System.out Problem in Java Plug-in
I have the following problem, anyone can help me?
I have an application( Frame ) needed to be embedded in applet. The applecation has a lot of information output to console( by System.out ). When I embeded it into applet, these information will be output to Java Plug-in Console. In the beginning, there is no problem. But when the applet runs enough time, the output will be more and more, and the speed of the applet( in fact, the browser ) runs slower and slower.
I don't want to modify my application at all( it is impossible ). I wonder there is any good suggestion to this problem, I guess, maybe there is an interface to make the Java Plug-in clear its console buffer periodically.
Thanks in advance.
There is a good reason for this.... the console in the java plug-in is essentially a JTextArea... and continually adding text to it via System.out.println or the like will make it slower the longer it runs..... periodically clearing the console would be the only solution without modifying the code......
If you still need all that information you could redirect System.out to your own PrintStream and then instead of writing to the console little by little, you could save the original System.out (using something like:
PrintStream origSysOut=System.out;
) and then later on in your app reset System.out=myPrintStream or something.... then just write the myPrintStream data to origSysOut every now and then or something....
if you want a better example of this I've got a log facility class that I built based on this principal... it's also and easy way to capture stack traces into log files... and since you're just redirecting System.out or err it's easy to turn off the log file to use for debugging.... ok that's enough of a rant :)

Can System property set in Java Plug-in?
Hello gurus,
In desktop app, we could set certain system properties for example
System.setProperty( "sun.java2d.translaccel", "true" );
I am trying to develop simple game in applet.
But calling this method requires the applet to signed, which is not my option.
Is there a way i can set this property in the Java Plug-in Run-Time-Parameter field?
Thanks in advance.nope, not to my knowledge.
Until recently, you couldn't even do it at the commandline with webstart apps!
(though you could ofcourse still use System.setProperty()) -

In my other installations of netbeans they went to a window in the IDE but I can't find them with JSC 2.you can use System.out.println("") to write something in output (which in web applications it is web application log file)
also in creator you can use log("") to write something in output which again is the log file.
you can view the log file by right click on server / view log file -
Hi,
I have a quite new mac book air.
I urgently need Java 7 plug in to run properly, but unfortunately it is not working. I have tried all proposals from Java homage. Nothing helped. I found an article, that Apple has blocked Java Plugin due to security reasons. But I did not really see any solution. It is no option to use a lower Java version, as the system I need to use requires the new Java version. Any good advice available? Thanks in advance for trying to help me!Java homepage offers the option to check, if Java it is installed properly on the computer. If I run this tool it says, that it cannot check, if or which version I have installed.

What is the security problem with Java plug ins and do I need to disable Java plug ins on my Mac computers?
The newly discovered zero-day flaw in Java 7 is so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned users to disable or uninstall it, and Apple has disabled the Java 7 plugin on Macs through its OS X anti-malware system, in order to protect users from a potentially serious security issue.
You should disable Java (if not already done) until either the US Department of Homeland Security, or Oracle, declare it safe and Apple restore the facility. Javascript should not be disabled (it has nothing to do with Java).
However, if you need the Jave 6 JRE and plug-in, MadMAC0 has posted at
https://discussions.apple.com/message/20107182?ac_cid=tw123456#20107182
Apple has also posted (Oct 22/12) the approved solution for restoring the Java 6 plug-in:
Java for OS X 2012-006: How to re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 applet plug-in and Web Start functionality. -
System.out and native stdout after freopen
Hi.
I have a native application with an embedded JVM using JNI. In normal operation the native code does an freopen on stdout (before creation of the JVM). In this scenario System.out from the Java code is invisible.
How can the System.out be made to follow the native stdout?
JDK1.3 on Win32.
Many thanks,
PeteActually my problem went away when I rebuilt the main native app WITHOUT debug.
Only seems to happen if the .exe for the main native app is linked with debug options (I'm using MSVC).
This is easily reproducible, but now I know it won't affect final customers of my product I'm moving on and not spending any more time on it.

Java plug-in. Java 1.4 or Jinitiator?
My office has had numerous issues with Java while running Discoverer over the years. I noticed, in the Enterprise Manager console, that I have 2 choices for the Java plug-in. Sun Java plug-in (1.4) (what we use now) and Oracle Jinitiator. Given the issues we have had with Java I am tempted to try Jinitiator. Does anyone know the risks/drawbacks to trying Jinitiator? I tried googling exactly what Jinitiator does (compared to just Java), but the results were not very helpful. There must be a reason why there is an option to use one or the other, but I'm uncertain of Jinitiator's purpose (and how it will affect my users' Discoverer experience).
Thanks!Hi,
Oracle Jinitiator is based on JDK 1.3 (now long deprecated). It was an "enhanced" JRE to work with some specific features and coding with E-Business Suite forms. Discoverer also used it so that one could avoid JRE conflicts when using both E-BS Forms and the Discoverer Plus applet.
I'm not sure if you are using an E-Business Suite shop or nor.
The following documents might help you out:
Recommended Client Java Plug-in (JVM/JRE) For Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2) (Doc ID 465234.1)

http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2009/06/roundup_oracle_jinitiator_13_desupported_in_july_2.html
I would recommend sticking with Java and addressing any issues you have with Oracle.
Other comments welcomed.

Problem with java stored procs.
Is there a restriction on accessing XML documents from Java stored procs?
I have a Java program to parse XML document and return a string. If I run this program as a stand alone, the program runs fine.
I loaded the oracle xmlparser.jar into ORACLE8i db sucessfully (used -resolve option). Then I loaded my .class file with -verbose and -resolve option and I did not get any erros. I created function which return string. When I ran the function, I did not get any value bacmk.
Can I use System.out.println in java programs in ORACLE8i. If I can where can I see the output when the program runs? I not waht other mehtods I can use to debug the program running in ORACLE8i JVM.
Thank YouHello again,
I read the documentation of 9i and found some hints about different TCP/IP socket handling of 9i and a standard JVM.
There are some parts that give hints but I couldn't find a sample code to show how to handle the differences.
Could anyone tell me how to handle the differences or give some links to sample code?

Sure, it's been in every newspaper and network TV news. Java browser plugins below v1.7.10.19 are vulnerable to exploitation and have been disabled by Apple, Firefox & Chrome. You either need to update your installation to Oracle's Java 7 update 11 or do without. -
Problem Launching Java Applet with Plug-in: Version 1.4.2_01
Hello out there:
I recently installed j2re-1.4.2_01 on my home computer but have been unable to access Web sites emmploying JAva applets. The following is an email exchange with Jeff Hall of Lowell Observatory, manager of an educational site hosted by Lowell, trying to resolve my problem. The messages are better understood if read in reverse order.
I'm hoping that someone will recognize the source of my problem and can recommmend a solution. I would appreciate any help offered.

Hi Jeff:
Well, I guess the problem lies with me somewhere. Here's my answer/status to your questions/suggestions:
1) I'm using MS Windows Me version 4.90.3000
2) I do have the directory C:\Windows\.jpi_cache\jar\, but the only thing in it is an empty folder labeled "1.0". The file LP.jar does not exist anywhere on my hard drive.
3) I tried several game sites that utilized Java applets and got the same results: the Java cup in the upper left corner followed a few seconds later by the red "X". So, evidently the problem is somewhere on my end.
I'm going to post our email exchanges in a Java Users Forum managed by Sun to see if anyone out there can solve my problem. However, if you have any more suggestions, I'll be glad to try them.
Thanks for the help.

Mike,
Rats! What version of Windows are you using? It's a little strange to
see the user directory set to C:\Windows; if you're using XP, I'd expect
it to be something like C:\Documents and Settings\Mike Coucke. In any
event, the output that is of concern is these two lines:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: LPRemote.class
Caused by: java.net.UnknownHostException: proxy
It looks like your browser is not finding our server's IP when it comes
time to download the necessary Java code.
LPRemote.class is the fundamental code that runs LOPARC, and your
browser should be downloading it automatically when you click connect.
LPRemote.class is stored along with a bunch of other classes in a file
called "LP.jar" that you download from our server. So, if you go to C:
in Windows Explorer and do a file search for LP.jar, you should find it.
On my machine, it's stored in a directory called ".jpi_cache\jar\" in my
user home directory. Let me know if you have this file, or the
jpi-cache directory.
One other thing you might try is going to a different site that you know
uses Java applets -- I think some of the online game rooms at Yahoo use
Java. See if other sites that use Java load correctly. Then we'll know
if it's our server specifically, or a more general problem on your end.

Hello Jeff:
I still have the Java "blues". I followed your instructions, but am still unable to launch a LOPARC session. After an initial failure, I uninstalled all three Java versions I had (1.4.0, 1.4.1, 1.4.2), then reinstalled 1.4.2_01 from the Sun website.
Now, when I try to launch LOPARC, I initially get a blank window with the Java cup in the upper left corner. After about 20 seconds, the cup changes to a red "X". During those 20 seconds, the following appear in the IE message bar at the bottom of the window: "Applet LPRemote notinited" (their spelling) which changes to "Loading Java Applet Failed..." when the red "X" appears.

Subject: RE: Registration with Lowell Education Online
Hi Mike,
Try it now. I think this problem has arisen because Sun just
released a new version of the Plug-in (1.4.2), and when we released the
public beta of LOPARC, only one relevant version (1.4.0) was available
and the LOPARC code was written to look for that by default. I have
just recoded the relevant routines so they should now cause your browser
to simply pick up the latest 1.4 version of the Plug-in you have
installed, whatever it is. I "broke" Java on my machine to replicate
your problem, and the code I inserted today did fix it. Hopefully it
will have the same effect for you. I am running IE 6 and plugin
1.4.2_01 (as accessed via Tools->Sun Java Console).
One broader problem: some (non-LOPARC-specific) users on the Sun
forums have reported the "JRE collision" you are seeing when multiple
versions of the Plug-in are installed on the same machine. So if the
fix I made to our code doesn't work, one option would be to uninstall
all Java components from your computer and do a fresh install of the
latest runtime environment.
Let me know how/if this works. Thanks for the feedback and for your
patience.
Best regards,
Jeff Hall

This site gives you access to research-grade equipment including a 16"
telescope, CCD detector, and image processing software. Our online
archive of data is now available 24/7. The telescope will be opening to
our onsite users in May, and on select nights to the Internet at large
in June.
We have designed this site so you don't need a huge monitor or a
supercomputer to use it. All pages are viewable on screens running at
800x600 resolution or higher. To use LOPARC, you'll need a Java-enabled
browser with the Java 1.4 plug-in installed. If you don't have the
plug-in, you'll be prompted to download it the first time you attempt to
connect. This is an admittedly large (9 MB) but one-time-only download.
This site works correctly under Internet Explorer version 5 or higher.
If you use Netscape, you must be running version 6 or higher, and
display or applet behavior anomalies may occur.
If at any time you can't connect to our server, simply try again later.
We do experience several power outages each year, particularly during
Flagstaff's summer thunderstorm season. Our server is fully protected
and backed up, and can be quickly brought back on line, but any active
user sessions will be lost. Thanks for your patience during these
inevitable downtimes.
Your questions, comments, suggestions, and bug reports about this site
are always welcome. On behalf of the LOPARC development team, thanks
for signing up!

Flagstaff, ArizonaHi Mike,
I see this in your logs:
Java(TM) Plug-in: Version 1.4.2_01
Using JRE version 1.4.2_01 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
User home directory = C:\WINDOWS
Proxy Configuration: Manual Configuration
Proxy: http=proxy,https=proxy,ftp=proxy,gopher=proxy
Proxy Overrides:
I just helped my Dad set up his computer with a new
cable modem, and had the situation where we couldn't
access any secure Web sites. The cable folks had us
disable the proxy. It looks like the error message is
saying it can't find your proxy server, and the logs
you posted say that you've decided to configure your
proxy manually, rather than using the settings from
IE (which is how mine is set up in the plugin
control panel.)
Could that be the problem?
