Syncing an iPhone 4 with a "fresh installation" of iTunes in a new computer

Hi from Madrid!
I hope my English is ok and I wish you could help me because I have a little problem. My laptop has broken and died three days ago, I had the "****" graphic chip nvidia 8600M GT, and finally it burned. It was suddenly from a day to another, I have bought a new computer with Windows 7, and I haven't dared to sync with the iTunes installed in this new laptop, because I'm afraid of losing all my information and data in my iPhone 4, when syncing with the new installed iTunes for first time. In conclusion, what I'd like to know is what I have to do not to lose all my data in the phone when syncing for the first time, to pass all the data in my phone to the computer and not vice versa or combine it with the computer, because it's very important to keep it.
PD: I think I may be able to get my old iTunes library because I rescued the hard disk, but I'd prefer to know if there is something easier because what I only want is to keep my data in the iPhone: messages, saved games, etc.
Thank you very much for your help.

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you replaced your computer, your phone, sees your computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes.
2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
4. Store>Authorize this computer.
5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
7. Right click again and select backup.
8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.
But, if at all possible, move your entire iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer FIRST. Also move any data you consider important: contacts, documents, calendars, etc.

I just Synced My iPhone 6 which had close to 2000 photos to a new computer (windows PC) and synced with iTunes. Now all my previous photos have been deleted which were there on my phone. Please suggest a way to recover those Photos . Thanks
P.S -I have not taken any backup of those photos. So please suggest any software or any other method.

If those photos were part of the camera roll, they were part of the backup as well and you can restore from the latest backup you made on the old computer. After that transfer the photos to the new PC, follow this article: iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
Then sync again to the new one, which will erase the phone again.
You can also try to copy the backup folder from the old computer to the new one and see if the old backups get recognized, check this article to find the location on your PC:
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes
If the photos were not taken with the phone, your data is gone, photos you sync from iTunes to the phone are not included in the backup.

    Check the following:
You have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos" on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings
You have checks next to all the songs you want to sync to your phone
There aren't any exclaimation points next to any of the songs you want to sync to your phone (which indicates that iTunes can't locate them on your computer)
Your computer is authorized for all Apple IDs used to purchase music that your want to sync to your phone (under Store>Authorize this Computer)
You have selected to Sync Music on the Music tab of your itunes sync settings.

  • TS4062 I have the latest iTunes update and can't sync my iPhone 5 with Windows 8.1.  iTunes not showing my device is connected.

I recently updated from Windows 8 to 8.1.  Now I can't sync my iPhone 5.  I have the latest version of iTunes and my phone is updated as well.  It worked fine with Windows 8.  Now iTunes doesn't show my phone when it's connected. My computer does recognize that my phone is connected.  Is there a fix for Windows 8.1?

these are common problems with windows 8.1 and you can point the fault at MS not iTunes

  • How can I sync my iPhone without losing one of my five transfers to a new computer?

iTunes thinks I have a new computer when I just replaced a bad hard drive and restored it from Time Machine.  Now iTunes says I must transfer my music to the "new computer" or it will erase all the music from my iphone.  I already did this once the last time the hard drive crashed.  I think I have only one tranfer left for a lot of my music, and I don't want to waste it.  This doesn't seem right.  Any solution to this problem?

What do you mean "one transfer left"?  There is no limit.

Third time I've answered this question today.
The BEST way is to copy your data from your old computer to your new computer, or, if you don't have the old computer anymore the backup that you should have made of it before retiring it. If neither of these is possible see this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

  • Dealing with Shared Libraries after moving iTunes library to new Computer

I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch) with 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. Previously, I had my iTunes on a Dell PC computer. Using an external hard drive, I transferred my iTunes library over to the Mac. After trying to sync my iPhone 4 (iOS 7.1.2), I discovered that I wasn't able to sync my music. In my attempt to fix this, I tried several things. I actually purchased iTunes Match, hoping that this would somehow fix this problem, but it didn't work. I tried restoring my iPhone to factory settings after completely a backup. Again, this did not work. I have tried to delete my library and add it back following the specific instructions found on the Apple Support site (How to move your iTunes library to a new computer  - Apple Support).
When my iPhone is plugged in and I click under iPhone settings Music, the only option I have to work with is iTunes Match is On and syncing voice memos. There is not the option to sync music library.
I feel that somehow I have created multiple libraries or messed smoothing up because I can't even transfer music on to my iPhone manually. It's like my iPhone won't recognize the library on my iTunes. I am using the 12.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.
    Then launch iTunes.
This is all you need to do.
You do not need to add anything or import anything to iTunes.
When you have iTunes Match turned on, you do not sync music via the computer or iTunes.
    You sync via iTunes Match.

There is no way to stop iTunes from doing exactly what it is designed to do.
The iPhone is designed to sync with one and only one computer.
If you have moved/copied your iTunes library from your old computer to your new one, then iTunes wiping your device is no problem.  You would simply sync and iTunes will put all the content back.

  • I get an error message when I sync my iPhone 5 with itunes on a Windows 7 laptop. When I go back to my music there are exclamation marks next to many songs. I have reinstalled iTunes

I get an error message when I sync my iPhone 5 with iTunes on my Windows 7 Samsung laptop.  I recently backed up all of my data using Samsung Recovery Solution 5 to an external hard drive so that I could restore my laptop.  I put all of my data back on the restored laptop and reinstalled iTunes. After the error message that says that certain items could not be found and the "sync" is finished I go back to my music in iTunes and there are exclamation marks next to many songs.  I follow some instructions regarding the Edit - Preferences - Advanced settings and the exclamation marks go away until I try to sync my phone again.  Then I get the same error message and the exclamation marks return.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and the same thing happens again.  I am about to schedule an appointment with the Genius Bar but would like to avoid that if possible.  Thank you in advance for any help.

    Hello Courtney,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when syncing your music to your iPhone.  It sounds like iTunes is not able to locate the original file for the song to transfer it to your device.  I recommend reviewing the following articles to locate you music files on your computer:

  • How can I sync my iPhone 4 with a new MacBook Pro without losing all my data and settings?

I used to sync my iPhone 4 with a PC running Windows XP until the hard drive died. Thankfully, I already had a backup of all my iTunes media (Songs, TV Shows, Movies, Podcasts, Apps, etc), so when I bought a new MacBook Pro, transferring my iTunes library was easy.
My problem now is that I want to sync my iPhone 4 with my new MacBook Pro without losing all the data and settings. I have already used iTunes to back it up and transfered my purchases onto the mac. I just need help to sync the iPhone with the Mac without losing app data, emails, contacts, settings.
Everytime I click on the tabs (to sync contacts, apps, music, et al), I get an error message that reads:
"Are you sure you want to sync apps? All existing apps and their data on the iPhone “Ryan's iPhone” will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library."
What do I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

Can't get my Music off of my iPhone 4...
My computer died & had to get a new one, so now I cannot sync my iPhone 4 with the new computer, without losing all of my Music, because the only Music I have is on the iPhone 4 only, not on the computer. No Backup anywhere : (
If I choose to sync it tells me all of the Content that does not match the iTunes library on the computer will be erased, do you want to proceed & I have to say no.
How do I replace the music library on my Computer with the Music on the iPhone?
I got my pictures off because you can access them when you connect the iPhone using Windows 7 but you cannot see any of the music so you cannot access it when using windows so don't know what to do...
    Help...

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to move everything to your new computer.

  • My laptop recently broke and I had to buy a new one. How do I sync my iphone 4 with the new laptop without losing all data?

    Hi there,
Well the title says it all really.
I have to sync my iphone 4 with my new laptop as the old one broke. How do I do this without losing all my pictures, music, contacts & things purchased form the itunes store?
It seems really silly that everything gets wiped off the phone when using a different laptop. This problem must happen quite often as I am sure I am not the only person who has had a pc that has broken.
I hope you someone can help. All the stuff on my phone is important to me.
    Many thanks

  • Erratic syncing on iPhone 5s with iTunes 11

I am going crazy trying to sync my iPhone 5s with iTunes 11.1.3.8. There is plenty of space as my iPhone is 64gb with apparantly 36.5gb available. Approx. 15.4gb of this is currently taken up by music, but it should be far more. I don't know if it is an iTunes problem or an iPhone problem - or both!
I've always added music to my iPhone manually by dragging folders on to the device in iTunes (with "manually manage music" ticked in the settings). This never used to cause any problems, and I prefer it to having all my music choices in iTunes as I have different devices with different capacity etc.
Since using my new iPhone, syncing is going wrong every time in strange and unpredictable ways:
    1. Not all the music will sync, seemingly at random.
Some albums have the grey circle next to them and won't add whether I delete and re-add or not
Some albums had the grey circle but synced when I deleted and re-added (these are the same type of files and from the same source as the ones that still don't sync)
Some music suddenly shows up with the ! symbol and won't sync, for no reason - sometimes this is even a random selection of tracks on the same album stored in the same location.
Some music appears in iTunes as though it is on the device, but doesn't show in the iPhone e.g. out of dozens of Bowie songs only 2 show up on the phone
The last time I synced I added an audiobook of short stories, with each story as a track. When I went to listen to it this morning, around two thirds of the tracks had randomly disappeared. After syncing they seem to be back, but I have no idea why they vanished last time and if it will happen again.
Sometimes after syncing a whole playlist will have gone blank in the iPhone i.e. tracks aren't there, but when I connect to iTunes the playlist appears as it should be. Syncing sometimes fixes this, but might then empty another playlist...
    2. I manually set compilation albums to "sort by album artist" e.g. changing my short stories audiobook to show under Artists as "Short Stories" rather than each author as an album with 1 track. At random, when I am looking through artists on my iPhone I notice that one or two albums have ungrouped, even though I didn't touch any settings in between.
    3. When I'm connected to iTunes the usage bar at the bottom seems to fluctuate randomly sometimes. Currently, having just synced, it shows 15.4gb audio with 36.44gb free. Ok now I added 1 album which is 92.5mb and synced - just that one chance.. Usage bar now reads 21.76gb audio with 30.08gb free. Now I'm adding a 173mb folder of 2 albums and syncing. Usage bar now reads 15.51gb with 36.16gb free. Somehow after adding 3 albums and not changing anything else, I end up with more space than before??
I'm at a loss as to why iTunes/my iPhone is behaving so erratically. Perhaps the above are seperate, unrelated problems, but I'm writing them all here in case they are all linked to one problem.
I have tried syncing using the original cable and over wifi. Have also rebooted the phone and restarted, to no avail.
Please help me with some suggestions of what is going on and how to fix it? Let me know if you need any more info.

    Hit there tayls22,
It sounds as if you are having some issues with your ability to create a backup in iTunes of your iPhone, which prevents you from completing the sync process. I have an article for you that can help you troubleshoot this issue further, and it can be found below:
