Tab Groups window

Hello,
Sorry I do not know English well. I saw in the new version of Firefox that we could add icons on the toolbars. So I added the "Tab Groups" icon on which I then clicked. Results: I lost all my tabs, trying to leave the new display that was open.
I find unfortunate choice the Tab Groups window with a cross on top right. A beginner every time will click on this cross to return to its tabs and in fact will all lose.
Thank you for your attention.

Ok, there is a button History > Recently closed tabs to choose from and open them back up.
If you have already started firefox again, you would have to find them in the History Manager.

• How do I stop all tab group windows cascade open when new page is started

Upgrade to latest Firefox version two days ago, and now whenever I start a NEW PAGE, all tabbed pages cascade onscreen, ie "open link in new window" brings up all tab groups on toolbar.
This has never been a problem - I "save" windows in Tab Groups on my toolbar, and bring up a Group for reference during the day.
Something in the new download has altered my settings, and I cannot find how to keep the tabbed window groups from cascading onscreen, and having to constantly minimise them.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

• Help! How do I exit tab groups and get my session/tabs back. The icon doesn't toggle and instructions don't say how to get back -- first try and I'm stuck.

This is the first time I tried to use tabgroups. I clicked on the bricks-style icon and then couldn't see any way to get back to my current firefox session and open tabs. It doesn't seem to be a toggle, no "go back" or anything else I can see. Help!

In the Tab Groups window, I have a Close (X) button in the right upper corner (along with the Minimize and Maximize buttons). Clicking the Close (X) button will return you to your normal browsing session. In addition, SHIFT+CTRL+E will return you to to your normal browsing (SHIFT+CTRL+E also will open the Tab Groups window).

• Create Tab Groups not working

I have just tried to follow the Help topic at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-are-tab-groups#w_how-do-i-create-a-tab-group, to create groups of tabs relating to same subject, ready to save the tab group as a Favourite/Bookmark.
With the Tab Group view open it says "To make a new group, simply drag one tab out of the group and then drag a second one on top of it. A box will be drawn around them."
Looking at the screenshot accompanying the instruction, it appears that the selected tab from the group view is 'dragged' on to the Desktop (it doesn't actually state where to drag the thumbnail image of the tab to in the instructions).
As soon as the thumbnail image is dragged outside of the tab group view panel - i.e. towards the Desktop - a black 'no entry' symbol (black circle with black diagonal line across its diameter) appears over the thumbnail & when the left mouse button is released the thumbnail 'snaps' back into its original position in the tab group view panel.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi ukdeejay,
Are you sure that you've actually opened the Tab Group window? Try hitting CTRL + SHIFT + E. From this screen you just drag one item out of the existing group.
You might want to try starting Firefox in Safe Mode and trying it from there. If it works in Safe Mode, you should look at Troubleshooting-extensions-themes.
Hopefully this helps!

• Not liking the Tab Group option. Would just like a second row of tabs.

Previous suggestion was to use Tab Groups. (Oh and I did upgrade Firefox)
After playing with the Tab Group option features, it's just not what I'm looking for, or something that would best suit my desires and needs.
Would just like to create a second line of tabs after the first line exceeds the regular window size. Similar to just like adding a tool bar at the top of the page.
Wouldn't think doing such a thing would be a big issue. I'm sure Tab Group windows works great for some, but just not for me.
Wouldn't want to 'squeeze' each tab down so they will all fit across the window, like what happens in the lower taskbar as more and more windows are opened either. It would get to a point to where you couldn't read what the tabs are for.
I think an option for a second line of tabs would be ideal when one needs to have more than 6 tabs opened.
Does this option even exist in Firefox? If so, how can I set it up? If not, how does one suggest a feature like this to Firefox?

You need an extension the get support for a multi-row tab bar.

• Is there a way to use Sync to restore the windows and tab groups I had on my previous computer?

I recently set up a new computer. Signing into Sync restored my bookmarks but not my Firefox windows and tab groups. I can get a LIST of "Tabs From Other Devices" to show up, but what I want to do is to restore the session from my previous computer. Is it possible to do this with Sync? I thought that this was supposed to be one of the things it was for.

You can copy the sessionstore.js file in the current Firefox profile folder to an USB stick and copy that file to the profile folder on the other computer.

• In one Firefox window both the "+" sign to add another tab and tab groups symbol have dissappeared. Can't access tab groups nor add tabs anymore.

Both are present in other windows I have open inside of Firefox.
Software OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)
FF: version 22.0
All new tabs open in a different window than the one with missing tab groups and "+"-sign even when generated from this window. Closing open tabs does not help.

This could be a problem with an extension that you have installed.<br>
Run Firefox in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs.

• Can't create app tab groups in FF5 groups window dosen't appear

when I click the tab groups arrow on the upper right of the page the group window opens but all the tiny icons are in a vertical line on the right side of the window and when I try to drag one in to the center either the cursor turns into a move window and moves the whole window or when I click on the icon it takes me to that page. I have read ALL the instructions AND watched the video and what happens in that video DOES NOT happen on my screen. I can't find any helpful info

Solution clear all tabs. Then right click on individual bookmarks or bookmark folders and select open in new tab or open. They will all appear at top of screen. Then click on arrow as before and choose tab groups . They are all in one box you then move them out of box and put like with like. I have created 3 groups.
You can create as many as you like .
When you wish to open that group click on the arrow and then choose tab groups,at that point all of your groups appear choose the one you require click on that group .
Only the sights in that group appear on the tab bar. I trust this is helpful it worked for me.

• Need to Remove the tabs group Title from browser window title

When I use a saved tab group, which means I named that tab group in FF 5, the name of the tab group appears at the top of the browser along with the title of the web page I am viewing. Not good, I need to remove that tab group title from the browser window title, so I am only seeing the title of the webpage, and nothing from the tab group. How do I do that?
thanks

• How do I unclose a window and all its tab groups?

I have at least 100 tabs open in 5 or so groups, and then had another window open with nothing important in it. The main window was closed by Windows restart, and then the window with nothing in it was closed. When I start Firefox, it only opens the unimportant window, and the tab group page is empty. How do I get back my tabs and groups?

Oh duh. I got it. Under History there is "Recently Closed Tabs" and also "Recently Closed Windows"

• Can i retain my app tabs & tab groups in new firefox window after i close one ??

Just upgraded to Firefox 5 and used the awesome features of app tabs and tab groups, but ah ! i closed my browser and when i opened it again, everything was lost. :(
How can i retain my app tabs and tab groups when i open a new browser window after closing the one in which these were created ?
Will be a great help if we can do it.

Thx for your answer.
But when I select the option to empty everything when I close Firefox I can chose what is deleted
- Cookies
- Download history
- Cache
etc...
There should be an option for pinned tabs. Especially because this tabs are not simple tabs but tabs you want to keep.
The only solution I have found so far is to keep emptying everything and to ask to Firefox to start a folder of bookmarks as my homepage (homepage <=> several URLs separated with | )
But it opens wide tabs and not small pinned ones :/
We should have the option !

• Windows updates removes all tabs and tab groups so I have to regularly do a system restore to get them back.

When there is an automatic update from Windows or Microsoft Security Essentials, it regularly has removed all my tabs and tab groups. A very frustrating occurance so I have to do a system restore to get all these back. Any solutions to this issue?

After your computer restarts, you should be able to choose "Restore Previous Session" from Firefox's History menu to restore all your tabs and groups from last time.
For this to work, Firefox must be set to remember history in the Options window - Privacy panel.

• I hate Tabs (and tab groups), give me independent windows!

Raptor/SQLDev 10.1.3--1215
The little collapsing panes like Connections, Reports, Snippets work really well to maximize usable area, but constraining all the file windows to a single Raptor window is a pain in the neck.
I'm using Raptor on a two-screened Macintosh and I simply can't make use of all my screen if the edit windows all need to live in the main Raptor window.
This style of UI was created by Microsoft as "Multiple-Document Interface" in the early 1990's and frankly it never worked for me. I want to see windows side-by-side, I want to be able to overlap them partially when I need to without resizing them. And on my Mac, I have this cool Exposé feature letting me find independent windows really, really easily. Won't work with Raptor.
Please provide a way to have edit windows (or tab groups) outside the main Raptor frame.

I don't ever use it because I think it is odd to have tabs floating around my desktop but you can drag Snippets, Connections and Reports outside the SQL Developer Window - Detail tabs and the Worksheet can't be. Not sure if this works on a Mac or if this is what you were looking for but wanted to mention it.

• Is there a way to move tab group from one window to another?

I have several windows open, and some of them have multiple tab groups. Is there an easy way to move these tab groups between the windows?
I saw the workaround of making bookmarks of all the tabs in one group, move to the target window and open the bookmarks there.
To be honest I found this one a slow and messy way to do things and hope to find a better solution or raise this as a feature request.

Hi bsbs,
I don't think so, there are bugs that do exist about this as well

Patrick helped me find this add on where it groups tab groups into other groups, and there are bugs that have the [feature request] title in them.

• How are Tab Groups superior to using windows for tab groupings?

With Mac OS 10.5 I have been using windows as a defacto method for tab groupings. When tabs get two crowded, I open a new window. I have to move between windows to get to all tabs in a group.
The Tab Grouping instructions don't address moving tabs from multiple windows into a single large group, say, for charts on a large number of stocks.
[A disadvantage with my multiple window system has been my occasional misstep, e.g., closing a window full of tabs with the red button when I intended to minimize the widow with the yellow button, or, worse, when I get the option after a Firefox crash or power loss to Restore windows and tabs or Start a New Session and I hit the Start New session Button; in either event I lose the tabs and/or windows affected.]
