T500 HSPA Issues

I am having users that are using the Ericsson F3507g on the AT&T network.  They are experiencing many times where the connection will just disconnect or the connection will stay connected but will quit passing data.   At those times they can just reconnect to the WWAN network and be fine to go.   Sometimes this disconnect happens with in minutes or longer.   I am trying to determine if this is a carrier issue or not.   The laptops range from vista to XP SP3.   All have current driver loads.   is there a firmware for the card that I am missing?
Thank you for any assistance.

We have verified the power management checkbox is unchecked.  It seems we're not alone in experiencing this problem as this thread has 4 pages of posts talking about this very issue.  We just downloaded the Ericsson wireless manager and will be testing it over the next few days, but the problems certainly seem to indicate a firmware problem rather than a connection manager problem.
I've seen the problems that everyone is talking about on my laptop; a X200 Tablet with f3507g WWAN card, and Vista 64.  We're also seeing problems with T500 Windows XP laptops running the latest Lenovo stack.
The problem seems to manifest itself in two distinct areas:
1) We see the "connecting to AT&T" take minutes to connect, rather than the typical and expected seconds.
2) We also see the connection stop passing data after a random period of time, but still show as connection.
In scenario 1, I've been able to just re-attempt the connection during the long duration of "connecting, please wait" and most of the time it will succeed.
In scenario 2, we have to disconnect and reconnect to reset the stack.  Any diagnostics attempted during this hung period time out, and the laptop is blissfully unaware of any problem.  It still increments the outgoing packet counters, but the incoming counters stay fixed.  Strangely, the modem is still responsive to disconnect and power-off commands.
I would really appreciate some technical assistance from Lenovo, or at the least an acknowledgement of a problem.

    Hi,
We have just installed 250 T500 laptops.  We are having several users complain that the
"mouse" drops in applications; IE Outlook to the last message in the inbox.
It seems to be an issue with the touchpad.  I disabled it for a few users and this fixed it.  Has anyone else seen this issue?
    Thanks

So the problem doesn't occur with Intel graphics?
I had updated the ATI Catalyst Control Center drivers and video applications directly from the ATI site and had forgotten about it.  It was a newer version although installed some files and not others.
After uninstalling the ATI software and reinstalling the latest (albeit older) display drivers/software from Lenovo, so far it seems to be working fine now.  This episode was my punishment for going outside Lenovo for drivers.  : )

  • T500 Graphic Issue (atikmdag.sys)

Hi, I want to mention I've already went ahead and tried every other possible solution suggested on the web before coming here, but either I am still doing something wrong, or I have to assume my ATI just died... I don't have much experience with computer hardware, so I am really hoping I'm mistaken. Hopefully someone can help me out with this.
    The situation:
My T500 Laptop (Win7, 64bit) with switchable graphics suddenly crashed while I was playing a game. The screen froze and the graphics warped/fragmented and I had to force a Reset because nothing happend anymore.
And ever since then I am not able to start up Win7 with my ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3650. I always receive the BSOD (Bluescreen) with the error message that atikmdag.sys caused a critical error and the system shuts down.
Additionally, the Lenovo LCD is no longer showing anything at all, I am forced to use an external monitor to see something.
The start-up screens are all warped by graphical errors, and the only way to load windows using the ATI is to enter safemode. Then I have to uninstall every ATI-Driver if i want to enter Windows again outside safemode.
Next time I start windows, it installs a driver from its local library, and the whole desktop is overlaid with blue vertical lines.
I tried making a screenshot of them, but when I look at the screenshot with my working Intel Graphic card they are nowhere to be seen. Which kinda confuses me...
Using the BIOs to switch from Discrete (ATI) to Integrated (INTEL) graphic card allows me to use my Laptop as usual, with no problems or even hints at the errors the ATI causes. If I use the BIOs to set everything to switchable Graphics I receive the perm-black screen again, but this time even the external monitor is not showing anything.
What I tried to solve this problem:
-Checked for Updates and new drivers.
-Unistalled all installed Drivers and replaced them with the newest Drivers available
-Installed Win7 again, applied every Update, Patch and Driver available
After doing all this, the only thing left would be to assume that the ATI simply died after all the time I spent using her.
Using Google to search for an answer leads me to countless topics with "Use Update" as the answer. I am fairly convinced that the drivers are NOT the problem.
If I need to post anything else, or if the description of my problem is confusing, please tell me. I really hope there is another way to fix my Laptop except replacing it with a new model, so I will try to do anything I can to help find a solution.

This could be a hardware issue.  Since it happens as you start up I don't thik it is heat.  If under warranty, I would backup everything and send it in - you may end up with a new motherboard.  If not, a few thoughts.  Re-image your hard drive - back up everything then re-install windows from the bacup media that you made when you got the computer.  Otherwise, stick with slow old intel graphics and you will need to game on something else.

  • ThinkPad T500 & HSPA+

    Dear community,
would it be possible to use the HSPA+ capable UMTS module "0A36186"on a  ThinkPad T500 "2089-A35-GE"? The build in old module does unfortunately only support standard HSPA.
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Illuminatus78,
Unfortunately, it does not look to be compatible with the T500, both the site you linked to and the Lenovo page for the same product do not list the T500 as compatible (Here's the same accessory on the Lenovo site: ThinkPad Mobile Broadband Global - Overview )
I also checked the compatibility using a chart I have and it coincides with those two pages.

  • T500 Resolution issue

Our company is a reseller of Lenovo and sold a custom T500 W7 to a good client to replace his T61 Vista (64575KU).  His setup is for the laptop to be docked (250410U) and the display is expanded across two 22" LG LCD monitors; one digital, one analogue (Samsung Synchmaster 225BW).  With his T61 the image is clear.  With the T500 the right, non primary, analogue LCD flickers, especially the top inside or left corner.  On the T500 I have updated all the Windows and ATI drivers and Lenovo updates.
The client can’t see past this issue to be impressed with his new laptop.  I am not sure where to go from here.  Is it possible this resolution is beyond the abilities of the Radeon 3650 video card?
    Thanks in advanced.

I guess you also updated the bios as well on the t500?
Those screens are not beyond the capabilities of the T500 (3650).  I've run this laptop on 2  22" screens 1600x1050 and it worked well.   I'm not really sure where the issue would be though?
I'm sure you checked that the display is being run at full resolution...
Which display is it which exhibits the flashing?  If it is the analog monitor I would try switching monitors and see if that improves the situation, some LCD"s have very poor analog inputs and i've seen problems even when using  or more of the same model.
I would say you should try it out with a dock with two digital displays however that doesn't seem to work in win7 due to the lack of presentation manager for win7 (in vista I can setup Displayport/Dvi + dock DVI and have two extenral digital displays, though it turns off my onboard laptops panel.

  • About T500 battery issue

I bought a T500 in Jan, 2009. So far my battery only has 53 cycles. But it only could last at most 20min. Sometimes, the gauge shows 60% full, but the next minute it shows less than 1% full and shut down automatically. Although I bought a 3-year warranty for my T500, the representative said the warranty for battery is only one year... And I found I need to spend more than $150 for a new battery...
The manufacturer is Sony and FRU number is  42T4623. It is a Li-Ion battery and the gauge still says this battery is in good condition. What's the problem with battery? Do I have to buy a new one?
    Thanks for any advice.

  • T500 OpenGL issue.

    Hello,
I'm curious wether anybody tried to play any Doom3 engine games (Doom3, Quake4, ET:QW, Prey) on a hybrid graphics T500 with radeon hd 3650, but every time I start one of these games, I recive a "Video driver has been recovered" message and the game hangs. (Of course it does, the driver just crashed under it...). Never experienced the same with D3D applications.
I hope anyone has a solution for this mess.
Using Vista32Buisness with up-to-date drivers (according to lenovo update manager).
    Thank you.

Additional info: I'm not finding any Synaptics drivers in the control panel > uninstall or change programs list.  I also pulled up the list of drivers more my machine type (2081CTO) on the Lenovo downloads page, and there is nothing for Synaptics or "touchpad" listed.

  • T500 - Power Issue

When left on all day my week old T500 seems to power itself off.  If I leave it running overnight the next morning none of the status lights are illuminated (not even power and battery).  The ONLY way I can get the laptop to come back up is to remove the A/C adapter and battery.  I have set all power settings to max.

Have you checked your power setting under windows, and whether you set automatic shutoff after certain periods???
When you power it back on, is your battery completely drained or still holds the same amount of charge from when you left it???
But from my own experience, if both of the power status light shuts off, it usually indicates that something could be going on in hardware, if i am you i would make sure nothing is wrong with the hardware, log a service call with Lenovo and then send it in for service just for a piece of mind.

  • T500 OS Issues

Hello, I just got my new T500 Thinkpad in the mail the other day, but unfortunately I've run into a few problems.
I decided to only buy 1 GB of ram since I figured it would be cheaper for me to add more ram at a later time.  The thing is, this Thinkpad comes preloaded with Vista Home Basic and having only 1 GB of ram while running vista doesn't really allow me to run other programs smoothly (it's really laggy).  An easy (yet pricy) way of fixing this is to buy more ram, but I'm not prepared to do that quite yet.
I tried installing Windows XP Pro SP2, but everytime I boot from the install disc, I would get a BSoD.  I called Lenovo Tech Support, and the guy said it's impossible for me to run any other OS besides Vista (not even Linux) on this machine because of a lack of drivers.
I'm finding it hard to believe that no other OS will run on this machine.  Is there any way I can get XP or Linux (ideally Ubuntu) on my T500?  My friend suggested something called "slipstreaming" which will apparently have the needed drivers on the disc as well.  Does anybody know more about this?
Thanks in advance for any help you could give me.  I REALLY appreciate it.

    noshoes, welcome to the forum,
change the BIOS settings in Config > SATA to Compatibility Mode from AHCI. This will allow you to install XP.
You can find drivers for the T500 here; start with the Windows Install Supplements first. You could also allow ThinkVantage System update to find the necessary drivers for you.
Please ensure you read the installation instructions for the drivers, some require others to be installed first.
    Hope this helps

  • T500 Fan issue; error message at boot

Am seeking help with the prospect of replacing the cpu fan on my T500 [2243-8YM].
Have done similar repair on a DV9000 so with manual and time on my hands; off I went.
Got the unit out; fan rotor was very stiff [did try to manipulate rotor as laptop was booting, got it moving but still error message] Tried blowing out all vent holes, dab of light oil on shaft and reassembled. Although fan started on its' own accord, it was not enough to stop the error message.
My concern is after having the unit in my hands and looking it over closely, I cannot see how the fan unit itself can be changed [the DV9000 had 2 very small phillips head screwa retaining the fan]. Cannot see any screws attaching fan to heat sink, but if new replacement fans are available on ebay, and they are, then they must be able to be replaced, n'est pas?
My only guess is that the small copper coloured tabs on the underside of the heatsink unit are pried open and voila` - away we go. But if that is the method, does the foil need to be retracted to gain access to any other retainers? Am really worried about causing damage to the foil, and the sealing foam around the vents.
Am attaching a picture, left image is the heatsink unit [where only 1 tab is visible] and the other image is a photo of the underside of a new fan. I have added arrows to indicate 4 likely tab locations. So am I right in assuming that the foil not only seals the vent but also secures the fan frame to the heatsink unit?

  • T500 audio issue

When I am docked, I can (of course) hear my audio through my connected external speakers or through my headphones.
When I undock, I cannot hear anything through the built-in speakers.
The built-in speakers used to work when I had 64bit Vista; I upgraded to Windows 7 and now the sound doesn't work the same way.
I've gone through the control panel to see if anything looks amiss, but I don't know what I should be looking for.
    Help!

I now think that it's possible there wasn't a "problem" so much as an inconvenience. While at home, I incrementally re-installed everything that I still wanted and saw no problems with the headphone jack. However, once I returned to work and connected the laptop to my dock with USB speakers, the USB always take precedence. Previously, the computer would recognize that headphones were plugged in and switch from USB to internal (ie. headphone jack) as default, and switch back to USB when the headphones were removed, always skipping the on-board speakers. That ability now seems to be missing and I need to manually set the internal speakers as default whenever I plug in headphones and manually back to USB when they're removed. Is there any way to get this functionality back? I loved how it "just worked" before. Now it's "just broken".

  • T500 Long Power down Issue

    Hello everyone,
Just wanted to know if anyone has experienced an issue with the T500 having issues powering down.  I've ran into an issue where the docked T500 takes approximately 40 seconds to successfully powerdown, after Windows XP has successfully shutdown.  Any ideas would be greatly apprecitated...

after the latest update of some windows software, the W500 at my company with XP has taken around 1 minute to power down... how long does it take to power down under safe mode. Most likely this is a software problem, but there are cases (not with Thinkpads) where i have seen that hardware problem is causing long delay in shutdowns.

  • Continued Availability of Nokia 808

    Hello
I am in a bit of a bind at the moment because my 808 exhibits purple tint in the photos taken at high ISO. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, there are no xxxxx5051xxxxxx serial nos. here and I was told to wait for the firmware fix which isn't confirmed to solve my problem. If I buy the phone online then there is no warranty for the phone as the phone's warranty is local only. The repaired phone has a IMEI that is lower the the original IMEI.
Customer Service say the phone is replaced at the Care Center's discretion. How long more will the 808 stay available?

    1) UK Nokia shops will not service the 808. I phoned up several. Also they have never heard of the HSPA issue and will not discuss looking for it on any internal Nokia database. Whether I think they are being dishonest, or just idiots who don't give a damn, who knows? It's all the same these days, in what passes for "customer service".
    2) The IMEI which some time ago was posted here as a brand new phone which worked is
    35196505006xxxx
Since a lot of the UK grey imports are from HK, I have got somebody in Hong Kong to do some checks. Interesting results... None of the phone shops sell the 808 but there are online outlets that do. Also Nokia itself sells it directly, for about HKD 5500 (roughly equivalent to the absolutely highest prices charged on amazon.co.uk for what is a grey import anyway). Some IMEIs were checked and all are well before the above one i.e. they are "old stock".
It almost looks like Nokia has tried hard to not sell the 808 via shops. Maybe they did a deal with the networks who agreed to take on their new WP phones, to not place the 808 in any retail facing outlet. That would not be suprising. So Nokia are instead pushing it via grey outlets, but at the same time in a way which voids any warranty.
