TAB control move in out

I would like to swap 2 charts:  1 is inside a Tab control, the other is located outside the TAB control.
Problem: The tab control extends when I swap position and I don't want that.   I just want the charts to swap without modifying the TAB-control.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks, I will assume that moving something out of a container on runtime is NOT possible.
I will place the graphs I want to switch in an additional TAB control and switch those pages.

Make the tab control a control and not an indicator. If you want to write
to it you need to create a local variable.

You can create a property node of a tab control to give you references to all of the pages (a 1-D array).  From there, you can create a property node on a particular reference and set the visibility of that page.

  • Keyboard "tab" control in Array of Clusters

I'm trying to polish some of my LabVIEW user interfaces so that my users can work faster in them and so that they follow more "Windows UI Standards" (or whatever).
I have an array of clusters.  The cluster has 3 numerics.
When a user "focusses" on the first numeric within a cluster and hits the tab key, it moves the focus to the second numeric.  Hit tab again, and it jumps to the 3rd numeric.  Hit the tab key a 3rd time and it jumps back to the first numeric in the cluster.  What I want to happen is for the focus to move to the first numeric in the next element of the array.
I've started to play around with the "Key Down" event case that has a conditional looking for "TAB" and then checks the "FindCtrlWithKeyFocus" with the last numeric.  My probes within this event show that the "TAB" key detection is working, but the "FindCtrlWithKeyFocus" never has a TRUE output from the "CtrlFound?" output of the Invoke Node.
Even if I did know if tab was pressed in the last element, I'm not real sure how to move focus to the first numeric within the next cluster element of the array.
A numeric array behaves in the correct way.  I could get the program working the way I want with a 2d array of numerics.  However, each numeric has different data entry parameters and there is also a lost of "self documentation".  I would like to find a solution because this has come up with other, more complex, array of clusters that would not be solveable with a 2d array of a base type.
    Seems overly complicated to me.
Bonus Question: The default value of my numerics is 0.  When my user clicks a numeric the cursor is on either side of the 0 and the user has to delete the 0 prior to their data input.  When a numeric is entered via the Tab key, the whole field is selected.  When the whole field is selected, whatever the user inputs will replace the original "0" that was in the field.  Anyway to have the whole field selected when the user uses the mouse?
Sorry for the wall-of-text post (and the preposition hell).  Thanks for your input.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well I've gone and gotten the tabbing behavior you're looking for.
-the key is to set "skip when tabbing" on the controls inside the clusters to true, and leave it false for the array elements.  Now when keyfocus is on one of the cluster controls and Tab is pressed, LV will put the keyfocus on the next visible array element.
-then use a "key down?" filtering event to check and see if any of those controls have keyfocus when Tab is pressed.  If so, and it's not the last control in the cluster, discard the keypress and programmatically advance keyfocus to the next item.
-Finally if the Tab press was not discarded, use a normal "key down" UI event to check if one of the array elements now has keyfocus and if so, set KF to the first control in its array.
So in short, this setup turns off tabbing along a row so that every tab will move to the next row.  Then it filters out Tab if it's not yet at the end of the row.  Finally, it automatically puts the cursor in the first column when the row has advanced.
One significant drawback is that it only tabs between visible array elements.  You can probably make it auto scroll.
I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to handle the shift+Tab (reverse tabbing) key presses.
To me, this runs up against three holes in LV UI programming:
    1) Array Element events should be available.     The Array:Key Down event only handles key presses when the array has keyfocus, not when things inside it do.  Any kind of key filtering has to be done at the VI level (!!!).
The data source for these events should include the element index (eg what cell was clicked on?)
    2) There aren't effective ways in VI server to deal with individual array elements.  I recognize that some of it is the basis that array elements have the same properties, but there are display and selection properties that do differ between cells.  I ought to be able to specify that a particular cell index has keyfocus.  Arrays, why can't you be more like Tables?
3)Tab order should be flat, not hierarchical.
edit: in case the snippet messes things up, file is attached.

  • Cannot drag an indicator off a tab control page

I inherit this VI and try to change certain controls in the tab control pages. But the controls are locked together, every time I select an item on the control, everything is selected. And when I make a new string indicator and drop onto the page, I cannot select or delete it. also when I use the arrow down key to move a control onto the tab control page, it does not have a normal shadowed effect to indicate that it's a floating control.
The tab control is in the attachment.

  • EVENT_MOUSE_POINTER_MOVE and Tab Controls

Is there a way to get EVENT_MOUSE_POINTER_MOVE events in a callback whenever the user moves the mouse over a panel that's part of a Tab control?  Basically, I don't see a way to define a panel callback for the panels that are made inside of a Tab control, which would be possible using the old EasyTab way of doing things.  I can define a panel callback for the panel that the Tab control is on, but that callback appears to not receive EVENT_MOUSE_POINTER_MOVE events when the mouse is over the Tab control.  I can put a callback on the Tab control itself, but it seems to only receive EVENT_MOUSE_POINTER_MOVE events when the mouse is at the edge of the control.  It seems like there is something obvious that I am missing here, but I can't figure out what it is.  Thanks!

You can get the panel handle of the desired tab, and then install a panel callback for that panel. I've attached a sample program. Hope this helps.

  • Tab control top property

    Hi
I am trying to create a program that spans on the entire screen i've set the pane size to the same size of the screen and set the origin to 0,0
My problem is that the tab control which almost spans on the entire screen is out of the borders and can't all be seen.
When i try to set the top property on the tab control property node it moves all the controls inside the tab control down every time I run the program so after 5 runs al my controls have moved out of the screen too.
Any help would be much appreciated
    Thanks

    "Tabview"   I like that.
Yikes, why are your fonts at at 7pt??
Anyways, I am not seeing the problem that you are talking about. I can run it continuously and the controls don't change location over and over. They all go to the locations calculated and those locations don't change from run to run.

  • Highlighting current page on Tab control

    Hi!,
I am using tab control with 7 pages. The page names are all in the same colour. Is there any way in which the colour for the name of the current page can be made different from the rest?

Also, which is the best book for inside stuff on property nodes?

It isn't possible to assign a key to more than one control, since then
it would be pretty unclear which control should out-of-the-blue receive
the key. It is possible to catch key events and perform and action
based upon the key press. Another option is to set
    the key focus to the
next logical button in your progression. If the focus is set to a
button, then the space bar, enter key, etc all work.
Since you are asking for comments, the UI you describe sounds a bit odd
to me. A sequence of buttons that the user is required to click in a
given order? You might want to compare this to an indicator showing the
stage and current results, and one more button that says Next. Tie the
key navigation shortcut to the single button, and each button press
moves to the next stage. You might want to add a Cancel or Stop button
if there is ever any need to break out of the sequence. Finally, this
is pretty close to a wizard that allows the user to go both directions.
If it makes sense to reverse and redo a step, add that button too and
you have a very standard UI.
To build a wizard, use a tab control with a page for each stage. Hide
the tabs, and modify the pages by adding or subtracting on the value.

  • Tab to move keyboard focus

Okay, I've been looking around for quite some time and cannot find a solution for my annoying problem: I cannot keep the 'Tab to move keyboard focus between: All controls' to stick. I am able to change the keyboard setting so that the Tab key changes keyboard focus through settings -> keyboard -> keyboard shortcuts -> full keyboard access and the simple control+F7 until I log out, reboot or power cycle.
I have reset all of my keyboard settings to default and I have gone so far as to create a new user with admin priviledges but the problem persists. Any ideas?
I appreciate any input you may have!

More info in case anyone is reading (I feel as though this is a one person conversation).
I backed my MBP up and reinstalled Lion and still have the problem after a restore. I did the reboot -> command-R trick and reset priviledges but to no avail and I am beginning to think this is a bug.
The last thing I will add is under Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts, Full Keyboard Access is granted to All controls and does not reset when I reboot and am unable to change keyboard focus with tab.

  • Can you print all the tab control's contents and include the tabs?

We are trying to generate a report that includes the contents of a tab control (graphs, text).  Using the Append Control Image to Report.vi, we are only able to print out the active tab and the tab is cut off of the image. How can we generate reports that include all the tab pages and their contents and include the labeling tabs?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jim

I do have a workaround for makinging the prints but it looks like some sort of cropped screensave that cuts off the tabs.  In my sample I was printing out 3 of the tab controls and you can see there are three by the cut off tabs.  Is there a setting to allow for more of the graph and its surroundings to be "captured"?

  • How to hide a tab in a Tab Control by Property Node?

    Hi,
I have a Tab Control in my Front Panel. So, using a array of LEDs, I would like to hide some tabs, probably using Property Node functions, but I can't find what option do it. Is it possible?

Thanks Macro!  I came to the forum to find a solution for this exact problem, it's nice to find it already laid out for me so clearly.

  • Cursor Legend Tab Control BUG

Attached is a VI illustrating a bug with the Cursor Legend when graphs are in tab controls. If you enter in a number in the "Cursor X position to move to", then switch pages on the tab control, you'll notice the cursor has moved to the appropriate place, BUT the cursor legend has not changed to reflect that. Once you manually move it, it updates.
In short, if the cursor position changes programmatically, the cursor legend will update ONLY IF THE XY GRAPH IS VISIBLE, even though the cursor position DOES change.
I hope someone from NI will see this post and add it to the bug list (if not already there??). If anyone knows a work around, that would be appreciated also.

Good idea. It doesn't work exactlly, but gave me the idea for how to work around. It appears even if you have a tab value change event doing the same thing the Cursor X Position numeric indicator value change event, the cursor legend X value will not change. You can even try entering the same value in the indicator and pressing return after switching tabs, the cursor legend will not update. It thinks for some reason it is on the correct index. I made a Tab Value change event that first moves the cursor to the next index, then moves the cursor back to the correct index. Ugly but works. Hopefully in the next ver of LV they will have fixed a lot of these cursor bugs; there is definitely some work to be done (i.e. fixing cursor X position for XY graphs, an extremelly annoying bug)

  • Is there a way to add a LED indicator to the tabs in a tab control

I have a tab control with multiple rows of tabs. I would like to know if there is a way that I could add round LED indicators to each of the tabs so that I can quickly see the status of each page.  If I only have one row I can just allow for my LEDs to "hover" over the tab, but this does not work if there are multiple rows since the tabs change locations when they are selected.  Does anyone have experience with this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I decided to take some time (probably way too much time!) to try this out and prove it would work.  See the attachment in LV 8.5.1.
I used arrays and control references to make the code as scalable as possible.  I added several spaces at the end of each label name so that there was some room to place a very small LED.
The trickiest part (and I would save this until the tabs are named, laid out, and the overall tab control is sized) is to find the best location and screen coordinates for each LED.
I discovered for best looks, that the LED should jump up and to the left by 2 pixels when its specific tab is selected, just like the label text does.  Otherwise the LED's just jump around on the screen to match whatever row its respective tab is on.
I have the timeout event randomly turning on and off the LED's, but that would actually be handled by your other code and whatever events determine whether the LED should be on or off.
