T400 Ultrabay device storage?

Hello there. I recently picked up a T400(2765-T6U), and it's been a great system. I'm in the process of planning upgrades for it, and have run into a bit of a snag.
I'm pretty mobile with this system, and foresee situaitons where I need massive amounts of HDD space as well as the ability to use an optical drive. I plan on purchasing two 500GB HDDs, using one in the main bay and the other in the Ultrabay. This plus an external I'll be using should meet my space requirements. However, I also need to be able to swap out to my current optical drive whenever I need it. This presents problems as to how to store the extra Ultrabay device whenever I'm out and about.
Firstly, it doesn't look like the hard drive enclosure is very secure, and the drive itself is only held in place by a lever of some sort. Am I right to assume I can place the drive in a caddy like the main drive to make it more secure?
Also, is there a external case or something similar I can place one of these drives in so it's not rattling around in my notebook bag?

I just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS6.  In the process, I ran into a problem and had to restore factory settings.  After syncing the phone, I see that 218 apps need to be updated. When selecting "update all," it says "Cannot Download.  There is not enough available local storage to download these items.  You can manage your local device storage usage in Settings."
How can this be the case when I haven't changed any apps from before updrading to iOS6, and I don't have any music yet on the phone?  Why is it telling me there is not enough local space?

    Hi RileyAvaCadenRiver,
If you recently updated your iPhone to iOS7, you will need to update iTunes on your computer to iTunes 11.1 or newer for it to correctly recognize the iPhone. You may find the following link helpful:

  • Device Storage Almost Full

Hi. I've had a Blackberry Z30, current OS 10.2.1.3062, since late April 2014. In the last couple of days I've had notifications about the "Device Storage Almost Full".
I've done a complete security wipe to try to resolve this issue (as advised on another forum). I've tried a Factory reset (as advised on another forum - a Google search reveals lots of fellow BB owners with an identical issue, but so far no actual explanations as to what's happening, or solutions that work for me!). I have NO documents, videos, music, or any other downloaded files saved on my phone, and minimal apps too. The largest app is The Sims FreePlay - 785.4, and total storage listed for apps is 1.84Gb
Each time, I reinstall fewer and fewer apps, yet over an hour or more, I can actually look at the Device Monitor periodically and watch the Storage being filled up with more and more 'System' files, whatever these may be! If I look at the Device Monitor, Memory, System, it shows that during the night, when I am in 'Bedside Mode' in the last two days it has downloaded 9.5Gb of data - this drops to almost nothing during the day when I'm actually USING the phone. However, this evening, I recorded the following stats, with no corresponding download of data over wi-fi during the same period, so I'm not sure if these two things are actually related!
    The stats were:
18:28 - Just backed up the phone, not being actively used by me, Wi-fi switched off for test purposes, mobile network still connected
    Storage showed at 18:28: System - 1.77Gb, Apps - 1.83Gb, User - 135Mb, Free - 9.45Gb
18:31 - Wi-fi turned on, played Sims FreePlay for 30 minutes
    19:04 - Device Monitor checked
    Storage showed at 19:04: System - 3.58Gb
19:04-19:24 - Switched to Bedside Mode for test purposes
    Storage showed at 19:24: System - 8.63Gb
19:25-19:30 - Phone not being actively used
    Storage showed at 19:30: System - 9.79Gb
19:31 - Received notification "Device storage almost full"
    Storage showed: System - 10.12Gb
    Currently at System 10.97Gb, User - 134Mb, Apps - 1.84Gb, Free 255Mb
This seems to be the maximum amount of space System can take up. Once it reaches this level, it remains static and does not increase any more. If I'm lucky, some of the random things I've been trying manage to actually clear it (or it appears so - may just be coincidence!), until the next time. When it starts piling on the pounds faster than a Weight Watcher at an all you can eat buffet (i.e. ME !)
I've owned SimsFreePlay for several months and my children, as well as myself, have been using it regularly. This week is the first time I've seen this issue, so I'm not sure if the game can be blamed!
Sometimes, I can do a restart by holding the power button and it clears out the excess System data, but not always (more often doesn't help than does). Once, I managed to clear out the excess by 'Resetting Sync Relationships' in BBLink (although that could just have been coincidental as it hasn't worked any time since!). I've tried 'rebooting' through holding down the higher and lower volume buttons simultaneously, as someone advised someone else on another forum when I Googled the issue.
I've tried browsing the folders and files via the USB connection to the PC to clear out any other rogue data that may be filling it up. I have no Android apps side-loaded since the first security wipe. Once, I actually did nothing (was just poised, about to do another reluctant wipe and restore of the OS, so was glad I saved myself the bother!) and it cleared itself out spontaneously!
Would dearly LOVE it if someone with more nous than myself can point me in a direction I haven't yet tried please The phone, once it reaches it's maximum bloat, becomes completely unusable - hub can't download even a single email or text, or even display ones I have stored there. Many of the apps can't even start and sometimes even Device Monitor is unable to load too so I can see what's going on!! I'm well and truly stuck for ideas now, so thank you for any suggestions you may have that might help

Hello and thanks for your detailed iinfo.
So...let me summarize this: during the day, under normal use (WiFi OFF and data service ON) the phone`s storage is staying the same. Then you switch WiFi ON and start playing the SIM game and according to your time line, in aprox 60 min, the phone runs out of storage....
Have you tryied to take a look at your "Device Monitor" > "Storage" before the phone becomes unusable, just to see what`s eating up your storage space?

  • Any ideas if Apple TV 3 will support full HD 1080p and if it will have on device storage?

Any ideas if the enxt gen of Apple TV will support full HD 1080p and if it will have on device storage like the first generation?

If those features are important to you, many have setup a Mac Mini with Equinux MediaCentral, or similar device as their media center.   There are probably other similar software as well.

  • AIR 3.7 app won't install on Transformer Infinity, gives "device storage full" error

I just upgraded to AIR 3.7 and have found my AIR for Android app, published from the Flash CS6 IDE, will no longer install on my Asus Transformer Infinity. Both Flash and the Asus Sync software report an installation error and that the device storage is full. If I transfer the APK onto my tablet from Windows and then try to install the APK directly on the Transformer it tries to install and then reports the installation failed. This issue occurs from multiple computers. Reverting to AIR 3.5 causes the app to work again. My storage is not full; I have 10 gigabytes free. USB debugging and installation of non-market apps are enabled.
Does anyone know what might be the cause? The same app compiled with AIR 3.7 does work on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.

no, i try to install air app on desktop that was build month ago, and was succefully installed previously
but now, said that there is a problem, and i need to send request to this app developer (me)
problem was with certification, it was expired, generate new one, compile app, and it installed
    sry for bad english

After upgrading my Z10 to OS 10.1 the storage device shows that other data with 11.9 GB with no reason, i didn't download alot of apps or games, only the default apps with couple of other apps, the Device is so slow and i have to restart the device more than three times in the last 2 hours.

    Hello demo501,
    Welcome to the forums.
When you are looking at your device storage do you see a button that says "Device Storage Details" ?
As far as I know that is the button you have to press to determine if you have been hit by the Other Data Gnome.
Do you have any information to offer as a solution to get rid of it perminantly without wiping your phone?  Sick of wiping this phone I got better things to do than baby sit my SmartPhone.
I am astounded at the inability of the BlackBerry community to address this.  I am besides myself that BlackBerry corporation hasn't provided adequate documentation about this issue.

trying to update apps on iphone and getting error message, there is not enough available local storage to download these items. you can manage your local device storage usage in settings. What am I to do?

The storage you purchased is in the cloud, and doesn't do anything with your pad.  Your problem is simply that you have too much content on your pad.   Go to settings, general, usage, and it will show you how much space you have avaliable on your pad.  If you let the screen sit for a while, all the apps will be displayed, and you can see how much stuff you have associated with each.
You have to no option but to delete some of the content on your pad.  Videos, comics, pitcures and some music files use a lot of space.   The cloud allows you to leave stuff there, so you can get it when you need it.

  • How do I manage local device storage in Settings?  I get a message that I do not have enough local storage when attempting to update Apps, and need to manage local storage.

How do I manage local device storage in settings?  I know how to get into Settings, of course, but not how to proceed beyond that.  Thanks.

Go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage and check to see how much storage you have used.
If you are deleting apps and other content, something about that message doesn't seem right to me. What are you trying to do when you get this message? Take photos? Shoot a video?
Try quitting the camera app completely and restart the iPad. See if the message goes away.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Device Storage on Z10

The Built In Device Storage on my Z10 was full and I got a number of warning messages about this. Of the 16GB of storage 14.7GB is now used up after deleting a quite a number of apps that I had purchased on Blackberry World. Of the portion that is now used, 11.09GB of that is for System Files, which is the vast majority of the internal storage. I have 30GB Media Card on my phone of which only 1.4GB of that is used. What I would like to know is: Is it possible to move some of those system files to the Media card, or alternately, would it be possible to store new apps on the Madia card so as to free the internal card which is lmost full?
If either or both is possible can someone give me a step by step on how this can be done? I have already had to delete some apps which I considered important.
Also, is there a way in which we could download and store apps directely to the media card, which, I believe is being wasted as it is storing less than 5% of its capacity.

  • Issues: Browser Not Working / Device Storage Almost Full - Not Apps / Can Not Update.

    Hello there.
I am having three main issued with my BlackBerry Q5 at the moment.
Firstly, I click on the icon for my Browser and all that I can see is the URL box and the two buttons either side, however none of them are functional. This is an issue that has occurred overnight - yesterday the browser was fully functional.
Secondly and thirdly, I have been trying to install a software update and I keep receiving the error message that 'Device Storage is Almost Full' which interrupts the download. I have tried deleting applications and anything else that I can find, however it is having no effect upon my storage space: 6.2mb is in use under the name 'other data' - as I earlier said, this is not my applications, so any idea what this could be referring to?
    Many thanks in advance!!
    Emily.

I am having the same problem it is nothing short of absolute ridiculousness! 2.54 Gb are not enough for a 978 Mb of download? (trying to download version 10.3.1.1565).
The browser is using up 140Mb which are still there even after deleting every history, bookmarks, cache and what not. I even deleted any content possible leaving 31 Mb of user files. Please explain how can I possibly download the new update if the system is already using 2.09 Gb. Ridiculous!

Even though you have plenty of available storage, the issues you're having may be related to a corrupt application. I recommend putting your device into Safe Mode (http://vz.to/UujJtt) for a period. I always do my Rentals with the itunes program on the computer.
Make rental from itunes store. It will show in movies under library, DO NOT click to play it. Plug in the device to the computer. Click the name of the device on left. Click on movies. There is an  option to copy to the device. Sync. obviously you still need space on ipad to put rental but you can have it take computers hard drive space until you need it.

  • Apple Device Storage Misrepresentation

i recently received as a Christmas gift a fifth generation late 2006 model ipod which Apple represents as having an 80gb storage yet on using such i note that the generic capacity is onlhy 74.3gb. Where has the other 5.7gbs gone. The loss in capacity is almost the equivalent of an Ipod nano 6gb device. has anyone else had a problem of the like.

This is the same with every hard drive.
    See if this helps;
"One more thing about iPod disk size
In iPod's About menu, the hard disk size is reported as slightly less than the technical specifications for the iPod. The same is true if you connect iPod to your computer in disk mode look at the info or properties window for the disk.
Why the difference? Most hard disk manufacturers measure disk size this way: 1 MB = 1 million bytes (1000 * 1000). A 4 GB disk, therefore, is one that holds 4 billion bytes. Computers, including Windows computers, Macintosh computers and iPod, measure disk size this way: 1 MB = 1 048 576 bytes (1024 * 1024). The difference in these two calculations is what causes the drive to appear as 3.7 GB on a computer, but actually be a 4 billion byte disk."

  • T400 Ultrabay Battery Issue

I just ordered and received a new Lenovo-branded Ultrabay slide-in battery for a T400.  It fits perfectly (appears to) but shows an error in the battery display and cannot even read the part number.

    What I received was an FRU 51J0508 (10.8V, 2.9AH, 32WH).
Does anyone know if this is likely just a bad battery, or an incompatible battery?

  • Part # for T400 ultrabay battery, and where to buy?

The Lenovo Web site does not seem to sell an UltraBay battery that's compatible with the T400. Or maybe it's compatible with one of them, and the T400 isn't listed for some reason.
What is the part number for the UltraBay battery that works with the T400? If it's not sold by Lenovo, why not, and where can I get one?
And is it true that the UltraBay batteries drain completely before the main battery is used so they only last a few months? If so, will this problem be fixed?

To get the part number for the UltraBay battery, check the T400 accessories page in tabook
Yes, the UltraBay battery drains first.  It's working as designed and not broken, so there's nothing to fix.
