Systeme Preference Corruption for All Users!

In one of my user account, I can't get the scroll bars to show!!!
I want in preference-general and select ''Always'' under Show Scroll Bars, but I can't see them in Safari, Mail...
When I close Preference, my ''Always'' selection is gone and it return to '' Automatically based on input device''
Also, issue with Screen Saver. I can select any Apple default screen saver. My iMac always play my iPhoto Library.
I'm suspecting Systeme Preference Corruption in all my users.
In previous post, Frank recommended to boot from recovery disk, go to terminal, rset paasword window and slect ''Reset Home Folder Permissions and ACLs''
This is what I did, exept, it was running after 24 hrs of waiting and I decide to quit. It did the same with all users...
Do you have a solution to this issue?
NOTE: Lions was reinstalled and HD erase. Repair Disk Permission done, Safe boot done.
What do I got left?

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Is it possible to save System preference settings for every user that logins to a Mac OS X?

I work at a school and we have iMacs running Mavericks 10.9 in our environment.  We have them binded to our Windows domain so that way students can use their own login to access the Macs.  I have a number of System preference settings that I would like to take a effect, but I only see that these settings take effect for every user.  So even if I login as the Main administrator account and set settings in System Preferences, such as not allowing the Wifi symbol to show, the next user that logins will still see the wifi symbol because the setting isn't taking effect for their System preferences.  Does anyone know a way to get System Preference settings to take affect for every user that logins? Maybe a script?

Modifying the user template is not supported. You can Google for people who have done it in the past. I would recommend going to official route, if possible. Here are a couple of training documents. I'm sure there is more available though more official channels.

    Hi Arti,
In cProjects the authorizations can be managed either by authorization profile administration by system administrator for General authorizations or by Project specific authorizations for individual cProjects elements by Project owner.
Try the first one and I hope you will get the solution.

  • Does ctrl-alt-shift clear preferences for all users?

On a multi-user computer, does holding ctrl-alt-shift during InDesign launch clear preferences files for all users on that computer, or just the current user?  I have a few multi-user machines that are having issues, which the knowledagebase says is often cured by clearing preferences.
    Thanks guys!

I'm pretty sure higher access superceedes, so you could set up a group with no actual access, just to get the preferences working, then their individual security will dictate what they can do. I haven't tested this fully, but I beleive this is how it will work.<BR>As far as setting the preferences, go into the admin console and right click on the group, then select Preferences. To apply the group preferences to a user, add the user to the group, then right click on the user, select preferences and from the upper left corner, use the drop down to select the active preference, in this case, it will be the group you created and added them to.<BR><BR>HTH

  • One Library for all users on the system - Sharing?

    Hello.
I'm using iTunes 9.0.3 on OS X 10.6.2. On this system, there are TWO users, one for my wife, one for me. I'd like to "merge" the seperate iTunes libraries, so that there's only one shared library for all users.
    How could this be achieved?
Searching the web, I found a writeup on [dougscripts.com by Paul Whitey|http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/sharedlib.php], which basically explains to move ~/Music/iTunes to /Users/Shared/iTunes and making sure that there's an alias in ~/Music pointing to /Users/Shared/iTunes. It also explains, that the ownership of the files & folders is to be changed so, that all users have read & write access. This then looks like this on my system:
    -> http://yfrog.com/5yfileinfowithbothusershap
It works good - both "alex" and "sandra" can work with these files (ie. move them, rename them, change ID3 tags).
    But see those:
    !http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/2183/fileinfowithonlyalexhav.png! !http://img686.imageshack.us/img686/7807/fileinfowithonlysandra4.png!
    --> http://yfrog.com/jufileinfowithonlyalexhavp & http://yfrog.com/j2fileinfowithonlysandra4p
That's from files which sandra or alex have added later on. Only the one who added these files can modify them (which is of course correct, if you have a look at the file permissions).
How would you go about having only ONE iTunes database on the system? Simply putting the iTunes Db on a shared folder doesn't work well, as can be seen above. Always having to fiddle around with the file permissions isn't exactly comfortable…
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Alex

Hm. PowerTunes crashs, when I make it Share my library. I pasted the crash report at http://pbox.ca/13gwy
Since I cannot know how/if would work (because of the crash…), please correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it also just move the files to /Users/Shared and set permissions correctly? Wouldn't I need to keep on running PowerTunes from time to time, or is it "run once and forget" application (if it works)?

  • Setting Default Preferences for All Users in Crystal Reports Server 2008 v1

We are currently looking to set the default preferences in the CMC for all of our users.
I did locate this page Link: [How to set default preferences for all users in Infoview 3.1/CRS 2008]
The first part of the thread did seem promising but I am unable to find the sample .jsp code that people recommended.
I would assume that this scenario is common enough that someone knows a way to set universal preference defaults.
    Thank you

I thought I could just run it too but when I attempt to I get a Windows Script Host error:
    Script: C:\User Prefs.vbs
    Line: 1
    Char: 1
    Error: Expected statement
    Code: 800A0400
    Source: Microsoft VBScript compilation error.
I noticed the first most line seems to be markup for a web interface though I am not familiar with vbs so I may be wrong.  I used the publishing wizard to put the script on the CMC to attempt to run it through the CMC but it still does not work.

  • Want to set Reader option in Internet Preferences for all users that login to the workstation

How can I do this? Is there a config file to edit or a policy object to maintain the perferences settings for all users.  Right now this has to be set manually for each users that would use the system.  Thank you!

Making customisation from the default profile is generally considered poor practice and quite often doesn't work out as planned. (If you're interested in some more information on this, [http://mockbox.net/windows-7/227-customise-windows-7-default-profile.html see here] see here)
This article should help you with developing and deploying your customised Firefox 4 installation (without touching the Windows 7 default user profile):

  • How do I set Premiere preferences for all users - University lab machine?

I am setting up an editing suite for our University which has a "per machine" Creative Cloud licence. It is a PC installation. This machine will be used by a class of students who will log in with their own credentials. I need to set the preferences for Premiere (video output, workspace layout, default drives etc) so that it will be the same for all users logging in since we want a consistent setup for teaching purposes and dont want to have to help each student set up so that it shows correctly on the monitors. Is there a way of saving this setting as the default for every user?
The most important one is the preferences - Playback in order to set up the second monitor.

Hopefully you did manage to do it.

  • Preference Panes - Install for all users, after the fact?

Is there any way to get an already installed Pref Pane to install for all other users once it has been installed for the main account? I am hoping for a way that doesn't require uninstalling the current Pref Pane and reinstalling, some have settings I don;t wan't to lose for the main account.

    Thanks for the reply.
The app (Bamboo Dock) has installed in the root applications folder. When I'm logged in as the administrator I can see the proper icon in the apps folder and run it. however, when I log on as my son I can see the app but the icon is the default icon with the A and the pencil on and the app won't run.
I didn't have a choice where to install and the app did not ask me if I wanted to install for all users.
I was wondering if I could run the installer app from the terminal with sudo, then I would be giving the installer app the authority to write the receipt? I don't know if this would work or how to do it if it would.

  • HELP needed on Remote Management set to allow access for all users

my mac mini snow leopard server runs in a data center and i use screen sharing to interact with it. i played with the sharing settings remotely yesterday and changed "allow access for" to all users. i was disconnected immediately and i couldn't logon again. i have no luck changing to other users. i don't want to make a special trip to the center to change it back to whatever it used to be. i can still use afp to connect but the screen sharing option is no longer available. what does "allow access for all users" mean anyway?
    thanks!

As its name implies, allow access for all should allow any valid user account to access the server. I'm not sure why it's no longer working. It almost sounds like the ARDAgent crashed.
Either way there's a command-line interface to the ARD preferences:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/ki ckstart
man kickstart discusses the options, including examples of how to enable access for specific users.

  • Mounting drives on the desktop for all users

    Hi
Is there a way of mounting drives ( like USB pens) on the desktop for all users please?
It's a causing a lot of confusion here... you think the USB drives aren't working when you can't see them being mounted in front of you.
I do realise you can set this in Finder/Preferences but I wondered if there were a way of just making it the default for any user that logs in ( whether locally or to the domain).
    Thanks for your assistance.

    Thanks for your help Barney.
Hmmmm....why would anyone disable this basic thing?
Here's a reason. I don't use the Desktop, so why would I want the drives to pop up on my desktop.
They appear in my Sidebar in any Finder window.
That's why I turned it off on my system. You'd have to ask the 1000 users why they turned it off.
However, I'm not sure I understand what you want. If you mount a usb drive on your system, and share it out over the network, it is not a Hard Drive on any network user's desktop. It is a network share.

  • Rosetta for all users

How do I set an app to run in Rosetta for all users of a system?

I don't think that's possible. when you check the box to run an app in rosetta the change affects your account only. that info is recorded locally in your home directory in the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
The only way to make the change affect all users would be to push this file to the corresponding locations in home directories of all users. If you want the change to affect all future users as well you'd have to also add this file to the User template in /System/Library. but even if you do all that individual users will be able to easily overwrite those settings if they want to.

  • Pin shortcuts to Taskbar and Start Menu for all users in Windows 7

How can i Pin shortcuts to Taskbar and Start Menu for All Users in Windows 7? Office 2007 Word, Excel and Outlook.

    There are a few ways...
You can configure a default profile which will give you the ability to setup the Start Menu as you want it with the items pinned how you like.  However, in my experience customizations done to the Taskbar are not maintained in a default profile.
So, one way to get around that would be to create a script and use the "Active Setup" hooks that are built into Windows 7 to achieve the desired results.
    If you combine this script...
    http://blogs.technet.com/deploymentguys/archive/2009/04/08/pin-items-to-the-start-menu-or-windows-7-taskbar-via-script.aspx
    With Active Setup...
    http://www.visualbasicscript.com/Active-Setup-Examples-m67461.aspx
You can get the results you want to get...
Pinned items on the Taskbar have two components, one is in the file system and the other is in the registry.  You could also use GPO Preferences to add both components to a new profile and therby get similar results.  I played around with this method a little and did get it to work also.

  • How do I set Firefox to be usable for all users on one computer?

How do I set Firefox to be usable for all users on one computer?

I would think the about:config entries discussed are ex-factory set to values each user has to change individually, after the installation has run its course. The solution could be to have patched files ready to install post factum:
