T520 - How to decrease memory frequency

Hello everyone,
I am lucky owner of T520 with Intel 2620M processor and 4Gb of memory onboard.
One day I bought memory kit Kingston "Hyper X" KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G (2*4Gb) and thought "memory supports 1600 and 1333Mhz, and my laptop needs 1333, so it will select correct frequency automatically".
But there started problems - processor initiated new memory with frequency 1600Mhz, and all the system now works unstable. I have errors in Windows 7 memory test. By the way, I tried to check memory pieces apart each other, and in single mode they work fine. SO I think that processor's memory controller is loaded too much in 'dual channel'
So my question is - how can I decrease memory frequency on Lenovo T520 laptop? I was confused, but in BIOS there is no option to change frequencies like it is on Desktop PC...
Thanks.

  • How to decrease memory usage in XE 11.2

    Yesterday I uninstalled Oracle XE 10 and installed OracleXE 11. Everything is going fine so far except for the memory usage - it's around 800 megs. I remember having this problem with the last XE instance, and there was some way to change this, but I don't recall what it was. I looked around on the XE web interface - which is very different from the last interface - but couldn't find anything.
    Does anybody know what I'm needing to change?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Memory frequency in overclocking?

    I hope someone is willing to help me out as I am a complete beginner and very much out of my depth... having said that...
    I'm looking to set up a very modest stable overclock... with next to no idea of what i'm doing.
    I have an E4400 ms-7255 with 2 x 1gb RAM which runs at 333Mhz according to cpuz.
    I haven't been able to find anything about 333Mhz RAM (if that IS indeed what i have - since i read it usually runs below its specs)
    How does RAM frequency affect overclocking? Is it still possible/worthwhile or does the bandwidth limit it too much?
    What settings would you recommend me attempting as a very safe attempt without having to flick the switch to reset my motherboard - and could you give me a bit of a run down/how to keeping in mind i'm less than leet.
    Thanks so much
    Samuel

    Hello oscariouss,
    the first basic thing you should try to get sorted before you get into overclocking is the difference between "real clock speeds" and "effective clock speeds" and also the inter-dependencies of different clocks and clock rates on an Intel System.
    CPU-Z for example, shows you the "real" clock speed of your memory.  Now, as we are talking about DDR memory modules, the effective clock speed is always twice the real clock speed.  That is why "333 MHz" actually translates to DDR2-667 Mhz effectively. [DDR stands for "Double Data Rate" and this means that with each clock cycle, two transactions will take place (that is how you get the factor x2)]

    You probably have DDR2-667 memory modules.  To be absolutely sure about that, open your computer case and have a look at the memory modules themselves.  The brand and model name is usually mentioned on some sort of sticker.
    CPU-Z should also display information about the brand and model name of your memory modules.  Have a look at the "SPD" Tab and see what it says in the top half.  You can also make screenshot and post them here for comparison.
    To overclock the system, the most basic operation is to simply raise the FSB Clock Speed in BIOS.  For your current processor, the default FSB clock speed should be 200 MHz.  CPU Frequency is always the product of FSB Clock Speed x Multiplier and that is why raising the FSB Frequency will automatically result in a higher CPU Frequency.
    Keep in mind, that memory frequency is also tied to FSB Frequency.  The relation between FSB Clock and memory clock is regulated via FSB/Memory Ratios that can be set in BIOS.  If your FSB Clock speed is 200 MHz and memory clock speed (real) is 333 MHz, that means that FSB/Memory Ratio is set to 1:1.66 in BIOS (probably via an AUTO setting).
    Now, if you raise FSB Clock Speed, memory clock speed will rise as well.  If you would increase FSB Frequency to 210 MHz in BIOS and the FSB/Memory Ratio remains @1:1.66, memory clock speed will be forced to:
    210 MHz x 1.66 = 348,6 MHz [or DDR2-697 MHz effectively]
    Please also remember, that your board is a budget model whose VIA Chipset is not really a high-end/high-performance piece of hardware.  Overclocking is not exactly what the designers had in mind here.  That means that the overclocking potential will most likely be limited and the BIOS will probably lack specific OC relevant options that will help to  reach higher clock speeds.  That, of course, does not mean that you should not at least try to check what is possible, but you should not be disappointed when you find out that you are unable to stabilize the system above certain frequencies.
    I don't know which options you have to influence memory clock speed (or more precisely FSB/Memory Ratio) in BIOS.  Just have a look what options you have there and tell us here.

  • B75A-G43 low memory frequency

    I have bough MSI B75A-G43 motherboard and four AMD AE34G1609U2-U memory modules (built by Patriot). In BIOS each of modules frequency shown as 1600, but memory frequency set to 1333, and no option 1600 provided in menu.
    I have updated BIOS to latest version, but no success.
    Is there some way to set memory frequency to 1600?

    I see that, that is because it is AMD memory designed for AMD systems.
    You will need to manually set the speed and timings although it SHOULD work even though it is not ment for intel.
    Do you need help with this?
    How to manually set the memory to it's spec (as stated on thier website)
    Enter UEFI/Bios
    Click OC
    Goto DRAM FREQUENCY: AUTO  and change this to 1600
    (At this point you can try to save and exit, but i prefer to set the timings manually.)
    Next:
    Change the Dram Timing Mode to either Link or Unlink either one will work.
    Click on advanced dram configuration
    Set the timings as follows:
    tCL: 9
    tRCD:9
    tRP:9
    tRAS:24
    save and exit
    It is possible that these settings will not work, if your system won't boot after doing this, you will need to clear the cmos and start over.

  • How to decrease SGA size in oracle 9i

    hi,
    how to decrease SGA size .. now SGA size=400m i want to drecrease to 150m
    Thanks,
    Mohammed

    Why do you want to do this? Is your system low on memory?
    Perhaps your DB is on a laptop with
    only a small amount of memory?
    Well an enterprise database server set of
    thread inside a complex service would need
    a high powered laptop with large amounts
    of memory.
    Or perhaps your UAT server has 10 databases
    on it all competing for resource?The culprit may not be Oracle.
    For example (as you have not told us your operating system, windows linux unix?) IBM's AIX unix operating system comes configured optimally for managing file caching in the OS memory; as Oracle also caches the blocks read from disk sometimes the file system caching is redundant and ends up using memory better allocated to Oracle. In that case you tune the Unix kernel to reduce memory allocated to the file system caching. The default settings allow IBM AIX to take up to 80% of system memory for caching bad if you have allocated 40% to the SGA already.........
    The really cool thing about AIX is you can do this on the fly and you don't need to reboot so when you go live you juggle until you get an optimal setting and then monitor.
    In the end you may just have to add memory.

    I have been trying for over a week to get windows to boot up with more then one stick of ram in.  I called OCZ today and got the detailed specs of what I should be set at ...
    6-5-5-18  2T   2.1V   and 800mhz Dram freq.  ( This is for 2 sets, 4 sticks of 2gb ram)
    I can get the frequency to 802 with some messing around with the cpu settings.  I tried to start with that and I get to the windows start screen where the little green loading bars go across before the windows userloggon screen and freezes for a second then reboots. After reboot then goes to Windows error repair.
    Sorry forgot to stick that in there

    To run memory at 800, apply CPU reference clock to 213MHz {Can be named "FSB" in BIOS}
    There is no warranty that will works as this is consider as OC.
    Another combination is apply CPU MP to x14, that will underlock CPU to 2800MHz and memory freq. will be 800 too.

  • How to change the frequency of pulse train on the fly using an array of values?

    Hi all!
    First I want to thank U for the great job you are doing for this forum.
    Iam still busy trying to control a stepper motor, by sending pulses from my E-series 6024 to a compumotor s6- stepper Driver. I've managed to get it working. I desperately need to control the motor using the values from an array. I believe we can use two approaches for that:
    1st - I can get an array of the "numbers of pulses". Each element must run for 10 milliseconds. Using that we can calculate the array of frequencies to send the number of pulses within 10 milliseconds for each specific element. Could we use the arrays of "number of pulses" and frequencies in a "finite pulse train " and up
    date with each element every 10 millisecond?
    2nd - Or Could we use of the frequency array in a "continuous pulse train vi" and update it every 10 milliseconds?
    Please note that I must use the values as they are.
    Can someone please built a good example for me? Your help will be appreciated.
    Regards
    Chris

    Tiano,
    I will try to better explain the paragraph on LabVIEW. The original paragraph reads ...
    "While in a loop for continuous pulse train generation, make two calls to Counter Set Attribute.vi to set the values for "pulse spec 1" (constant 14) and "pulse spec 2" (constant 15). Following these calls you would make a call to Counter Control.vi with the control code set to "switch cycle" (constant 7). The attached LabVIEW programs demonstrate this flow."
    You can make two calls to Counter Set Attribute or you can make a call to Set Pulse Specs which, if you open this VI, you will see that it is just making two calls to Counter Set Attribute. What you are doing with the Counter Set Attribute VIs is setting two registers called "pulse s
    pec 1" and "pulse spec 2". These two registers are used to configure the frequency and duty cycle of your output frequency.
    The example program which is attached to this Knowledge Base demonstrates how to change the frequency of a continuous generation on the fly. Why continuous? Because changing the frequency of a finite train would be easy. When the train completes it's finite generation you would just change the frequency and run a finite train again. You would not care about the time delay due to reconfiguration of the counter.
    If you would like to change the frequency of the pulse train using a knob, this functionality will have to be added in the while loop. The while loop will be continuously checking for the new value of the knob and using the knob value to set the pulse specs.

  • How can I tell what video card and how much video memory does my iMac have?

    How or where can I find out: which video card does my iMac have and how much video memory does it have? I've tried looking in System profiler, but I did not see it there. Thank you.

    Once you open System Profiler there should be a line called "memory" which is the RAM (vs. hard drive size which is not what is called memory), e.g., Memory: 1.5 GB
    For video click on the line Graphics/Displays and look at the chipset line, e.g., Chipset Model: GeForce2 TwinView
    Kappy's instructions are handy for checking the original configuration of your computer, but that may have been changed at some time, especially if you bought it secondhand.

  • How to decrease the width of left column in the "2 column layout"?

    Hi all,
    I create two webdynpro based iViews in the EP, then I create a page use the "2 column layout(Narrow:Wide)".I put one iview in the left column and another iview in the right column. When I preview my page, I found the left column still too wide. So how to decrease the width of my page's left column?
    Thanks and Best regards
    Deyang

    Hi Deyang,
    You have to create your own layout:
    - Navigate to System Administration->Support
    - Choose Portal Runtime -> Browse Deployment
    - Navigate under pcd or under temp, and download the layouts par (com.sap.portal.layouts.default.par.bak if I recall correctly)
    - Import that par as a project to Developer Studio
    - Make your changes (create a new jsp acording to the existing examples, and update the portalapp.xml accordingly)
    - Export to par (in a different name!) and deploy
    - In the portal content: new from par -> Layout (don't forget to mark it as a template).
    - Your new layout template will now be available when you create new pages.
    good luck!

  • How to Decrease fragmentation level of a table.

    Hello Everyone,
    There is a table present in my production database.
    Its version is Oracle 10G(10.2.0.1.0)
    i)Its size is 26 GB with fragmentation level.
    ii)It has more then 48 crores of rows.
    iii)Its size is 20 GB without fragmentation level.(So 6 GB of unused space is wasted).
    Following are my doubts regarding the above points.
    i) How to decrease the fragmentation level of the table.
    ii) if there is any way to decrease the fragmentation level,how much time it will take to perform the particular activity so as to decrease the fragmentation level.

    Well Mine is Oracle 10G. Hence the production database is Locally Managed.Well it has more then 48 millions of rows in my table
    Definition of Fragmentation :-
    When rows are not stored contiguously, or if rows are split onto more than one block, performance decreases because these rows require additional block accesses.
    When a lot of DML operations are applied on a table, the table will become fragmented because DML does not release free space from the table below the HWM.
    Definition of High Water Mark(HWM):-
    HWM is an indicator of USED BLOCKS in the database. Blocks below the high water mark (used blocks) have at least once contained data. This data might have been deleted. Since Oracle knows that blocks beyond the high water mark don't have data, it only reads blocks up to the high water mark when doing a full table scan.
    Please go through the below example if you have any doubts.
    EXAMPLE:-
    How to find table fragmentation?
    SQL> select count(*) from big1;
    1000000 rows selected.
    SQL> delete from big1 where rownum <= 300000;
    300000 rows deleted.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> update big1 set object_id = 0 where rownum <=350000;
    342226 rows updated.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> exec dbms_stats.gather_table_stats('SCOTT','BIG1');
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    Now lets determine the size of table
    TABLE SIZE(with fragmentation)
    SQL> select table_name,round((blocks*8),2)||'kb' "size"
    2 from user_tables
    3 where table_name = 'BIG1';
    TABLE_NAME size
    BIG1 72952kb
    ACTUAL DATA in table:
    SQL> select table_name,round((num_rows*avg_row_len/1024),2)||'kb' "size"
    2 from user_tables
    3 where table_name = 'BIG1';
    TABLE_NAME size
    BIG1 30604.2kb
    Note = 72952 - 30604 = 42348 Kb is wasted space in table

  • How to change the frequency of a finite pulse train?

    Hi all? I Know I’ve asked once a similar question, but I need a better answer. I would like some ideas or examples on how to modify the example in LV; "Finite Pulse Train Generation - Intermediate for AM9513-Based Devices",so that the frequency can be changed while the VI is executing.

    What do you mean by 'clear memory' ?
    You can close apps via the iPad's taskbar (a lot of the apps that show on the taskbar will just be 'recently used', they won't be using resources) : from the home screen (if you have an app 'open' on-screen then it won't show on the taskbar for closing) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar at the bottom of the iPad's screen, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the iTunes app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    If you want to delete content from your iPad to free up storage then you can see how much space each app is taking up via Settings > General > Usage. To delete an app (and therefore its content) press and hold any of the apps on your iPad’s homescreen and after a couple of seconds or so they should start to shake. Then press the 'x' in the left corner to delete the ones that you don't want, and when you've finished deleting press the home button so as to stop the shaking. If you don't get the 'x' on any of the apps that you've downloaded (you can't delete built-in apps) then check that Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps isn't set 'off'.
    To do a soft-reset (i.e. a reboot) : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear.
