System restore using the Recovery CD on Portege M200

Hi, I want to restore my M200 using the recover DVD supplied. I have a Toshiba PA345U-1DV2 external USB DVD that came with a CD that includes drivers for DOS. The readme file in the dos driver folder is in Japanese! I've created a boot SD card using the Toshiba util and added the dos drivers to the config.sys file.
No matter what I try I cannot get the USB DVD to boot in dos and therefore read the restore DVD. I must admit this is driving me nuts. I've tried every option I can find on the net and still not luck. Can anyone help?
It seems to me that as the DVD player is Toshiba and has dos drivers it should work.

Thanks for your help, working through the various links you gave me I came across this one http://www.zipvoid.co.uk/
downloaded the file and gave it a go.
IT WORKS - its the only solution I've tried that does. Boots from a floppy, see's my USB drive and boots the recovery DVD.
Did have a go at PXE but couldn't quite get it to work - maybe with a bit more time if I have the desire. But to be frank having spent the last three day's trying to solve this problem now I've found a solution, I don't think it's that high on my list of things to do!
I guess I might be lucky as I do have a Toshiba USB drive. The drive and floppy drive I have are Toshiba PA3454U-1DV2 DVD USB Drive and Sony Vaio PCGA-UFDF USB Floppy Drive.
Thanks again for the help

  • I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows.  I upgraded to Lion and somehow it crashes the mac side peridoically.  I am told I need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the recovery drive.  will that delete the windows partition too??

I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows.  I upgraded to Lion and now the mac side crashes/freezes periodically, especially iphoto.  I am told by the genius' that I probably need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the "recovery drive" which resets everything back to default and reinstalls the lion operating system.  My question is will this also delete the "windows" partition drive and all that data too.  If so that will be a huge pain in the ___ to back up and reinstall boot camp and windows. I want to shoot the lion.

There is no system like Acronis for the Mac platform. You can try using the buiilt in Disk Utility to create an Image of the complete Mac drive but I have found that this does not work very well as on tryiing to restore it gives errors sometimes.
You can use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable Clone of your system partition. But that is only for the System partition and not the complete drive.
If you use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac neither of those two programs will clone the Windows side.
Neither will Disk utility as Mac's can not create or write to a NTFS partition. So some other program is need for that.

  • Is it possible to make a slipstream using the recovery CD (SM30-154 WXP)?

Is it possible to make an slipstream using the product recovery (satelite pro SM30-154 and windows XP home) and die windows XP sp 3 update?
    If so, how?

    Hi
What you could do is to create a new image using a 3rd party application like Norton Ghost for example.
You could firstly install the Windows XP using the Toshiba recovery CD.
Then you could install the MS service pack 3 and then you could create the new image.
Such image could be stored on the new CD or as file on the second partition.
I did it too. Ive got two partitions on my HDD and have created a backup of C (system partition) using the Ghost. The file is stored on D (data partition) and if something will go wrong with my Windows I can restore it using this file.
    Easy ;)

  • Error: This disk needs to be repaired using the Recovery HD.  When I boot on Recovery and run verify disk, the error doesn't come anymore. Just when I run verify disk on normal mode. Anybody has seen this before?

My Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2013) has been freezing out of the blue probably once every two months. I restarted on safe mode, went to Disk Utility, repaired permissions and ran "Verify Disk" and got  the following:
Invalid directory item count(It should be 114483 instead of 114484)
File system check exit code is 8.
Error: This disk needs to be repaired using the Recovery HD. Restart your computer, holding down the Command key and the R key until you see the Apple logo. When the OS X Utilities window appears, choose Disk Utility.
Rebooted on Recovery mode and ran "Verify Disk" but the message didn't appear anymore, thus not letting me to access the "Recovery HD" procedure.
When I restart normally and do the disk verification I get the same error.
Has anybody come to something similar?
    Suggestions?

I never  ever run a Verify Disk. I simple repair the disk drive and then the user partition(s).
And do one or two Safe Boots.
Also helpful to have two full backups: TimeMachine at least, plus a clone of your system drive and data.
Install or clone the system to an external hard drive, repair that and then boot from it, check that everything works, repair the internal drive.
You need to use Repair to TRIM an SSD.
Lots of problems with Yosemite when updating install a new OS. Always better to backup, erase, install, and then use Setup Assistant to import and restore settings and files.
Probably better to post in the MacBook Pro forum or better yet, in Yosemite forum.

  • Need help - Error while updating the firmware of Muvo Slim using the recovery t

    Hi ,
While I am trying to update my Muvo slim firmware using the recovery tool it throwd up an error. And from then onwards if I am trying to power it up it won't.
If I again try to update the firmware, it throws up the error that "Unable to Write to Device: Device Time out".
I am afraid that my Muvo slim got bricked. Can you please help me in recovering the same.
PS: My PC OS is Windows XP.
    Thank & Regards
    ksraghava?

On my XP system, the last time I wanted to reload the firmware, I had to remove all of my Creative software programs,?and then revert my Windows Media Player back to 0 and then use The Recovery Tool. It is a bit of a pain, but does seem to work when you are getting errors with the firmware download.

Almost forgot. Make sure your player is fully charged or has a fresh battery before starting any firmware download.

Your backups may be hopelessly corrupted, but there's a chance an (expensive) 3rd-party Disk Repair utility might be able to fix them.  For the moment, eject and disconnect the TM drive and try to repair the internal.

    Do that first.
If that's not clear, see the yelow box in #6 of Using Disk Utility.

  • I am unclear how I have to use the Recovery CD

I have added up all the space my hard disk is using it comes to about 12GB, I have 27.9 GB disk space but my disk only has 1.80 disk space left. I have done everything obvious to resolve this problem. Recycle bin is empty, I have run disk clean up.
A computer expert suggested that Windows could have become confused and cannot recognize what space I have spare, this could be because I have run a program called Cyberscrub often. His solution was to reload Windows XP home. My laptop came with recovery disks, everything else already loaded. I have so much I do not want to lose on my laptop. If I use the recovery disks, will I lose everything on my computer, am I best to buy Windows XP home and re-load, in which case will I not lose my work?
Also I am unclear how I use the recovery discs, I cannot find any instructions on what you do.
The one person who could help me has gone off traveling and not contactable.
    Any help greatly appreciated

    Hello,
what kind of programs do you have on your harddisk? Maybe a little description of your System will help us further. You mentioned, that you have a Program called Cyberscrub. Is this Program showing you your diskspace? Check this out! This program is, as i know, usually intended to wipe harddisks or files.
Maybe you can try some Registry cleaner that cleanes out some information which is showing you wrong information that is corrupted by Cyberscrub. Maybe this helps.
Another suggestion: run the program "chkdsk". This program will check out your filesystem on errors. Maybe it can fix that problem. You can run this program with right-clicking on the symbol of your systemdisk, clicking on "extras" and choosing the "Checking on errors" or something like.
At all events, when this fails, then you dont have to buy a new XP Home. You dont need it because you have already one on a recovery cd, and you can solve that easily.
You have to write down which programs you have in your system and backup your important data with a backup program or just burn it to a dvd or cd. You have the option to put the whole system on a mobile Harddisk connected over USB. This means backing up your system to this harddisk.
After that, you have to boot with the recovery-cd, by pushing the "c" button at boot time.
Then you follow the instructions and reload the "factory-like-installed" Windows XP on your Harddisk. Dont forget: all your data on the system disk will be erased, and the corrupted information of the free diskspace too. After that you just put the backup of your data back to your systemdisk and reinstall the programs you noted before the re-install of your system. Then the system will be clear again.
Let me know about the activity of your problem.

    Hi,
Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f11 as you start to access Recovery Manager which you can then use to reinstall the Operating System.

  • Disk needs to be repaired using the recovery HD

    Hello,
I have received an error when running disk utility that says, "This disk needs to be repaired using the Recovery HD." This issue has popped on a couple of times on my previous MacBooks and maybe once on my current one.
I have followed the suggested protocol (restart + command + r), and I choose disk utilities from the menu at start-up. I have both verified and repaired the disk (my HD), and disk utility says there are no errors; however, when I do a normal restart and run disk utilities again, I get the error message This disk needs to be repaired" again. I have cycled through this process and each time verify and repair disk on the Recovery HD indicates that nothing is wrong while verifying the disk on normal startup results in the same error. I computer has also been laggy.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

all my programs are opening in adobe even the system restore and the regisrty -
how do I reset all programs to their originall default programs.
    Please help.
PS I have also tried starting in save mode and still have the same problem.

    Hi,
    As
BurrWalnut mentioned, first please run a virus scan to eliminate virus infection (if AV program is not opened in adobe)
The files association could be corrupted in your situation, apart from the solution posted in the first reply, I also suggest you check Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set your Default Programs or Associate a file type or protocol
with a progra,, manually check the association and check if it can do some help.
Add: another way to open restore point is launching it in recovery console, please refer to this guide

  • Is there an option to use MBR partitioning when you use the recovery media?

I need to switch to MBR partitioning.
I have a satellite C55D-a5240NR. I have my recovery media and I am going to back up my data.
Using the recovery media I see that you can reformat and partition your drive but I dont see any documentation beyond that. If you go that route is there an option to use MBR?

No. When you restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents, all the bits are laid down as they were. So you get GPT partitioning.

  • GT60 - Can I break RAID0 and then use the Recovery disks?

Is it possible to break the RAID0 and then use the recovery disks from MSI Burn Recovery or a Windows Home Premium Disk with the code from the sticker on my laptop,  to install back to factory settings without the RAID0? Just want to make sure before I do something drastic. Thank you.

you can always make an system image of your current windows on an external drive and then experiment with it and if anything breaks, just change bios settings to older ones and recover your older system, everything will be intact like nothing ever happened.
