Synonym for Package?

Is it a standard practice to create PUBLIC SYNONYMS for Packages? Like
CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM <synonym_for_package> FOR <package_name>;

Is it a standard practice to create PUBLIC SYNONYMS
for Packages? Like
CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM <synonym_for_package>
FOR <package_name>;The practice is to create synonyms for database objects on other schemas where you want to reference them locally without having to specify the schema name. It's not specific to packages.
If there's no need to create the synonym then don't do it.

  • Synonyms for packaged procedures

    Heres something that is currently bothering me.
    Why are we not allowed to create synonyms for procedures and functions within packages ?
    Our database has too many individual procedures and functions for my liking and I would like to move some of them into packages. Consequently I want to create synonyms to avoid changing application code.
    I have found metalink note 1061643.6 which confirms this cannot be done, but it also goes on to say:
    "Oracle does this using the STANDARD package with overloaded functions and procedures such as TO_CHAR() and TO_DATE(), but how Oracle does this is proprietary information and is not available to the public."
    (Thanks Oracle)

    The basic reason for this restriction is that the Oracle synonyms are alternative names only for database objects, not for PL/SQL objects like packaged function and procedures.
    But moving stored procedures/functions to packages is a good idea, recommended by all the experts, with many benefits for you in the future.
    There is a simple solution for you problem, with very little impact on the continuity or performance of your applications:
    1. Copy the code of the DB stored procedures and functions to PL/SQL packages, mirroring them into packages subprograms.
    2. Replace the body of the DB procedures and functions with plain calls to their packages equivalents, transforming them effectively into wrappers behaving like synonyms.
    3. Change gradually the code of the application to call directly the packages functions and procedures
    4. When the change is completed, delete the wrappers.
    BTW If Oracle does not support a feature, than you it's better not to use it. Modifying the STANDARD package or using some volatile, undocumented features is not a clever move...

  • How to declare synonym for a package function with a DBLink

    Hi,
    I have a PL/SQL package 'pkg'
    and a function in the package 'func'
    at another db using a dblink.
    How to I create the correct syntax to create the synonym for this package and function.
    create synonym --- for ---@dblink
    Thanks.

    CREATE SYNONYM <name> FOR <OWNER>.<OBJECT>@<DB_LINK>

  • Creating SYNONYM for all tables who don't have one at once!

    Hello to all,
    I'm trying to create synonyms for every table who's missing one at the moment. I'm trying this code:
    declare
    cursor cur_objects is
    select obj.object_name , obj.owner
    from all_objects obj
    where owner = '&&SCHEMA_OWNER'
    AND NOT EXISTS (SELECT *

    AND obj.object_type = 'TABLE'
    AND obj.object_name LIKE 'CI_%';
    begin
    for rec_objects in cur_objects loop
    begin
    dbms_output.put_line(rec_objects.object_name);
    execute immediate('create public synonym ' || rec_objects.object_name || ' for '

  • View + stored function + synonym for other user

    Dear All!
    I've got a quite strange problem which I cannot decide whether it's caused by my lack of knowledge on the appropriate topic or by an Oracle bug. I'm already after some heavy googling on the topic and I was unable to track any valuable answers neither in forums nor in the Oracle documentation. I'll try to be as short and specific as possible.
    Database: Oracle 10g
    Result of "SELECT BANNER FROM V$VERSION":
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    "CORE     10.2.0.4.0     Production"
    TNS for Solaris: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    I have two users in the database for a single Web application: UAPP01, which is the owner of application DB objects and UAPP02 which is the application user connecting to the DB. The application runs for quite many years by now and DB structure layout has always been following a simple logic: for each DB object used by the app. (tables, views, packages and stored procedures/functions) and found in the UAPP01 there exists a synonym in the UAPP02 schema. For the privileges to be set correctly a role is created: RL_MY_APPL which is granted the necessary privileges on objects of UAPP01 (CRUD on tables, SELECT on views, EXECUTE on procedures, etc..). This role is granted to UAPP02.
    In the previous days I was about to extend the DB with a view that invokes a stored function. This pattern has already occured in the DB previously so I kept following existing conventions: I've created the stored function and the view in the UAPP01 schema, granted SELECT on the view to RL_MY_APPL and created the synonym for it in the UAPP02 schema. This is where the entire functionality began to act strange. I'll try to explain with a simplified example that was sufficient to reproduce the problem:
    REM ========================================
    REM Execute below code as UAPP01 user.
    REM ========================================
    REM Test function.
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION testfunction(p_param NUMBER) RETURN NUMBER IS
    BEGIN
    RETURN p_param *2;
    END;
    REM Testview version 1. causing trouble.
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW testview AS
    WITH testdata AS
    SELECT /*+ materialize*/ LEVEL AS d
    FROM dual CONNECT BY LEVEL <= 100
    SELECT a, b, c, SUM(d) AS sum_d
    FROM
    SELECT FLOOR(dbms_random.VALUE(1, 100)) a, FLOOR(dbms_random.VALUE(1, 100)) b, FLOOR(dbms_random.VALUE(1, 100)) c, testfunction(d) AS d
    FROM testdata
    GROUP BY CUBE(a, b, c)
    REM Testview version 2. not causing trouble.
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW testview AS
    SELECT a, b, c, SUM(d) AS sum_d
    FROM
    SELECT FLOOR(dbms_random.VALUE(1, 100)) a, FLOOR(dbms_random.VALUE(1, 100)) b, FLOOR(dbms_random.VALUE(1, 100)) c, testfunction(d) AS d
    FROM
    SELECT LEVEL AS d FROM dual CONNECT BY LEVEL <= 100
    GROUP BY (a, b, c)
    REM Synonym.
    CREATE OR REPLACE SYNONYM UAPP02.testview FOR UAPP01.testview;
    REM Grants.
    GRANT SELECT ON testview TO RL_MY_APPL;
    When creating TESTVIEW with the 1 ^st^ version I cannot query it using the UAPP02 user, I'm constantly getting the error: ORA-00904: : invalid identifier. However, when I use the 2 ^nd^ version everything runs perfectly. What is common in the two cases is that both versions use the TESTFUNCTION function. I have not granted the EXECUTE rights on TESTFUNCTION to the RL_MY_APPL since it was never needed previously (for other views using stored functions) and as far as I know it's not necessary (as both the view and the function are owned by UAPP01). The strange thing in the above behaviour is that the function is used by both versions, however only one of them fails. This is where I thought it's not a granting issue, otherwise neither of the versions would have worked and I think I would have received a different error stating that UAPP02 lacks the necessary privileges on underlying objects of the view.
    As I further digged into the problem by examining the EXPLAIN PLAN output for the two versions I found that version 1. leads to a TEMP TABLE TRANSFORMATION and to MULTI TABLE INSERTs, whereas version 2. simply executes the query without doing such things. In my setup I presume the MULTI TABLE INSERTs were caused by the GROUP BY CUBE. When I simply removed the CUBE and used only GROUP BY the TEMP TABLE TRANSFORMATION remained in place but the MULTI TABLE INSERTs disappeared. As a result of this small modification the view again began to work when I executed it through the synonym and using the UAPP02 user.
    With the original DB objects of our application the behaviour is even more strange: the error comes up if I select from the view and filter for a column that is grouped in the query whereas it works correctly if I filter for the aggregated columns. However, I couldn't reproduce this with the above simplified example.
    No problem occurs with any of the versions if I query the view using the UAPP01 user.
    This hectic behaviour made me suspect that the TEMP TABLE TRANSFORMATION + MULTI TABLE INSERT + synonym + stored function combo appears to bring a strange Oracle bug to the surface...
    As a final note: when executing GRANT EXECUTE ON TESTFUNCTION TO RL_MY_APPL everything works fine in all cases. I know I could simply live with this but I'd really like to get to the bottom of this. Although this extra GRANT appears to solve the problem I don't really trust it. I'd really like to avoid the bug emerging again in Production in case this extra GRANT were not sufficient due to some unknown misteries.
    Excuse me, the post has become a bit lengthy. Thanks in advance for anyone who's willing to read through and answer it!
    Regards,
    Krisztian Balazs Szaniszlo

    The error is thrown at run-time and only for the UAPP02 (second) user.
    The problem is that the appearance of errors is independent of whether the query contains the call to the stored function or not.
    So far I thought that if I use a stored function indirectly, like in this setup: UAPP02.synonym -> UAPP01.view -> UAPP01.stored function, then I don't need the grant. Of course, I understand that if I had used it directly, like :UAPP02.synonym -> UAPP01.stored function then I'd need the GRANT EXECUTE.
    Shall I just ignore the strange behaviour and go on by adding GRANT EXECUTE privilege on all the functions used indirectly through views? It seems to solve the problem, but this behaviour is disturbing me quite and I fear the real root cause of the problem can emerge later in a different fashion.

  • PL/SQL, synonyms to packages and name resolution

    I have some question about name resolution in PL/SQL. First, I need to describe situation, because it is quite complicated.
    There are three schemas: A1, B1 and O. A1 and B1 are containing proprietary software and I cannot modify objects there (but I can modify configuration tables, so in this way I can call any package from anyhere). O schema is my own schema. A1 and B1 schemas are in one "module", there are also A2 and B2 schemas in second "module" and AN and BN in n-th "module".
    In normal situation, A1 schema contains synonym to package B1.PKG (on B1 schema) and uses it to call B1.PKG with DEFINER rights. The same for every "module".
    I need to extend some functionality of B.PKG by buliding some kind of "wrapper" on my own O schema. It is only one MY_PKG and should be used by every "module". In this place I need some kind of magic :)
    I want to place package MY_PKG with AUTH_ID CURRENT_USER clause on my O schema and use A1..AN schema to call it. Package MY_PKG have to call package placed on one of B1..BN schemas, so I need to create synonym on O schema for package, for example, B1.PKG just to compile the MY_PKG package.
    Now, I call MY_PKG package from A1 schema and I expect MY_PKG will use synonym to B1.PKG placed on A1 schema, instead of using synonym on my O schema. That's not happening. MY_PKG still uses synonym on O schema, so it ruins whole concept :)
    Actually, I use some set of packages that already work properly in that way, but there is some difference. In my other packages I use SQL and synonyms to tables and views placed on _one_ A schema. I use those synonyms only for compiling. When packages are calling from A1..AN schemas, they use proper objects on proper A1..AN schema. In this case I try to do the same, but with package instead of tables and view. I find it difficult probably because SQL and PLSQL resolves names in other way.
    Here is the question, is it possible to make such thing as decribed above? Of course, I can use execute immediate to run proper packages directly from O schema, but I don't want :)
    Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand whole concept.
    DB version: 11.2.0.3

    The documentation is pretty clear that invoker rights applies only to certain statements...
    Using PL/SQL Subprograms
    SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE data manipulation statements
    The LOCKTABLE transaction control statement
    OPEN and OPEN-FOR cursor control statements
    EXECUTEIMMEDIATE and OPEN-FOR-USING dynamic SQL statements
    SQL statements parsed using DBMS_SQL.PARSE()
    So clearly static PL/SQL references will not be resolved in this way.
    I can't actually remember (I have found AUTHID CURRENT_USER to be very rarely useful) but you may be able to get around this by executing dynamic PL/SQL blocks but given the potential downsides of dynamic SQL and PL/SQL you almost certainly don't want to.

  • Create a public synonym for a db link - "Connection desccriptor not found".

    I want to create a public synonym for a db link.
    The existing db link name is tst.world ( which is in db links table and is working fine).
    I created the following db link using the following command:
    create public synonym "syn.world" for "tst.world";
    It created the synonym successfully.
    If I try the following, it throws error "Connection desccriptor not found".
    select * from [email protected];
    It says "Connection desccriptor not found".
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Well then, lookup the Documentation on the CREATE SYNONYM statement in the SQL Language Reference manual.
    The documentation lists the types of objects which you can create synonyms for.
    You can create synonyms for objects referenced across DBLinks.
    You cannot create synonyms for DBLinks.

    This table does not exist in INV schema in 11.5.10.2.
    Could be possible that the consultant could have created this table in INV and APPS schema by mistake or whatever.Yes, with the same name, there might be table in APPS SCHEMA. When you run recreate grants and synonyms, adadmin tries to create synonym for that table in APPS schema. since there is object available with the same name in apps chema, you got that error.

    Did you check this
    post?
    It turned out the root cause of the problem was one of the packages that the TS called.  Even though SCCM had been set to use the selected distribution points and said the package was installed on those DPs, it hadn't actually copied the files over.
     Updating to a new source version and ensuring the files copied correctly resolved the issue.  Hopefully SCCM 2012 will do a better job of communicating a dependency problem, but I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

    it appears the majority of these messages occur when you have a system that has an expired advertisement still being applied to it.

  • Goods Receipt for packaging material - Item cat. ELP

    Hi expert,
    I am facing a problem regarding receive Packaging Material Item i MIGO via inbound. Problem detail as below hope you can advise me:
    1. I create PO order 1pc of Throttle
    2. In Inbound Delivery Screen I do Packing for Throttle by using Handling Unit Function, packaging Material is Carton Box.
    3. After Pack complete, Item for packaging material is auto generated in inbound screen:
    - Item Cat. of Throttle = ELN
    - Item Cat. of Carton Box (Packaging Material) = ELP
    4. When i do MIGO via Inbound: there is only 1 item for Throttle is displayed. How to do Goods Receipt for Carton Box item? Do i Miss any setting for that?
    Thanks.

    i thnk u sould maintain material master with two units one is throttle and second is cartoon.
    u shud maintain that how many throttle is equal to 1 cartoon.
    this u can maintain directlt in PO (In condition tab, with these two field : OUN and UN). in PO as a OUN ,give throttle n UN , give cartoon in item overview as well as condition tab.
    and during delivery change the unit in cartoon. then while migo, material will show in cartoon.
    hope it will be helpful.
    Thanks

    Hi
    There is a place in SPRO where i can define the material type for packaging.

    Hi,
    In T.code: OMS2, you can get standard material type list.VERP is the standard material type for packing material.You can copy VERP and rename to ur material type( as it is ur business requriement or else u can use same VERP)
    What is the use of material type here?
    With the help of ur Material Type , u can craete material like The material type,will be used while defining the material
    master.At that time,in Tcode:MM01,first screen we need to
    mention,(material type)it show the nature of material
    ex:-engineering product,finished products,semifinished
    product,etc.,
    It also play vital role on material numbering,material type in comination with plant & valuation class, play vital role in inventory & accoputning.
    To Create Material,use t. Code: MM01,
    Step-1
    Enter Material Code: ( example-Polythene Bag, If External Number Range or leave it blnak)
    Enter Industry Sector: ...................
    Enter Material Type: ..........................(VERP- Packing)
    Step-2

  • Batch management separately for packaging / fuel material

    Hi experts,
    to be very clear , batch management is activated for all type of materials like raw material and finished goods.
    For packaging material and fuel material i didnt activate batch management.
    my issue is to maintain batch for packaging and fuel material with batch no. separately.
    if any customization or through any exits / badi ?
    i also maintain for stock at  batch level .
    regards
    dks

    Hi,
    If batch is not activated for Material type packaging / fuel material...and stock /PO/GRN/IV exists for those material, then its impossible to to acitivate batches for those materials whose stock /PO/GRN/IV exists ...
    If you want to maintain batches for these material types then you have to reverse all documents and you have to clear all stocks, which will be tedious job.
    Better from future when ever you create new material for those material types, then activate the batch management check box.
