Take permission for folder and contents

Is there a way to take permissions for a whole folder and its contents all at once?
I transfered hundereds of photos from my old MBP (Snow Leopord) to my new MBP (now Lion)
I know how to change permission for a single file, but I'm tired of doing it one at a time....

I get the following:
chmod: Unable to change file mode on /Users/chris/Desktop/permissions/IMG_0298.JPG: Operation not permitted
EDIT:
I enabled root, and attempted it that way.
I don't get the error message, but I also get no change on the files. The folder is now unlocked and I have permission for it, but I still have the files inside it locked.
Any tips? Slight variation of the command?

I also tried this command using path/filename on a individual picture, and it had no effect. Only unlocked the folders in my tests, not the files themselve. Perhaps I need a CLI for dummies guide

You could potentially through a custom workflow triggered on UserRequest allow multiple submitted documents to be made records through a custom BPEL process calling Content DB Web Services.

Hi,
Just wanted to raise a quick query on setting a unique NTFS Security permission.
My requirement
A shared folder with the below listed access for users
A group of users should be able to create, read, rename files and folders inside a shared folder.
The group of users should not have the right to delete any folder or file from the shared folder.
This is what I have tried.
Gave modify permission to the Security group.
On Advanced permissions, denied delete subfolders and file & delete permission.
The effective permission for a user who is member of the security group over a file inside the shared folder is as shown.

But while trying to rename or modify the file, getting the below error message.

Hi JD,
Removing delete permission from the user or group brings a limitation that the user will not be able to rename the folder. This is because of the reason that the "rename" operation is also included within the "Delete" permission.
Thus if you want to prevent user from deleting the shared file, it's also not allowed to rename.

Possible to set it so you can't delete a specific folder and contents...

Hello.
I'm wondering if anyone knows a way I can set a folder so that a user can't delete the folder (and thus, the contents by deleting that folder). But, at the same time, I want them to be able to manage the items within the folder (ie. can delete sub-folders, can add sub-folders, etc.).
Basically, right now each computer in the studio has a "jobs" folder. This folder gets backed up (via the network via Retrospect) each night and users can add/delete jobs as they want. But, they can also accidentally delete this folder by having selected the main folder itself and hitting command-delete, or by moving it to the trash. I know it's not "likely", but it is possible and I'm hoping to prevent it.
I thought I could lock the folder so you can't delete it, but this seemed to also make it so the user can't add files either.
So, wondering if anyone has any suggestions (native or 3rd-party)?

If I create a temporary directory owned by me and grant read/write/execute permission to me, my group and others, I can add and delete items inside it but I cannot remove the directory itself while working as another user. If I gave ownership of the directory to root, I would also be unable to remove it.
While this is not secure - certainly admin users could delete the directory itself if they wanted to - it should prevent accidental removal of the sort you describe. Check it works on 10.5, though.

Read a folder and contents into memory

Hello All,
I want to put an entire folder (and it's contents) into memory.
Use Case :
1) Computer 1 has a folder called "foo" with 5 files in it. I want to run some program here which will serialize down into some file call it "fooserialized"
2) Computer 2 deserializes "fooserialized" and can then create folder "foo" with all of it's original contents.
Any suggestions? I browsed through the java.util.zip package with no avail.

Copy Workspace folder and contents

I would like to copy all files and folders in a folder on the Workspace to another folder on the Workspace. What's the best way to do this?
I'm using Hyperion Reporting and Analysis Workspace 9.3.3.

I guess you want to restructure the folder view in work space,, if I am right,,
all you have to do is to simply use copy and paste action to move the folders and what ever insides of the folders.
Just right click on the folder or the contents in side the folder and copy them, then you can paste it either at
top level of the tree or any of the below levels.
If you want to move the folders in b/w the environments I suggest to do Export to file system-->FTP to target server-->Import from file system.
If you want to do export & Import b/w environments make sure the database connections on the target workspace are set up according to the
source (navigate to manage database connections) else you will get a message saying whether to replace the source database connection with one of the
existed database connections in target.

my download folder is very large.
can i delete all downloads?
can i move folder to an external drive for safe keeping?
have tried to copy but this still leaves original files in download folder

The Downloads folder is a "System Folder" and you shouldn't move it. Anything that you don't need in the Downloads folder you can delete.

API for category and content item

You can call the appropriate PDK-PLSQL APIs using JDBC calls.
They are not currently available in Java.

Setting up the name for folder and fi

I just had to reinstall MediaSource on my system and it reset my settings for the file listings, i.e. Album - Artist - Track Title - Track Number.mp3.
It came up when I ripped my first CD but the settings didn't show up right.
I looked for the button to bring up that window again, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
If someone knows where to bring up that window please let me know.

Are you having MediaSource 5 now? Because if you had uninstalled and re-installed MediaSource 3, the settings should have remained.
Anyway, as PeeBee mentioned, you can set the naming convention in the setting page.
Also, for ripping format, go to Tools->Settings->Audio CD/Rip.

JTable with custom cell for folding and unfolding rows

I am trying to implement a JTable, whereas one of the columns is a custom component, which has a small + in the right upper corner.
When you push this + the JTable should unfold other rows, giving more detail on the current row.
So something like this :

|--------------------------------|Drawing this custom component for the column is no problem but I am having trouble implementing the MouseMotionListener events over this.
If I add a mouseMotionListener to the JTable, I am able to forward these events to my custom class which draws this custom component.
But off course the X and Y coordinates of this MouseEvent are not mapped into the grid of my custom component, which poses my question.
How can I attach to each cell of this custom column of my JTable, a listener as to implement some mouseover and mouseclick stuff ?
In case this post is not all that clear, I will try to add a demo showing my problem.

You're reinventing a wheel that's been done a few times. One example is JTreeTable (http://community.java.net/javadesktop/) but there are others.

Loading a Video TS folder and contents into FCP

I have some video on a disc from a Canon DC201. When I look at the disc it contains a folder named VideoTS. Is it possible to use the files in some way in FCP? How can I load the video?

VIDEO_TS is a folder that contains many other files inside, like VOB (movie), INFO (info), BUP (backup). FCP is movie editing application, so..
1. FCP can edit VOB (=MPEG2) if you have QT MPEG2 component & the right audio component.
2. another way, open VOB file with mpeg streamclip (or others) & convert it into DV. FCP is sure can understand it.

GPP for Folder Options Not Applying to Windows 7 Current Users

I have a Windows 7 client that I am trying to push a GPP for a folder option. The setting is "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items".
If a user has already logged into the machine before the policy applied, it will not change the setting.
If a brand new user logs into the machine, the policy is applied.
On users that have logged in previosu to the policy, I can go to the Group Policy folder, check the history folder and I am showing that it is applied in the XML file.
Things I have verified:
Setting is for Windows Vista and Later
Same results on different Windows 7 PCs
Set to run in logged on user context
Apply once and not reapply is NOT checked.
Can anyone help shed some light on this?

Sorry for misunderstanding this issue. This GPP for folder option could apply to new users sucessfully, however, could not apply to old users sucessfully. Right?
Firstly, please check if the GPO has applied to old users. You can also run the following command on the problematic workstation when an old user logs on:
Gpresult /h > C:\temp\gpresult.html (“C:\temp\” is the path of the gpresult.html, you can set it yourself). This gpresult.html file is used for checking the result of Group Policy information.
If the GPO setting has been applied according to the result of Gpresult, please check if the value of corresponding registry key has been modified. The corresnponding registry key is shown as following:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced: ShowInfoTip
If the value is 1, this means the value has been modified. Vice versa.

Hi Kishroe,
First, there is no supported, out of the box way to handle content objects in the JDI (now NWDI- NetWeaver Development Infrastructure) With that said, since it is a repository you could export your content package. Make it a zip file or something like that and add it to the repository.
Again, I believe this is theoretically possible. I'm sure some of the other SDN members can provide an automated approach to do this.

Search for folder-/pathname - PSE 8

I have organized my pictures in folders on my hard-drive (e.g. c:\users\martin\pictures\2009\09-08_dublin).
When I use the search in PS Elements and for example search for dublin it won't find anything. Is there an option to be turned on, so that Elements also searches for folder- and pathnames? Thanks in advance for your help!

This is a limitation of PSE 6, 7, and 8 -- FInd > By Filename, and in 7 and 8, the Search text box, only search through the filename, not the folder name. The only way to "search" by folder name is to use Folder Location view, which is slow and buggy.
