  • Import data from tsv (tab separated values) file

I have a large tab separated values file that I want to import into an oracle table so I can a) run queries on this data and b) split into smaller and more manageable files.
I'm very new to Oracle. I have installed 10g XE and sql_developer.
This tsv file has 3,684,011 rows. Maybe it could be imported into an Access DB then into Oracle, but that seems like extra work??

I have a text.tsv file (Google calls it a csv, but
that's their error) which I feel I should be able to
just drop onto AW and have it open in a spreadsheet.
All I get is a couple of odd characters in the A1
    cell.
Try dropping the file onto an open AppleWorks word processor document. If it is indeed a tab delimited text file, with no internal formatting information, you should then be able to copy it and paste into a spreadsheet.
Your comment regarding "a couple of odd characters in the A1 cell" indicates to me that there's more than simply text, tabs and returns in the file. If that's the case, you should be able to see the extra (often odd) characters in the WP document. If so, toggle 'Show invisibles' to on by pressing command-; (semi colon), then copy only the relevant text, tabs (will show as a right pointing arrow) and returns (will show as a reversed L haped arrow pointing left), and paste that block into your spreadsheet.

  • Pipe separated flat file upload

    Hi ALl,
Can any one tell me how to upload a flat file (field separator is pipe |) using the FM GUI_UPLOAD.
And than how to split the fields into there corresponding table-fields.
    Thanks in advance.
    regards
    satish.

Upload the flat file into a flat itab using the GUI_UPLOAD.
    Types: Begin of ttab,
           rec(1000) type c,
           end of ttab.
data: itab type table of ttab with header line.
After you have the data in the flat itab.  Loop thru it and split at the pipe(|).  Update another itab with your data.
data: Begin of itab2 occurs 0,
          field1(10) type c,
          field2(10) type c,
          field3(10) type c,
          endo of itab2.
    Loop at itab.
    split itab-rec at '|' into itab2-field1
                               itab2-field2
                               itab2-field3.
    append itab2.
    endloop.

Few things you could try are as:
Try to create a File send port and send this same file to a folder location.
Try to upload this same file to the FTP location using comamnd prompt instead using the FTP send port. Do this from the same BizTalk Server
I agree with others here, File content should not make any difference. You can enable logging to see more.

  • How do you import CSV, tab, and OFX files into multiple Numbers columns

This Apple function from Numbers '08 Help "Importing a Document" does not seem to work:
"You can create a new Numbers spreadsheet by importing a document created in Microsoft Excel or AppleWorks 6. Numbers can also import files in comma-separated value (CSV) format, tab-delimited format, and Open Financial Exchange (OFX) format."
No amount of experimenting with Import, Export, Save As, Paste and Match Style, or using other applications will enable importing CSV, tab, or OFX files into multiple Numbers columns. Instead, all data is imported into a single Numbers column, which then has to be manually and tediously parsed one data element at a time into columns, one row, and one column at a time.

    Jerrold Green1 wrote:
    Joe,
They all have worked here. I'm not presently able to try in Numbers 08, but I know I've done them all.
Just double-clicking a .csv file will open Numbers and display the data in a table. Dragging a .csv file to your Numbers icon on the Dock will open it as a Numbers table. Dragging it to a Sheet in an open Numbers document will make a new table in an existing document, and dragging to a table will insert the csv file into the table you dropped it into.
    CAUTION
With Numbers '08, CSV files must use the comma as delimiter on every setting of decimal separator.
    Numbers '09 behave differently.
With your tab-delimited file open in a word processor, copy it, then paste it into a table in an open Numbers document. When doing this, select a cell in the table, but don't double-click into the text field of the cell, then paste.
Why use this long road when we may import directly Tab Separated Values file (tsv.txt) with Numbers '08 (or '09) ?

  • Decimal point separator in flat file load

    Hi all
In BI 7.0 I'm stuck trying to load a csv flat file via DTP  (without extracting from PSA). The file I have to load has an euro amount field in this format:
    143565,56
but the load fails. The only way to load it's to open the csv with notepad and to "find and replace" the commas with dots before starting to load, in order to have:
    143565.56
I tried to modify the su01 settings for decimals separator, but without success, and I cant find any setting in the DTP. There is a way to load amounts whit the comma as decimal separator, avoiding to "find & replace" the file?
    Thank you in advance
    Francesco

Sorry but your hints dont work for me.
I checked in the Datasource Extraction tab and I specified the comma separator for decimal in User Select Entry, but without success (I tried both extracting from PSA and not).
I tried the su01 user setting for decimal separator, but it was already right (with comma), I think in the su01 you can set only visualization of amounts, for example in the Bex.
Before the upgrade at 7.0, the right decimal separator was the comma and we have a lot of excel macros that create csv with that decimal separator, so it's becoming a serious problem...
Just a question: where can I check, if exists a transaction code, the BW system setting for decimal and thousand separators (not the user's ones)?
    Thank you all
    Francesco

  • Table as tab separated columns in a file using Java

I want to design a general java procedure which will take a oracle table name as input and will store the fields of table separated by tabs in a file.
For this i need to have access to field names of tables as i have to store them as headings.
How to get field names as strings?
I know that this can better be created by using file package of oracle and writing a PL/SQL procedure, but it will store it on oracle server machine and i want the file to be on client.
    Any suggestions?
    -Sameer

In addition to having the data in the Oracle data dictionary, if you're writing a Java program you'll presumably be using JDBC which has a variety of MetaData classes that expose this sort of information.
If you're looking for speed, you might also search asktom.oracle.com for "SQL Unloader" which is a Pro*C program Tom Kyte wrote for this sort of thing.

  • Store table data in a tab separated file in oracle apex

How to store table data in a tab separated file in oracle apex ?
Suppose i have a table 'Table1' as shown below.
    id name
    1 x
    2 y
I want to get the result 'select * from table1;' into a tab separated file in oracle apex.

    For client you could
    - invoke call to Oracle Reports, where an .rdf is ready to generate one for you
    - utilise download as csv option in interactive reports
    - call page that generates csv using htp package (CSV Download without Header, possible?
    - modify an interactive report to do a similar thing (http://www.talkapex.com/2009/04/custom-download-for-apex-interactive.html)

  • Flat files data comma separated using SSIS.

    Hi,
I have multiple flat files which come in comma separated columns. See example below :
    Customer Data
    CustID,FName,LName,Disease,Email,Phone
    12345,Xyz,Smit,Bronchitis, Asthma and fever,[email protected],80000000
    12346,Abc,Doe,fever Headache,[email protected],90000000
    12347,Klu,joe,Sugar, cough and fever,[email protected],12345678
Please look at the ID's 12345 and 12347. The disease column has a internal comma space between. How do i remove the comma spaces in the disease column, so that it can be loaded from flat file to sql table using SSIS. ?
    Please help !
    Thanks

Here is a full solution base on my post above (first option)
    1. create temp table (Give it a unique name):
    create table #T (Txt NVARCHAR(MAX))
    GO
    2. Insert all the data into temporary table. Each line in the text file, is a value for one column in a row in the table.
-- I will jump to the table and use simple insert.
-- If you have problem with step 1 then please inform us (this is simple bulk insert basically)
    insert #T (Txt) values
    ('1234435,Xyz,Stemit,Brfsdonchitis, Asthma and fever,[email protected],80000000'),
    ('12346,Agjdfjbc,Doge,fevhhhher Headsxdshhache,[email protected],90000000'),
    ('123447,Klu,joe,Sugar, cough and fever,[email protected],12345678')
    GO
the result should be like this:
    Txt
    1234435,Xyz,Stemit,Brfsdonchitis, Asthma and fever,[email protected],80000000
    12346,Agjdfjbc,Doge,fevhhhher Headsxdshhache,[email protected],90000000
    123447,Klu,joe,Sugar, cough and fever,[email protected],12345678
I use a SPLIT Function named Split_CLR_Fn. This is a CLR Split function that get input <string to split> and <string as delimiter,> and it return table with 2 columns ID, SplitData
For example if you use: SELECT * from Split_CLR_Fn('text1,text2,text3,',') then you get result:
    ID SplitData
    1 Text1
    2 Text2
    3 Text3
** You can find in the internet several good functions, I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED NOT TO USE T-SQL FUNCTIONS but CLR FUNCTION. Check thi link to understand why:
    http://sqlperformance.com/2012/07/t-sql-queries/split-strings
** This is the best function that I know about and I use it, but I change the code a bit to return 2 columns and not just the SplitData as in this blog: http://sqlblog.com/blogs/adam_machanic/archive/2009/04/28/sqlclr-string-splitting-part-2-even-faster-even-more-scalable.aspx
That's it :-) we are ready for the solution which is very simple
Solution 1 (BAD solution but easy to write):
    select
(select SplitData from Split_CLR_Fn(Txt,',') where ID = 1) CustID,
(select SplitData from Split_CLR_Fn(Txt,',') where ID = 2) FName,
(select SplitData from Split_CLR_Fn(Txt,',') where ID = 3) LName,
    STUFF((select ',' + SplitData from Split_CLR_Fn(Txt,',') where ID > 3 and ID < (select MAX(ID) from Split_CLR_Fn(Txt,',')) - 1 for XML path('')), 1 , 1,'') Disease,
    (select SplitData from Split_CLR_Fn(Txt,',') where ID = (select MAX(ID) from Split_CLR_Fn(Txt,',')) - 1) Email,
(select SplitData from Split_CLR_Fn(Txt,',') where ID = (select MAX(ID) from Split_CLR_Fn(Txt,','))) Phone
    from #T
    GO
Solution 2: better in this case since the format is constant (this is the solution I wrote about above)
    ;With MyCTE as (
    select
    Txt,

  • Interface output file : tab limited vs flat file with fixed length

    hey guys,
any idea on difference b/w to file type : flat file with fixed length or tab limited file
    thanks

    Tab Delimited:
Two Field are seperated by a TAB
    eg. SANJAY    SINGH
First field is First Name and Second is Sir Name.
Nth field will be after N -1 tab
    Fixed Length:
Every field has a fixed starting position and length
    eg. SANJAY     SINGH
Here First field start from Position 1 and has lenght 10 and 2nd field start from 11th postion and has lenght 10.
Fixed Length -> The lenght of each field is fixed, while in tab delimited the lenght of field is not fixed but we know it ends when the Seperatot (Tab) is encountered.
