Tables and cells
Hello
I am presently working on a 350 pages report with 6 different tables that are used often.
These tables have all the same width but different columns.
I made different styles of table, cells paragraphs and everything is fine, my only problem is that by default all the columns are equal and I have to manually adjust the width of every table.
Is it possible to give columns a value in the style sheet that will be applied automatically to every tables ?
I found nothing in the style sheet permitting me to do this
Thank You
Thank you very much for your quick reply.
Bonne journée (have a nice day)!

Unfortunately you've discovered an ugly truth about tables and styles in ID. Perhaps saving a blank table as a snippet would work?

I prepare chronologies in word, and I am trying to do the same in pages using tables and cells. But sometimes I need a cell to wrap onto the next page because the contents are bigger than the page or the space left on the page, but I can't work out how to do it - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

What are the different opinions on why pages should not achieve this?
As far as I know, Apple is free to choose to offer this or that feature.
They never said that they want to clone Word or even compete with it.
Differences between tables in both worlds are numerous.
In Pages (or Numbers)
- we can't sort a single column
- we can't sort by row
- we can't insert or remove a single cell
- a cell can't cross pages boundaries
If I understand well these design choices match :

Apple Human Interface Guidelines:
Apply the 80 Percent Solution
During the design process, if you discover problems with your product design, you might consider applying the 80 percent solution‚ that is, designing your software to meet the needs of at least 80 percent of your users. This type of design typically favors simpler, more elegant approaches to problems.
If you try to design for the 20 percent of your target audience who are power users, your design may not be usable by the other 80 percent of users. Even though that smaller group of power users is likely to have good ideas for features, the majority of your user base may not think in the same way. Involving a broad range of users in your design process can help you find the 80 percent solution.

Is there a way to reference just a sheet (not table and cell)
I want to have a profile overview sheet tat will draw from individual profile sheets. Is there a way to set up a cell with which table and cell to draw from, but then make it draw the sheet name from a different cell. That way I can fill in the sheet name in the appropriate cell, and all the other cells would automatically draw from the appropriate sheet.
Any tips or advise would be appreciated.=IFERROR(INDIRECT(A1 & " :: Table 1 :: A2"),"")
or
=IF(A1="","",INDIRECT(A1 & " :: Table 1 :: A2"))
The first will capture errors caused by A1 being blank and errors caused by A1 specifying a non-existent sheet (i.e., typos). The second one prevents errors caused by A1 being blank but will still give an error if you specify a non-existent sheet.. -
Tables and Cells - can all corners and cells be rounded?
I need to recreate a form and it requires a lot of round "cubes" thoughout. If these were squares, I would be doing this creating tables and cells but because most everything in it seems to have rounded corners, thats making me question the best way of going about this. Is this possible somehow?
Another way to do it would be to add anchored objects inside your table to mimic the rounded corners as shown in the following screen capture.
The first exemple is relatively easy, needing only one object per cell, except for the top row and the left column which need nothing.
The second one is more difficult, especially for the surroundings which needs more than one anchored object (especially the last cell which inherited five of them).
But both of these are still tables and can be adjusted as needed in width and height.
This could prove usable if you can trust the people doing the editing inside the table and this doesn't mess with the printing.
(the inspiration for abusing tables and anchored objects in this way comes from Michael Murphy).

Tables and cells in Pages for iPad
I am using Pages for iPad. I am writing in a table and when I write a large content in a cell, it desappears on the bottom of the page.
Is there any way to make the cell to split automatically when it reaches the bottom of the page?
Thank you for your answers.You could send your need to Apple and maybe they will add it.
Send feedback/suggestions to Apple.

Also, I read that Microsoft may soon provide and Office version for Apple's iDevices.

I'm using CS4. I set up a table style in my style sheet that
calls for a 2 px wide orange border. The border only outlines the
entire table but not the individual cells. Does anyone know how I
can fix that in the style sheet?
The URL is
http://www.virginiacpac.org/pages/conference.html
Thanks,Sure,
Your table has a class of table_border, so your CSS is saying
give the table
a border that's 2px solid and orange:
.table_border {
border: 2px solid #E2832F;
padding: 2px;
That results in a border around the table only.
You wanted to give the cells in the table the border, so this
CSS...
.table_border td {
border: 2px solid #E2832F;
padding: 2px;
...says to give every cell (td) that is inside an element
with the class of
table_border (your table) an orange border.
Now, because each cell has a border of 2px, adjacent cells
appear to have a
4px border.
Applying border-collapse:collapse to the table takes care of
this.
.table_border {
border-collapse:collapse;
http://www.w3schools.com/Css/pr_tab_border-collapse.asp
Take care,

Problems w/Tables and Cells
Unfortunately I am still using EW and have run into a problem I can't seem to get a grip on. Thus I have several tables w/n tables.
Problem is that tables/cells do not seem to have their usual borders. At this place on web page,
Ad Could Go Here - $300.00 / Month, if I change alignment from left to center and back, all the cells below this one changes accordingly. After that, no change using table/cell properties will get them to act independently of one another.
In order to fix like it was originally, I have to use the undo button. Not sure when this started happening but it did not start out this way.
Web page is http://www.bladencountytimes.com/agriculture.html.
krpYour table cells are styles with a mix of inline HTML attributes (e.g.: valign="top"), inine styles (e.g.: style="width: 20%; text-align: center"), and references to auto styles defined elsewhere on the page (e.g.: class="auto-style7").
You have a table inside a cell, and the table itself has styling.
How each cell looks depends on the combinations of all of those.
You didn't post a link to two pages we could compare (or even to one containing "Ad could go here"), so I have no idea what you did that caused a result you didn't expect, but I will point out that you need to know all of the styles applied,
and how they combine (which one wins if they conflict) to know what to expect from a change you are making.
With the individual per-cell styling you are using, the easiest way to make changes is to look in the HTML view and make them by hand. -
Dreamweaver CS3 - layout tables and cells
I just installed the new Studio CS3 on my Mac , and I have
been trying to layout a new html page in Dreamweaver. I can draw
tables, but not cells! I check the Dreamveaver CS3 help "About
Layout Mode" thinking that this may be one of the functions that
have changed in the new version, but apparently it has not. Also, I
can not resize the div tags by draging the edges.
Can anyone help me with some advise?
Thank you.tfraga wrote:

Layout Mode has been removed from the Insert bar because it
produces
such poor quality code. The best advice to you is to learn
the basics of
HTML and CSS. You'll then find Dreamweaver a lot easier to
use.

How can I export table and cell styles to use in another InDesign document?
I've been looking…and looking but can't find out how to export table styles within InDesign CC. If there is a load table styles option within the panel, it stands to reason there should be an export. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Frank, John's solution is it. But that also requires that you have those old files easily on hand to access. Maybe even searching for them in the future, 3 months down the road, could be a pain. You can always save a Library for that file and drag some of those styled elements into that library. Save the library in a place that you will keep access to and readily pull assets from. In the future doc open that library and drag the styled element into your new document and the styles are now in the new doc to reuse. I have a library saved just for tables.

Should tables and cells be pixel based or percentage.
Anyway, my question is, when I make my table pixel based, and test in the browser, they seem to be very controlled like I want. However, when I make the percentage based, they seem to stretch the tables away from each other and the webpage is stretched out to far and I didn't design them that way.
I am not going about this correctly? I'm using GL 6.
I'm following instructions in lynda.com and I don't know if the tutorials are up to date enough since things change a lot.
I don't know if the rules of html change that much over time.
Any way I don't know if I'm going about this correctly.
Any help would be appreciated.

How do you have the bottom stroke of a table show up using Table Styles and Cell Styles only?
I am using InDesign CS6, and I want to create a Table Style that has the bottom stroke show up, but does not have a table border, such as:
However, whenever I try to change the Table or Cell strokes so that the last stroke shows up, I get the entire table border, or some strange combination of borders:
Does anyone have any insight on how I can get the bottom stroke to show up while preserving my other stroke properties? Since I work with long documents, it's necessary to be able to control all of my tables through Table Styles and Cell Styles, and not by manually changing each and every table with the Stroke palette.
For reference, here are the my current Table Style properties and the resulting table:Michael Murphy is the InDesign style-meister. He wrote "Adobe InDesign Styles" for Adobe Press, and did a great Lynda.com title on InDesign styling. Here's what he says in the book:
"As mentioned at the beginning of this chapter, with all the power of table and cell styles, it is important to understand not only how they work and what they can do for you, but also to understand their limitations.
"Two formatting features missing in table and cell styles have already been discussed: You will always have to set the column width and row height of cells when applying a table style for the first time, and you will always have to convert body rows to header and/or footer rows every time you apply a table style for first time or update the table's data....
"But there's another kind of limitation that's important to keep in mind as you are designing tables: It is very easy to design a table that cannot be completely defined by a table style. In many cases, you'll need to define an extra cell style or two that lets you complete for formatting. [my emphasis]."
So I think that's what you have to do: Apply another cell style on top of the cells at the bottom of the table after applying the table style. -
I am having trouble displaying a table after I apply
conditional tags. The error does not occur until after I apply tags
to hide rows. It does not occur if I'm hiding just text within a
cell. I am not applying the tags to the table, just content and
then just a row of cells.
I have tested this and if I'm tagging only the content within
the cell the table maintains the width of the cell and table.
However, when I apply tags to hide a whole row, the table and cells
shrink to 1/4 of the size.
I am using RH7. I have used tags in previous versions and
have not run across this problem before.
Does anyone have any idea why applying tags to hide a row is
creating this issue?
CindyIt seems like the conditional tags in tables does not work
for me via WYSIWYG. When I selected the row, regardless of whether
it was highlighting the cell from top left to lower right or from
selecting the whole row from hovering on the left til the arrow
appeared, the row tag (<TR>) was not not being picked up,
only the cells (<TD>) therefore, only each individual cell
was getting the conditional tag versus the whole row.
So when the output was selected, the table didn't know what
to do because it looked like it was condensing the row to
0...meaning it saw a row with no columns. It got confused because
it looked like I wanted the columns to be hidden in one view, but
not the row.
To solve this problem (at least in RH7) so that the table
would not shrink to 1/4 of the stated width, I removed all the
conditional tags, then in HTML applied the x-condition: Tag; to the
row (<TR>), not to the cells (<TD>). The row is the
only part of the code that has the conditional tag, the cells do
not have the tag.
Although tedious because my tables are long, it has worked
perfectly on 3 of the tables I have done this to so far.
Not sure why the WYISWYG view is not grabbing the rows, but
at least I have a work around that I can live with. -
How to disable a single cell in a table (and not the whole column)
Hi there,
I've got a webdynpro table with a few columns, rows can be created dynamically through a button in the table toolbar.
Depending on the value of a certain cell I have to disable another cell (in the same row).
I tried to manipulate the view in the modifyview but no joy. I also tried to manipulate the attribute property through the coding below:
DATA lv_knttp TYPE knttp.
lo_nd_kostl = wd_context->path_get_node( path = `MULTIVALUES.KOSTL` ).
lo_el_kostl = lo_nd_kostl->get_element( ).
lo_el_kostl->set_attribute_property(
attribute_name = 'LTEXT'
property = lo_el_kostl->e_property-enabled
value = ''
but it disables the whole column!!!! I just need the cell to be disabled (I thought the code above, through the lead selection, would affect a certain cell only - but I was wrong).
Any ideas?
Thanks!!!Hi,
using cell variants you can do this.,
check this article: [Cell Variants in WDA|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/WDABAP/WebDynproforABAPCellVariants]
Instead of binding the read only property of table as a whole , just bind the read only property of column group of table., You can do this bu drill down the table and select the required column and bind the read only column.,
then In onAction Event of button .,
loop the table, if condition satisfied set the read only property to true else false.,!!
hope this helps u.,
Thanks & regards,

Help please!!!!!!> How would you about designing a page without using html?
You don't. But I don't recall suggesting that you not use
HTML. I just
suggested that you use best-practice HTML, no? Or maybe you
meant to ask
how you would go about building your site without learning
HTML? In that
case, I think you are outta luck. Using DW without knowing
HTML is a very
punishing experience, I'm afraid.

Display data in bold and red in color in side a table control cell
Hi,
I need to display data in side a Table Control cell with Bold and Red in color, can any body help me how to do it.
Regards,
