System failure after recent update.

Hello. I just ran pacman -Syu on one of my systems and now the console screen resolution is down to low (default linux not what Arch is normally set to) and the network won't come up.
journalctl -xe gives the error of
Job sys-subsystem-net-devices-enp0s4fu4.device/start failed with result 'timeout' <- an USB network card
Job sys-subsystem-net-devices-enp5s0.device/start timed out <- Internal eth0 card.

~ # reboot

Fairly I didn't set up anything in the tty, it's the same setting Arch boots from CD so I always thought it just takes it from default settings.
BTW I just found, that the pacman cache has two versions of the Linux kernel 3.18 and 3.19 but only one version of linux-api-headers which is the same sub as that of the working kernel: 3.18.
Could this cause the problem that there is no 3.19 kernel headers or are they not simultaneously updated with the kernel?
As for the bugtrack link you gave, I don't know if it's related. In the comments they say its possible to load the module but then after a short connection time it went down, however in my case it does not get loaded at all as I see in journalctl -b

  • [SOLVED] System breakage after recent update

    Hi.
After recent system updates with "pacman -Syu" various packages have broken.
For example chromium either crashes on start or does not load pages:

    Also kwrite crashes on start.
Also KDE plasma desktop does not start telling about KWin crashes.
Also Kile says "[PDFLaTeX] failed to start]" when I try to produce .pdf from .tex.

  • System crash after recent update

    Hi all,
As of yesterday, my laptop has started crashing after a little while open (sometimes right away, sometimes ten minutes in, sometimes right after bios). I believed it was to do with the recent alsa-utils update and I downgraded that package which helped for a little bit. When it updated again and the core dump from the previous update disappeared, I upgraded and the problem starting happening again. Then I downgraded and no change.
So I think it is not to do with alsa anymore...but I can find no information at all in dmesg or journalctl. There seem to be no errors, warnings whatsoever. I have tried chrooting in and looking at all the logs but to no avail.
The update that broke my system installed the following:
    alsa-lib alsa-utils gcc-libs gcc isl kmod libcdio-paranoia pyalpm namcap
I have since downgraded both isl and kmod and it looks my laptop is running okay so far. After this update I also updated the kernel, but running from the fallback initramfs did not change the issue so I don't think it was that either.
I have trawled the forums for recent problems with recent updates .ut did not find anything apart from the alsactl core dump.
Does anyone know if there are any problems with the above packages? Or if there are other important logs other than journactl, dmesg, and pacman.log I can try looking at to troubleshoot this? I apologise for not being able to provide much more information, as I said I can't seem to find anything out of the ordinary in the aforementioned logs.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Crash still occurs...now found this in dmesg

  • System failure after critical updates auto downloaded on HP-DV7 17.3" AMD Quad Core

After critical updates system auto reboot closed programs and went into reboot mode but system will not reboot and cannot run recovery successfully. Windows tries to load files and get to the start windows screen but will not complete. Not sure if it will bring me back to orig. format, was not able to find a restore point and do not have any reboot disks. Still under warranty but no list of available service people in area. Easy to buy hard to get service! UGH! HELP PLEASE. Thanks

    Hi:
Make your own windows 7 repair/reinstallation disk and use the repair option to see if you can get it fixed.
Use the repair with command prompt method and try the fixboot command.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392
    Here's how to make a W7 installation/repair disk.
I just copy and paste my standard instructions for using this disk to reinstall windows.
You don't need to enter the product key to repair windows, only to use this disk as a last resort to reinstall windows.
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • Ntlmaps not running after recent update. (FIXED)

FIXED - Ended up re-writing MAKEPKG, depends, modified patches file and new MD5 sums to build on Python 2.7.  Instructions below for anyone who needs them. Cheers - Arkay.
    Hi All,
I use ntlmaps in conjunction with corkscrew to create ssh tunnels out through my work proxy to my home network.  It's always worked perfectly fine until a recent pacman -Syu.
From looking into it as much as I can it appears that Python 3 has been pulled into the mix where ntlmaps appears only to work with python 2.
In the original effort to fix it I updated to the latest MAKEPKG in the AUR which also doesn't seem to work with either version of Python.
I've attempted to debug the issues in Python though my knowledge of the language is sorely lacking.
The initial error I get is:
    File "/usr/bin/ntlmaps", line 31
print 'NTLM authorization Proxy Server v%s' % conf['GENERAL']['VERSION']
    ^
    SyntaxError: invalid syntax
But the code block above appears ok to me.  On further investigation (running it line by line in interactive mode), it appeared to be the includes causing the issue at which point I found dos line endings on all the code in the site-python ntlmaps code.  After removing all of them and converting back to unix eol's (didn't seem to really make a difference), I still get the same syntax errors.  Further looking finds includes to libraries which possibly no longer exist or are depreciated in python 3. "threads" seems to be the main offender, according to the doco it is depreciated but should still work (tm).
I'm pretty much at a loss as to what to do next.  I've tried swapping to cntlm but for some reason our proxy won't allow the connections through the way ntlmaps does.
I also just tried to re-install it with aurget.  The makepkg worked but the install script failed with:
    Byte compiling python modules...
error: command failed to execute correctly
    Looking into that now too...
Any help would be much appreciated.  Perhaps someone else can attempt to install and run it on their system.
    Cheers,
    Arkay.
P.S.  My system is i686, recently updated.
P.P.S.  Apologies to the mods.  This should most likely be in the PKGBUILD forms... Please move and remove this P.P.S

Ok.  For some reason I haven't (yet) been able to get the PKGBUILD working with python 3.
I have however updated everything to work as expected with python 2.7 (specifically ntlmaps-0.9.9.0.1 under python2 2.7-2).
Here's the relevant bits for anyone who would like to build against 2.7 instead (if you have problems with 3).

Save each of the code blocks (cut/paste into an editor) with the filenames given into a directory.  Update/check the md5sums in the PKGBUILD for each (dunno how to upload files into a thread so you'll have to check the sums match after pasting/saving and I don't yet have AUR access).  Then run makepkg.  You should end up with a working ntlmaps for python2.7.
    Cheers,
    Arkay.

Try finding  MSVCR110.dll  file on internet and replace it in the path C:\Windows\system32\MSVCR110.dll
    hopefully it works...

  • HT2693 My UPAD lite does not start after recent update. I have lots of info in it. Can anybody help me to get it back. Can I get the update out somehow? Thanks

My UPAD lite does not start after recent update. I have lots of info in it. Can anybody help me to get it back? Can I somehow undo the update? Thanks

    "UPAD lite?"
I expect that you mean some version of iPad.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • [solved] sudo and yaourt problems after recent updates

After recent updates (past week) yaourt started giving me problems. When using yaourt it prompts me for sudo password but it does not seem to use my sudo configuration.
    I get this:
    [sudo] password for root:
    [sudo] password for root:
    Password:
    su: Authentication failure
    Password:
When entering mine or root's password I just get prompt again. The last password is for su, which when I enter root's works.
It seems sudo is not using /etc/sudoers configuration either, as I have things like insults enabled and it used to work previously.
    Any reason for this?
    sudo works fine otherwise.

After recent update to Mountain Lion, trash will not empty completely.  Always an item left in trash, and I get message that the "item is in use." Right now, using app Trash it! to get rid of that left behind item.

Try rebuilding Trash and see if that sorts it...
Launch Terminal and copy & paste these commands:
Go to /Applications /Utilities/Terminal and launch it.
At the prompt, copy and paste this command
    sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash
    Press Return.
You will be asked to enter your admin password. It will be invisible.
    Enter it and press Return.
Log out and back in or restart.

  • Internal camera failure after software updates...first skype couldn't......

    Hello!
I am having internal camera failure after software updates...first skype couldn't find the camera, and now photo booth also says camera is not connected. Its a brand new MacBook Pro which has been working fine for a month, but after a software update (the blinking message said i had 13 new things to update...you know what I'm talking about right?) all of a sudden Skype couldnt find a camera, so i went to the skype community and tried some things (like trashing skype) but now photo booth says no camera detected, which is weird cause the camera is built into the computer..
    Please help!
    Thanks
    O

    First, reset the SMC:

If that doesn't help, then take it to an Apple Store for examination.

  • IPhon 4: After recently updating to version 7.1.2, all my past calendar entries disappeared and I cannot add new entries.

After recently updating to 7.1.2, all of my past calendar entries for 22014 disappeared and I cannot add new entries??

What account were you using to sync your Calendar?  Make sure that account is added to the device, and make sure that Calendars is turned on for that account.
Then, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and make sure that under the Calendar section that 'Sync' is set to 'All Events'.
Then go to the Calendar app, go to Calendars, and make sure that you have that account enabled.
Then, close out all the running apps on your device, and restart it.
Open up your Calendar app.  Are your entries back?
