SYS:SYSTEM directory deleted/overwritten

I have bumped into a Netware 6.5 SP3 server where apparently the SYS:SYSTEM folder has been overwritten by user data or has had files deleted from it.
The server boots, but it can't load several files / AUTOEXEC.NCF and eyeballing the SYSTEM directory I can tell that someone tried deleting the directory and copying things into it, because all the loaded NLMs look to have been spared, everything else disappeared outright.
My question is this, other than a full reinstall is there a way I can load the Netware media and run a repair to replace the missing files? I'm guessing no because the AUTOEXEC.NCF is gone.
I tried re-applying the service pack but it yelled at me stating it couldn't load BINDERY.NLM.
And no, there are no backups. Pretty ugly all around.
Thanks for looking at this.

Have a peek in the knowledgebase for "down server upgrade". Preferably

  • System Mail Delete Issue

Each time I start Terminal I get the "You have mail." message. They are useless messages sent to me from MacScan, so I used to ignore them. I am done ignoring them and want to go in and delete them all. So, I run "mail" or "mailx" (both give me the same results) and then "d *". It doesn't give me an error, but when I "exit" mail and then go back in all the messages are still there. I continue to get the "You have mail." message whenever I start Terminal. I have tried all parameters for "d" including no parameters which should just delete the current message and still nothing. If I type "d <enter>" as many times as there are messages, then the next "d <enter>" will say, "No applicable messages" like it went through and deleted them all, but lo and behold, they are still there.
Any thoughts? I have in the past gone through and found the actual messages on the system and deleted them that way, but I always forget where they are and am sick of hunting them down when it is completely unnecessary.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The 92x_64 directory will be created automatically once you run sapcar command.
when you execute sapcar command from the current directory then the file and directory created in the SAR file will be created in the current directory. No need to create the directory manually before executing sapcar command.
    Thanks,

  • SYS, SYSTEM and SYSAUX when full database refresh.

I took full export from database using below command
expdp "'/ as sysdba'" full=Y directory=DPUMP_DIR dumpfile=expdp_11032011.dmp logfile=expdp_11032011.log Now, I need to import this file to an other database.
When do schema refresh we usually drop all the object in that schema and start refresh, but when doing fullback up, do we need to drop all user?
what about sys, system and sysaux user?

    user3636719 wrote:
So, the tables in the SYS and SYSTEM will remain same when we refresh?
Structure will not be modified but contents will be automatically modified when DLL is executed when importing.
And do we have to drop other user before we import?Applications schemas that you have created should be dropped. In general don't modify any schema that is directly managed by Oracle such as SYS or SYSTEM or any schema used by some database option like Oracle Text, Oracle Spatial, etc.

  • Previous System wont delete

So I found that my 'previous system' folder was still in the main drive of my OSX Yosemite.
Just for neatness I deleted it. I read up about it, checked the folders, nothing important I could see.
    Boom, trash.
ok - Empty trash... nope! Still in use blah blah.
Ok so I tried a couple more options.
    Finally got to this :
    Bruces-MacBook-Pro:.Trash Bruce$ sudo rm -rf /Users/Bruce/.Trash/Previous\ System
rm: /Users/Bruce/.Trash/Previous System/.MobileBackups/Computer/2014-09-15-202242/Volume/Applications/CrashPlan. app: Operation not permitted
rm: /Users/Bruce/.Trash/Previous System/.MobileBackups/Computer/2014-09-15-202242/Volume/Applications: Directory not empty

rm: /Users/Bruce/.Trash/Previous System/.MobileBackups: Directory not empty
rm: /Users/Bruce/.Trash/Previous System: Directory not empty
Wth! How do I delete this? IN the trash it says it was 0 items, 0 bytes. I moved it back and tried again, same size 0 items. What??
How can I delete this folder that serves no purpose.

Couple more details since I tried to see what was in there:
rm: /Previous System/.MobileBackups/Computer/2014-09-17-111532/Volume/Applications/CrashPlan. app: Operation not permitted
rm: /Previous System/.MobileBackups/Computer/2014-09-17-111532/Volume/Applications: Directory not empty

rm: /Previous System/.MobileBackups/Computer: Directory not empty
rm: /Previous System/.MobileBackups: Directory not empty
Apparently there are files in there.. And they appear to be locked without the option to unlocked them from 'Get Info'. They are also 0Kb.
I'm no longer running crash plan (they lasted about a 2 days when I saw how slow their uploads were) so what gives?
    Bruces-MacBook-Pro:.Trash Bruce$ chflags noschg /Users/Bruce/Desktop/Volume/Applications/CrashPlan.app
    chflags: /Users/Bruce/Desktop/Volume/Applications/CrashPlan.app: Operation not permitted
    Bruces-MacBook-Pro:.Trash Bruce$ sudo chmod ugo+rw /Users/Bruce/Desktop/Volume/Applications/CrashPlan.app
chmod: Unable to change file mode on /Users/Bruce/Desktop/Volume/Applications/CrashPlan.app: Operation not permitted
How do I get it off my desktop!

  • Default Connections (SYS, SYSTEM, DBSNMP, SYSMAN) Unavailable When SQLOpens

I installed the 32-Bit version of Oracle 11gR2 on my Windows 7 x64 system because the x64 version wouldn't install. I downloaded the 32-Bit version of SQL Developer with JRE, but when I run SQL Developer, the default connections (SYS, SYSTEM, DBSNMP, and SYSMAN) are not available.
I have entered the tnsnames directory on the Database:Advanced Preferences screen, and restarted my PC, but there's obviously something I'm missing.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hi Paul,
Once I connect to the Network Adapter, will the default ids show up?The SQL Developer Help says (and I believe this procedure works even if you cannot "connect" to the local database):
To create (automatically generate) a database connection for each unlocked user account in the Oracle database instance
on the local system, right-click the Connections node and select Create Local Connections. The connections are placed in
a folder named Auto-Generated Local Connections. Note that for these autogenerated connections (except for the one
named system-<database-name>), you will always be prompted for the password when you connect, and you cannot edit
the user name or password in the connection properties dialog box.Next, if this what you are actually asking, and you have a local database installed, then you need to make sure your database listener is up and running. Open a command line and try these commands:
lsnrctl statusIf it is not already started, either start it with
lsnrctl startor otherwise from your Windows Administrator Tools -> Services -> Oracle<home>Listener (right-click: Start)
    Hope this helps,
    Gary

  • Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original location - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it

Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original locations - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it - also, when transferring large amounts of files it becomes a very large problem remembering which files were transferred and which not.

You're going to need to be more specific, as I'm not quite sure I understand what you're talking about.
If you're referring to copying from an external hard drive or flash drive, and you want to actually move files rather than copy them, you can hold down the option key to force it to do a "move" rather than a "copy." This is not new behavior, though... the Mac OS has worked this way as long as I can recall (and I've been using it since 1984).
If you're having a problem with trying to move files from one place to another on a single drive causing them to be copied instead, that is likely because of some permissions issue preventing you from actually being able to move them.

  • How to Change Default User Directory without changing System Directory

    Hi Everyone,
I need to change default User Directory for my JDeveloper 11.1.1.0.2.
    Default User Directory = C:/JDeveloper/mywork
    Default System Directory = *<JDEV_HOME>/System*
Now I Need to Change it to

    But System's Default Dir = *<JDEV_HOME>/System*(Same)
For this i explicitly Set variable ide.user.dir to C:/Monty/JDev11g2/ in JDev.boot file as explained in Installation document.
Working fine but it contains System Folder too. I don't want this.

  • Where is the system directory of JDeveloper 10.1.2.1?

In JHeadstart 10g for ADF Installation Guide, it says the followings:
If you want to be able to use JHeadstart Designer Generator: in <JHeadstartHome>\config\jdevaddins you will also find a file named migration.xml. This file must be copied to the system directory of JDeveloper, for example: <JDeveloperHome>\jdev\system10.1.2.0.0.1811. On Linux this directory is in the home directory of the user that is running JDeveloper: $HOME/jdevhome/system10.1.2.0.0.1811. The exact name of this directory depends on the build number of JDeveloper.
But, there is no directory like <JDeveloperHome>\jdev\system10.1.2.0.0.1811 in JDeveloper 10g(Version 10.1.2.1, build 1913) New Aug 2005.
    Where is it?

You have to start JDev 10.1.2.1 once before the
system directory is created under the /jdev
directory. The name will be something like
    system10.1.2.1.0.1913.

  • Tivoli Access Manager 6.0 with Sun Java System Directory 6.3

    Hi,
We have been using Tivoli Access Manager 6.0 with Sun Java System Directory 6.3 .
Using IBM TAM Java API we can administer the user creation but the API provide support only to create user with required attribute as user name, password, description, setAccoutntvalid etc.
But Sun Java System Directory 6.3 contains the many attributes as just to name a few...
First Name (givenname), User ID (uid),Password (userPassword), Confirm Password
E-mail (mail), Telephone Number (telephoneNumber), Country (c),Fax Number (facsimileTelephoneNumber), Locality (l), Organization (o), Organizational Unit (ou), accessHint, accountHint, departmentNumber, description, destinationIndicator, displayName, employeeNumber ETC...
Now My Issue is if we need to add the values for other attributes as "accessHint" , "employeeNumber" etc, then how can we acheive using IBM TAM Java API or is there any other way.
    Thanks for your kind help...

Looks like the attribute sunIdentityServerDiscoEntries is defined twice in the schema. Run the following and see where it is defined for the second time.
    # cd /var/opt/SUNWdsee/dsins1/config/schema
    # grep -w sunIdentityServerDiscoEntries *.ldif | grep -iv objectclasses

  • SSD for system directory (boot drive)?

I'm curious why anyone would recommend an ssd drive for the system directory (boot drive). From what I read about ssd's, if there is a lot of (re)writing to the drive, the performance will degrade with time due to the way ssd's (re)allocate free space. Given that the paging space (backing store) would be on that drive (unless you go out of your way to place it elsewhere) and also the system caches, wouldn't you expect the performance to degrade with time? Yes, you can stick a bunch of memory on the machine and that may reduce paging. But still, over time, I would still expect the performance to still degrade.
So explain to me what's the _long term_ benefit of a ssd drive for your boot device?

Most people when it comes to storage know about StorageReview.
    That's you're assumption.
I've only started researching this question since last week. There's nothing at that site that specifically answers it so I wouldn't be attracted there.
And because I just posted on Thursday a couple long replies on
SSD in another thread with a link, that I would hope was picked
    up and read by others
A search of "storagereview" yields a hit on one of your posts On Sept 4 ("Are SSD harddrives faster ?"), four days before I even joined these forums! Searches here didn't yield anything and I wasn't about to wade through 200 pages of titles if searches didn't yield anything. And I don't know you from Adam so there would be no reason to look for your posts.

  • Alter SYS & SYSTEM pwd on any database

I have 96 instances and have to establish a policy of enforced SYS & SYSTEM password changes on a monthly basis.
I would like to schedule an OEM job to do it; does anyone have any experience of doing this? I believe it can be done as a PL/SQL job using the DBMS_SQL.OPEN_CURSOR and DBMS_SQL.PARSE procedures to execute the alter user command.
    Any help gratefully received.

96 instances? do you have to administer the same users on all databases as well? If so, you might want to go for an account sync-ing solution where all credentials are stored in a central place and a change of a user in any of the databases or the central place will update all 96 instances for you. Novell's DirXml will do just that for you. I've had some great experiences with it.
(I don't have much experience with jobs, so sorry, no direct answer from me)

  • Refresh of BW System without deleting the source system

    Hello experts
I want to know, is it possible to refresh BW system without deleting the source system.
That means I just do the renaming via BDLS and reconnect.
If I do so, do I have a post refresh activities.
According to OSS note 886102  and 184447, there are 3 scenarios:
Scenario A: You want to copy the entire system infrastructure connected by the BW source system connections (that means the entire system group).
Scenario B: You want to copy a single BW system of the group, the sourcesystem is not copied.
Scenario C: You want to replace a single sourcesystem of a BW-system with another system using a database or client copy (Example: Refresh of the OLTP consolidation system by a copy of the OLTP production system). The BW system is not copied
Assuming I use Scenario A, can I refresh BW system without deleting the source system.

  • Sun Java System Directory Server 5.2

    Hi,
We were informed by a third party that we can download Sun Java System Directory Server 5.2 SP 1 from the Sun downloads area. However, we couldn't find 5.2 Service Pack 1. We did find that Directory Server 5 2005Q4 (5.2 patch 4) is the only one available for download.
Is 5.2 patch 4 equivalent to 5.2 Service Pack 4?
Is there such thing as Directory Server 5.2 Service Pack 1?
We saw that 5.1 had multiple Service Packs available for download, will the 5.2 Service Packs be made available for downloading?
    Cheers,
    Cate

Sun has changed the terminology for micro releases from Service Packs (5.1 release) to patched versions (5.2 release).
Therefore Directory Server 5.2 patch4 is the latest update of Directory Server 5.2 release (would have been called Service Pack with the former terminology).
Only the most recent version is available for download from the Sun Downloads site..
But we've never released 5.2patch1, as far as I remember.
