  • Realtek AC97 Audio CutOff (ALC655)!

    Hi,
After a month from replacing my mainboard (old board was fried during system shutdown along with PSU), I am starting to experience these weird problems...
I use the onboard AC97 codec on my MSI 865PE Neo2 mainboard which is manufactured by Realtek and reported by the driver as an ALC655 codec...
It all started a week ago when I was playing Far Cry when the all sounds suddenly went dead  , I simply exited Far Cry and re-opened it and it was fixed for a while when it went dead once more, so I exited and tried to run WinAmp and listen to my MP3s and again problem was fixed...
But I can't remember exactly when, maybe 2-3 days ago when the sounds starting going dead after a few seconds or a few minutes in ALL DirectX games (RedAlert 2, Toy Story 2 , Generals, Far Cry...everything!), even when running WinAmp, it would suddenly stop playing, and clicking on Play again did absolutely nothing! (does the same with WMP), even MS-DOS based games (ex: RedAlert 1) lose sound, Yet when I logoff Windows XP and logon again, it works once more but cuts off again after a few seconds.) !!
    Here's what I've tried:
    1. Re-install DirectX 9.0c
    2. Re-install Realtek AC97 Audio drivers (original one on mainboard CD)
    3. Decreased Sound Acceleration to in DXDIAG
    4. Did a fresh install of XP on another partition with just system drivers...
--> And still the same problem !
    Note:
    1. Even when the sound is dead, when I logoff, Windows XP is magically able to play the logging off sound ! But when I re-logon and start (eg: Far Cry), the sound is immediately cut off after a few seconds !
    2. If I continue to play even after the sound is dead, I can occasionally hear the sound suddenly popping back on for just a fraction of a second playing sounds that were supposed to be played when it cut off..., but it doesn't keep that way and pops dead again..
Any suggestions ?? Any help will be really appreciated...

    Hey guys !!
--> I just finished downloading this file from MSI LiveMonitor !
    >>>> Here's what I've done just now:
--> I removed Realtek AC97 Audio from Windows Device Manager...
--> Downloaded Realtek 5.10.0.5750 driver from MSI LiveUpdate....
    --> Installed Driver...
--> It asked for a reboot but I refused...
--> Running my whole MP3 collection in WinAmp!.. Seems that the problem's fixed !!
-> No sound cutting whatsoever till now !! Been playing for 20 min. non-stop...

  • Audio: Realtek AC97? Audigy?? Catalina??? Please discuss.

I have an MSI K8T Neo FiS2R (MS-6702) motherboard and I tried using the onboard audio chip - Realtek AC'97. I have the latest motherboard BIOS and I installed the latest Windows drivers for Realtek audio.
    I noticed the following problems:
-It stutters VERY badly in games whenever there is a slight CPU hit.
-CD audio just doesn't work at all.
Is it just me or does everyone have these problems with the Realtek AC97?? I'm using Win98 SE so maybe that's part of it.
For now I shut it off in the BIOS and switched to my antique Soundblaster Live! Value card. Despite DestructiveLabs taking a big dump in the registry with the crappy drivers, it sounds much better.
BTW, if anyone has the Turtle Beach Catalina card, please let us know how well it works. I heard it has 8-channel 7.1 support on the cheap ($45), but it doesn't have builtin DSP which could put a burden on the CPU and slow down games.
Is Audigy really worth it? I heard Audigy 2 Platinum is like $170 now. Ouch! And rumor has it that the Audigy drivers cause a lot of issues.

The Catalina is a very nice card based on VIA's Envy24 chip - but it does not have hardware acceleration for 3D audio.  For hardware 3D audio, the only viable cards are the Audigy2 series (the Audigy1 had noise problems, the Live! don't always get along with VIA based systems).
Though I'm happy with my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, there aren't going to be any new drivers released for it as the chip it uses is no longer in production.

  • Will Realtek AC97 create proble

    HI
I am considering purchasing either the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, or the Audigy 2 ZS Gamer internal sound cards. I have an Intel Pentium 4 computer which came with the realtek built in sound chip on a Bit IS7-E2 motherboard. The operating system is Windows XP Pro with SP2.
I have read that I need to disable the Realtek through bios. I have been unable to find any settings to let me do this when I go into bios set up.
My computer came with an Intel Pentium 4 processor (3GHZ), and Gig of memory, and a 60 gig hard dri've. There is also a feature called called hyper threading.
Will I be able to have either of the above sound cards installed without too much difficulty. I would appreciate any advice.
    Thanks
    Aron

Thanks for the information. I found the "onChip Audio Controller" buried in integrated peripherals/OnChip Pci Device/OnChip Audio controller.
Once I disable the audio controller, is it necessary to remove all of the other related items such as Audio codecs, Legacy audio drivers, Realtek ac97 audio, usb audio device? I found these in system/device manager/sound vidio and game controllers.
Also, I read a user review saying that hyper threading caused problems with his sound card. Is this an area of concern?
    Thanks again for your assistance.

  • Inspire T7900 and realtek AC97 subwoofer problems

    Hi everyone,
I am not sure if anyone had the same problem, I recently purchased a set of 7.1 T7900 and I have a Realtek AC97 on board card.
The subwoofer works for some time then stop, then it goes again. I tried all the configuration possible, I updated the drivers. I even tried another computer (unfortunately another realtek for laptop). I swapped cables, I used another cable.
I can't figure out what makes it stop (or working).
Sometimes it works fine other time just refuse to work. All the other speakers are working fine. Just the sub.
I am not quite sure if is the sound board or a faulty subwoofer.
I tried everything but i still cannot link why it does this.
If anyone can help or have a suggestion it'll be appreciate!
    thanks
    crix

try a computer with a sound blaster or something .. but from what your saying it could be a faulty woofer .. go to the service and let them check it.. it cant hurt

  • Windows 8 and Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC

    Hi!
I hava a Toshiba L650 - 107 PSKI JE and I am having a problem with the my wireless network adapter on windows 8.
My network adapter is Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC and works fine on windows 7. Two days ago I formatted my hard drive and install windows 8. The problem is that for much drivers I keep installing, The wireless keep turned off. There's no way I can move the slide from off to on.
I already tried a lot of drivers from toshiba and from realtek but doesn't work.
I went to see the Network Connections (Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections) and the Ethernet is fine, I connect a cable and it is fine, but wi-fi says "Not connected".
How do I solve this problem?

    Satellite L650-107 (PSK1JE-00P003EP)
    Downloads here.
A computer from Portugal? (Specifications attached.)
This driver should work on Windows 8.
       Realtek Wireless LAN Driver
But your problems may be more fundamental. Prior to loading Toshiba-specific programs, you probably need to install something like this.
Toshiba System Driver - Windows 8 beta
And for the function keys to work, you'll need still another Toshiba utility.

  • Asus A8N-E onboard Realtek AC97 and Creative Inspire P5800's

I am attempting to connect some creative inspire p5800 speakers to the realtek AC97 audio on my A8N-E. But when I run the connector sensing it senses the jack i have plugged into the lime/green socket as stereo line in. In the speaker configuration the lime/green socket is identified as Front speaker out. The jack at the other end of the lead is plugged into the correct socket on the subwoofer. The rear and center speakers work fine.Any ideas would be greatly appreciatedThanks

well there jason, since you asked, there are some of us who have the P7800 where there are four plugs on the side of the speakers and only three plugs on the computer side with asus mother board needing four. The only way around it is to disconnect the grey plug which is the bass and side speakers and bootleg to the bass which isn't how it is supposed to work.

  • MOVED: Realtek AC97 STRANGE problem..

This topic has been moved to AMD64 nVidia Based board.
    Realtek AC97 STRANGE problem..

Yes. Everything seems okay. Realtek AC97 Sound is chosen everywhere, and everything seems perfect.
There is just no sound. Not even a "Click" when i turn mute on and off. Nothing at all..
When i look at the inputs on my board, i can see red light in the optical input, so i guess that the onboard sound is not broken.. :S
Im not using optical, but the normal "Green" input..

  • Realtek AC97: accelerated speed of playback

    Hi,
I have an old computer with Windows XP and very fresh Arch Linux in dualboot. Everything works fine, but sound card plays sounds, in both OS, with accelerated speed. Playback of music, or any other system sound, are maybe two times faster, than normal.
Thanks for your advices. I hope that is not a HW problem with soundcard.
    Configuration of PC
    MOTHERBOARD: MSI MS-6566E 1.0
    CPU: Intel Celeron 2.20 GHz
    SOUND: Realtek AC'97 Audio
    RAM: DDR 1536 MB
    Thank you. J.

OK, so you use Audacious. Start with switching output device to "hw:0" instead of "default" to ensure that we are working directly with hardware.
This probably isn't the case, but maybe your 44kHz files are played back at 48kHz without resampling. Once you switch to "hw:0", hw_params should definitely show "rate: 44100" when playing such files (or the card may refuse to play them at all if it's 48kHz-only).
It's possible that the card is stuck at higher sample rate (probably 96kHz) than software tells it to use. Enable "resample" effect plugin and tell it to output at 96kHz (or 48kHz as well, who knows what will happen).
Maybe the card thinks it's being fed 4- or 6-channel signal and sends part of samples to some phantom channels. Try changing output to "surround40" or "surround51".
Try 16 or 24 bit output format, IIRC AC97 is limited to 20 bits anyway.
Finally, there is a "speed and pitch" plugin; set both to 0.5 and all will be good, at least for Audacious

  • 64-bit Realtek AC97 Audio Driver

    Hi all,
People from Realtek have just sent me an e-mail with 64-bit Windows XP drivers for their AC97 Audio Codec. The file is 153 KiB in size and the driver is of version 5.10.00.5365 and is dated 12/10/2003.
Where should I send the file to be attached here?
For now you can get the file HERE (under the Files section).

    Unzip.
And when looking for driver, point to the folder where the unzipped files are.
    Finished.
    Works great

  • Windows Explorer Refuses to Open Folders In Same Window

I have Windows Vista Ultimate SP1. Under Organize->Folder and Search Options->Browse folders I have the radio button, "Open each folder in the same window" checked. However, Vista refuses to do so and opens each folder in its own window. This does not work well for me because I end up with tons of open windows and its a pain to close them. This behaviour just started. Yesterday it did not do this. This is a fresh install with only Visual Studio 2005, Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2005, Expression Studio 2, Adobe CS3 and InstallAware installed.
Also worth noting is that if I right click on a folder, the default action of Open is in bold. If I click it then it will open the folder in the same window. However, every time I double click it opens a new window.
Please help as I really don't want to have to switch to a third party file management tool over this.
    Thanks!

    Guys,
This problem has been driving me nuts for weeks now. I've cruised this and several other forums, and tried every damn "fix" out there.
WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM (All updates applied)
I've done registry edits, registered .dll files, changed folder option settings back and forth, uninstalled software, re-installed software,  etc, etc.. Ad nauseam. (I
don't have IE8 or Source Gear Vault) Although both of these seem to come up often in these discussions.
I bumbled into something on one these forums, and    ** I FOUND THE SOLUTION!**
It is very easy to do
Presumably SAFE (It comes from Microsoft)
I suggest you bookmark this site for future use. (I did, and plan on using it for some of my clients computers
    when having weird problems)
Go to this web site: http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/
Then, in section 2 click on "Use desktop features, or open programs and files"
In the window below will be a list of solutions. Simply "Run Now" the one called : Diagnose and repair Windows File and Folder Problems automatically
After running the "fixit" my problem of a new window opening all the time in Windows Explorer went away! Worked perfect!
Ps.  In my Browser rather than running when I clicked "Run",  it downloaded the file. So I ran it locally. No big deal, they suggest doing that anyway if you need the file to run on a computer that is not online. When I ran the program I chose
the second option, which is to NOT fix the problem automatically, but to see a list of repair options first. (rather than choosing to repair automatically)
    My results were two things:
Rebuild my icon cache (didn't really have troubles with that anyway)
    Repair folder options
I decided to let it "fix" both problems, even though I haven't had any problems with icons. After the program finished (about 20 sec) I checked and no longer had the problem of a new window opening in explorer, however the acid test was going to be will
it continue to work properly after I re-boot. Guess what? PROBLEM WAS FINALLY SOLVED!
Anyway, I hope this works for any of you guys too. I see that "some" of these other solutions worked for some of you, but none of them worked for me until I ran the "FIXIT" program from Microsoft. There is also a
ton of other AUTOMATIC FIXIT's on the site for various other computer problems. I hope they all work as well as this one did! (I'll try to post this in some of the other forums, but feel free to do so yourself)
    Good luck everyone.....

  • No sound from laptop speakers after Windows update installed Realtek HD Audio

Laptop is HP6626US with Windows Vista 32 bit SP2.
I had an error with Windows Update which was recently fixed.  When I ran the update Realtek HD Audio was installed, among many other items.  I now have the red circle white X by my speaker icon and do not get any sound out of internal speakers.
    The Driver version is 6.0.1.6662
    Direct X version 11.0
    Audio Codec ALC 268
In Device Manager Under Sound, video and game controllers Realtek HD Audio is listed with Unimodem Half Duplex Audio Device if that is helpful.
    Help Appreciated.

    Hello,PaulM25.
I see that you're having an issue with the sound on your notebook. Typically this means the Drivers don't exist and can also be considered as a hardware issue.
I have a couple of questions for you before we get going.
This is your notebook (HP Pavilion dv6626us Entertainment) correct?
Did this issue occur after you updated the audio drivers?
Now, you can go ahead and try these steps to resolve the issue.
Please completely remove the drivers for the Audio Device in Device Manager and “Control Panel – Programs and Features”.
    Reboot the computer.
Please check if the device will be installed automatically after the computer starts. If not, please go to Device Manager and then navigate to the Audio Device, right click on it and choose “Update Driver software”
If the issue persists, please try to manually install the device driver which comes with the computer to see if it works. (You can also go to HP website to install the drivers. If you cannot find it, please give me the detail information of the device or the computer, such as brand, model, etc., I will help you search for the proper driver.)

  • Can't uninstall sound drivers (Realtek AC97 Audio)

Hi, I’m having problems uninstalling my sound driver that’s on my MSI K8N NEO4-F. When I choose to remove it in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel I get the following error message:
(I’m translation this from Swedish so if some word has the wrong synonym or is grammatically incorrect the reason is because English is my second language.)
    >SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (390)
    pAPP:Realtek AC’97 Audio
    PVENDOR:Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
    PGUID:fb08f381-6533-4108-b7dd-039e11fbc27e
    $11.0.0.28844
    @Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) IE 6.0.2900.2180
    Another error message follows:
An error has occurred in the uninstall program.
    Do this:
      -Close all open program.
      -Clean temp folder.
      -Control your internet connection
Then try to run the uninstall program again.
The reason I want to uninstall the driver is because I couldn’t get my microphone  to work with the onboard soundcard. So I've put in my old Sound Blaster Live 5.1 and it works a lot better, but it only works after I have done a "Hardware Test" in Properties for “Sound and Sound units” in the Control Panel. The microphone sometimes stops working while I’m using Ventrilo and I have to redo the “Hardware Test” to get it to work which is very annoying.
I would really appreciate any help with this problem.
    /Regards Thor-Björn

The drivers are disabled in BIOS and I tried to remove the drivers in Safe Mode but got the same error messages. However, I DLed a program called Driver Cleaner Pro and removed Realtek AC 97 Drivers. This did not fix my microphone problems though! Anyone know how I can get the microphone working without having to do Hardware Tests? And what could it be that fixes the problem when I do a Hardware Test?

  • T43 - Windows 7 Compatibility?

Has anyone installed Windows on a T43 Thinkpad?  I am not sure it will handle graphics, and it shows that the Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 BG many not be supported/work. Looking for anyone who has tried Windows on older Thinkpads.
    Thanks .... James

Everything will run great in W7 if you have a T43 with ATi graphics (model numbers starting in 26xx), including Aero. No issues with 2200BG (or any other card used on T43/p for that fact).
If you have a machine with Intel graphics (model numbers starting in 187x) you will not be able to run Aero, although everything else will work just fine.
I strongly suggest maxing the RAM at 2GB if you're intent on running W7. I've been doing in for quite some time on some of my T43/p units and have been extremely pleased this far.
    Good luck.
