Tag Depoyment-How to?

Hi,
I am tryiny to learn tag libraries and created a simple taghandler like this:
import javax.servlet.jsp.*;
import javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.*;
import java.util.*;
import java.io.*;
public class SimpleTag extends TagSupport
public int doStartTag() throws JspException
try
pageContext.getOut().print("Hello.");
catch (Exception ex)
throw new JspTagException("SimpleTag: " +
ex.getMessage());
return SKIP_BODY;
public int doEndTag()
return EVAL_PAGE;
Now when I first tried to compile this file using "javac", it gave me error that package javax.servlet.jsp.* not found. I realized then that the J2EE implementation is vendor specific. Now I don't know how to get this taghandler compiled. I am using "Tomcat" as my server.Please advice where to put this java file so that I can compile.

Hi banerjeea_98,
First download the servlet.jar file from Sun
http://java.sun.com/products/servlet/download.html
Then include the servlet.jar in your classpath and compile the damn thing.
java -cp c:\servlet.jar mytaghandler.java
Now you have a class file called mytaghandler.class
Put this in the tomcat classes or lib directory.
My best bet would be that your're now able to use the taghandler from within your JSP's
