System process running queries every 25 seconds against SQL 2012 Developer Edition
While debugging a long running stored procedure I wanted to include SP:stmtStarting and SP:stmtCompleted.
I noticed that every 25 seconds I was getting multiple queries against every database on my local server like:
select table_id, item_guid, oplsn_fseqno, oplsn_bOffset, oplsn_slotid
from [dbname].[sys].[filetable_updates_random_number] with (readpast) order by table_id
From different sid's each time.
While searching I saw that sometimes this may had to do with always on availability or filestream support but this is not my case since I don't use any of these features. This is a single instance installation.
The following queries return no rows.
SELECT * FROM sys.filetables;
GO
SELECT * FROM sys.tables WHERE is_filetable = 1;
GO
@@version returns:
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3401.0 (X64)
Jan 9 2014 13:22:15
Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation
Developer Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.2 <X64> (Build 9200: )
This may be useful but I also have SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition installed but also without always on availability / filestream enabled.
Not yet, believe it or not, I've been working with them for nearly a month to try to figure this out. Basically, what we found with our servers is that it's fine until it hits max memory or close to it. When it hits max memory there
should be the memory cleanup operations that occur, and when they start it just can't clean up the memory. The memory cleanup operations just keep getting ran over and over which causes the high CPU to sit there even when users aren't on the system.
Eventually performance degrades and then eventually the SQL Server service runs out of available memory and the service restarts / crashes. We (Microsoft) thinks they narrowed it down to 1 thing which is that it's a UserStore_SchemaMgr clerk
which continues to grow and never shrinks.
Here are a few things to try first:
1) Make sure your databases are corruption free (do a DBCC CHECKDB) on all databases and make sure there is no corruption. If there is then repair it and reboot the server.
2) Install this hotfix (I'm doing this tonight, so I don't know if this fixes it yet, I have to do this off hours)
http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2904100
3) If no corruption exists from #1, run this: DBCC MEMORYSTATUS. (Change the query type to have the results output as text from the top toolbar) Then do Edit, Find and search for UserStore_SchemaMgr.
It's measured in KB, so you have to divide that number by 1024 for MB and 1024/1024 for GB. In our case we have it going into the GB's. I have a Windows 2008 R2 SQL Server that this runs at about 8 MB. On our 2012 server it's running at
15 GB.
This is what we're trying to work on now. If you don't mind, let me know what you find, because I've been spending a ton of time on this with them and I think it's a bug, however we are having a tough time finding it.
Thanks.

Lync Server Mirror using SQL 2012 Developer Edition in Test Environment
I'm setting up a Lync Enterprise Frontend Pool in a Dev/Test environment using two SQL 2012 SP2 Developer Edition Servers. When I try and publish the topology and create the databases I am getting this error.
System.MissingMethodException: Method not found: 'System.String Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.ExceptionTemplatesImpl.BackupToUrlNotSupported
I have not been able to find any info on this error but it would appear the it has something to do with the fact these servers are developer edition. I was under the impression that developer edition included all features of the enterprise edition. Is that
not true? Has anyone else seen this error when it attempts to create the mirror?
Thanks
Dave

System Process Running out of Control - Overheating!
The other day I arrived home and went to check my e mail and found my computer running at full tilt with the fans going all out and the case quite hot. I thought maybe I had left dashboard open all day as I have done this before with similar results, but this was not the case.
I quit all programs and re started and the computer started to run at close to full process.
I ran software update and installed the RAW and system update that was available, re started still there. I ran disk utility to check/repair permissions until they were good.
I ran the onyx cleaning set of stuff that clears cashes and histories.
When looking at the process monitor it shows the processor running at close to 3/4 but even with programs open in the background it shows them using little to none as expected with the process monitor on top of the list using some processor, but the little color chart below that shows process separated by programs and system show the system process running quite high.
Lastly I noted that when I restart and then let the computer sit for a few minutes at the log in screen the system must be running hard again because the fans come on. I do not know what is causing this or what next step I should take to remediate it, please help!
JeromeHi, C Jerome. If your Powerbook were actually overheating, it would put itself to sleep, so you needn't worry that it's in danger of damaging itself. I can understand your interest in calming and quieting it, though.
First, how full is your hard drive? At least 10% of its capacity or 5GB, whichever is larger, should be free at all times. If you get down to much less than that, the processor and hard drive must work very hard cycling data in and out of virtual memory, and you run a substantial risk of system crashes, hard drive directory corruption and consequent loss of data.
Do you have disk indexing turned on? Indexing your drive is only useful if you use Find By Content searches (I'm not sure that's what Spotlight calls them, because I don't use Tiger). Indexing can consume an enormous amount of processor cycles and generate a lot of heat, in addition to taking up a significant amount of hard drive space. If you don't need it, turn it off. -

This 3rd time I followed this link. But nothing new, same error.
Can you please tell me how to do follow, I cannt do the 1st step, how to change the local system to windows level account, vice-versa. It is shown mine as
Server Configuration Manager(Local)
From here I folllowed the steps ---[I cannt insert link/image :-(]
SQL 2008/R2 setup fails with "Wait on the database engine recovery handle failed"
If I right clicked on SQL Server Service, there is no option to change the account.
Hello,
Thanks for your patience, did you tried stesp mentioned in below article
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqljourney/archive/2012/03/16/sql-2008-r2-setup-fails-with-quot-wait-on-the-database-engine-recovery-handle-failed-quot.aspx
To resolve it, follow these steps:-
When the installation throws this error, click on OK and allow it to proceed. It will fail for Database Engine, but the SQL Server service should have
been created. Check the Services console.
If the service is present, perform the following steps:-
1. Go to SQL Server Configuration manager, right click on the SQL Server service, and change the service account (if it is local system, give
it a windows level account, and vice-versa). It might throw a WMI error but you will see the account getting updated anyway. If not, then use the Services console. Change the account for SQL Agent as well.
Use this link to change sql server service account
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345578.aspx
2. Next, try to start the service. It should come online.
3. However, you will not be able to log in to the SQL Server
4. Now stop the service and start it from the command prompt using -m -c -T3608 parameters.
5. Now try logging in to the server using admin connection from sqlcmd (sqlcmd admin:<server name>\<instance name> ...)
6. Once logged in, use the sp_addsrvrolemember '<domain\username>','sysadmin'.
Also add the builtin/administrators to the sysadmin role
7. Now stop the service from the command prompt and start it from SQL Server configuration manager
You should be able to log in to the server now.
Hope this helps someone.

Installing SharePoint 2013 with SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition
Hi,
Can we use SQL Server 2012 Developer edition with SharePoint 2013? One thing that came to my mind was setting max degree of parallelism, is that supported in Developer edition? Looking forward to your assistance here.
Thanks,
kashifI'm slightly incorrect. See http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/4/A/64A1EC8F-F575-41E1-9D34-821FA9F98F8E/SQL_Server_2012_Licensing_Reference_Guide.pdf.
Licensing SQL Server for Non-production Use
The SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition is a full-function version of the SQL Server software—with all the
features and capabilities of the Enterprise edition—licensed under the Developer Tools model, which is a “per
user” model. One license is required for each person that accesses or uses the software.
When using SQL Server software for development, test or demonstration purposes, only the users are licensed
and there is no need for a corresponding license for the actual server systems running SQL Server software in
this case.
As long as only licensed users have access to the software, customers can install as many copies of the software
on any number of servers that are used exclusively for development, test or demonstration purposes. This
is significant, because it allows customers to run the software on multiple devices (for testing purposes, for
example) without having to license each non-production server system.
But no, as you can see above, you'll have no issues with the software (Developer Edition is Enterprise Edition with licensing restrictions, but no functionality restrictions).

Installing SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition or wait for SP2?
Hi everyone,
I just received my copy of SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition I ordered. As usual, before installing, I searched the web for any hint or other stuff on the subject.
I first found that SP1 was already available. Honestly I prefer installing using the last version available instead of upgrading. I found the SP1 install package using the following web address:
http://www.microsoft.com/fr-ca/download/details.aspx?id=35575
Is this the right install package to use?
Now, still reading everything I could find on that SP1, I found stories about major issues with SP1.
Two examples I remember:
http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/770630
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2793634/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0
Two others (not specifically related to SP1):
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/a0da3372-ab3d-4af0-b4c4-0d47163e0e03/
http://www.sqlperformance.com/2012/11/system-configuration/2012-cal-problems
My question. Should I wait for SP2? If so, any target date when it should be available?
If not, what would you recommend as the logic install sequence? Should I look for any cumulative update(s)? Any other "manual settings" I should consider?
Finally, can someone guide me regarding what options I should choose while installing. My main goal is to program/build C++, C# applications using VS2010 that will interface with SQL Server for data storage purposes (add/update/delete,
batch update/delete) and reports.
Hope to hear from someone.
Stephane
BTW: My current setup is the following:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU [email protected]
3.00 Go
Vista Ultimate SP2 32bits
Visual Studio 2010 Professional Edition (which will be upgraded to last SP once installed)Hi again,
I proceeded with download of CU7. On Microsoft's webpage, there are several files we can download:
2012_SP1_DAC_CU7_2894115_11_0_3393_x86
2012_SP1_AOrcleDes_CU7_2894115_11_0_3393_x86
2012_SP1_AOrcleSer_CU7_2894115_11_0_3393_x86
2012_SP1_PPExcel_CU7_2894115_11_0_3393_x86
SQLServer2012_SP1_CU7_2894115_11_0_3393_x86
Which one I should choose?
Also, some people reported having problems installing this update.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlreleaseservices/archive/2013/11/19/cumulative-update-7-for-sql-server-2012-sp1.aspx
Can you comment?
Thanks again for helping,

Sql 2012 express edition upgrade
Hi,
I have a SQL 2014 standard license. How can ı SQL 2012 Express edition upgrade to SQL 2012 standard edition ?Hello,
You can upgrade the Edition with the SQL Server installer, see MSDN
Upgrade to a Different Edition of SQL Server 2014 (Setup)
But why do you want to stay on Version 2012 if you have a license for the newer Version 2014?

SQL Server Developer Edition Licensing
SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition states that it can be used for end client acceptance testing. My question is this.
Does every end client that will be doing testing need to have a license or cal to be able to use the database for testing, or do you only need to buy licenses for the developers that will be developing against it?Each license of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition entitles one developer to use the software on as many systems as necessary and additional developers can use the software by purchasing additional licenses
Anyway for license related questions, it is better to ask Microsoft Licensing Team directly. You might want to look at these links:

SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition Installation Problem
Hi,
I have just been given a new PC by my IT department so am trying to get all the software I need onto the PC. Since I am now running windows 7 I wanted to try SQL Server 2012, however whenever I go to install it, one of the checks always fails as follows:-
SetupCompatibilityCheck
Checks whether the current version of SQL Server is compatible with a later installed version.
This version is not compatible with a later installed version. For more information, see the compatibility information at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=160850.
All other checks are successful but no matter whether I use the MSDN disc the software is on or the downloaded copy, the software doesn't seem to like my PC. I don't understand how the software can believe there is something
newer than SQL Server 2012 on the system. When I run the discovery tool elsewhere in the installer it reports that nothing is installed.
Is anyone able to give me some information on what might be triggering this? I did install Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2010 on the system prior to this, as well as SQL Server 2008 R2, but I have since removed all of these products again in order
to try and identify the cause of this problem. Now with nothing left on the system again, it still reports this same error. Could it be something is left over from those installations that is causing this problem?

Hi Paul,
Any progress?
This issue you met may be due to there are still registry keys left related to the SQL Server, even though we have uninstalled the SQL Server.
To fix the issue, we can remove the left keys manually:
1. Click 'Start' > 'Run' > type 'regedit' > press Enter key.
2. Backup this registry keys that related to SQL Server under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
3. Delete keys that relate to SQL Server under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.
4. Restart the setup installation.
If you have any problem, please feel free to let me know.
Thanks,
Maggie

ISSUE Sharepoint 2013 databases for reporting services on the second server SQL 2012
Hello,
I have server A: Operating system windows 2012 standard, SQL server 2012 standard
instance: Sharepoint contains data for sharepint
instance: Reporting should be contain databases for reporting
Server B:
Windows server 2012 standard contains installation Sharepoint 2013
Sharepoint works (without reporting services), it is OK - databases are located on server A:
My issue is:
When I have installed reporting services on server B, I have already installed SQL server 2012 on server B, it works.
I am able to create report in report builder adn place it in to sharepoint.
But I would like to use only one full SQL machine on server A:
When I reconfigure repoting settings on server A in central administration - manage service aplications,
On the SQL server A in instance reporting , there is automatically created databases. It is no problem.
But the first difference is, when I want to manage service aplication for reporting in
Provision Subscriptions and Alerts, there is information
SQL Server Agent state cannot be determined
When I want to create report in report builder, I have issue:
server A-7380mw016\reporting it means server A with full SQL server:
The Test of connection was successful
Then I have clicked test connection
I have recieved this screen with fail: Logon faild for user NT Authority\anonymous logon
My account belongs to SQL admin on server A (A-7380mw016\reporting) I do not know it is not possible to create report, when it is possible to test connection in the first step and in the second step, there is problem...
Please, can somebody help me?Hi,
Since you are getting an Anonymous Logon error, it appears there may be a problem passing your credentials to the SQL Server Agent Service. This would indicate a Kerberos issue. See this thread for details:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/video/Video/hh858469
Tips from the video:
We are connecting to Reporting services using Kerberos when using Reporting Services in SharePoint integrated mode
For the account using reporting services, we just need a dummy SPN. We go to Attribute editor tab in AD for RS account. And then we will be enabled with Delegation tab.
In Delegation tab. I we are using claims to windows token, we need to use "Trust this user for delegation to specified services only"
There you have 2 options: "Use Kerberos only": It means I only want to delegate in the situation where the service that is doing the delegation actually has the Kerberos ticket to start with
"Use any authentication protocol" When we need protocol transition (like from NTLM to claims for intra farm communication)
We need to delegate this to SQL server.

SQL Server - Developer Edition - Downgrade to standard edition
Hi,
So the developer edition is a great way to setup a dev and test environment for pretty much nothing. But it is fully featured as an Enterprise Edition.
Now, we are using Standard Edition on our production servers.
Is it possible to install Developer Edition with only the standard edition features ?
Or to buy the developer licences and install standard edition for the test environment ?
The risk being that our devs use enterprise editions in the dev environment that would not work in production and thus add dev cycles.
ThanksHello,
Probably you can block the use of some enterprise features using Policy Based Management.
