  • Ntoskrnl.exe 100% disk usage windows 8.0 and 8.1

This is a bug report. I hope Microsoft will take it seriously as it took me a whole day and much stress to track it down. Basically my problem was the same as this: http://slopjong.de/2013/04/23/extremely-high-disk-activity-with-windows-8-and-how-to-fix-it/
However in the graphic on this site it appears to show that Virtualbox is the culprit. However this is unlikely to be the case, as the author of the site fixed his problem by following his own advice. This is an extremely common problem as this Google search
    indicates:
    https://www.google.co.uk/#q=ntoskrnl.exe+100+disk+usage+windows+8
To attempt to address my own problem first I disabled all non-microsoft services in Windows 8.1 professional. When this had no effect on the problem, I then disabled all non-essential Microsoft services. In turn. when this has no effect I disabled all user
installed start-up items. Again when this failed to have an impact, I changed my browser from Firefox to Google Chrome, as I noted that the extremely high disk utilisation was at it's worst when using Firefox. This also had no effect.
I then tried a variation of my search on Google "ntoskrnl.exe 100 disk usage windows 8" (I can't remember the exact variation) and stumbled over the above site at the beginning of this message. I had by that point tried everything that was in my power
to try. But I noted from this article that the author recommended changing the power plan from 'balanced', to 'high performance'. Since I had   exhausted every other avenue, I decided to try this and like magic, instantly it worked. So there is clearly
a bug in Windows 8.1 (and 8 prior to this) that causes 100% disk utilisation. I thought someone at MS might like to know about it and come up with a way to fix it.
Below is my system configuration. Please note this system configuration may contain a number of errors, as it was generated with several non-essential Microsoft services disabled. I do not believe these issues need to be addressed. However the issue of 100%
disk utilisation when using a 'balanced' power plan on Windows 8.1 (and 8.0) almost certainly does.
    PS
This message board system will not allow me to post my full system configuration. MS need a better bug reporting system! Apple allow the public to submit bug reports, so why not Microsoft too. The public can find useful bugs!

  • High disk usage/high memory usage.

i keep getting high memory usage and high disk usage in ps cs6.
its slow when i open a file. how can i solve this problem.
    thank you.
    philip.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but more than what?  More RAM is almost always better, but you haven't answered most of the questions posed here.  The answer might be different if you have 2 GB of RAM or 32 GB of RAM already.  A 9 megapixel document could get rather large with a lot of layers, but again you've neglected to give any hard info about its size.
Regarding your video card, that's a bit of a judgment call you need to make.  For Photoshop CS6 I currently advise people to try to get a video card that gets a score of 1000 or better on this benchmark:  http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
Video card speed will matter when you're editing those 3D components and video card VRAM will also matter, but possibly even more importantly your GeForce 320 is a bit old, and nVidia may just not be doing their best driver work for it any more.
Everything in general will run more smoothly with a powerful modern video card.  I like to recommend a VisionTek ATI Radeon HD 7750 - or if the computer power supply and your budget allow, the even more powerful 7850.  VisionTek does a very good job with their hardware, IMO, and it comes with a lifetime guarantee.
Keep in mind that if you switch from nVidia to ATI or vice versa, you should carefully sweep your system to ensure all files from the old card are removed, then visit the web site of the new card's maker and download/install their latest display driver release.
    Best of luck.

  • RAM Issues + High disk usage on MSI GE60

Recently I've noticed that my system slowly eats up RAM. It starts off at 21% and can go as high up as 80% or more. When I'm playing games on it the RAM does not clear up properly either, it stays at 50% or so. This was an issue before that I somehow managed to solve, but it is back again.
As for high disk usage, that's been a problem since I've had the laptop.
    OS: Windows 8
    Processor: Intel Core i7 4700MQ (2.40GHz)
    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M
    RAM: 8GB Memory
    HDD: 750GB
If you need more info I'll provide it.

If you open task manager-> performance -> open resource manager / you will see whats eating up your resources
if its windows see if indexing is off
did you installed 3rd party software diffrent than stock ?
    how old is your laptop?
its not normal to have such high usage numbers !! i think its a program causing the problems !
if you check your resource manager you will be able to see whats causing it
ps if possible please post a screen shot and ill look into it

  • KDE 4.7: very slow and high disk usage

Since upgrade to KDE 4.7 on my i686 laptop, my system behaves weirdly. I noticed a slow down caused by a very high disk usage: when the HDD spins the cpu usage reported by the CPU monitor plasmoid is very high (~ 50%), while top reports a very small CPU load. Another strange symptom is that, when I try to close the session, the system freezes for about 15 seconds before the logout/shutdown/restart dialog window appears, again with HDD spinning furiously. If I exit the dialog window and then try to close session again it works smoothly, so I think some caching is at work at second try.
This is very painful since it slows down my workflow. Since now I tried to:
    - disable nepomuk, strigi and all that using the nepomukcontroller plasmoid
    - disable compositing
    - delete .kde folder
    - uninstall and reinstall all kde packages
without any benefit. On the same laptop I have dual boot with a 64 bit arch installation, which does not have the same problem, nor has it my 64 bit desktop pc.
Does anyone have similar issues? I don't understand what is it that makes the HDD spin so much, nor how to eventually track it down (are there som HDD usage profiling utilities?). Moreover, why top and CPU usage plasmoid report so different CPU usage stats?
I'm very confused, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Although I'm not having any of the issues as Snack, I have found KDE 4.7.0 to be a very horrible release. In fact, I'm sick and tired of the KDE release notes bragging about killing thousands of bugs each release, when in actuality the first few revisions of each stable release are horrible. When I first upgraded, I ran into at least four really nasty bugs. Although I've worked around some of them, it left a really sour taste in my mouth. Here is what I've experienced:
1.) With a new user or fresh install, there is no wallpaper by default, even if I install kde-wallpapers before I log in, it makes no difference.
2.) Sometimes kwin will crash during log out.
3.) Worse yet, if I exit a full screen game, it will more than likely crash Kwin. This is a problem on my laptop (which has intel video) and not my desktop (which has nvidia video). If I don't remember to disable desktop effects before opening a game, I may run into a problem.
4.) Although my performance is good, it's not great. I would think a laptop with a Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM would run faster than it is.
I have tested XFCE for a bit, and I do like it alot. However, with XFCE I am unable to browse Samba shares, and that is a huge problem. In addition, I find KDE's applications to be much better than what ships with XFCE, but I question whether they're worth the performance hit. I really love Kate, Gwenview, Digikam, and Amarok. I know you can install those in XFCE, but they feel out of place and then my desktop pretty much becomes a mutt. Not only that, but KDE is full featured, whereas XFCE is not. It's like I have to choose between a stable desktop or a desktop with full of bugs.
I hope that KDE 4.7.1 fixes everything, but historically it's usually the 4.x.2 release that really does the trick.

  • Slowed speed, freezes, high disk usage

After I have been on the computer for about 10-15 minutes, it starts to freeze and slow down. I get a high disk usage message from Norton saying that Windows Explorer Exe. is causing this. I also keep getting the same 5 updates even after I have installed them. I have a Compaq Presario SR5602FH Desktop PC Using windows home basic. Also the Hp updater does not open anymore.

Norton is pretty good but you still could have viruses. I don't think you do and I believe it is your hard drive going bad.  I would try to run check disk and if your laptop has the utility partition, test your memory and hard drive.

  • System memory vs disk usage -- why is my hard drive almost full if my system memory is half empty?

I have a white Macbook, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB of memory, Mac OS X, version 10.5.8, purchased in 2008. My Mac keeps warning me that my startup disk is almost full, and indeed Activity Monitor shows that my disk usage has minimal free space (2.31 GB). However, the System Memory tab shows that half my space is free.
Does the discrepancy mean that there is lots of space left on my Mac? If not, how can I identify if some sort of error is filling up my memory? Right now, I have a lot of music and documents stored on my laptop, but nothing else, and I would like to be sure it's those two things that are filling up the space.
What is the recommended method for adding more memory to my Mac, if nothing else?

There are two different types of memory in your Mac. There is system memory, more commonly referred to as RAM, and there is disk space. RAM is where the Mac works on data. Disk space is where data is stored for long term storage.
You are in serious danger of causing your Mac to die completely by running it with so little free space on your system drive. It is imperative that you start either deleting or move data off the disk drive. You should have 8 to 10 time as much free space at least at all times for OS X to run will.
A tool that can  with cleaning up your disk drive is OmniDiskSweeper. It will tell you the files and fol,der that are using the most space. That will give you good candidates for deletion or movement.

  • Fileserver.exe high memory usage

    Hi all,
I am using BOXI3.0 installed on Tomcat & Windows Server 2003. I discover there is a high memory usage of fileserver.exe, always over 50%. After reboot the SIA, the memory usage drops back to 0. I have a regular reboot every weekend but still got that error. Anything I can check?
And in the log, AAMetrics_xxxxxxxxx.log, I found there is an error
    assert failure: (d:/Titan_RTM/src/Common/export/iface\cxlib/refcount.h:89). (SNonInterlockedRead(&m_lRefCount) == 0 : no message).
Anyone knows what it is and how to solve it?
    Thanks you in advanced.
    Grace

I am using BOXI 3.0. Do you have any recommendation on which version of fix pack? or simply upgrade to 3.1 is better?
Some people said we cannot upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1 directly, instead, we need to uninstall the BOXI 3.0 and reinstall the 3.1. Do you have any experience on it?
    Many thanks.

  • Settingsynchost.exe high Cpu usage

    Hello Everybody,
So lets get to the point.I clean installed Windows 10 Tech Preview Build 9841 x64 on my Hp pavilion g4 1303-au laptop
    Specs of my laptop :
Amd a4-3330mx Radeon HD 6480g Microprocessor
    6 GB DDR3 Ram 1333 Mhz
    500 GB HDD
what i found problematic in this build (ie.,build 9841) was that when i first boot my laptop after clean install,i opened my task manager and found that Settingsynchost.exe was using 25-35% of cpu without doing anything. My fan was throttling so fast than
normal.I was really so pissed off with that so i retrieved back to my old win8.1 pro x64.So can anyone tell me how to fix this Settingsynchost.exe bug from tech preview because i want to see more aspects of window 10 and give my utmost regards for it.
    Thank You
    Sincerely,
    Aman Srivastava

We have found that the information bubbles that open up in the top right hand corner of pdf documents can consume a lot of CPU, when visible for a user on our RDS servers Acrobat Reader would consume anything between 14-25% of CPU resource. This turned out to be very easy to resolve - first you can simply close the info bubble as the user, this setting is then retained for the next time any pdf documents are open. However this was not a suitable fix for the several hundred users that we have regularly connected to our various RDS farms. Instead we added the following registry settings to each users profile via our logon scripts - these disable the info bubbles and therefore prevent the high CPU usage.
    KEY = HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\AVGeneral
    DWORD = bReaderShouldShowInfoBubble
    VALUE = 0
    DWORD = bReaderShowEPDFToolsPaneInfoBubble
    VALUE = 0
I hope that this information helps other users with similar High CPU issues when running Acrobat Reader.

  • Solaris 9 High Disk Usage

    Hi,
I have an unusual problem with Solaris 9 servers I am responsible for. Occasionally a server will suffer from very poor performance, characterized by disk throughput ramping up to 100%. I figured there must be a process responsible for hogging the disk, so I first tried shutting down as many processes as I could. The problem is that the servers are distributed around the world, and I need to be careful not to stop so many processes that the server becomes unavailable. This did not yield a solution, so I found some tools to list disk usage by process. I found that when the disk usage is at 100%, there was very little process disk activity, so it was not possible to identify a guilty process. Strangely, one of the partitions affected (according to iostat) is the backup partition. The only solution I have found so far is to do a reboot.
Has anyone seen this problem before?
    Thanks
    Nick

Issue fixed. Kernel memory consumption caused by too much outgoing TCP connection. See http://forum.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=26311&tstart=0

  • System (ntoskrnl.exe) high cpu usage in Windows 8.1

    Sir/Mam,
I'm having this issue since last week, when i checked it is the "system" (ntoskrnl.exe) file which is using upto 18-24% of my CPU and causing all other applications to stutter for a second (incluuding Media player, mouse pointer, everything).
By using a Process Explorer software i found out that it's related to these values running under that file:
    " ntoskrnl.exe!RtlSidHashLookup+0x1ffc  "
It slows down my PC for a second and it happens after every 5-6 seconds (approx.).
    Using Microsoft Windows 8.1
    Lenovo Z50-70
    Need help.

    Hi,
The WPA shows that it is WmiPrvSE.exe (WMI Provider Host)that occupies up to 20% CPU, and three threads are the causes, 8328\7988\8828. but hard to find deeper information from this, so please use process Explorer or process monitor to find more information
about WmiPrvSE.exe and the 3 threads, you can refer to this link

  • High disk usage on DB server

    Hi All,
I have 4 four disks connected to my db server and on disk2, I found very high usage (above 90%) every time. I have only one tablespace BME_DATA on this disk and it has only one datafile.
There are only few tables (less than 50) that are stored in this tablespace but most of them are very huge in size (~ 500MB), and yes most of them have high DML activity also.
I am planning to create another datafile for BME_DATA on DISK3 so that load can be balanced. Please suggest if there is any better way to do the same.
    Thanks for your interest.
    Bhupinder

    Hi Alan,
What version database? have you analyzed the tables
and indexes associated with the datafile on this
disk? Has this problem recently started?I am using Oracle 9.2.0, and all the table including indexes were analyzed today. Recently I have loaded 1G+ of data into multiple tables and yes out of those tables are only causing the problem.
I have only table datafile (BME_DATA_01.dbf) to Diks2, index datafile is located on Disk1.
Now shall I go and add one more data file to Disk3 or is there any memory changes I can do to reduce the bottleneck on disk2.
    Thanks again

  • Sppsvc.exe High cpu usage since 4/6/2015

sppsvc.exe using 60% to 80% of cpu since 4/6/2015 in Windows Server tech preview. Is this due to a update or the upcoming 4/15/2015 expiration date for build 9841? This has not been a problem up until now. Any ideas?

I've just tested it with the latest version of Firefox and the CPU usage is
rising in line with the number of IDX files.
Unfortunately I can't EASILY test the applet with IE6, I'm waiting for a
response from my partner to see if anyone uses IE6 with the applet.
    Thanks
