T400 LED screen uneven lighting

Overall i am very impressed with my new t400, however my screen has a dimmer portion in the right side.  It is mainly the bottom half of the very rightside (1/2 cm),  it is slight but noticeable.  i think there may be a LED that is defective on that side.  Is there anyway i can get some sort of compensation for the defect.
I would send it back, but i always hear stories of laptops coming back with more problems or scratches and other defects.
If i can't get some sort of credit i would rather just keep it.
has anyone been successful in getting credit from lenovo?
(or can any of the admin's give insight)

I dont know why has this become a trend with the T400s. I received a bad screen, the replacement screen was also bad. I'm returning the machine to lenovo if i'm not being compensated. Did you talk to the CS? What did they say?

  • Question: T400 LED Screen Resolution Limited to WXGA?

Lenovo's website (US) is now only showing the following screen options for the T400:
14.1 WXGA TFT, w/ CCFL Backlight, Camera
    14.1 WXGA+ TFT, w/ CCFL Backlight, Camera [add $30.00]
14.1 WXGA TFT, w/ LED Backlight, Camera [add $50.00]
14.1 WXGA TFT High Nit, w/ LED Backlight [add $120.00]
14.1 WXGA TFT High Nit, w/ LED Backlight, Camera [add $150.00]
Does anyone know why the LED screen is limited to WXGA and not WXGA+?
I'm looking to replace my T40p, and I'm not willing to go down in screen resolution.

There are 14.1 WXGA+ LED models available right now. Check the ThinkPad Reference (tabook) and search. That option is just apparently not available in CTO (Custom To Order) systems from the Lenovo Store at the moment.
This brings up the question: How can you order a pre-configured ThinkPad like those listed in tabook? Do you have to buy from a reseller? Why can't you order one from the online Lenovo Store? (Maybe you can, but it's not obvious to me how to do it, at least for the U.S. online store...)

  • T400 LED screen flickeringly

    i bought T400 2764 CTO one year ago just because "thinkpad" name and it strong body and reliable quality;
in the june, just pass one year warrantee period, it screen start flickeringly--i did change adapter, switch the graphical card to internal or ATI again and again, never change the situation, really driving me go crazy, i also connected with desk TFT monitor, it screen showed normal

this is a routine check, i just want to make sure it is your hardware that is having the problem and not some peripheral parts that is giving the problem.
In any case, i think it is a LCD related issue. Do you have warranty still? Flickering issue is related to the LED backlight that is used in your LCD.

  • T400 LED beside ultrabay lights up during sleep?

After i put the laptop to sleep, and moved it around for a while, the LED beside the ultrabay will light up. I have no idea what it is supposed to indicate, but it doesn't light up if i just leave it sitting. I noticed this weird phenominon after upgrading to BIOS 2.03. I downgraded back to v1.15 but the problem remains, so i'm not sure what is the culprit.
And for some reason the power consumption on standby isn't as low as before, as i noticed a significant decrease in battery life after leaving it in sleep mode for about an hour. The half moon LED was on throughout, so it shouldn't have woken up halfway.
    Laptop specs: 2768-AA6, Vista x64.
Anyone having the same experience? What is the side LED supposed to indicate if it is on during sleep?

Hello dD-2765, welcome to Lenovo forums!
Please check in bios if Wake-on-Lan or anything else is deaktivated.
If you use a dock, then undock it and check if the problem occurs now.
Then check devices in device manager, if some device, wlan, modem or anything else, has checkbox and "device cant wake up windows" is checked.
Also start XP/Vista search, then type in cmd and type: powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
Is there a list of devices, that can wake up windows?
Please check if windows hybrid sleep is deaktivated.
May be interesting for the other members here.
"On Vista, you need to go into Power Options (shortest way is by clicking on your tray battery icon and then "More power options", or you can find it in Control Panel). Once you're in Power Options, find which Power Plan you currently have selected and then right under that plan's name click on
"Change plan settings" then "Change advanced power settings". From
there it will list a tree with the different power plan properties in
    it.
You'll find the option for hybrid sleep under "Sleep" > "Allow hybrid sleep"." disable it.

  • T400 question: get 2765T6U or pay more for LED screen & misc

    Hello,
I'm planning to buy the T400 but got a quick question for you guys. I found the T400 2765T6U at Provantage for about $1200.
Unfortunately, this model only comes with a CCFL screen and a few missing features (multiple card reader for example). I then went to Lenovo and configured the Enhanced T400 model with the features I wanted and ended up with $1400 (after a 10% off coupon).
Do you guys think it's worth it paying $200 for the LED screen, a slightly faster CPU, a bigger HD (though slower), and a 7-1 reader? All the other features are exactly the same as the 2765T6U.
    Thanks in advance!!

You could try this model: 2765-33U
    http://www.provantage.com/lenovo-276533u~7LENO10Y.htm
It is like the 2765-T6U but it has LED WXGA+ screen and 9 cell battery.
The only problem is that it is a "special order" so you may have to wait longer for it to ship (as they do not have it ready in inventory).
Try looking at the tabook.pdf for more models. To get tabook, just google "tabook" and download the .pdf from the IBM website.

  • T400 LCD screen black after replecement

    History - T400 (2767-31U), Win 7.
LCD screen broken due to a drop. Laptop still worked with an external monitor via VGA slot and I ordered a replacement LCD.
The replacement finally (used-off ebay) arrived and I followed the HMM manual and replaced the LCD. But it still does not work. I can continue to use the ext monitor without any issues. The replacement LCD was the full assembly not just the LCD screen.
    Here is what I noticed:
    1. When booting up, I see the Thinkpad logo very very faintly before it goes fully black again.
    2. All the LCD panel lights work fine - Wireless, BT, HDD, Battery, Power etc etc including the reading light.
    3. The laptop recognizes when I open and close the lid and switches on the ext monitor accordingly.
Here is what I did (I followed the HMM to the detail):
    4. When I replaced the LCD, I noticed that the original LCD had 2 black wires insulated at the ends originating from the bottom left area of the LCD that were not actually plugged into any area of the MB. I did the same on the replacement LCD and left them as it is. I don't even know what these are.
    5. I connected the other 3 wires(white, grey and black) and the main connector as the original LCD/HMM.
    6. I uninstalled the display drivers and restarted and Win 7 automatically installed the drivers again.
    7. The Most important part - The original LCD when powered on, DID have backlight showing me the mangled area of the screen so I know it worked before replacement.
I have read quite a bit of posts regarding T400 black screen issues, pointing me towards a faulty MB, blown fuse or faulty inverter. I know the replacement is an exact replica of the original LCD.
Could it be that I didn't connect the wires correctly to their respective slots on the MB?
Any inputs would be highly appreciated.
    Edit:
    Solved!

    Welcome to the forum!
Do I understand correctly that you bought a complete new LCD Assembly? Do you have proof from the seller that it was working properly before you bought it?
Can you see a picture if you use a torchlight over the panel?
A faint dark picture could be a defective LCD cable, inverter/LED card or a defective LCD backlight. Since you see a picture I would rule out a motherboard fuse problem.

  • Mid 2010 MacBook pro took a keyboard spill.  It still works but display is sooo dark - like no backlight.  I think this is an LED screen.  Does anyone know the fix for this?

Hi all...  My mid 2010 MacBook Pro took a keyboard spill.  It still works but the display is very very dark.  A faint image can only be seen at an angle in very bright light.  I think this model has an LED screen.  Can anyone please tell me what the fix for this is?  Thank you sooooo much!

    Spill Cleaning
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).

  • T400 LED LCD (Samsung) buzzing when lowering brightness

    Hi,
my LCD screen was recently replaced.
Just now, when lowering the display brightness, starting at 2 below max, my Samsung LED Screen omits a buzzing noise. It gets louder the more i lower the brightness. It is only really audible when i listen to it, so it is not that disturbing, however i would like to know if this is normal behavior?
I know from LCD TVs that some buzzing coming from the backlight inverter is normal, however, i am pretty sure my old LG screen was dead silent - even on lowest brightness.
Is my inverter going downhill or is it normal? Would appreciate other experiences. If someone would be so kind and check, put your ear to the left display hinge and lower brightness to 0.
    Thanks.
    Thinkpad T400 (Windows 7 Ultimate x64)

Guess i will have a service center to listen to it then. Since i do not use the lowest settings at all usually, it does not bother me that much. But if this indicates that the inverter may at one point break i might as well have this fixed.

  • Eye Strain induced by LED screens

I am an eye doctor in australia and have encountered an unusual amount of computer induced eye strain. What have others done to try and minimise this problem?
There seems to be a big issue with the intense light of LED screens. Has anyone tried one of the new Benq no flicker screens in reading mode?

I was having a lot of problems with my iMac and could only work on it for very short periods without my eyes hurting. It got to the point where I was going to sell it. I changed the colour temperature in Display settings from 6500 to 5250. The picture looked a bit yellow at first, but I soon got used to it and it is now very much better.
One possible explanation is that white LEDs have a very different spectrum to normal white light (e.g daylight). They are usually made by coating a blue LED with a phosphor that converts some of the blue light to yellow. The combination looks white but the spectrum has an enormous spike in the blue. It is possible that this is more tiring for our eyes.
The spectrum is shown in this article:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light-emitting_diode#Phosphor-based_LEDs
I can't detect any flicker with the iMac screen. One way to test for flicker is to wave your hand rapidly in front of the screen. You get a "strobe" effect if it is flickering. Another way is to look at the screen through a digital camera (e.g. iPhone). Any flicker will tend to show up as stripes.

  • Screen unevenness on iMac Core Duo 20. What to do?

    Hi Guys,
I got my first iMac Core Duo 20 last Thursday. Everything is beautiful except the screen, which had pretty bad screen unevenness at the two bottom corners. I took it back today and exchanged it for a new one. But it seems this new one is even worse. It's so bad that when I try to play a widescreen video, the entire bottom black bar appears to be light grey.
I am now a little afraid to get another 20 and experience the same problem. Is the 17 inch iMac better in this regard? My girlfriend's iMac G5 20 doesn't have this problem at all. Is this maybe just a bad batch I ran into? I know some uneveness is unavoidable on consumer LCD panels but what I saw on these two iMacs were just too impossible to live with. iMac Core Duo 20 owners, what are your experiences?
    Thank you all in advance!

It is under warrantee, take it back until you get what you have paid for. Have them test a new one in the store before you take it home.
BTW, mine has worked great from day one!

There is a hardware problem.  Whether it's worth it to you to have no working phone for 2 months until you can update vs paying for replacement/repair now is a question only you can answer.

  • IMAC connected to Mbox 2 - USB LED doesn't light up - Please help!

Pretty new to all of this. I just bought a new IMAC intel core duo and Mbox 2. I connected the Mbox 2 to the USB port and the LED didn't light up.. I disconnected it and tried again...same thing. I restarted the IMAC and connected the Mbox 2 again...still nothing. I went to system preferences and clicked on the Mbox 2 and it said "You cannot open digidesign Mbox 2 preferences pane on this computer. Contact the developerof this software for a newer version"....needless to say I'm lost now. Can someone point me in the right direction???

Try to use another cable and check if the internet led will light up. Try connecting the modem to the Ethernet ports as well for isolation. If you will get the same thing, do a hard reset on the router – push and hold the reset button on the router using a pin or a paper clip for 30 seconds then power the router off for another 30 seconds. Check the lights then. You can also do a loopback test – connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the internet port and the other end to any of the Ethernet ports. Check then if both ports will light up. If the internet led will still not light up then it’s possible that the hardware is defective.

It looks like sync but nothing is happening. The sync doesn't stop by itself. Is there anybody to solve this problem? In previous versions never a problem.

I have exactly the same issues with my new 80G iPOD. I have found that when connecting to my PC, the iPOD does not start iTUNES 7. This can be resolved by stopping the iPOD Service in Computer Management, connecting the iPOD and then starting it again. Then when you start iTUNES it finds the iPOD. - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
Seems like a stupid long-winded way to do things, but at least you can get some stuff on to your iPOD.
As far as using Restore goes - I just get the restoring iPOD message you described, which it blatantly isn't :((
