  • System account appears to be locked

I'm trying to access an Oracle 10g database (running on HP-UX) from my Windows XP laptop. I've installed the Instant Client, the ODBC driver, and set up the tnsnames.ora file. However, when I try to test my ODBC connection using the system account I get the following error:
    ORA-28000: The account is locked.
I've tried this with both the Oracle and DataDirect ODBC drivers and I get the same result.
I thought the system account was unlocked by default, so I'm not sure if it's related to the account or to my local settings. I'm new to Oracle so I'd appreciate any suggestions from you seasoned users.
    Thanks,
    nkeliher

I was able to telnet to the db server, log in as sysdba, and unlock the system account. But it turns out the password I had been given for 'system' was wrong in the first place, so I created another account scott/tiger, granted connect and then tested the driver from my laptop and it worked fine.
    Thanks for your quick response.

i want to disable the locking of the user systemNo you don't. That is a security hole.
What you want to do is find out where the bad connection attempts are coming from and address that issue.

  • SYSTEM account gets locked automatically

    Hi,
Recently I started the oem agent on one of the box. Since then, the system account gets locked frequently.
Can you please guide how can I investigate on this ?
Also, I checked the failed accounts in recent times and I can see someone is connecting from terminal "pts/4".
Please help to resolve this asap.
    Regards,
    Harry

Please specify your OS and DB versions.

"pts/4".It means someone is trying to hack the system account. I assume you have configure audit options so you can log where this attempts come from. Even though you have already realized attacks come from pts/4 it will only have sense if you are able to discover in the few minutes what's the actual terminal attached from pts/4. On the other hand, it sounds to me that someone opened a session in a unix like box, and is able to see the os where the database resides. If this is the case, look for the output from the os command 'last' to find out further information about pts/4. If this hacker has reached the OS, it is a serious matter, it could quite easily get signed to the database if it is OS authenticated.

  • SYSTEM accounts gets locked

    Hello:
I used the Database Configuration Assistant to create a new instance.
However, the account SYSTEM gets locked. When I used EM as SYS, I see that it said "Locked/Timed" Why does this happen and how can prevent the account from getting locked?
    Thank you.
    Venkat

Could you tell your environment, version of db.
AS such, when you create your database on Oracle9i, most of the accounts are locked except sys and system and you do need to specify the password when installing oracle.
Just unlock the account and log back in as SYSTEM and logout and log as sys then see if the SYSTEM account is locked again.

  • System Status Lock

In my company I am creating project, with reference to WBS / Activity we are creatin Purchase order. We want a temporary status in project by virtue of which we can avoid any further PO against the particular project. How to achieve this ?
I tried to do this with lock status in PS but although I set up Lock for Header level WBS still I can make PO against the project.
Wht is significance of system stastus lock ?
    Pl suggest.
    Regds

You can either use user status for controlling this, I've mentioned about how this needs to be done is previous post, link below:
    Re: Project Purchase order
Else you can set Lock Account Assignment  for the WBS, this will stop PO creation against the WBS.

  • Administrator account locked/password was changed

    Hi All,
Administrator account locked/password was changed. Is there any way to see the logs to see when this happened or by whom?
Any way to lock this down then  it can't be changed by another administrator account? Limit it so it can only be seen/changed by  some people like A or B?

  • *** System Prefs Locking Up ***

Anybody having problems with System Prefs locking up when left open for a while? I have to force quit it.
    Am running 10.4.10
    Mac Pro 2.66Ghz
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I know this sound general, but did you repair your permissions? Create a different user account, and see if it still does it. It probably won't.

  • Help!  My account lock icon will not open?

I noticed recently that when trying to download apple updates that the account and password window would not open to allow the update to finish downloading. I checked system preferences and system accounts and the lock icon is closed and when clicked will not open.  My correct Admin name is listed but I can't access Login Options.  This is preventing all actions that need login verification (updates, time machine, downloads, etc.)  I want to download Snow Leopard but will be blocked when login window does not open.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated as I've searched the discussions in vain on this problem.  I am old and not the brightest bulb on the technical side.

Just wanted to post the solution to my problem as a number of people checked the discussion.  My main problem was that in System Preferences the Padlock symbol would not unlock (authentication would not produce the needed login window to proceed).  This was causing multiple problems (no downloads, updates, time machine, etc would function).  Below is the discussion that I finally found that addressed the problem and the solution which was an Archive and Install from the OS 10.5 DVD. Hats off to (jevlewt and Bob Gold) from 2009 for getting me back on track.

  • "System" user locked

Hello all. For entering in  Oracle 10g Db we start SQLPLUS. user-name "system" and
password  containing @ (my mistake), TNS error view. Presently I know that problem
in "@" symbol. While understood the user "system" is locked....
As possible change password and unlock the user?
Or create the the new user for Oracle....
    Please advise ....

    ups,
I forgot that part, we are giving the answer in small pieces
    Resume for "dummies"
    1) Connect to the database
    sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
    2) Unlock the user ( as  William Fee post )
    ALTER USER xxxxx ACCOUNT UNLOCK;
    3) Change the password ( as my post )
Alter user system identified by <newpassword>
    4) a bit optional ( IMHO ) change the profile  ( as  William Fee post )
    ALTER PROFILE DEFAULT LIMIT FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS UNLIMITED;

  • How to audit SYSTEM account

Apparently, the AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS=TRUE does not audit the SYSTEM account.
But how do we audit the SYSTEM account?
Have you ever use the AUDIT USER SYSTEM command to audit the SYSTEM account?
If there is no way to audit the SYSTEM account, can it be locked such that no one can use it connect to the database except be system tasks?
    Thanks.

    Thanks Legatti.
The database in question is version 9.2. The AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS is set to true. In the AUD$ table, there are many audit records (login/loff) of the SYSTEM account.
Unlike SYS, there is nothing found for the SYSTEM account in the O/S audit files.
I think Oracle may treat SYSTEM as an user account in the audit aspect. I'll push our DBA to test whether AUDIT USER SYSTEM is allowed. And if allowed, whether there will be any performance issues. Thanks.

  • LDAP account locking with Windows (smbldap)

We're running directory server 7 in our area and it's all set up and
working. We're using the smbldap-tools in conjunction to have the
    directory server allow domain logins.
The main issue is that we want to enforce account lockouts after 5
failed attempts. When using the built-in password policy in the
directory server to do this, and a user locks their account, they can no
longer log into any of the linux systems (what we want). However, with
windows, a user can still log in with their current password, if they
type a bad password, they get an error saying there's a problem with
their account....so the locking doesn't work.
My theory is just that the LDAP server is preventing windows from seeing
some of the attributes once the account is locked...probably preventing
info from being written to the samba bad password count.
Do you know if there's a way to modify the LDAP server configuration
such that when an account is locked out, to modify OTHER attributes than
the defaults? So, if the directory server enables the lockout, it
modifies not only the pwdaccountlockedtime field, but also, say,
    sambaAccountFlags?
    Thanks for any tips.

We're running Windows XP systems. Unfortunately we're not running AD, but rather a Samba server, which is storing its information in the Sun Directory Server. I'm not sure if the Identity Synchronization will work with Samba or not. I can also take a look at this windows bug and see if maybe just changing the timeout on the old passwords. If that prevents people from logging in due to an account locking, good enough for me. I think the biggest concern is that we prevent users from accessing their accounts in the event they get locked.
Is what I'm trying to do possible with an ACI perhaps? I'm not familiar enough with the ACIs to know. So, basically IF the pwdaccountlockedtime flag OR the smbacctflag looks a certain way, prevent users from accessing any information from the LDAP server.

  • Should i disable system accounts?

Hallo to everyone! I am trying to harden solaris 10 x86 and I read a recommendation (from CIS) to lock system accounts (bin, nuucp, smmsp, listen, gdm, webservd, nobody, noaccess, nobody4).
    Why should i do that?
Isn't it risky for the proper operation of my system, to lock these accounts?
    Thanks in advance

compare that list to those listed in the basic admin guide.
For better security remove the ethernet cable and any modems.
For the ultimate security remove the power cord.

  • FMS Developer Ed & Local System account

Is it only possible to run the FMS service as the Local
System account in Windows Server 2003? I tried to change the Log On
params to a user with privileges to another server's share but the
service won't start up afterward. And in the info box in the FMS
Admin app there is a little tiny tooltip within the popup message
that says something about "License info". I changed the user back
to Local System account and the service started up right away. I'm
trying to test an app's ability to access a different path that's
    set in the application.xml <VirtualDirectory><Streams>
    node.
So, is it a limitation of the FMS Developer edition or is it
something on our end? I thought the only limitation was 10
    conncections.

... i have unchecked that from there and again after some minutes say 10 -15 minutes it gets locked ...
    Hi,
Perhaps you can look into these areas for stored (and expired) password:
Check to see if there are any Services that is running using the affected administrator account.
Check to see if there are any Scheduled Tasks running using the affected administrator account.
    Hope that helps.
    Cheers,
    Tas Chew
