Syntax Check for *.java files

Hello erveryone,
I'm wondering if anybody has an advice how to enable (if possible) syntax check in JDeveloper 10.1.2.
For example:
public String toString() {
String result = "test";
The missing return statement is not shown in the editor. It's only shown by the compiler.
Thanks in advance
Alex

Thanks for your reply,
I checked out the links you mentioned, but I think the informations about the code editor and the code assist are not very detailed.
I checked out the tool you mentioned above (PMD) and it was quite fine unsing it for one class. But I tried to check about 300 classes at a time and it hangs after a few minutes.
So I think it's a little improvement, but I will still look for a tool compareable to eclipse.

    now my problems is that i need to have a code that upon a request checks for a file (in the home dir) and if the file exists reads the information and ouputs it. here is an example:
    check if file TEST.DATA exists?
    check approved TEST.DATA exists
    information outputed...
    if the file is missing i need to have an error message...
    PS. sorry if the question falls under "lame" but i am fairly new to java and i dont know the commands that well... thank you in advance!

    Below is from using a SIP build.  It does offer G722, but it's way down on the list so it's never used...
    m=audio 32678 RTP/AVP 0 8 18 102 9 116 101
    a=rtpmap:0 PCMU/8000
    a=rtpmap:8 PCMA/8000
    a=rtpmap:18 G729/8000
    a=fmtp:18 annexb=no
    a=rtpmap:102 L16/16000
    a=rtpmap:9 G722/8000
    a=rtpmap:116 iLBC/8000
    a=fmtp:116 mode=20
    a=rtpmap:101 telephone-event/8000
    Taking Sreekanth's suggestion to try a Skinny build, I get the following when I make a call.  It offers codecs in the order I SET THEM AND ONLY THE CODECS I SET!  YAY!
    m=audio 19374 RTP/AVP 9 0 101
    a=rtpmap:9 G722/8000
    a=fmtp:9 bitrate=64
    a=rtpmap:0 PCMU/8000
    a=rtpmap:101 telephone-event/8000
    Using a Skinny build on the phones also solved other issues.  The phones use G711 when the whole path supports G711 and G722 when the whole path supports G722.  It doesn't always use G722 and rely on transcoding for the call paths that can't use it.  It's fantastic..  The phones also receive the QoS tagging that I set and that seems to result in better audio quality than on the SIP builds, which never did get those settings.  Finally, it even solved a slow Exchange 2013 answer issue I have been experiencing for quite some time.  I practically fell out of my chair when I saw everything that was fixed just by switching...
    Cisco, PLEASE FIX YOUR SIP BUILDS!  It's insane how the SCCP builds work perfectly and the SIP builds don't, especially with how much these phones cost..  I was thinking of possibly acquiring some 9951s, which are SIP only.  I'm a little leery about that at this point.  If they have the same kinds of issues as the SIP builds for the 7975g, there's no SCCP alternative to use..
    Sreekanth
    Thank you for suggesting a Skinny build..  That was about the only thing I didn't try.  I am happy beyond belief that this is working so well now, even though the SIP builds should be just as well developed as the SCCP ones.

    is there a way to run a syntax check for all objects of a software component?

    Hi Kerstin
    I think basis guy should know this, it`s on software component level.
    i know a tcode 'SGEN', but this is used to define a background job then compiling the software component. I`m not sure the background job log whether have this kind of error message if there are SYNTAX error.

  • How do I enable syntax highlighting for jspf files on Dreamweaver CS6 on Windows?

    I followed the instructions (which I modified for CS6) in this posting: http://blog.metameister.com/blog/2011/04/08/open-new-file-types-and-add-syntax-highlightin g-in-dreamweaver-cs5-on-window…
    but it did not work for CS6.
    How do I enable syntax highlighting for jspf files on Dreamweaver CS6 on Windows 7?
    cheers
    Marvin in Edmonton

    Ok, I figured it out after hunting for a few hours.
    Step 1. Add the File Type
    In Dreamweaver’s toolbar:
    Select Edit > Preferences;
    under File Types / Editors, add .jspf to the line “Open in Code View:”.
    Step 2. Extensions.txt
    Add file type .jspf to the Extensions.txt files. There are two of these files:
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6\en_US\Configuration
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\configuration
    Step 3. MMDocumentTypes.xml
    Add jspf to the MMDocumentTypes.xml files. Open this file in Notepad or Text Editor. Do not modify the Dreamweaver configuration files within Dreamweaver.
    There are three MMDocumentTypes.xml files to be modified:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\configuration\DocumentTypes
    C:\Users\mhaagsma\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6\en_US\Configuration
    C:\Users\mhaagsma\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6\en_US\Configuration\DocumentTypes\
    Step 4. Restart Dreamweaver
    Hopefully the file type will now be recognized and appear with syntax highlighting.

  • ER: HTML Applet tag syntax warning - or HTML syntax checker for JDEV.

    Hi,
    I just spent ages (an hour or two) debugging an applet and it turned out that I had left a comma "," out of my 'archive=..' parameter of the 'applet' tag in the HTML :-(.
    E.g. I had <applet code="x" archive="a.jar b.jar, c.jar, d.jar"> and IE simply didn't load 'b.jar' so I got the usual 'class not found' exception. After signing every jar and putting every jar in every directory I finally noticed the commas between some of the jars.
    I can understand IE not helping me load an Applet since, from MS's point of view, that is evil Java code, but JDev must know the syntax of a HTML applet tag too so it could highlight the error for me.
    Alternatively does anyone know of a HTML checker plugin for JDEV?
    Regards,
    Simon.

    No comments?
    I've been looking around for a HTML syntax checker and there are plenty around - just google "html validation". None so far have picked up the missing comma in my busted applet tag. I guess with a missing comma it just looks like a file name with a space in it anyway.
    I still think JDeveloper could flag semantic errors like this at development time.
    Cheers,
    Simon.

  • How to enable syntax highlighting for jspf files on Dreamweaver CS5.5 on Mac

    I ran into an issue where I couldn't get the color coding (color coding style) for java server pages fragments (.jspf) files to show syntax highliting.
    I followed the adobe instructions on Changing and adding file extensions recognized by Dreamweaver without any luck.
    Here is the solution that worked for me:
    On a Mac:
    1. Edit the /Users/YOUR USER/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS5.5/en_US/Configuration/DocumentTypes/MMDocumetTypes.xml
    Note: the Adobe instructions tell you to edit /Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5/Configuration/DocumentTypes/MMDocumetTypes.xml (Editing this file didn't do anything for me, so you need to change the file above instead)
    Find,
    <documenttype id="JSP" servermodel="JSP" internaltype="Dynamic" winfileextension="jsp,jst" macfileextension="jsp,jst" file="Default.jsp" writebyteordermark="false" mimetype="text/html">
    Replace with,
    <documenttype id="JSP" servermodel="JSP" internaltype="Dynamic" winfileextension="jsp,jst,jspf" macfileextension="jsp,jst,jspf" file="Default.jsp" writebyteordermark="false" mimetype="text/html">
    2. Edit the /Users/YOUR USER/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS5.5/en_US/Configuration/Extensions.txt
    In the All: section on top add the jspf extention right after jsp in my example it looked like this
    HTM,HTML,SHTM,SHTML,HTA,HTC,XHTML,STM,SSI,JS,JSON,AS,ASC,ASR,XML,XSL,XSD,DTD,XSLT,RSS,RDF, LBI,DWT,ASP,ASA,ASPX,ASCX,ASMX,CONFIG,CS,CSS,CFM,CFML,CFC,TLD,TXT,PHP,PHP3,PHP4,PHP5,PHP-D IST,PHTML,JSP,WML,TPL,LASSO,JSF,VB,VBS,VTM,VTML,INC,SQL,JAVA,EDML,MASTER,INFO,INSTALL,THEME,CONFIG,MODU LE,PROFILE,ENGINE,SVG:All
    and I added the jspf and it looks like this now,
    HTM,HTML,SHTM,SHTML,HTA,HTC,XHTML,STM,SSI,JS,JSON,AS,ASC,ASR,XML,XSL,XSD,DTD,XSLT,RSS,RDF, LBI,DWT,ASP,ASA,ASPX,ASCX,ASMX,CONFIG,CS,CSS,CFM,CFML,CFC,TLD,TXT,PHP,PHP3,PHP4,PHP5,PHP-D IST,PHTML,JSP,JSPF,WML,TPL,LASSO,JSF,VB,VBS,VTM,VTML,INC,SQL,JAVA,EDML,MASTER,INFO,INSTALL,THEME,CONFIG,MODU LE,PROFILE,ENGINE,SVG:All
    That's it, Quit Dreamweaver and open it up again. Open the .jspf file and see the color coding (syntax highlighting)
    Hope this helps you and seves you time figuring it out. If this helped, do a good thing, next time you figure something out, tell others about it to save their time too, like I did. Enjoy.

    I don't seem to have a user Library folder, my only Library folder is on the same level as my Users folder.
    From Locating your personal configuration folder in the Dreamweaver FAQ:
    In Mac OS X (Lion and Mountain Lion), open Finder and press Shift-Cmd-Go. Type ~/Library/Application Support in the dialog box, and click Go. You should then be able to find the configuration folder.

  • Syntax Checking in ActionScript files

    I have been using the FlexBuilder 2 trial and I have noticed
    that when editing a actionscript stand alone file I can make as
    many syntax errors as I want and when I save the file it just saves
    it without listing any problems. Is there no syntax checking when
    editing ActionScript files?
    Also does anyone know if flexbuilder 2 can be loaded as a
    plugin into the Eclipse platform? I don't understand why companies
    keep re-inventing the wheel. I think building the plugins for
    Eclipse and maybe Intellij would be a better use of Adobe's time.
    It would allow a developer to use all the features of their
    development environment when developing Flex Applications.

    Yes, FB2 is available as a plug-in to eclipse.
    I think (I'm a FB2 newbie), that the syntax checking happens
    only when saving an mxml file when compile-on-save is turned on. If
    there are AS classes referenced in the mxml file, they will be
    checked.
    This is just my observation, no real knowledge.

  • Disable Immediate syntax checker in Java editor

    Could anyone suggest how to disable the syntax checker in Creator's java editor? Would be helpful if I could run it on demand, just immediately before bulding the project. Or even not run at all, as syntax errors are shown during the build.
    The idea is to increase the performance and prevent occasional but still unwanted popups from the bottom of the screen.
    Thanks,
    -Ivan

    Does anybody know how to do that? After I've made the change Creator stalls for a sec trying to parse the code and detect the errors. But quite often I want to leave the code as it is and get back to it later. Creator starts to complain about syntax errors, etc. Quite an annoying thing, could anyone suggest anything?

  • [SOLVED] vim syntax checker for C++ templates?

    I've started using Syntastic to help improve my productivity when writing C++. However, I cannot seem to get it to work with C++ templates (which are usually defined and implemented in a header file). Is there a way to force Syntastic to do this? If not, does anyone know of a vim syntax checker that will?
    Last edited by bsilbaugh (2012-11-02 22:05:32)

    To enable syntax checking of headers, including templates, it turns out that you just need to add the following to your vimrc:
    let g:syntastic_cpp_check_header = 1
    See ~/.vim/bundle/syntastic/syntax_checkers/cpp.vim for an explanation of additional C++ options.
    (I don't know how I missed this earlier. Sorry for the spurious post.)

  • PL SQL block - Check for empty file

    Hello,
    I need help in writing pl sql code to check a file to verify if it has 0 records (file size = zero kb.) In a preceding pl sql block, I am performing a SELECT on data and writing it to a file. If that file is empty/has no records, then I would like to stop the process from continuing on to my next pl sql block which performs an update function.
    Summary:
    1) Create file from SELECT
    2) Check file for zero data, if true, trigger error, if false, continue to next pl sql block.
    3) Run update on records if data exists in the file.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks John,
    You've been of great help so far and a really appreciate it. I'm so close to getting this, I just need help with how to create an error when the file shows no data. I will be running this as an Oracle Apps Concurrent request. I'd like for the job to end in error when no data exists for the file. In unix, I can enter "EXIT 1" and it signals to the concurrent manager to put end the job with an error status. How can I do something similar using pl sql? • Syntax Highlighting for custom file extensions

    Hi everyone.
    I am currently working on a PHP project, and we are using
    *.thtml files for templates. The file isn't supported by
    Dreamweaver, as it's a fictional file extension. First I couldn't
    even open it with Dreamweaver, but after I added it in
    settings/file types, it worked.
    Now my question - how can I activate syntax highlighting for
    this filetype? It contains HTML and PHP, so it should work with the
    same highlighter as all the other file types do..
    Can someone help me out?
    Thanks.

  • Check for source file

    Hi,
    My requirement is as below:
    In source FTP directory, I have to check if source file exists or not. If exists, that file shuld be picked up and created at target side with header, line items and detail record.
    If the file does not exist, then a file should be created at target side with only header and detail record with no line item records.
    In any case, a file should be created at target side.
    Please suggest if Dynamic configuration is the better option for this or any other way gives better results.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Anil.

    @ Babu,
    The query is like...
    If the file does not exist, then a file should be created at target side with only header and detail record with no line item records.
    In any case, a file should be created at target side.
    so i answered as,
    Now when the file is not present, u will get only the empty tags..(message type name in XML Payload)
    If you read the question carefully, it is not being asked "how to handle empty files". It is about "what to do if there are no files in the source directory", which implies that if there are no files present, then create one.
    u said as,
    This option won't "create" an empty file.
    Correct me if i am wrong, DID I SAY IT WILL CREATE an EMPTY FILE IN SOURCE FOLDER???
    No, you don't need to say that .. it was evident from your answer. In this forum post, nothing is being asked regarding empty files, so please don't provide such answers which has nothing to do in this situation.
