Systemd hybrid-sleep not working

Hi!
Today i finally tried out (only for curiosity) hybrid-sleep, and i discovered it is not working.
I'm not using testing repo. So, systemd 196 should be able to hybrid-sleep.
First problem: i need to put my password to hybrid-sleep, while for suspend and hibernate that is not necessary.
Second problem: as far as i understand, hybrid-sleep should be a normal suspend, but in background the netbook should suspend to disk too, in event of lack of energy. Is this correct? Well, on my netbook, it only hibernates, as if i did a "systemctl hibernate".
journalctl
dic 02 18:48:33 arch systemd-sleep[4421]: Hibernating and suspending system...
dic 02 18:49:09 arch systemd-sleep[4421]: System thawed.
But it is not "hibernating and suspending", it is only hibernated.
By the way, i'm not using pm-utils.
Any hint?
Thanks!

I can reproduce this behaviour with systemd-196-2. systemctl hybrid-sleep just hibernates and powers off. Further investigation of this issue brought the following issues:
systemctl suspend works as expected.
systemctl hibernate works also.
Disabling hibernation (by disabling the swap and resume partition) leads to suspend to ram with the hybrid-sleep command.
Circumventing systemd does the job and correctly hibernates AND suspends:
echo suspend > /sys/power/disk; echo disk > /sys/power/state
So I guess the kernel part of hybrid-sleep and the hardware work correctly and somehow the systemd-hybrid-sleep.service does not work. The service file has the line:
ExecStart=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-sleep hybrid-sleep
which seems to be the relevant command.

  • Bluetooth and sleep not working

MacBook bluetooth "not available" at the same time as sleep not working (the cd drive wakes up and puts it out of sleep after about 20s). These two faults occur together and are intermittent, though increasing in frequency. I have tried all the fixes (flashing, power reset etc) listed, but none are working, e.g. an earlier post is below. Anyone with any clues - I'm in guarantee but would rather not have people pulling the machine to pieces if I don't need to.

PS. to the above, just worked out that it only happens when I'm connected to mains power (not on battery) so i guess it's some hardware glitch...

  • Hybrid Search not working from SharePoint 2013 Online to SharePoint On-premise

    Hi,
I have setup a SharePoint 2013 Hybrid environment setup with the following –
    Windows Server 2012 R2
SharePoint Server 2013 with April 2014 CU
    SQL Server 2014
ADFS 3.0 using SSO with Web proxy and DirSync
SharePoint 2013 Online tenant on Office 365 Enterprise Subscription
I have configured the Hybrid following the article
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj838715(v=office.15).aspx and configured Hybrid Search. The hybrid environment was working fine including Search both ways initially
but after upgrade to April CU 2014 (along with upgrade to SQL 2014 from SQL 2012), now search from SharePoint online to SharePoint in-Premise is not working anymore.
I am still able login with the federated IDs in both the environments and get results from SharePoint Online in SharePoint in-Premise environment.
I have already tried most of the troubleshooting steps mentioned at
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn518363(v=office.15).aspx
Now every time, we perform a search in our SharePoint Online site, which is configured to show hybrid results from SharePoint in-premise, we don’t get results from in-premise and instead we see the following error logged in SharePoint
    In-premise Web Server –
Error - An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: Exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' was thrown. Parameter name: value.
And ULS log shows the following – Even though the message seems apparent that there could be duplicate users in user profile Application, but that’s not the case. There are just 2 unique users added there.

    Any ideas?
    Anupam Shrivastava

I am experiencing the same issue. Don't have the answer yet about what's wrong exactly. And my SSO works fine too.
I know precisely what makes the SharePoint throw the ArgumentException, but I can't yet figure out how to influence this behavior. I will respond back if I find out, but I hope the following will create an "aha moment" for someone.
So the SP Online issues an OAuth request to the on-prem SharePoint. If verbose logging is on for the Claims category, you may see how it reads these claims. One of them is this:
    Claim['nii':'urn:federation:microsoftonline']
Using this claim and the nameid claim the profile mapping logic then reports the following immediately before the error (Set User Profiles to verbose to see this):
Creating encoded sid for nameid '100300008b29cb02' and nameidissuer 'urn:federation:microsoftonline'
Inspecting this logic with Reflector, I can see that it then attempts to infer the identity provider type from the nameidissuer, and throws the exception, because "federation" is not what it expects. It expects either "windows", "trusted" or "forms" for
    the provider type.
So the user's actions to lead to this error were as follows:
    1. I connect to the Office 365 portal, and get redirected to my ADFS server (same domain for the ADFS server, on-prem SharePoint, and the user accounts).
    2. I log on, and from the SP Online portal I issue my search query using a result source configured as per the Hybrid TechNet guidance.
So thanks in advance for any suggestions, on what it could be.

  • Sleep not working correctly

Since updating my Late 2010 iMac to Moutain Lion the sleep function does not work correctly. They system keep waking up for no reason. The monitor comes comes day or night. I cannot figure out a fix or work around. Any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. *Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • T42p vista fn + f3 and fn + f4 functions (turn off screen and sleep) not working correctly

Hi -- I recently installed windows vista on my T42p.  It works fine except that the fn+f3 and fn+f4 functions do not work as expected.  Before installing the hotkeys driver, the fn+f4 function worked correctly while f3 did not (going to sleep worked, turning the monitor off did not).  I then installed the recommended hotkeys driver.  Now fn+f4 makes the monitor turn off while f3 does nothing ... fn+f4 is supposed to put the laptop to sleep.  On top of this, if i select "sleep" from the start menu, the computer turns the monitor off instead of going to sleep.
Presumably, the sleep button could still be telling the computer to go to sleep, but the actual operation of going to sleep is now broken?  Just a guess.  Anyways -- anyone know how to resolve this so that fn+f3 turns my monitor off and fn+f4 puts my computer to sleep?

I've too this problem, but more, my sound mute wasn't worked (for deblock, but it can block it few second before...) 5 days in 5-6 instalation of three version of winxp: winxp ru x64 sp2, winxp es/ru sp3 x32.
eventually I've found and ran "TPOSDSVC.exe" in instalation directory and it give an opportunity  deblocking the sound volume!!!!!!!!!!!! and I don't need more functions
volume levels and brightness adjustment worked well without OSD (before I ran TPOSDSVC.exe) and with OSD.
and now I don't know worked this bustered sound driver in winxp x64.

  • "Display sleep" not working

I have my energy saver set to have the display go to sleep after 1 min. I dont like the bright glare coming from the iMac when i am not using it.
It worked fine until last night.
One thing that i think may have changed it: i used an emulation software called SNES9x for playing games. I noticed that in order for the software to work it had to adjust the displays when I used it (i saw the blue screens come on for a second).
The displays look the same now that I am not using it though.
How do i get sleep display working again?

This is not working on my phone and when I try to enter 'character settings' to enable it, it fails with 'settings has stopped'.
Mine has installed from the vendor: VIBEUI_V2.5_11520_5.827.1_ST_K50-T5

  • Suspend / Sleep not working anymore

    Hi all,
for some short time now, my Mac Mini (Intel) doesn't go to suspend anymore. When I try to put it to sleep with the remote control, it powers down as expected but immediatly powers on again.
I tried to look in the logs (sudo dmesg) and all I could find was som entry from bluetooth. Bluetooth is disabled, though. The only bluetooth thingy running is the bluetooth applikation in the menubar.
    Am I missing something?

    Hi Pos,
thanks for the fast reply. I tried everything in your list. I even disabled almost all widgets, killed all unneccessary processes (SmartMon, Quickslver, iCal, ...), disconnected all USB devices, but no luck. I also looked at the log again and I must admit that I just went through it to fast. It is not the bluetooth device that causes the awake, it's... I just don't know.
    here is an exerpt:

The state change from sleep to awake is really instantaniously.
The strange thing is, the sleeping mode that kicks in with the screensaver works flawlessly, only the sleeping mode activated by the remote or the Apple menu does not.
I am very close to reinstall everything.

  • [SOLVED] systemd/user interface not working

I cannot use user service files, because systemctl gives me this error:
    $ systemctl --user status
Failed to get D-Bus connection: No such file or directory
It's been a while since I used a user service file, so I don't know when it started exactly.
How can I further diagnose this? I've done everything in the wiki related pages, so I'm clueless right now...
    Thanks in advance

  • Screen sleep not working

Since I upgraded to Lion my screen does not go to sleep. I have set and reset the  Energy saver settings but it just seems to have a full bright screen all day and night. Hot corners work and I can set the screen to sleep but when I come back a few inutes later the screen is bright again!
    What have I done wrong?

How to disable the closed-clamshell mode?
I think, this is what you're looking for ... maybe you want to uproot that question.

  • Sleep not working in Lion

    Hi,
I noticed, when I put my iMac (27", i7, late 2009) to sleep, right before I go to bed, it does not stay in sleep mode during the night.
In the morning I can hear the fans spin and if I hit a key, the iMac immediately turns on.
I had sleep mode issues in the very first version of Snow Leopard too, but it worked perfect after an update. Now its all messed up.
    Dirk

It shows up just fine for me. Are you sure it isn't hidden behind another window? Try exiting out of full-screen mode (if you are in full-screen).

  • T540p Intel HD Graphics Brighness and Sleep not working

So, I just got my shiny new T540p with a 3K display and Win Pro 8 installed. I promptly upgraded to Win 8.1 Pro and now I have a problem with the Intel HD Graphics. Basically, the system will not turn the display on after a sleep and I can't adjust brightness. I tried downloading the drivers from the support page, but they reference a Intel(R) HD Graphics 5000 card, whereas my system says it has a Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 installed. When I try to run the driver install anyway, I get a message saying that my system does not meet the minimum requirement for installation (??????). I tried manually installing the Intel(R) HD Graphics Family driver instead. This fixed sleep and brightness control, but then all things 3D was completely messed up (like buttons in Skype and Chrome). So I have nailed it down to a defective driver. Does anyone know where to get a driver that will fix this or some other method to get this sorted out?

I got a brand-new Thinkpad T540p (64-bit Win7, 1920 x 1080 display) three days ago and it’s great except that each time it goes to Sleep or Hibernates there’s a roughly one-in-three chance that it will lock up and need a forced shut down. The brightness control works ok and this is Windows 7, not Windows 8. The drivers are all up-to-date according to Lenovo (I’ve done their recommended updates) but do you think this could be the same problem as described in this thread? Sometimes it freezes in the act of going to Sleep and other times it freezes on waking up. I’ve noticed three types of freeze: Type 1: the screen shows the default blue screensaver with a big ‘Think’ on it but won’t respond to any controls. (Pretty ironic this – it’s forcing me to think hard!). Type 2: the screen is all black but with backlighting seeping through. The brightness controls operate and if I click F8 I get the ‘Change Power Settings of Wireless Radios’ screen and all the buttons work, except when I click ‘Close’ they stop working and it freezes. They start working again if I press F8 again and the cycle repeats. Type 3: completely blank screen with no backlighting. F8 doesn’t do anything. In all three cases the keyboard lighting responds, the hard drive is spinning, the network connection is active, but the only way to a working desktop is a forced shutdown. I'm new to Lenovo so any help much appreciated. ------------------------Edit 15-12-2013 13:59 I tried updating the video drivers as described by Someotherguy earlier in this thread, but I'm still having the same issue with Sleep mode. The Nvidia driver is now 9.18.13.2768 (was 9.18.13.1269) but the Intel driver didn't change (it's 9.18.10.3272). So maybe mine is a different problem. Any clues anyone?

  • Computer sleep not working

I've got 3 Macs at home:
    2x iMac 2009
    1x MacBook Pro 2010
    All running the latest OS.
On all of them, same problem:
Display sleep (as per system preference settings) works, but computer sleep does not. Seems to be a fairly recent problem on all of them, so I highly suspect a bug coming from a recent MacOS X update.
Tried everything I read about to fix the problem (deteled some pref files, created new account, stopped sharing, removed the internet, disconnected all peripherals...)
Are you having this problem as well?
    Thanks

Well, there's this faq also....weird that it's happening to all three Macs. Do you have them networked together? Is there a USB device all three share?
This is for a Mac that won't sleep.
Here is Apple's KB article HT1776 with their tips.
    Mine follow;
USB devices and hubs often cause Macs to not sleep or wake quickly from sleep (notably HP printers and scanners, HP all in ones, and Cannon scanners). Disconnect all USB except for keyboard and mouse and try. If it sleeps, add one back at a time testing after each one to find the culprit.
If you've set your Mac to receive faxes, it may not be able to sleep. It might also have a damaged preferences file.
If you use your Mac for faxing, open System Preferences. click Print & Fax, click the Faxing tab, and uncheck the Receive Faxes On This Computer box.
If that doesn't work or you've never faxed on your Mac, go to Finder/Hard Drive /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist and com..apple.AutoWake.plist files (if your Mac asks, type your admin. password).
If the latter file isn't present in the folder, go to user name(probably your name)/Library/Preferences, delete the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file, and reboot your Mac.
    Next are user tips……..
Check in System Preferences > Energy Saver is "Wake for network access" checked? If so, uncheck it.
One user reported, " I couldn't make my macbook pro to go to sleep because I had my wireless headphone receiver still plugged in. I unplugged it and then it went to sleep."
Also, if you have an External Western Digital (WD) hard drive and have installed
WDDMService and WDSmartWareD on your Mac, it may not sleep. Fix is to un-install those....you don't need them to use the drive.
"I have had this problem with my IMac G5. It is surprisingly irritating. LaCie's Silverkeeper backup software was the cause. By default it gave itself permission to wake up the computer to check if a backup was needed. Do you have this or a similar program installed which has scheduled activities including wake-up permissions as an option?"
One provided this link, xlr8yourmac.com, to a member, which addresses failure of deep sleep with some users that updated and added new FireWire and USB card.
Also, here is Apple KB article TA2469 about PCI cards and sleep.
After few days of messing around I found out that I had desktop background (wallpaper) set to change every 1 minute.
After unchecking "Change picture..." in system preferences (under Desktop/Screen saver), my powerbook went to sleep all by itself.
"I have a Canon printer(shared) and my imac would not sleep. I opened up printer/fax in system prefs and noticed it said the printer was in use when it was off. Opened up the printer queue and noticed about 7 pending documents. Deleted them all and now it sleeps.
    Check the printer queue!"
One user has had success, after trying all these tips, using an App. called PleaseSleep. I've never used it though.
    Good Luck!  DALE

  • Nas sleep not working

    hello
    I`ve got a Toshiba 2TB Canvio® Home Backup & Share
    Part Number: HDNB120XKEK1
everything is OK, but the drive wakes up often during day and night, I have selected the "sleep when not in use"  feature.
but it keeps waking up, even if the drive is not in use, even if I disconnect ot from the network.
I had to put in on my bedroom, and it's annoying.
    any hint ?
    thanx
    Alexander

I have run into a similar problem here as well. Running a micronet PlatinumNAS and it was working fine in Tiger. Today after upgrading, I cannot access the SMB shares at all. If I attempt to connect thorugh "connect to server" in the finder and type the SMB address, it attempts to connect then fails after a minute stating:
"Connection failed. The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again"
I click OK on the error with no other options and then get this error:
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "It gives my SMB address here" could not be rear or written.
    (Error code -36)"
According to Apple, error -36 is an I/O error. So now I am really confused.
I have attempted to show mounted drives on my desktop as suggested by 127.0.0.1 above in the finder prefs. Nothing doing there. File sharing is on as well, although that should not matter.
In Tiger, in the Finder window I would see the workgroups that I could browse. Now with the shared side bar option, it shows machines in the office I can access, but not the workgroups. I used to access the NAS by going to Network, selecting the workgroup it was in and the picking the NAS. Then the system would ask which drive and ask for the password. Then the drive would mount. Now none of that is even an option.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Energy Saver Display Sleep Not Working

I have a late 2011 MBP with an external 27" Apple display. Was working great under 10.7.
After upgrading to Mountain Lion the monitor will not go into sleep mode regardless of the Energy Saver settings. I can keystroke the monitors to sleep but they won't enter sleep automatically.
I've tried PRAM and SMC reset.
Any ideas? Bug for Apple? Anyone else having this problem? I've found at least one other guy online with a iMac that's having this problem.

So this seems to be working now. No software updates or other changes. The only thing I did different was to lock the energy saver settings. After that it started working.
