03:05 rolled around the following day (as it always does) and there was my iTunes, STILL ON THE "Y"s. It still wasn't even finished synching after all that time! I mean, we're talking only about 130 or so more apps -- a good chunk of the apps were already on the phone. And apps aren't big. What gives?
Anyway, that is my long exposition, but in summary, here is my question: WHY does synching and backup up take so unacceptably long? Let me quote you some numbers to see why I find this so unacceptable: USB 2.0 has a standard throughput of 40 MB per second. It theoretically can go faster and may in practice be slower, but for sustained transmission, it should be able to transfer data at this rate. So, for a 16GB iPhone, if you wanted to TRANSFER THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF THE PHONE, it should take LESS THAN 7 MINUTES! USB CANNOT be the bottleneck. And if USB can do it in 7 minutes (and that's to transfer EVERYTHING: most syncs and backups are much MUCH less than that) there is no reason -- ABSOLUTELY NO REASON -- it should be all that much slower to synch or back up. If the blame lies with the iTunes software, then you need to ask yourself, why is iTunes trying to do this in real-time? Why not transfer the data raw, and end the "backup" lock so that the phone can safely be unplugged and then in the background transform the "raw" backup into the normal format backup, making it impossible to close iTunes before this is done. Sure, if iTunes crashes or the power goes out before the Backup is completed, you'd have a corrupt backup, but all iTunes has to add here is a file flag -- for instance, the existence of a raw backup file -- to know that it died during a backup conversion and it needs to start again. Further, it should keep around the previous backup until the new backup is fully transformed. This would not be hard to do and should easily keep initial backups under 10 minutes! Further, after the first backup, all subsequent backups should be incremental, and the phone should maintain an internal change log so that it can easily perform incremental backus sometimes instead of always requiring a full one.
As for synching, I will admit that is more complicated, but surely we can get it to a reasonable time frame. On the iTunes side, the apps and other data should be stored in a form that makes them "easy" to synch with the iPhone. Save the iPhone profile locally so that the data that needs to be transferred is "ready to go". Also, have iTunes maintain a "change log" since last synch, so it can easily keep track of any new, downloaded applications. Then, when the phone is synched, it will maintain its own change log since last synch and iTunes and iPhones will quickly exchange change logs and then iTunes can quickly determine what it specifically needs to do to bring the phone and itself "up to date". As far as data from the phone, such as purchased music, videos or applications, this should be uploaded FIRST and should AT WORST take 10 minutes for the raw data transfer. This constitutes part of backing up as well, so in this case the two steps may be combined. Reading data from Flash is usually very fast, so I don't see the Flash being a real bottleneck here and I think the biggest bottleneck is just the USB 2.0 interface, which is already 40 MBps, sustained. Where I would cut apple some slack is in the application / music / videos upload. Not only does the iPhone have to contend with the 40 MBps bottleneck of the upload, but the write cycle for the flash chips used by the iPhone may also cause the potential throughput to be diminished. Does anyone have specs on the flash chips used in the iPhone? What is the sector size and how slow is it to write a sector?
Anyway, all I can say is that at times like these, I really wish I worked for Apple. People would NOT be having these problems were I on the job. I develop for real-time embedded OS development all the time and I know the kind of bottlenecks that exist in devices like the iPhone. I know the ARM has its limitations, but it is a nice processor architecture. So I just don't see why this has to be so slow. It really should not be. Can someone please explain?

TimeHorse, I too have had this problem but I've had it before iTunes 7.7.1.11. I was just now trying to copy some new music to my iPhone and it was taking about 1-3 minutes per song. Don't even get me started into how long the backup took.
One thing I happened to notice was Windows Defender was running a scan at the same time. When I closed it, magically iTunes synching sped up drastically (3 - 4 seconds per song). This doesn't make much sense to me since my iTunes library is on a network drive, but maybe iTunes is using some swap space or temporary files or something on the local hard disk which is slowing performance due to other HD activity. You might check your disk IO when iTunes is synching, could be a bottle neck...
    Anyway, just a thought

  • Contacts and Calendar not synching. (Centro, Windows XP, Palm Desktop 6.2.2) Please help!

I originally posted on the Hotsync forum, and it was suggested that I post my question here.  Important information:  My office uses Microsoft Outlook Exchange, and I have my Centro set up to get my emails.  It also wants to sync my contacts and calendar; however, that is completely unneeded for my purposes.  I need to synch my Contacts and Calendar with my Palm Desktop.  If there is something I have to check or uncheck to do so, please tell me how.
    This is my original post:
"When I hotsynch, my memopad, my documents to go, everything seems to synch except my contacts and calendar.
After a few hours on the phone with tech support at sprint, we went for the nuclear option, hard reset, and the temporarily solved the problem, but now it has returned.
    Information that might be important:
I'm getting a failed to backup 1 file error>PmTraceDatabase>Protocol Error: Handheld file could not be opened (4004)>SYNCERR_FILE_NOT_OPEN.  This may or may not be relevent.
Anyway, I appreciate any help with this.  I depend on this PDA phone to keep me organized and there's a slight and embarrasing touch of panic to how I feel now that it is not working correctly."
    Post relates to: VisorPhone

Okay, I'm continuing to do research on this, and here's my suspicion, maybe true or maybe false.  When I set up versamail to get mail from my office's exchange server, it also configured my contact list and calendar to sync as well, and synching with the the exchange server and synching with my desktop software are mutually exclusive.
If this IS true, then hopefully there is a way to set it up so I synch my email only with the exchange server, and leave my contact list and calendar configured to synch with my desktop software.
Any feedback or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Synching with more than one computer and attempting to delete more than one

Rage is not the word. I have been having the worst time with this thing! UGH! 1st I have more than one computer that has different music on each, but this thing will only sync with 1 and delete anything from another library already added. CRAZY! Second I wanted to rip my cds to my computer without being connected to the internet and itunes won't recong the music added at a later time. I have to be connected to the internet for it to Id the music as I am ripping...CRAZY! Then I was attempting to delete the duplicated music that was not Id and it would only allow me to delete one song at a time...CRAZY! Is there a way to have this thing synch with more than 1 computer? Delete songs in a group and not everything in sight. If so how and if anyone has any remedies for the rest of this craziness I would be most appreciative. I took me forever to even figure how to get to the point to post this. I beginning to feel very sorry I bought this thing. I thought I could rip my cds, and use my work and home computers to synch with it. Please someone tell me I wasn't wrong for making this assumption. Will I be able to sych with other ipods? I bought this thing thinking I could was I wrong. I haven't even attempted that yet. I have an 80 GB ipod

"I have more than one computer that has different music on each, but this thing will only sync with 1 and delete anything from another library already added"
You can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply.
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
"I have to be connected to the internet for it to Id the music as I am ripping"
That's correct, iTunes (and other music programs) downloads the information from an online database that contains the details of many thousands of CDs.
"Delete songs in a group and not everything in sight"
Click on the first track you want to delete in a list, hold down the shift key and click on the last one, this highlights everything in between. Press the delete key
"Will I be able to sych with other ipods?"
What do you want to sync with other iPods, iTunes? You can't sync one iPod with another, you can only update from iTunes. If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It will update from your existing library. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update all songs and playlists, selected playlists only or you can manage it manually. You can also have a look at this page:How to use multiple iPods with one computer

  • Unable to synch purchased iTunes videos to iPhone after transfer from PC

I just purchased a new MacBook and have transferred my iTunes library from my original Windows PC to the Macbook. None of the videos will synch to my iPhone. As a test, I purchased another small movie from iTunes and it still will not synch the new movie either. All of this worked on my Windows PC and had all the movies on the iPhone before I made the switch.
All my music and music videos have transferred and function with no problems. It is only the purchased movies. The Video tab in iTunes does not show any of the movies.
I can play the movies from within iTunes and I have authorized my Macbook on iTunes.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I answered it myself. Feel like such a n00b. No matter how many times I double-checked every option before I posted this question, it finally made itself know and it was right in front of me.
For those that got blindsided by it like I did, the option is located on the bottom section of the Video tab. My laptop screen only displayed the top portion and I did not notice the scroll bar on the right. Once I saw it and scrolled down, there it was.
Time to buy a desktop with a large monitor!

  • Please help!! Problem synching pictures from Laptop to iPhone4????

Hey guys, I am new to this so I would really appreciate anyones help very much! I just bought a brand new iPhone4 and last year a brand new Toshiba laptop. I dont know a great deal about how Itunes works but I know the basics. I downloaded all my apps and everything using my iPhone and then when I plugged my phone into the laptop it synched all of my songs, photos, apps etc into folders in Itunes. Anyway, basically what i want to do is synch photos from my pictures folder and put them into my iphone however, when i go in to do so and select the folder to synch the message i recieve says "are u sure u want to remove 53 apps from your iPhone"?? and i really dont understand why? When i plug my phone in and click on the icon in itunes it brings up my phone and shows all the content that is currently on it but when i click on apps, all of my apps that are displayed (picture that shows your iphone) dissapear and they are all in the left hand box for me to drag over into the phone one by one? I dont want to remove them as i already have them how i like them into sorted folders and i really want to know how i can leave my apps how they are and stop this message saying do i want to remove my apps everytime i synch anything? I am not able to do any synching because of this as it will cause me to lose everything? I feel like it has something to do with when i clicked on transfer purchased items into itunes because before i did this all my apps didnt show up in the left hand column area for me to drag into my phone - but i dont know how to delete them from that area and keep my apps how they are - and just be able to synch anything else as i need to? I am sorry this is all over the place but i am finding it hard trying to explain what i mean but i am really really hoping someone might know what i can do to fix this.. I would appreciate anyones help very very much! Thanks heaps! : ) Jamo.

Did you get a dialog to convert the video first before copying? If yes, and you confirmed, encoding long videos could take ages on weak computer, so perhaps this is not an issue at all..
The problem with this conversion is that not all formats are readable by default Movies app in the phone, so it asks you to convert it before the transfer "on-the-fly". This takes some time (long if it is some full movie). But if you use another player, like MXVideo for example, you don't really need to convert it, and the transfer will then go very fast (just copying).
I thought it is the driver issue, because there is such problem too (Media Go acts more like a snail than a media manager, and it happens with PCC active simultaneously).
When everything have failed already, try to read the manual.
Kudos mean I am helpful. Am I for you? Then support me back

  • Audibook not showing up for synching

    Hi there,
I've got an iPhone v4, running iTunes v10 on PC Windows 7.
I downloaded my first audiobook from iTunes last night. Saw that it shows up in iTunes under Library/Books and did my whole synch/update iPhone and thought no more of it. Tried to find it this morning and couldn't find it on my phone. So I figured I must have forgotten to check some button - but I've gone in and checked - yes the files are there (3 parts) in Library/Books, but if I go to Devices/iPhone/Books nothing is there to synch??! I have two PDFs in my iBooks and they are the only things that show up.
I've clicked on each of the three chapters and gone to Get Info and stepped through the options and ensured their Media Type is listed as Audiobook.
They are .m4b files and they are AAC protected files. I've got both the phone and iTunes at full update status. I've logged out and restarted.
I created a Playlist called Audiobooks and transferred a copy of the files to there, thinking I could 'trick' it into recognising them, but no joy.
I've played the beginning of each chapter to also try and get iTunes to recognise the files, but still no joy.
HELP! why aren't they showing up for me to be able to synch them??

yeesh *facepalm* do I feel like a complete n00b
I really really thought I'd done that - what a complete doofus!
Well, thank you so much for pointing it out and not making me feel like an idiot - I can do that myself!!
Hope you're having a great Easter

  • Audio and video out of synch

Can anyone help. I have just purchased fce4 and already feel way out of my depth. When I captured my footage I get a warning saying that audio and video may be out of synch. Fair enough but there is no advice on how to fix this. Is it something to do with frame rates. My camera is DV Pal. How do I change the settings assuming this is the problem.

Go to Final Cut Express>Easy Setup. You're probably set up for DV-PAL. Change to DV-PAL 32kHz and see if that helps.
I'd encourage you to get a reference book. Tom Wolsky, frequent contributor to this forum, has an excellent one: Final Cut Express Editing Workshop. Diana Weynand has written another one: Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Express.
