Table numbering is skewed after 'delete' instance

I have a table that automatically numbers each added row of data. Unfortunately, if a row is deleted, the numbering is skewed.
Here is the script I use:  form1.MinutesTable.Row1.Index::initialize - (JavaScript, client)
this.rawValue = this.parent.index + 1
If anyone knows why this is happening and what I can do to prevent it, I would appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance,
Jenny

    Then you should check out the documentation some more.
    But even if you shrink the table segement what is that going to do for the data file size?
    I don't undertand you.
    ThanksYour thread is titled "Table space not reduce after delete in oracle 11G" which implies to me that you are interested in reducing the size of a tablespace (which really means reducing the size of the underlying datafile(s)).
    So, if you shrink the size of the sys.aud$ table, will that cause the datafile(s) to become smaller? Will it accomplish your goal? What else, if anything, needs to happen?

  • Table size not reducing after delete

    The table size in dba_segments is not reducing after we delete the data from the table. How can i regain the space after deleting the data from a table.
    Regards,
    Natesh

    I think when you do DELETE it removes the data but
    it's not releasing any used space and it's still
    marked as used space. I think reorganizing would help
    to compress and pack all block and relase any unused
    space in blocks. Why do you think that? Deleting data will create space that can be reused by subsequent insert/ update operations. It is not going to release space back to the tablespace to make it available for inserts into other tables in the tablespace, but that's not generally an issue unless you are permanently decreasing the size of a table, which is pretty rare.
    Would you also please explain about different about
    LOB and LONG ? or point me to any link which explain
    baout it.From the Oracle Concepts manual's section on the LONG data type
    "Note:
    Do not create tables with LONG columns. Use LOB columns (CLOB, NCLOB) instead. LONG columns are supported only for backward compatibility.
    Oracle also recommends that you convert existing LONG columns to LOB columns. LOB columns are subject to far fewer restrictions than LONG columns. Further, LOB functionality is enhanced in every release, whereas LONG functionality has been static for several releases."
    LONG was a very badly implemented solution to storing large amounts of data. LOBs are a much, much better designed solution-- you should always be using LOBs.

  • Percentage of used table space not reduce after deletion

    Hi..

    .. How could i check the real free tablespace or real usage table space ?If you have gathered statistics on the schema recently, then sum (avg_row_len*num_rows) should give you the exact number of bytes that are being consumed - assuming all tables are in a single tablespace under consideration. You can subtract this value from sum (dba_data_files.bytes) figure for the tablespace, to know exact free space.

  • TABLE SIZE NOT DECREASING AFTER DELETION. BLOCKS NOT BEING RE-USED

    Hi ,
    Problem:
    Table size before deletion: 40GB
    Total rows before deletion: over 200000
    Rows deleted=190000 rows
    Table size after deletion is more (as new data was inserted meanwhile).
    Purpose of table:
    This table is a sort of transaction table.
    Whenever an SR is raised by CSR, data gets inserted into this table and is removed when the status is cleared.
    So there is constant insertion and purging will happen on this table.
    We are using ASSM and tablespace is LOCAL.
    This Table has a LONG column also.
    Is this problem because of LONG column ?
    So here there are 2 problems.
    1) INSERTs are not using the space created by DELETE.
    2) New INSERTs are taking much more space then expected ?
    Let me have your suggestion

  • Table space not reduce after delete in oracle 10g

    Hi..
    Based on my system, i have found that my oracle table space did not reduce after the deletion query. Why ?.. Could somebody help me. As your info, I am using oracle 10g.
    Thank you,
    Baharin

    After Delete the table space will not be set free. high water mark will not be reset. to regain the space you need to recognize the objects from which you deleted the data. This can be done in many ways.
    1) Move the objects.
    Alter table temp move --> optionally tablespace clause can be used. After this you need to rebuild table indexes.
    2) With 10g table can be shrinked or reorganize to free the space.
    alter table mytable enable row movement;
    alter table mytable shrink space;
    3) Export/Import
    export the objects and drop and recreate with import.

  • Table space not reused after deletion ?

    Hi..
    I am running on oracle 10g. Based on my system, i have created one query to delete old data from the table on daily basis. Below the sample query :-
    delete from SNP_EXP_TXT
    where I_TXT in (select I_TXT_SESS_MESS from SNP_SESSION
    where SESS_END < trunc(SYSDATE - 1));
    I have check on the database and all the old data are deleted from the table. But, I am confused why the table space keep increasing even the old data has been deleted.
    I am assume that the problem because of the table space cannot be reused after the deletion. Could somebody help me how could i verified that and how could i ensure that all the table space can be reused ?
    Thank you,
    Baharin

    Is there only one table, or are there other objects in the tablespace ? Are you sure this is the table that is growing ?
    select segment_name, segment_type, bytes from dba_segments where tablespace = 'XXX';
    It will also depend on how the data is inserted ? If you insert append, then it will grow the table.

  • The detail part of table doesn't refresh after deleting a row

    Hello!
    I'm developing a Master-Detail table with some a functionality. Particularly, I want to invoke a DELETE function in the Detail part of the table.
    For this purpose, I placed a Command button to the tableSelectOne component of the Detail part of the table, which stores current row key and calls another page. On this (<another>) page I created a ReadOnly form with data related to the row of Detail table, which key is stored. In addition, I added there two Command buttons. First of them is a CancelButton, which does nothing except returning to master-detail page. The second is a DeleteButton, which executes a RemoveEntity method and returns to master-detail page, too.
    When I'm tried to delete in this way a row from detail part of table, I discovered, that this row is really deleted from the database, but it doesn't affect on the content of the Detail part of the table. Any kinds of refreshing couldn't aid me, only restart of the application.
    Could anybody help me to solve this problem?
    Thank in advance.

    Hi,
    I'm facing the same problem but Frank's solution doesn't fix it.
    you need to define an invoke action in the binding
    for your m/d page and set it into the page binding's
    execute section. Then set the condition for invoking
    the action to !postback. This will re-execute the
    iteratorThis efectively re-executes the iterator, so the master table data is refreshed. You can see the TopLink log showing the query to the db (I'm using TopLink instead of BC). The problem is that the detail rows are queried only once and only the inserts and updates are displayed, not the deletes.
    I think the problem may be related to PPR or some cache issue.
    See the BC tutorial
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/ADFBC_tutorial_10
    13/ADFBC_tutorial.pdf
    See page 86 "Adding the ServiceHistories Data". This
    defines a invoke action for this kinf of task. More
    example code is contained in the SRDemo sampleThe tutorial doesn't contain a scenario with master-detail deleting detail records (neither the BC tutorial, nor the TopLink one) so it can't help me :(
    The only solution I can think of is using a different model method (a method in the SessionFacade for TopLink) for the detail table (one that takes the master PK as parameter and retrieves the corresponding detail records) and have a selectionListener in the selection component of the master re-execute the method (passing the PK from the master table current row).
    Is there a solution that doesn't require the use of a separate method for the detail?
    Thanks,
    Miguel

  • Numbering not continuing after table

    I have a strange thing happening with a numbered list.
    First, I created a style named "List number 1" and entered information as follows:
    1. Step 1
    2. Step 2
    Between step 2 and what SHOULD be step 3, I added a table with one row and one column. When I go to number the next step, I get Step 4.
    e.g.
    1. Step 1
    2. Step 2
    Header 1
    Header 2
    4. Step
    I made sure that the table is not style "List number 1" so I'm a little confused on why this is happening.
    Any suggestions??

    I'm not really sure why its happening, but I can tell you how to recreate it and how to get rid of it.
    Make a paragraph style that has numbering on (I just made a new one that was identical to the Basic but changed it to a numbered list)
    Make a text frame
    Type a few characters then a return
    Repeat step 3 a few times (I made three paragraphs in total)
    Insert a table after the third paragraph return (doesn't matter how many cells), click below the table to move the cursor from the first cell in the table to after the table and hit return
    Repeat step 3 a few more times
    At this point, I have paragraphs 1-3, a table, and tparagraphs 4-6, with the table not being numbered.
    Now, if you place the cursor after the last keystroke in the third paragraph (you may want to show Hidden Characters in the Type menu at this point) and hit the right arrow button, it will place the cursor just before the table in the 4th paragraph. If you insert a character (I used a spaceband), the table will jump down a line and a #4  with a space will appear above it. If you hit the delete key to remove the character, the table will jump back up but still be numbered 4. But, if you hit delete again (placing the table in the third paragraph, or sort of, an inline object would be in the third paragraph, but tables seem to act a little differently) then hit return, it will place the table back into the 4th paragraph, and it won't be numbered (the paragraph after the table will be numbered 4 instead of 5).
    If anyone can explain why this happens, I'd be interested.

  • Space reusage after deletion in compressed table

    Hi,
    Some sources tell, that free space after DELETE in compressed table is not reused.
    For example, this http://www.trivadis.com/uploads/tx_cabagdownloadarea/table_compression2_0411EN.pdf
    Is it true?
    Unfortunatly I cannot reproduce it.

    Unfortunatly the question is still open.
    In Oracle 9i space, freed after DELETE in compressed block, was not reused in subsequent inserts.
    Isn't it?
    I saw many evidences from other people. One link I gave above.
    But in Oracle 10g I see another figures. After delete rows in compressed blocks, and subsequent insert into that block, block defragmented!
    Please, if who know any documentation about change in this behavior, please post links.
    p.s.
    in 10g:
    1. CTAS compress. Block is full.
    2. after, deleted every 4 from 5 rows.

    New rows (inserted after compressing of table) fill remaining space.
    So, deleted space was reused.

  • Release of space after delete/truncate table

    Hello,
    How does release of space after delete/truncate table works? Is the space used before deletion released once delete is complete or not? Will I see the space occupied by deleted table as free in dba_segments or will I need to reorganize the table (drop and recreate again?). Reason why I am asking is that I can see table with 0 rows, but in dba_segment I can see it is occupying few gigabytes....

  • Sending email after deleting the records in a table

    Hi
    I am deleting the records in a table. After deleting the records,
    i want to send an email to another person. I am planning to follow this steps.
    1. Create a trigger on the table(AFTER DELETE ON table FOR EACH ROW)
    to copy the deleted records to temporary table.
    2. Read the temporary table and send an email.
    Is there any other way we can do with out creating temporary table ?.
    Govind

    I don't know what you plan to use to send the mail but here's a solution that would work.
    -- Create a send mail procedure
    create or replace procedure send_mail (
    sender      IN VARCHAR2,
    recipient   IN VARCHAR2,
    message     IN VARCHAR2)
    IS
      mailhost VARCHAR2(30) := 'localhost';
      mail_conn utl_smtp.connection;
    BEGIN
    mail_conn :=  utl_smtp.open_connection(mailhost, 25);
      utl_smtp.helo(mail_conn, mailhost);
      utl_smtp.mail(mail_conn, sender);
      utl_smtp.rcpt(mail_conn, recipient);
      utl_smtp.data(mail_conn, message);
      utl_smtp.quit(mail_conn);
    END;
    /-- Create the trigger to email deleted rows
    create or replace trigger email_del_rows
    after delete on <table>
    for each row
    declare
    msg varchar2(2000);
    begin
    msg := 'COL1  COL2  COMPANY NAME  DATE'||chr(10);
    msg := msg||:old.col1||'    '||:old.col2||'    '||:old.company_name||'       '||:old_date|| chr(10);
    msg := msg||'END OF FILE';
    send_mail('SENDER','[email protected]',msg);
    end;
    /You can make it look pretty but you get the basic idea.

  • Tree Table Selection after deletion

    Hi,
    We have a tree table where we are displaying hierarchy of information. We have a "Delete" operation. This operation is available in the context menu associated to each node. When user selects "Delete" operation, the selected row is deleted and the next node is automatically selected. We have implemented a selection listener on this table but when this automatic selection happens after deletion this event is not triggered. How do we trigger the selection event after deletion? We require the selection event because, we are keeping track of the selected nodes. Even for delete, we are identifying the item to be deleted from the list of tracked nodes. When this auto selection happens and the user clicks delete menu, the auto selected row it is not available in the tracked list as the selection listener is not fired for the auto selection.
    Can any throw some light on how to address this?
    thanks,

    Hi,
    what if - after deleting a node - you call for the selectedRowKeys on the tree to get the new selected row. This way you can update what otherwise the listener does.
