System tray volume always on
Is there a way to always have the sys tray icon display the vol control, so that when acti'vely in a program you can change teh volumne without having to click on the icon and wait 5 seconds for it to come up?
using audigy 4
Can't you click on the tray icon and get the Windows-volume-controls window to popup? That should have a minimize button, so you can minimize that and keep it handy.

Thanks. Can't minimize it, there is no 'tag' to minimize the icon that I can see. Do you know how?

Hey all -
I'm looking for a volume control system tray applet that is controlled by a slider rather than mouse wheel. This is mostly because I want to use this on my laptop, which I normally control via touch pad rather than a 'full' mouse. This takes both volwheel (which is a great app, just not suited for me here...) and gvtray (also a great app, but hideously ugly and ill suited for this.)
Any help?i dont know what version of gvtray you were using, but this one has a slider. i've hardcoded the icons, but you can easily change that. default is my gnome volume icons.
http://rafb.net/p/yPeaWY33.html
let me know if you need anything, i know longer use this script so it may take me a while to figure out what's wrong. also i didnt write it, just edited for my needs.
edit: i've just looked at it again. it only uses one icon, so there is effectively no status indicator. i think it was gbatt that i made use multiple icons. sorry.

[SOLVED]KDE does not remember window state, restoring from System Tray
Hi,
I'm facing a problem with some KDE applications that dock in the system tray, like Amarok and Konversation. I like to keep these apps maximized. But when I restore them from the system tray, they always revert back to their original, unmaximized size. Is there any workaround or fix for this?
Using KDE 4.3.4-2 (not KDEmod)
Thanks.
Last edited by codemon (2009-12-08 08:56:16)Funny thing happened. I tried out your suggestion for my Firefox window, which would always start in an un-maximized state. It worked perfectly. Then I opened up Konversation and Amarok, and found that they properly remember the window state now!
Thanks for the help. -
Gvolicon - a lightweight volume icon in your system tray
Hello,
Some days ago whilst on vacation, I whipped up this lightweight and very simple volume icon. As some of you might have seen in my previous topic, this project is based on Fogobogo's gtk-vol and as such most of the features are the same:
Easily change volume levels by scrolling on the icon
Easily mute and restore the volume by clicking on the icon
No right-click menu
Also see Gvolicon's help output:
-v, --version Display version and exit
-d, --device Device to use
-m, --mixer Mixer to use
-u, --update-interval Set update interval in seconds
-s, --volume-step Set volume step to increase or decrease the volume with
-i, --symbolic-icons Use symbolic icons
You can get Gvolicon in the AUR or you can get the code directly from GitHub.Did you somehow uncheck the "Load volume Icon At Startup" in controls?Having this checked the Creative Volume Panel will always startup in the system tray. Or, Did you try executing the program in the desktop program group "Creative>Sound Blaster X-Fi>Creative Volume Panel" If all these things don't work, try to do a repair in the "Control Panel>Programs and Features>Sound Blaster X-Fi"

Volume missing in system tray, mute buttons not working
hi, i just reformatted and installed the latest drivers for my Creative Soundblaster Digital 5. (dell) card, and at first everything was fine..
Now they Icon for sound is missing from the system tray.. My volume dial and mute button no longer work. and yes i have gone in and selected to have it appear in the tray.. that does nothing.
Also, all other sounds are working except for sounds from web browsers.. and I have all the necessary pluggins installed..
thanks creative... great products...Message Edited by maluut on 0-0-2006 05:07 PMI have a similar problem with my elite pro card and would also like an answer.
I installed the new drivers and now my volume knob does not work nor can I adjust volume with the remote control. The mute button does work though.
Also why such an annoyance as to need the original disc in order to make the control panel work in the system tray? shouldn't driver updates be complete?
Also...what's up with the max volume white noise during the driver install which made my ears ring and nearly blew out my speaker system? -
No Volume in system tray, master volume disabled, no audio drivers - Dv6500 model
Hi,
OS- win xp sp2(downgrade from vista to xp )
Model: dv 6500
I need serious help with my audio drivers. To start off there is no volume icon in my system tray, so I tried to enable it through control panel but before I try to enable it, the master volume is already greyed out so there is no way i can enable it or get it on system tray nor can i change the volume, mixer setting or just any setting in sound volume and devices dialog box.
Initially in teh properties tab of sound and devices the message was all drivers are working fine however still I could not listen any voice from any application. I tried to reintall the old audio driver(sp34200) and new one's like sp33310 still there is no audio..
tried to start audio application in services but still no result, did a virus check but it shown no virus attack. I have given up , plz help me out . I am exhausted i guess I ahve tried each and everything available on net. plz plz help someone.I can't help, other than to say this happened to me today with the same hardware, only with GarageBand.
I recorded bass tracks this morning -- no problem. This afternoon, though, every time I plugged in the Tascam GarageBand went silent, even though the system input shows sound coming in. -
How do I get the speaker icon to STAY in my system tray?
How do I get the speaker icon to STAY in my system tray? Every time I mute the speakers, the icon disappears from my system tray. I have a very difficult time getting it back, and I can never remember how I do it. Can someone give me some helpful, easy to remember steps on how to KEEP the sound/volume icon in my system tray? Thanks.

I did what you said. There is not a "system icons to always show". What it does say is "turn system icons on or off". The one for the sound icon is greyed out and CANNOT be clicked on. This happens every time I mute the speakers.
So, how do I get it back?

In the menu that said "turn system icons on or off", try clicking on the blue writing on the bottom left of that menu that says "restore default icon behaviors". -
System Image Utility always fails, why?
Hi everyone,
on my clean and fresh install of 10.7.4 Server the System Image Utility always fails to create an image. I want to create a NetInstall image and have put the OS X Lion Installer in /Applications. I can select it in SIU and choose to create a NetInstall image. It asks for the admin pw and always presents an error at the very end: Image creation failed. An unknown error has occured.
If I select to create a NetBoot image instead it fails directly after clicking on the Create button with this slightly different message: Image creation failed. An error has occured. At least it’s no unknown error…
Any ideas what might be causing this? I have succesfully created NetInstall images with 10.6 Server and 10.8 Server, but 10.7 Server somehow won’t play nice.
Thanks
BjörnHi Brian,
I first deleted the Installer and redownloaded it from the App Store, just to make sure there was no problem with it. Even though I now have the 10.7.4 Installer (had 10.7.0 before) nothing has changed. I then went on to set the log level as suggested. I now get different errors based on the chosen log level.
Log level set to debug:
Image creation failed.
*** -[__NSArrayM insertObject:atIndex:]: object cannot be nil
Log level set to verbose:
Image creation failed.
An unknown error has occurred.
I did not see anything helpful in the logs unfortunately. The only noticeable thing mentioned was: Failed to create image from installer media.
Any additional ideas? I will attach both logs here, just in case.

Firefox 4.0 cannot find the Yahoo mail URL. Working with the Verizon tech we were able to get Internet Explorer to finaly find the yahoo mail web site. But not luck with Firefox 4.0 .
Since trying your suggestions to make firefox 4 find the Yahoo mail URL. I have noticed that all of my system tray icons except the Panda anti virus and volume control icons have disapeared. My system restore will not restore and printers are gone altogether. How do I get the old firefox and all i've lost back.
Hector, Still cannot fix it to get Yahoo e-mail. This what I get now from Ff3.5 now.
Sorry, we can't find "http://us.mc1121.mail.yahoo.com/mc/welcome". Please check the spelling of the web address.
From Ff4 it can't find the " URL proxy server" on it's server???
Have tried most every solutions/suggestion I could find have my computer just keeps getting worse. Where do I find the 4 solutions you mention here to see if I have not already tried them? I don't see or know where to go to find these solutions??? Can anyone help me find the fix???

Bootcamp Control Panel Gone (Windows 7 System Tray)
After I installed Windows 7 64-bit using bootcamp, I had a system tray icon for the Bootcamp Control Panel. It recently disappeared and I can't get it to appear back. Without the control panel running properly, it looks like the volume keys, backlit keyboard, etc don't work anymore in Windows.
I have tried the things I could find in these forums and through online searches but nothing has worked:
1) Uninstall and then reinstall Bootcamp drivers and controll panel program using the OSX install DVD. I installed "Boot Camp Update for MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) (Windows 64 bit)"
2) Using msconfig to confirm Bootcamp was in the start up program list (it was already in the list so I unchecked it, rebooted, then checked it again, an rebooted)
3) Running Bootcamp.exe in Windows Vista compatibility mode
4) Checking my registry for the entry being there correctly (it was)
5) Customising the "notification area icons" to make bootcamp have the "Show icon and notifications" behavior.
None of these things worked. For additional information, I see that Bootcamp.exe is in the Windows task manager process list so it seems to be running.
How anyone found a solution to get the control panel system tray working again?
Thank you!Hi Flying High,
Thanks for the response. The little gray square for the Boot Camp Manager has shown up in the notification area before (accessible through the little arrow on the right side of the screen), but the problem is that it doesn't show up anymore.
I just tried uninstalling Boot Camp and all the drivers, and then reinstalling it again from the DVD and using the "Boot Camp Update for MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010 (Windows 64 bit)"...
The little gray square for the Boot Camp Manager showed up after the first reboot and the function keys worked (like volume control), but when I rebooted again, the notification manager didn't show up and none of the function keys work anymore. So back to square one.
Has anyone had this problem with the Boot Camp Manager showing up in the notification ares only after the initial installation but not after reboots?
Thank you! -
Need to Lock down Keyboard Manager System Tray Icon
I run 27 MacBooks at a Secondary School. I have them setup for Windows XP Pro (I'll be setting up the Mac OS over then next few weeks but this is a MS Windows School so lets start slow). Hoever I need to be able to disable the "Boot Mac OS" option on the Keyboard Manager. But still have access to Volume and Eject etc Keys.
Solution: 1
a .adm file so that I can contol what is avilable to students through Group Policy (disable reboot in Mac, Disable Boot Camp First time Run Help Screen)
Solution 2
A Keyboard driver that will make all the Keys work (and remote if possible) but has no System tray Icon
Solution 3
Hide the System tray icon (as say an option in the Boot Camp Control Panel which I can already disable through group policy) then all I need to kill is the anoying first time run help screen.
The help screen is anoying because for each of the 800 student will probably only login into each laptop once each so that will come up every time, because I reimage every 3 months or so.
The reboot in Mac OS would be no problem if it did not perminatly change to boot order and the Mac OS side boot change back is too complicated for most first time Mac users. The way I will be introducing the Mac OS is telling them about the hold the "option" key trick on boot. hence the dummys will get what they are expecting, and the smarties have the option without afecting the dummys.
I relise this is a Devolopers thing but I can find no other way to inform them of the need. I dout I am the only System admin needing this.
Thank You
Message was edited by: Solus VenatorUnfortunately no that did not help
Using msconfig only stops the Keyboard Manager from running. I can do that simply be removing it from the registry with out the annoying msconfig messages. (good for testing though)
I have also looked into the Hide tray Icon Path but that only tucks it behind a set of “<<”
And the reboot function does Permanently Change the Boot Order. (Not the boot sector necessarily, The Boot Order) to change it back you need to login into the Mac OS and System Prefs Disk Boot Select the Boot Camp Part and Reboot …… Big Pain in neck.
The Keyboard Manager icon does not have an eject option… If is needed for the Eject Key to work (and the Volume Mute, Up, Down, Brightness Up, Down. Note it is not Needed for the Play FF Rew Keys they work fine with the Fn Key)
Here is the test
With no icon showing, or an icon with no reboot option : Press The Eject Key if the CD Ejects Success, I also need Volume do not care about the others as much
As Stated this is a Developer( Programmer) oversite and needs them to put in an option to remove the reboot option from the System tray Icon. Removal of the Icon would also be desirable
Thank You -
No Sound- Display in the System Tray
Yes... I don't have the Sound display in the system tray where i normally see how loud the tones are when i'm adjust it with the little small weel on the toshiba laptops for the volume (simple, but cool idea^^) ---i don't know why i don't see it- if i klick with the right mouse-button on the other system- symbols, and go to the settings for them, i see, that i have activate every (from the 4) system symbol, except the volume- symbol, which is dubbed over in grey, so i cannot take it on that i see it in the system tray!
how could i re-activate it? (i also try a system- recovery and search in the services- i dont get this button in my system tray!Hi mate,
commonly you will have to go to the audio properties and there is a option (checkbox) where you can check/uncheck the "show volume control in the tray" or something which sounds similar. :D
This checkbox must be checked and you must press "Apply".
Thats all, there are no other options, just this one in the audio properties.
Do you have sound?

Disappearing Z from System Tray
I wish the Z didn't always disappear from they system tray. It has been an issue for us on 10.3.1, 10.3.3 and 10.3.4. Sure would like it if that bugger was self healing at the least, would be even better if it was stable and didn't need to self-heal.

How do I minimize to system tray?
I am just new to Firefox and it looks pretty good, but I would always like to have it open and so when I minimize I would like it to show as an icon in the Systems Tray. How can I achieve this?
you'd have to install an addon like this one to get that feature: [https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/minimizetotray-revived/]

No icon in system tray for SB surround 5.1
Hi, I've just bought one Sound Blaster Surround 5. from ebay. It comes the device alone without installation CD. So I downloaded and installed the driver pack .0.0076 and Console Launcher. It works fine on my XP system, besides that there is no volume control icon in system tray. I used to have a Sound Blaster Digital Music LX, which did have an icon there. I'm just wondering whether it is just like that or should I do anything that might help.
Thanks.

xcynn,
What is the serial number of your card? You might find the original installation CD . There are a couple of SB 5. OEM ISOs there. Otherwise, for many other SB cards, there is a "help" question mark on the panel of apps such as the mixer. Next to that question mark there is a downward pointing triangle. If you have anything like that in your Console, click on it and see if there is an option to display the volume icon on the taskbar. However, a left click of the Creative volume icon brings up the Creative mixer. If you don't have that mixer, I'm not sure what, if any, volume controls would come up even if you had the SB volume icon. In that case, the Windows volume icon gives you all the volume/mixer options you need.
