System Copy in MSCS environment

Hi all!
We are in the process of upgrading our R/3 4.7x200 system to ERP2005 unicode. The upgrade and unicode conversion of Dev and Test have been successful, and now Production is next. By the way, we are not doing a combined upgrade and unicode conversion. The difference is that Prod is in a MSCS environment, while the other to are Central systems.
I have a question about how to perform a system copy procedure in a MSCS environment. As part of the Unicode conversion where I have to uninstall SAP (source and target systems are to be on the same hardware), and install it again as a system copy. I am wondering about the steps, and sequence of steps that needs to be performed in order to get the installation identical to what it is today. One node contains the Central Instance and the second node contains the database instance with MS SQL 2005. Do you have any tips for me?
I have recieved some information saying that I can perform the system copy as a Distributed environment, installing the central instance on one host, and the database on the other. My concern is that this will not fullfill the requirements for a cluster environment, where one node (node A) can failover to the other (node B) and vice versa.
Can you please advise on what the best option is and steps are?
Any input is highly appreciated!
Best Regards,
Thomas

Of course:)
What I did was basically to follow the instructions provided in the ERP 2005 installation guide, chapter 7. This refers to MSCS installation steps. I also used the System Copy guide for ERP 2005, which referred heavily to the installation guide. It wasn't as hard as it seemed to in the first place.
Good luck to anyone in the same situation, and do not hesitate to ask questions if needed.
Regards,
Thomas

  • System copy based on export/import on MSCS

    Hi,
a NW 7.0 istance (BW usage) on MSCS... we would like to copy to new host (as dev refresh). This MSCS is made of:
    - host1 (first node)
    - host2 (second node)
    - mscdhost (mscs virtual host)
    - orahost (oracle virtualhost... on a dedicated group)
    - saphost (sap virtual host on a dedicate group)
Central istance is installed on host1 and a dialog istance is installed on host2.
So for the export I run sapinst (Software Life-Cycle OptionsSystem Copy / Oracle / Source System / Distributed System / High-Availability System / Based on ABAP and Java):
    Preparation as: sapinst.exe SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=orahost
    Table splitting as: sapinst.exe SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=orahost
    Db Export as: sapinst.exe SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=orahost
    Central Istance as: sapinst.exe SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=host1
    Is it OK?

  • Homgeneouos system copy - Import/Export

    Hello everybody,
I have successfully upgrade system( ECC 5.0) m from windows 2003 (32)+ SQL 2000 to windows 2003 (64-bit) + SQL 2005. using attach /detach method, in post processing execute STM tool, update stats etc.
But we found performance is not much of improve previous system with only 4 GB RAM, new one with 32 GB RAM.
I have remove the parameter PHYS_MEMSIZE parameter from the profile so it is under ZERO MEMORY MGT.
This above said in testing environment till.
For testing, I planning for the same using export/import
    Plan :
    Source system
    1. Now, Export the database by executing sapinst.exe and then
select ABAP system-->MS SQL server -->Unicode -->ABAP Database content export
and continue with the Export procedure.
    On the Target system
    1. Create a directory EXPORT and copied all the exported data.
    2. Start the SAP installation(only start database instance installation), enter the required parameters up to the
window selecting the database instance installation method, on this
I will choose System copy/migration(R3load based)
    3. provide the path of the Export directory.
    4. Specify the order in which the package are loaded - I select alphabetical order
    5. No other option will select on this screen.
So for testing, I simply database export from source system and on target system I execute only Database instance installation, all process successfully done.
We have not any BW client so I am generate the DDL statement
Pleas suggest above plan is correct or anything missing?
    will improve performance of system?
    Thanks
    Ganesh

    HI!
As per suggested for DDL statement generation, we have no any productive BW client,
i tried on our Qaulity system by logging on regular using client, message display DDL statement
generated successfully,. but when I check in usr\sap\tmp folder there no file
    1. Unicode migration option selection is necessary?
in installation directory path is only /tmp so I checked in ( usr\sap\tmp) directory.
    2.
Above procedure is correct, but during target system installation please continue with SAPinst to install SAP instance as well.
As above statement, I started installation on Target system by SAPinst then from option
      mySAP EPR 2004 SR1
         System copy
              Target system
                 ABAP system
                    MS SQL Server

                              Central instance installation
                              Database instance installation
                              MSCS Node A Configuration
                              MSCS Node B Configuration
                              Dialog instance installation
                              internet graphic server upgrad
I select  Database instance installation Database instance installation option. No any other process I have done.
    3. is same procedure for  system copy in clustering environment ( because our Production system in windows 2003 (64 -bit) clustering environment.
    4. After installation complet, in post processing  need to use STM tool, update static etc.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks

  • Multiple SAP systems in a MSCS

can someone tell me that he/she installed multiple SAP systems in a MSCS environment?
    DB:ms sqlserver 2005
OS:windows server 2003 enterprise edition cluster
    sap: ecc 6.0 and BW

    HI,
yes, is possible as of 700 systems.
you have to do it with your SAP Global Technology Partner, document "Installation of Multiple SAP Systems in MSCS: MS SQL Server" (Oracle etc) is available on

  • System copy Oracle 10.2 in MSCS

    Hi,
we need to move (using system copy) for a old MSCS cluster to new HW MSCS cluster of our NW04s (Abap and Java) + Oracle 10.2.0.2 + Win03 X86.
I would like to use backup/restore method due a very large Oracle database.
OK, I've already move a stand alone system to a MSCS using backup/restore method... but now, into MSCS source system I can't select method of backup/restore export to generare SDM, ecc. jar file to complete system copy on target system.
Is it possible to use a Oracle backup/restore method to copy an existing MSCS to new MSCS ?
    Regards.
    Ganimede Dignan

    Hi,
    >there should be no functional difference in systemcopy in MSCS compared to standalone configuration.
    >
    >because SDM is installed on a local instance you should run the steps on this node where the SDM is >installed on.
I suppose that but during db export on source system we are not be able to flag "use database specifc tools"
    http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/2825/12584947li9.gif
(this is a previus hom. system copy based on Oracle backup/restore... but not in MSCS)
We can't see this step and SAPinst jump directly to export path request.

  • System copy for R/3 4.7 MSCS

    Hi all,
Currently we are planning a system copy using R3Load import/export on R/3 4.7. Below is the details:
Target : New PRD with clustering MSCS & OFS configured (both win & oracle 64 bit)
Source: Old PRD with clustering MSCS & OFS configured (both win & oracle 32 bit)
    Questions:
    1. the target is already been configured with all the clustering setup and installed with SAP with old data. Now, we just want to copy the latest old PRD data to the target. we plan to skip all the step and just re-run the DB import step using the SAPinst R3load import/export method. Does the sapinst 6.40 will auto drop the DB & re-create DB during import?
    2. If the sapinst 6.40 can't drop & re-create, how we can drop the DB & re-import the new DB?
    Thanks

If your target system is up and running then you can use database specific tools to copy your database.
Ie: online / offline backup to restore from your old to new system.
You can go thorugh the docs under : SAP on Oracle

  • Homogeneous System Copy Doubts

    Hi,
We are planning for the ECC 5.0 Installation on MSCS.
And we have some doubts over it.
we need to Install the System in the Cluster Environment of 64 bit OS and Oracle 10g. Where as we have the existing system having OS 32 bit and database Oracle 9i. We need to do a Homogeneous System Copy.
Do we need to update the Kernel Patch level to the Latest on both the system?
Is there anyother specific steps to be carried out for this scenario????
    Please Help Me!!!
    Regards

    -> plz check out sapnote n° 960.769 - Windows: Migration fronm 32-bit to 64-bit (x86_64)
-> ECC 50 -> kernel 6.40, which should be fully supported according to the above mentioned sapnote :-D
-> plz get installation guides (both: system copy AND installation guide für ECC50/ERP2004) and the relevant sapnotes
-> export of database on oracle 9i and import into 10g is supported and possible when using r3load mechanism

  • Hardware migration on MSCS environment

We are trying to migrate our Quality Assurance system(QAS) system which is on a MSCS environment to a new hardware. The SAP version is ECC 5.0 on a oracle 9.2 and Windows 2000 server. The size of the DB is approximately 800GB, and we cannot afford a downtime of more than 24 hours.
Hence "system copy" will not be possible as it would need a very long downtime.
We also plan to adopt the same strategy on our Production server.
Could somebody suggest the best possible option other than system copy that we could use to migrate our system to the new hardware with minimum downtime?

    Rock,
Are you sure about your estimates? I've taken 1.5TB systems via SAP export in 10 hours for a system copy method.
Another option is to build your QAS system as new (using all the same SID as your current QAS system) then use an offline/online backup to restore it. The same for your prod system - we did a migration where we took a backup one weekend, restored it on the new hardware the next week, then used the redo logs from the live production system to get it up to date - like a hot standby. When we made the cuttover, the whole process took about 30 minutes between taking the old prod system offline to bringing the new system online.
This, of course, will only really work well if you are not changing the SID, which it sounds like you are not.
The system copy via SAPINST is a better method if you are looking to adjust/change SIDs in the system.
    Best of luck!

  • Livecache patch upgrade in MSCS environment

    Hello everyone,
I have installed livecache 7.7.02   BUILD 008-123-149-275 in MSCS and planning to upgrade the patch level to KERNEL    7.7.04   BUILD 029-123-196-543.
    My installation type is,
Independent Programs directory      - local hard disk
Independent Data Directory             - distributed disk
Instance Dependent directory          - local hard disk
So note Note 508979 - Upgrade of SAP DB/MaxDB/liveCache w/ Cluster MSCS Var.1 applies in my case.
However, need help in understanding one section of this note,
Points 14 and 15 talk about  notes on how to run SDBUPD, however do not specify whether SDBUPD is to be run on node B. After manually copying the files to node B, as described in the note, do we still need to run upgrade (SDBUPD) on node 2 ?
Also, It would be great to have some more reading on Livecache upgrades in MSCS environment.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Kiran

    Hello Ivan,
    Thanks for the reply.
I started upgrading livecache patch as per note 508979. Completed the patch upgrade node 1 using SDBINST. Completed all the steps till step 13. On step 14, I started SDBUPD on node B.
At this stage I get following message on command prompt,

  • Assertion failed: Unable to load database SID during sybase system copy on Linux in the phase "Create DB"

    Hi Supports,
I am using sapinst homogeneous system copy in Linux on sybase.
I stuck on the the step 27/49 "create Database".
    I checked Firewall is off.
i got  points in my sapinst_dev.log that "
1)The log segment in the target database 'SID' is too small (9216 MB) to accommodate the log segment from the dumped database (10240 MB)"
    and
2)"Can't change the owner of the master, model, tempdb or sybsystemprocs database"
Do i need to increase "sybase/SID/saplog_1" ?  because my "saplog_1" is 49 mb now.
if it is ! how do i increase in this stage.
can any one know about this error???
    Thanks,

    Hi,
When i seen SID.log file so its showing deadlock and checkpoint occurring,
    Is any solution ???
    Is this because of networks?
we had 2 servers on this same IP. but i stopped one server and one is still running.
please find my SID.log file and revert back if any soltion.

    Hi,
You can check the defined enviornment variable using command prompt and System properties.
Open Command Prompt and give "set" command. It will show you active environment variable.
You can also set missing environment variables in system properties.
    Start -->Control Panel --> System
On Advanced Tab --> Environment Variables.
After logging to the database if it shows message "Connected to idle instance", that means your database is not started.
Please start the database using below SQL command.
    Open Command Prompt
    C:\Sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL>startup
Once it says "Database opened", retry SAP installation.
You can also check the database status in SQL prompt using below command:
    SQL> select instance_name,status from v$instance;
    It must show output like:
    INSTANCE_NAME    STATUS
    <SID>              OPEN
    Regards.

  • "Table VSEOPARENT is not in the database" after system copy to x64

    Hi SDNners,
We've just completed a system copy of our SolMan 3.1 system onto a new
(Xeon x64 based) server. This system copy is part of the process of
moving SolMan 3.1 from an old server onto 64bit hardware and then
upgrading it to SolMan v4 and Oracle 10G.
Although the system appears to start properly in the MMC, we are unable
to log into the system through SAPGUI - we get a SYNTAX_ERROR window
    instead of a logon screen.
I've checked the SysLog from within the MMC and noticed a number of
    errors stating:
Database: Table VSEOPARENT is not in the database
Database: Table VSEOIFIMPL is not in the database
Database: Table VSEOIFCOMP is not in the database
I tried running SQL command 'select * from "SAPSOL"."VSEOPARENT"; and
it confirmed that the table didn't exist. I then ran the same command
on the source SolMan system and it showed that VSEOPARENT DID exist. I
don't understand how these VSEO* tables could have gone missing between
    the source and target systems.
I've searched OSS for VSEO* and cannot find anything. Please help!
    Thanks,
    Arwel.

    Hi Arwel,
how exactly did you copy the database to the new server?
the tables you stated are an essential part of the ABAP runtime environment, so the syntax error is surely because of these tables are missing.
    Regards,
    Pascal

  • Error while system copy

    Hi, All:
    Homogeneouos system copy
    OS: Windows 2003
    DB: MaxDB 7.6
    SAP system: CRM 5.0 ABAP&Java
During the step "Import ABAP data", error occurs. The error messages from <b>sapinst.log, import_monitor.log, SAPSSEXC_1.log</b> are posted below.
I tried to re-copy the export files from the source system, but it still doesn't work. Does it mean the export file <b>SAPSSEXC_1</b> is destroyed?
BTW, the cache_size from Database Manager is 180096, is it too small?
    Anyone met the same problem?
Any info will be highly appreciated! Thanks!
