Tabular form question

How can I immediately use an automatically generated PK which is created when I add new row to a tabular form and then click on the Submit button?

This is best accomplished with a trigger. The database takes care of it and APEX can take advantage of it.
This type of trigger would be known as an AFTER INSERT trigger that would be placed on table A. The body of the trigger would look something like this:
begin
new_val number;
if (:new.id is null) then
select table_a_sequence.nextval into new_val from dual;
:new.id := new_val;
end if;
insert into table_b (fk_to_table_a_id)
values (new_val);
end;Caution: this is untested code for demonstration only. Adjust for your purpose.

  • Manually tabular form question

    hi all
    i built a manually tabular form.
    i want that this tabular for will used only to update , and without the option of insert new row .
    two questions i have here according to the document :
    there is something called
    Adding Optimistic Lockingoptimistic locking
    is that possible to do it if it's only an update form?
    i've tried to do it and not really succeeded.
    second question is about collection
    again is this possible to do it if i built only an update form ?
    thanks for quick response

    Hi Naama,
    >> i've created the package , it's show like it done but then i cannot see it.what seems to be the problem ?
    I have no idea, but this is definitely something local in your database. Just drop the package and re-create it. If the Object Browser doesn’t show you the package, try to use SQL*Plus.
    >> what is the meaning of this package?
    is this package active only in the tabular manually form ?.
    This is a regular PL/SQL package, and with the proper privileges, can be used anywhere on the database, with or without APEX connection.
    This package is “special” because it’s includes all you need to manage Optimistic Locking, which is characteristic to Web based applications. Other than that, you can use it whenever you need to manipulate the related table(s).
    >> the apex know in which part to relate in the package right ?
    APEX don’t know anything. When you are building a manual tabular form, it is also your responsibility to construct the proper DML processes. If you want your tabular form to support insert/update/delete you’ll need to construct three processes, each with the proper DML statement, each condition by the proper button. In your private case, as you need to support update only, you’ll need to build only one DML process (PL/SQL anonymous block), which will call the proper update procedure from the package.

    Naama
    Wow! You signed your name correctly :) You should amend your handle to reflect that.

    Arie.

  • Dynamic Action On change tabular form question

    Hi guys!
    I've wanted to add dynamic action on change (tabular form) to execute PL/SQL which checks if column of the tabular form has changed and if yes it changes walue of text field to Y or N. It doesnt work...and I don't know why. If I create validation with this PL/SQL it works. Can you help?
    DA:
    On change - Tabular Form
    PL/SQL;
    DECLARE
       nazwa     VARCHAR2(4000);
       counter   NUMBER := 0;

      END IF;
    END;Page items to submit: P5_IS_TABULAR_FORM_CHANGE
    What's wrong?
    With regards,
    PsmakR

    Region static id shouldn be in bracketsYou missed the '#' informt of the region id.
    why my original PL/SQL process did not work
    FOR i IN 1 .. apex_application.g_f08.COUNTThis works only when the application array has values and that happens only when the page is submitted.When you submit the dynamic action , it isn't.
    This script combined with script to detect changes makes apex page running very slowIf you use that PLSQL code(assuming it works as expected) , then its going to take a server request every-time you change a field in the tabular form and loop though all the array values(if they would be submitted before) and recalculate and compare the checksums . Isn't that going to be very inefficient.
    As for that JS code, it only runs at the client side. You can do all the server side checks on submit, when the user expects some delay due to processing.

  • Tabular forms question

    This should be a simple one. I have a tabular form right now but I have a field in that form I want read only when another field in the record is not null (ie. you are not adding a new record). Any ideas here? For the record were running APEX 3.1.2.

    I got to doing some digging after I posted this and I found some interesting stuff using javascript but because of DB Links I kept running into db consistency errors (where apex complains constantly that there the database version had changed since you started the action). In the end I abandoned tabular forms entirely because I have always ended up with them in the same position of the database version constantly changing and they end up un-usable. What I would love to see and would really help me out the most once 4.0 comes would be for APEX to support automatic operations over a dblink without the need for local views or having to write a plsql interface package for the remote tables so I can use forms over procedures.

  • Row selector in tabular form question

    hi all,
    i needed to use the tabular form for the report because i needed the row selector. i have around a 100 records on this. but each page shows only 15 rows which is fine. the problem i'm having is that if i wanted to select more than 1 record and these records are located on different pages of the report, how do i set the report to remember all the records i've selected?
    i noticed that for example, page 1 shows records 1 - 15 then i checked record 1, then move to the next page for records 16 - 30. here i select record 20. then when i do a transaction, only record 30 is processed and record 1 is disregarded.
    can anyone help me with this?
    thanks
    allen

    Hi,
    You should perhaps use collections. Collections are session based and can be used in a similar way as having a temp table and what you could do is store your data within the collection and then save the "selections" you made to the collection which would make your tabular form remember what you have seelected and therefore you could retrieve 1- 10 rows and then paginate to the next 10 rows.

  • Customer Tabular Form Questions

    I am following the white paper on creating a tabular form from scratch using Html DB ver. 1.6 and having trouble getting the report to show columns as fields. In 1.6 -- There is no 'create sql report (updateable) when you are creating the page. So I had to create the page as a SQL query, then go back and change the region definition type to "SQL query - updateable report, but the rows are still not updatable. What am I missing here?
    Here is my SQL:
    select
    htmldb_item.hidden(1,T.EMP_ID_FK) EMP_ID,
    T.HOUR_TYP,
    T.SUN_HR,
    T.MON_HR,
    T.TUE_HR,
    T.WED_HR,
    T.THU_HR,
    T.FRI_HR,
    T.SAT_HR
    from #OWNER#.HR_TIMESHEET T, #OWNER#.HR_EMPLOYEE E
    WHERE T.EMP_ID_FK=E.EMP_ID AND
    UPPER(E.Lname) = UPPER (SUBSTR(:APP_USER,2))
    Also,
    I am creating this page to capture the daily hours worked based on a value entered in a different region (week ending date) -- So week ending date is not part of the tabular form report region (which is just capturing the hours worked by day (M-Sun). When they submit, it should insert the hours by day and the week ending date in the same table.
    Is it possible to do this with a tabular form (created from scratch?).
    Thanks,
    Jeffrey

    The form that is using the tabular form has columns such as hour_type (OT, Regular, Sick) and then has columns for each day. The TAble has these columns as well as a week ending date. For one week ending date, their could be 3 or more rows:
    example: 1 row for hours of OT by day
    1 row for Regular hours by day
    1 row for Vacation hours by day
    I would like to have the week ending date in a different region (that also details the employees personal information) -- and the user would select the w/end date from a date picker within this region.
    This also would help by letting the employee enter the w/end date and then he/she could see their hours for that w/end date.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Manual Tabular Form Formatting Questions

    Hello, this is my first time using a tabular form and am now trying to tackle creating a manual tabular form. So, now I have some questions on formatting.
    1. Is it proper on this forum to lump several similar questions together or should these be separate postings?
    2. I have a hidden column that I do not want to display on the screen at all. However, I need access to the column later when saving. I am currently using the htmldb_item.hidden function to retrieve the field. This works. However, the column still displays but the value does not display. I then tried to uncheck the show attribute for the column to unchecked. Unfortunately, if this is not selected, when using the htmldb_application.g_f01 function, I would receive an error as if the column did not exist. How do I make the column totally hidden so that it does not display at all?
    3. I have a number column where I want the column to display in dollars (i.e. $100, 000). I tried to set the number format on the column in the report attributes. However, no luck. To retrieve the column, I am using the function htmldb_item.text to retrieve the column. I am not sure if I should be able to format the column in the report attributes or if the htmldb_item.text function has a parameter that I could use for formatting. Suggestions?
    4. Similarily, I would like to right justify this column. How is this accomplished?
    Thanks

    Hi everyone,
    Is there any way to not to display the hidden columns in the manual tabular forms,when we create the manual tabular form using htmldb_item.hidden.
    But need to refer that column in the process.
    In the wizard generated tabular form if the column is of type HIDDEN we dont see that column on the report.
    How can i achieve the same in manual tabular forms..
    Thanks

  • Question about manual tabular forms

    Hello. I have a manual tabular form which has a some select_list_from_query items, text_from_lov_query, hidden, etc. I have not found a way to have one of the select lists based on one of the hidden items. Is it possible for the select list query to use other items from the form's select statement? In the code sample below I would like group_number to be based on the board_group_type_id.
    Thank you,
    -Carmine
    select
    htmldb_item.hidden(4,board_group_type_id) board_group_type_id,
    htmldb_item.select_list_from_query(7,group_number,
      'select m.valid_group_number d, m.valid_group_number r

         and b.board_group_type_id = '|| TO_CHAR(board_group_type_id) ||
      ' order by 1',

  • Simple question about tabular forms: error in MRU

    hi to all,
    i write here to check if what i think about tabular forms is confirmed.
    If i build a master- detail or tabular form and the underlying table are modified, the page where the tabulare form is contained doesn't work anymore.
    if what i've written above is correct, is there a way to realign the fields of the tabular forms to the db fields and make my page work again without rebuilding all?
    Can i modify something, somewhere inside apex to make my page run again?
    The error i get (in italian / english)
    Error in mru internal routine: ORA-20001: Errore in MRU: riga= 0, ORA-20001: ORA-20001: La versione corrente dei dati nel database è cambiata da quando l'utente ha iniziato il processo di aggiornamento. checksum corrente = "ED73B05FA6016F8D5F3B4B5B69AF482D", checksum elementi = "CFD72DCC4221A340057D654B54EA7A04"., update "NEWPROJ"."CNT_VAL_SEG_DEMO" set "ID" = :b1, "FK_CNT" = :b2
    Means: The version of data in db (fields of the tables?) has changed since the user started the update process.
    By the way this sentence under my opinion can trick you as
    in italian 'La versione corrente dei dati nel database'
    can means both that data contained in tables have changed (dml error / process error / data the user see not are the real underlying data). Can mean as well the field definition is changed, however a more meaningful message in italian is: ' la definizione delle tabelle usate dall'oggetto tabular form é cambiata'.
    That translated in english is ' DDL of table/s used by tabular form has changed'.
    thanx a lot

    HI Heinz,
    yes is now clear, however is a pity that a litte change in the query has a lot of
    implications: a change in the structure of DB means new feature / the data model is not alligned with current requirement. So usually (but not always) it means changing the SELECT as well.
    Such Apex is a Rad an impression is that if you build a complex forms with several linked reports / field and one day you have to change the query of the TABULAR FORM / MASTER DETAIL generated with report you get a lot of rebuilding.
    I think i will avoid the use of this 2 object in the future and use more htmldb.items in the select.
    bye bye

    LTaura wrote:
    what does the built-in tabular form and break functionality do ?The built-in tabular form wizard generates the tabular form report and ApplyMRU and ApplyMRD processes to handle the submitted form.
    The report renders the retrieved data values as HTML form controls to enable them to be edited by the user. The <tt>DEPTNO</tt> in from the first row in your query is rendered thus:
    &lt;input type="text" name="f01" size="16" maxlength="2000" value="10" id="f01_0001" autocomplete="off"&gt;and that in the second row as:
    &lt;input type="text" name="f01" size="16" maxlength="2000" value="10" id="f01_0002" autocomplete="off"&gt;Since these are not exactly the same (different <tt>id</tt> attributes), the built-in break formatting sees them as different values, so no report break is applied.
    However, even if this was not the case and the break was applied to give only 3 text items for the 3 <tt>DEPTNO</tt> values, the ApplyMRU and ApplyMRD processes expect a <tt>DEPTNO</tt> value to be submitted for each row, and would fail for the subordinate <tt>EMP</tt> rows where it was missing.

  • How to refresh page after selecting value from LOV item , in a tabular form

    Hi ,
    I have a tabular form, which contains 2 items(columns), of type "Select List - named LoV".
    Now, couple of issues here.
    1.
    2nd item(column) in tabular form, that LoV should get populated based user's selection value in first item LoV. So how do i refer to the value, that user selected in first item's LoV? I will have to use this reference in LoV query of my 2nd item ( on this tabular form)
    2.
    How can we refresh the page, when user selectes value in first item ( from LoV). As this is a tabular form, here item type is Select List, we dont have an option to pick item type as Select List with Submit. So problem is that when user selects value for item 1, refresh does not happen and item 2 LoV does not get populated as per user's selection in item 1.
    Please help here. Would be really appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rave.

    Thanks Ben and Dan for your responses.
    Ben, your solution helped me with refresh of page, as page got submitted.
    This answers to my 2nd question. However, I still need to know first question, which basically is, how do i refer to the value, that user selected in first item LoV.
    Issue is, I selected the value in first item LoV, it got submitted and page fot refreshed. But after page refresh, first item LoV loses its value that I had selected last time. It does not retain the selected value after refresh.
    I have an unconditional process, that on every submit(refresh) of page, I set my items with their corresponding values. But problem is what do i mention there to refer to this item.
    I looked in view source of my page, this item is referred as f03.
    So i used "apex_application.g_f03", to set this item to its value, in my uncoditional submit process. But it did not work. I tried to refer this item as "f03" in this unconditional submit process. But still it did not help, the selected item loses its value after page refresh(submit).
    Any help here would be really appreciated. Please suggest how do we refer to this item's selected value.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ravi.

  • Tabular Form: Conditional column based on another column in table/form?

    Hi!
    I have 4 columns in table A:
    number (the question number)
    question (the question to be asked)
    type (TEXT, LOV are the 2 valid values)
    answer (the answer with text or a selection from the lov table below)
    I have 2 columns in table B:
    number (the question number)
    values (a single value for the lov's)
    In table B there can be mutiple rows for each number. Table A and table B
    join on the number.
    I want to build a tablular form on table A where for each row either a text
    box or a select list is displayed depending on the contents of the type column.
    So row 1 would display a text box when the type value is text; row 2 would
    display a select list when the type value is lov.
    Is this even possible? How do I refer to the type column in the conditional for the
    answer column? I am guessing that I will need to have 2 answer columns one
    that displays when the type column is TEXT and one that displays when the
    type column contains LOV. This is OK. Setting up the conditional is display is the issue at this point.
    Hopefully I have explained this well enough! :)
    Thanks!
    Dave Venus

    Hi Dave,
    Sorry for not responding sooner - I finish work at 3pm GMT.
    I'll take your first question first (3:28PM posting according to my display - not sure if you are on GMT time?):
    As far as I understand it, using the select_list_from_query() function generates the options that are required in the select list as HTML tags. Each instance of this function should create a SELECT tag and the results of the query should generate one or more OPTION tags within it.
    Second question (4:20PM posting):
    The HTMLDB_ITEM functions are listed in the documentation - here's a link to the online version:
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14303/api.htm#sthref2524
    Most of the examples that I have seen have been on this forum - simply search for HTMLDB_ITEM or one of its functions.
    I tend to leave the generation of tabular forms to the wizard as much as possible. The only exceptions are when I need to have access to more than the Primary Key for a row but don't want to show the field on screen. There are examples on the forum about concatenating the HTMLDB_ITEM functions into a single value - this hides ID fields from the user but makes them available to PL/SQL code.
    Third question (5:29PM posting)
    I did try using DECODE in my questionnaire but not for the feature that you needed. Originally, I wanted to use this to display one of a number of different fields (ie, my date, number or string field as appropriate to the question) but this didn't help as I couldn't get back to the right field during the update. If you have decode working for the select lists, then that's great!
    The first column should be hidden or sitting behind a checkbox as this should be the Primary Key for the row and should not be editable by the user nor would it normally be displayed.
    As long as your select statement creates the correct output (albeit that you may need to work on the layout!), you should have an updatable form. However, you will need to have the MRU processes in place and the appropriate buttons that trigger these. When I did my questionnaire, I created the form using a wizard to get all of the processes and buttons and then changed the select statement. If you haven't got the processes and/or buttons, we can go through adding these onto your page.
    Last question (9:08PM posting)
    As explained above, column 1 should normally be hidden. The INPUT tag you detail above is what I would expect to see. The value="6" attribute indicates that 6 is the Primary Key for that row - every row will have the same tag but different values for the "value" attribute. So, if it is hidden and these are the tags you see doing a View Source on the page, then everything is correct.
    OK. So now we have the data on screen and (hopefully?) we have the correct processes and buttons on the page.
    The next step would be validation and update of the data.
    Validation of the data can be handled by a normal page process - I can let you have example code if you want to validate the data (this will also explain how to loop through the rows - there are also methods that you can use to do this in javascript if you want). Updates should be handled by the processes and buttons on the page - again, if you haven't got these we can go through adding them in (although, if you haven't yet formatted your page, you may find it quicker to copy your select statement and create the page again using the same select statement).
    ORA-20001 errors are user defined errors. Do you mean the "data has changed" errors? If so, you will probably need to include the MD5 checksum functionality (it's shown in the document linked above).
    Finally, we'll keep this thread going so that you have all of your workings and my responses in one place, if that's ok with you?
    Regards
    Andy

    VedantI am not clear; when do you trigger the validation? On submit? If yes, then it will not retain your session state values. What is the relationship between the ADD_ROW button and the validation?
    FYI, if you wish to retain session state values in the tabular form, you should be writing manual tabular form using collections. You will get good amount of information on manual tabular forms and collections in this forum and outside(google).
    BTW, if your question is answered, do not forget to mark the appropriate post as correct. It will help all of us in the forum.

    APEX_ITEM.CHECKBOX(01,s.stud_id) "DELETE",https://forums.oracle.com/forums/post!default.jspa?forumID=137#
    s.stud_id|| apex_item.hidden(02,s.stud_id) "STUD ID",
    ....... (some code).
    union all -- for inserting row
    SELECT '#ROWNUM#' "SNO",
    '<input type="file" name="F17" size="5">'AS "IMAGES", -- for display image

    FOR i IN 1..APEX_APPLICATION.G_F02.COUNT LOOP
    IF APEX_APPLICATION.G_F02(i)IS NOT NULL THEN
    UPDATE STUDENT SET stud_fname=APEX_APPLICATION.G_F04(i),
    stud_addr =APEX_APPLICATION.G_F05(i), ..... ( some field of table)..
    ELSE
    insert into FILE_ATMNT(ATMNT_KEY, ATMNT_NAME, FILE_NAME, MIME_TYPE, ATMNT_SIZE, CNTNT_TYPE, ATMNT_CNTNT, AUDIT_CRT_DATE ) SELECT id, name, filename, mime_type, doc_size,content_type, blob_content, SYSDATE FROM wwv_flow_files WHERE name = APEX_APPLICATION.G_F17(i);
    SELECT id into upload_ref from wwv_flow_files where name =APEX_APPLICATION.G_F17(i);
    ........ ( code for insert command )
    FILE_ATMNT is my attachment table in my workspace which updated through wwv_flow_files. My problem is that when i was click on update button image is not loaded into "wwv_flow_files" table so i didnt get image name bcz of $ name =APEX_APPLICATION.G_F17(i);$  this.  so its show me no data found error.... Pls help me
    Before considering anything else, why bother with all this extra complexity? Why not use the standard form and report pattern?

    Hi,
    i want to display data from data base in a tabular form, that is dynamic (the rows in UI is based on no.of records in data base) and one of data item is hyper link like
    sno sname class
    here sname is hyper link.
    Thanx for ur help

    Hi..
    Actually I dont get you clearly..
    I can give you some answer based on my understanding of your question..
    When you get the data from the database you can convert the each row of data into DTO's.. Finally you can get list of DTO's.
    Then in the JSF page you can use <h:dataTable> tag to render the table format of the DTO info..
    If I didnt clear your doubt, please explain your question clearly..
    Regards,
    Joe
