System image won't finish on HPE-519c (W7, 64-bit)

I'm having an issue where system image runs until about 90% and then fails - the error message says device not ready, error 0x80070015. How do I correct this? The system image worked fine the last time I tried, about a week ago.

Hi,
If you are creating a backup image using the W7 image program, then what destination media type are you using and what is the destination device type and model?

  • Snow Leopard (10.6.8) Web Browser, App Store, iTunes Store image won't finish loading.

    Hello,
I've recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard by clean installing. Once I upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) everything seemed to work perfectly except for the new keyboard that I purchased (requires upgrade to 10.6.8). So as I upgraded to 10.6.8 by "Software Update…".
Once the update was completed and the machine restarted I've noticed when I opened opened couple of common sites in Safari (such as: Flickr, YouTube, and Amazon) and some of the images won't finish loading with a "?" in the middle where the image would be and browser assumes that the site was done loading. First I thought this was a refresh problem so I hit refresh on the browser but nothing really happened. I thought this was strange so I decided to download Google Chrome and Firefox to try it out as well. Same situation as well… Then I opened  the App Store and iTunes Store and the same things happened there as well. I'm assuming that all these images exists online so anything that access the web to load images will just crap out. One odd thing is that this problem don't seem to happen on any of the sites on Apple when I view it in the web browsers.
I couldn't figure out the reason so I decided to reinstall Snow Leopard (10.6.3) again by cleaning out the hard drives as before. Once it finished installing I opened up iTunes Store and Safari and the images loads fine. So went ahead (crossing my fingers) to "Software Updates…" to 10.6.8 and the the problem happened again.
I naively went ahead and tried to clean installing it again, thinking "Third time is the charm!" But same situation once I upgrade to 10.6.8. After the third time I let the browser sit there after it didn't load those images. I waited about five minutes and hit refresh and the images loaded. This happened the same with App Store and iTunes Store images as well. This is very odd because my interment connection hasn't been a changed before I upgraded to 10.6.8. Seems like browsers just cuts off the loading time of the whatever that's lagging instead on that site.
Is there a solution in the preferences for this or is this some kind of a bug that I'm having with my OS disc or network card? I don't think this has nothing to do with my modem or my interment service because it was working fine before I upgraded to 10.6.8.

I get that same problem too-you could try checking your network settings, release and renew your IP address, see if that helps. There is a tweaking menu you can get in Firefox that can help somewhat (google Firefox tweaks) but you'd have to raise the hood in FF and tinker a bit, but it does help. How much RAM do you have on your Mac Pro?, also update your Java and shockwave
sorry I can't be of more help

  • System Image Utility - Takes FOREVER

13 hours ago, I asked System Image Utility 10.5 to create a NetInstall image of a 75GB Leopard partition. It's only 40% done. It's definately working on it (ie the percentages increase) but this seems ridiculous.
Source System: iMac 20" Intel Core Duo 2. In Target Disk Mode connected to a MacBook Pro running leopard client with Server Tools downloaded from Apple's site.
    Both systems, Leopard retail.
Image is being saved to an attached USB drive (attached to the Macbook Pro).
Any ideas why this is so slow?
    Thanks
    Woody

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have the same problem as you.

  • Won't finish loading to net install image.

I thought I was getting the hang of this but now I am getting a bit frustrated. I took a machine out of one of our labs. I fired it up in target disk mode and plugged it into the xserve. I then used the system image utility to to create a netinstall image from the machine. The image process took about an hour. I then set the image as active under the server admin - netboot. The problem is that my machines won't load to the image. I tried 2 machines. A G5 of a different generation and then the G5 I used to create the image to to be sure it wasn't a problem with the machines being different.
I can select the volume either by holding the option key and boot-up or by going in to the startup disk and selecting it that way. The machine selects the image and begins to boot to it but it just sits on the white screen with the apple logo and the little spinning activity icon. I have let it sit here for about 30 mins so I could be sure it wasn't going to do anything else.
Can anyone give me any ideas or point me in a direction where I should start looking to get this problem resolved?

    Try this
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5980211
Its a missing /usr/lib/libbz2.1.0.3.dylib file in the image.
As the discussion says you will have to copy that file from your server (PPC server (intel server if its an intel image)) to the same place in the image.
    It works!!
Jane (taking the glory for someone else's hard work)
(If you have a version of the server earlier than 10.4.11 Its a missing CordVideo Framework folder-if the above doesn't work I'll try and find that reference-again someone else found the fix)

  • USB recovery disk won't restore System Image - U410 internal harddrives don't load? Error 0x80042414

Hello all. My name's Richard and I have a problem.
My U410 was stolen (bastards!) on Christmas Eve (double bastards!) but I had an old System Image saved on an external hard drive. So I bought exactly the same laptop second-hand intending to restore the image.
However, when I try to restore it via Control Panel, after the restart the computer tells me I have to do the restore process from a Windows System Repair disc instead, because it needs to reformat the drive that the Restore Environment is running from. Obviously, the U410 doesn't have a CD drive, so I made a Windows 7 64 bit USB restore drive, and moved the USB drive up in my boot list so I can boot from it.
This lets me get to the stage of selecting my system image from the external hard drive. The restore process starts for three seconds, then I get error 0x80042414: the system cannot find the drives onto which the image should be copied.
I've done some digging around and used diskpart to discover that the two internal hard drives aren't loading / aren't visible when I boot from the USB. When I run diskpart from windows I have four disks: the USB, the external hard drive, an 8GB one which I guess is the SSD and the 698GB HDD. When I navigate to the command promt in the Recovery Environment diskpart only lists the USB and the external hard drive.
So I'm thinking that the internal drives aren't loading up for some reason when I boot from the USB. Is there any way round this? I've tried the 'load drivers' function in the Recovery Environment but even when i save all drivers listed for the internal hard drives onto the boot USB key, then navigate to them and try to load them, each one just returns "the selected file contains nothing about your hardware".
I'd be so grateful for any help. I was so sad when my laptop was stolen, so happy when I discovered the system image, so sad when I found out I needed exactly the same computer, so happy when I found one online, and now.... i'm emotionally exhausted.
    Thanks guys,
    Richard

    Hi Richard,
I'm sorry you had to go through some pretty emotional trauma with your U410 getting stolen and all. However, I do hope you are back on track now.
I haven't been as unfortunate as you. However, I need to restore Win 7 on my U410. I have with me the recovery disks purchased from Lenovo. My question is, were you able to get the image onto a USB disk to perform the restoration? If so, could you point me to some instructions?
Seriously, Lenovo ships laptop specific recovery images on optical disks for their laptops that do not have optical drives. Makes no sense to me. It's time they sell recovery images on USB drives.

  • System Image Utility always fails, why?

    Hi everyone,
on my clean and fresh install of 10.7.4 Server the System Image Utility always fails to create an image. I want to create a NetInstall image and have put the OS X Lion Installer in /Applications. I can select it in SIU and choose to create a NetInstall image. It asks for the admin pw and always presents an error at the very end: Image creation failed. An unknown error has occured.
If I select to create a NetBoot image instead it fails directly after clicking on the Create button with this slightly different message: Image creation failed. An error has occured. At least it’s no unknown error…
Any ideas what might be causing this? I have succesfully created NetInstall images with 10.6 Server and 10.8 Server, but 10.7 Server somehow won’t play nice.
    Thanks
    Björn

    Hi Brian,
I first deleted the Installer and redownloaded it from the App Store, just to make sure there was no problem with it. Even though I now have the 10.7.4 Installer (had 10.7.0 before) nothing has changed. I then went on to set the log level as suggested. I now get different errors based on the chosen log level.
    Log level set to debug:
    Image creation failed.
*** -[__NSArrayM insertObject:atIndex:]: object cannot be nil
    Log level set to verbose:
    Image creation failed.
    An unknown error has occurred.
I did not see anything helpful in the logs unfortunately. The only noticeable thing mentioned was: Failed to create image from installer media.
Any additional ideas? I will attach both logs here, just in case.

  • System Deployment with 10.5 Server System Image Utility

I am trying to image a classroom lab of iMacs and I'm getting nowhere mighty fast.
I have created the 10.5 client image on a test machine and had it placed on test for students and faculty. After the image was tested for stability I was ready to create the image for deployment. In the past I had used Bombich's NetRestore to deploy images but have found it to be incompatible with 10.5, as it will not resolve the Leopard ByHost file problem correctly. While I can create a Net Install image using the 10.5 System Image Utility I can't determine how to deploy it with multicast ASR. As least from what things appear, the Net Install will run as a unicast and if I try to run it on a number of machines it will bog down the network so severely that it will be impossible to deploy the image - at least this is my understanding.
The last time I had assistance from our regional Apple System Engineer he informed me of an application call Proton Pack, but I can neither get the application to recognize the image nor do I understand how the main issue, the ByHost file, will be corrected without any sort of post-install action taking place since as far as I know mASR on the client only "grabs" the image and doesn't to anything more. I had emailed our System Engineer twice and have yet to hear from him. I can't let this go much longer.
The frustration is mounting as those above me want these machines deployed and there always seems to be problems with this. There are great and robust solutions in the Windows world, how come there isn't anything as simple and elegant as the likes of Ghost? At this point I'm about at my wit's end and find myself cursing the very platform that I had been championing for more than 24 years.

I'm not ranting after the folks here, I am attempting to make a point and my point is that the tools available are inadequate for the purpose. Do you really think a company should hinge a deployment strategy on tools either developed as "shareware/freeware" or a feature set that claims it works but doesn't?
    Jeff Kelleher wrote:
Again, let me state that I've been frustrated by OS X Server. I applaud you for speaking directly to Apple for solutions. Ranting to people who try to offer solutions won't help.
Sorry to vent, but I have just grown tired of the excuses. Even my sales rep is quick to try to point the finger elsewhere. I have been exposed to for the shortcoming of a consumer platform that is suppose to be targeted toward K-12 and businesses. If Apple is serious in being in the enterprise markets they need to have a decent, reliable tool, be it something from them or another vendor. Ghost for the Mac is a no-brainer, as I'm sure I'm not the only one who has wasted time with the pitfalls of Mac deployment. I know I can't be the only one who is frustrated by the less than optimal methodology to rolling out Macs in this manner.

I'm not ranting after the folks here, I am attempting to make a point. My point is that the tools given aren't worth beans. I had been a champion of Apple since 1980 and a certified tech since 1981 (starting with the Apple II platform) and while many things have improved dramatically through the years this is one area that has lagged behind for some time.
    Jeff Kelleher wrote:
Finally, deploying 30 Macs is, like it or not, a small venture. 100's or 1000's is a lot.
Sure, 30 may be small, but how likely am I to deploy a district's worth of these machines if the tools available make deploying Wondows machines such a breeze by comparison? I think somebody's cutting their own throat and it's not Mr. Gates.
    foilpan wrote:
it's possible that your energy could be better spent solving the issue and moving on rather than blaming apple for not doing what you want out of the box. if your job is to deploy 30 macs, just do it however possible and spend time later to refine the process. you can easily finish that job in a day (or way less) with proper prep.
This is a reoccurring scenario with Mac deployments which is getting old and tired. I'm up to the point to let these machines sit in the boxes since my time could be better used to support PCs.
Sadly it seems most people are missing the point that the tools that are suppose to make this work, don't. If you have the patience to work around these shortcoming, that's good. If you have the knowledge of being able to script your way around the areas where the tools promise something but don't carry through, you score more points. I, for one, don't have the luxury of time on my side, being dealt a multitude of district responsibilities that include areas besides PC and Mac support.

another option is to hire apple or an outside consultant who may be able to help if you don't have the scripting experience in house to do what you need.
That's a great idea. Unfortunately with the state of school budgets it's quite unlikely this will happen in the near future.

  • System Image Restore Fails "No disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found"

    Greetings
                                        - Our critical server image backup Fails on one
    server -
Two 2008 R2 servers. Both do a nightly "Windows Server Backup" of Bare Metal Recovery, System State, C:, System Reserved partition, to another storage hard drive on the same machine as the source. Active Directory is on the C: The much larger D: data
partition on each source hard drive is not included.
Test recovery by disconnecting 500G System drive, booting from 2008R2 Install DVD, recovering to a new 500G SATA hard drive.
    Server A good.
Server B fails. It finds the backed-up image, & then we can select the date we want. As soon as the image restore is beginning and the timeline appears, it bombs with "The system image restore failed. No disk that can be used for recovering the system
disk can be found." There is a wordy Details message but none of it seems relevant (we are not using USB etc).
At some point after this, in one (or two?) of the scenarios below, (I forget exactly where) we also got :
"The system image restore failed. (0x80042403)"
The destination drive is Not "Excluded".
Used   diskpart clean   to remove volumes from destination drive. Recovery still errored.
Tried a second restore-to drive, same make/model Seagate ST3500418AS, fails.
Tried the earliest dated B image rather than the most recent, fail.
The Server B backups show as "Success" each night.
Copied image from B to the same storage drive on A where the A backup image is kept, and used the A hardware to attempt restore. Now only the latest backup date is available (as would occur normally if we had originally saved the backup to a network location).
Restore still fails.         It looks like its to do with the image rather than with the hardware.
Tried unticking "automatically check and update disk error info", still fail.
    Server A  SRP 100MB  C: 50.6GB on Seagate ST3500418AS 465.76GB  Microsoft driver 6.1.7600.16385   write cache off
    Server B  SRP 100MB  C: 102GB  on Seagate ST3500418AS 465.76GB  Microsoft driver 6.1.7600.16385   write cache off
Restore-to hard drive is also Seagate ST3500418AS.
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7repair/thread/e855ee43-186d-4200-a032-23d214d3d524      Some people report success after diskpart clean, but not us.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsbackup/thread/31595afd-396f-4084-b5fc-f80b6f40dbeb
"If your destination disk has a lower capacity than the source disk, you need to go into the disk manager and shrink each partition on the source disk before restoring."  Doesnt apply here.
    http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=439&Itemid=38&limit=1&limitstart=4
for 0x80042403 says "The solution is really quite simple: the destination drive is of a lower capacity than the image's source drive." I cant see that here.
    Thank you so much.

    Hello,
    1. While recovering the OS to the new Hard disk, please don't keep the original boot disk attached to the System. There is a Disk signature for each hard disk. The signature will collide if the original boot disk signature is assigned to the new disk.
You may attach the older disk after recovering the OS. If you want to recover data to the older disk then they should be attached as they were during backup.
    2. Make sure that the new boot disk is attached as the First Boot disk in hardware (IDE/SATA port 0/master) and is the first disk in boot order priority.
    3. In Windows Recovery Env (WinRE) check the Boot disk using: Cmd prompt -> Diskpart.exe -> Select Disk = System. This will show the disk where OS restore will be attempted. If the disk is different than the intended 2 TB disk then swap the disks in
    correct order in the hardware.
    4. Please make sure that the OS is always recovered to the System disk. (Due to an issue: BMR might recover the OS to some other disk if System disk is small in size. Here the OS won't boot. If you belive this is the case, then you should attach the
bigger sized disk as System disk and/or exclude other disks from recovery). Disk exclusion is provided in System Image Restore/Complete PC Restore UI/cmdline.
    5. Make sure that Number and Size of disks during restore match the backup config. Apart from boot volumes, some other volumes are also considered critical if there are services/roles installed on them. These disks will be marked critical for recovery and
should be present with minimum size requirement.
    6. Some other requirements are discussed in following newsgroup threads:

  • [Forum FAQ] Schedule multiple versions of System Image Backup in Windows 8.1

As we known that there is no UI for user to configure Image backup in Windows 8.1, this is a guide for your to schedule multiple versions of System Image Backup.
Step 1: Create a task to schedule an image backup with following command:
    SCHTASKS /Create /SC WEEKLY /D MON /TN WeeklyFullBackup /RL HIGHEST /ST 13:00 /TR “wbAdmin Start Backup -backupTarget:F: -include:C: -allCritical -quiet”
Step 2: Schedule a robocopy to backup the saved image with BAT file:
Please create a new folder (in this example, the new folder is e:\test2) to save your multiple copies of image backup:
Write following batch file to copy backup and rename with backup date:
    *****************BAT********************
    @echo off
    robocopy e:\test1\ e:\test2\ test.wim
    ren e:\test2\test.wim  test_%date:~10,4%%date:~7,2%%date:~4,2%_%time:~0,2%%time:~3,2%.wim
NOTE: e:\test2 is my location to save multiple copies of image backup; e:\test1 is the location I create the system image backup.
This BAT can also help to rename the copy of image backup with date and time like below:
      3.  Set up a basic task in Task schedule:
Note: please make sure the time you configured follows the time you set for image backup in Step 1.
Action -> Create basic task (Name you task) -> Trigger (Set how often this task should be run) -> Action (Start a program) -> Under Program/script, point to your bat file you create in Step 2.b -> Finish
At the end, you can know more about SCHTASKS and Robocopy via following links:

  • System image utility fails "Unknown error has occurred"

    Hi,
I can create disk images from 10.8.3 clients but when i'm putting them through system utility on the 10.8 server it fails after hours of running.
The log is set to debug and shows the image creates upto 83% then jumps to 100% and later shows unknown errors and failed to create image from restore souce.
I've created several disk images and saved them to different locations on the server as the source and final image.
Below i've put in the debug log. Someone please help!!

I am seeing a very similar output trying to make a netrestore image of a 10.8.4 Macbook Air on a 10.8.4 Mac Mini running OSX Server.  Gets to 84% and then shows the -1 progress and then just hangs until I cancel it (I haven't tried leaving it over night but left it that way for hours).
Did you ever figure out what was going on or have a workaround to create an image?
    Thanks!

  • System Image Backup Failed During Backup

I have a 2 year old HP pavilion g series notebook.  I was doing a system image backup onto dvd+r disks. It was nearly finished when on disk #99 I got this message "The Backup Failed. The system cannot find the path specified (0x80070003)
My computer is out of warranty and I'm out $60 in disks if they can't be used.  I need to know it there is a way to salvage what I saved and restart Image backup from where it left off?

    Hi CherylLyme,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using the forum, it is a great place to find answers.
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that you were doing an image backup and when it was nearly finished you received  the error (0x80070003).  Here is a link to a Microsoft answer to assist you. Windows backup error 0x80070003 ( Answered by Vinod N)
I am unsure if you would be able to start again and pick up on disk 99, as once you have repaired it, it will have changed from when you first ran the backup.  The disk you used were not read, writeable, so you would not be able to reuse them.  You may find that an external drive would be a more economical way to do your backups. The data would be in one place and easier to store.  If you decide to use a USB stick it must not be more then 32GB and will not say Windows 8 on it.
You can most likely purchase an External drive for about the cost of replacing the disks.  Here is a link to HP Shopping External storage , but you can purchase one at many places, computer shops, Staples,Walmart, and Office Depot are just a few.  I hope this helps.

  • System image restore new hard drive

Hard drive failed. Brought new one and are trying to do a system image restore. Boot using Win 7 repair disk. Start image recovery. Runs for a min or two and give me the following error.
Windows back up failed to extend or mount the file system on the recovered volume. (0x80780124) , I don't have win 7 disk as it did not come with the computer, I did create  a repair disk and several system images as back up but am now stuck.

I feel your pain, I went through several installs of a Samsung SSD. First SSD died within several months, the second one  did too (refurbished btw, Samsung won't give ya a new one) and had to do it again. Myself I keep debating whether to worry over the data I have and just do a complete clean install each time. This last go round I did a 'clone' of the HP provided OS with all the bloatware and junk on it and since have found that there is a way to do a windows only install using ABR(autobackupand restore)utility that'll record all your proprietery data like COA key so when you do an install you won't have to keep verifying it every 90 days...BTDT. Found that one on this forum as a good way to do an OS install and keep the original code applied to the new install.
All the really important (to me) stuff I keep on an external hdd or big thumb drive, speaking of which theres a 64 gb 3.0 usb on Amazon for under 30 bucks including shipping, ya can't beat that. All my games and stuff I have on seperate HDDs with none of that RAID business.
Found out the hard way in order to use the HP recovery discs the pc has to be put back in its original form. I had put in another drive (solid state) and a better graphics card and better RAM sticks only to find that I had to go back and put all that out of the box stuff back in to get the discs to work....they were giving me red alerts in Command Prompts or CMD.  I had never seen Red CMD it was one of those **bleep** moments,  spending half a day googling led to to someone who had been there and done that (btdt) HP won't let you put their OS on another Hard Drive which I think is stupid..the disc knows if the drive is different therefore the bright red CMD window that blinks in your face and doesn't have the courtesy to tell you to change equipment.Oh well time to quit blathering.

  • System Image - A665-S6094

    Hi.
I have satellite A665-S6094 (US Version). I created system image and used it before.
After that HDD broken and changed.
But service installed windows7 Turkish version. But my original windows7 is US.
Now when i want to use my system image, it doesnt work.
But as i said before, i use my system image on my old hdd. So dvd has not error.
What can i do now, how to load my system image to new hdd?

Sorry, your image won't work even if they had installed usa version it would not work! cause when you create a image in the background it puts exclussive system rights codes to the image [ like a passcode ] and only the origanator windows can access the image! Microsoft done this on purpose to hold their rights, so users could not replicate to other systems!
