TableCellRenderer -- not showing as "selected" in JTable

Hi,
I have a a JTable, and for one of my columns, i do
for (int i = 0; i < dataModel.getColumnCount(); i++) {
     column = table.getColumnModel().getColumn(i);
          if (i ==0)
                 column.setCellRenderer(new NotificationCellRenderer());
     private class NotificationCellRenderer implements TableCellRenderer {
          public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table, Object value, boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int column) {
               JLabel label = new JLabel(String.valueOf(value));
               label.setToolTipText(label.getText() + " and more description goes here");
               return label;
     }so it looks fine...but then when i select a row in my table, all the cells of the row are "highlighted" with the blue color...except for the column which uses that cell renderer....
how can fix this?

Or, maybe an easier approach is to override the getToolTipText(...) method of JTable:
        JTable table = new JTable(data, columnNames)
            public String getToolTipText( MouseEvent e )
                int row = rowAtPoint( e.getPoint() );
                int column = columnAtPoint( e.getPoint() );
                Object value = getValueAt(row, column);
                return value == null ? null : value.toString();
        };
