Taking my PHP/MySQL site online - how?
Hi,
Once I have developed a site on my local PC in DW, utilizing
PHP and MySQL Administrator, how do I make it work online?
Obviously I need to use the built-in FPT function in DW - but
how do I transfer the database files to the server?
I have searched for an anser to this question for a long time
- but all the tutorials I find (and I have found a number!) help me
develop my site locally - and then say nothing about taking it
online.
I have developed a number of sites using ASP/Access. When I
take such a site online, I need to change the connection-string. Is
the process the same for PHP/MySQL sites? If yes, what change do I
need to make? And what database-file do I upload to the server, and
where do I put it?
Here is where I want to get: I want to have my site locally,
so that I can make any changes to it when necessary - and then
upload it so that it now uses the online database. ASP/Access
allowed me to have both locally, so that I could make any changes.
Downside is of course you have two versions of the database, one
local, one remote.
My host uses PHPMyAdmin. I see I can download a version of
this and use it locally. Should I do that and use that? Does it do
the same as PHP Administrator?
As you can see I have many questions. I think I am missing a
few key-thoughts that will help me understand PHP and MySQL and
make go "oh, now I get it!'
Please feel free to point me to tutorials that you believe I
will find helpful.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Sounds like you need to export your database and then import
it into
your production server. Then upload the website, adjust the
connection
string so that its pointing to the correct server with the
correct
credentials and away you go.

PHP MySQL sites created by dreamweaver mx 2004 crash on safari
Hello,
The title says it all, but i will elaborate.
I develop PHP, MySQl driven database websites, I use
Dreamweaver MX 2004 and I work on a macintosh, using both safari
version 2 and 3.
i have noticed that whenever I post a database item (add,
edit to table) my safari hangs and I get a page cannot be displayed
error after 1 minute or so, even though the db function went
through.
Now, this only happens with safari and it only happens with
pages I build with dreamweaver, any hand coded websites I build do
not do this.
i have posted this on the apple website with no response, I
am hoping someone here can help me.On Fri, 23 Nov 2007 16:21:50 +0000 (UTC), "MacDaddy333"

Hello all,
I've got an update record form on one of my pages (it is a
php / MySQL site). I followed the tutorial in dreamweaver 8, it
works, but it does not work like I want it to work.
I am hoping that when a user logs into the site, and they
want to update their information, they can go to a page that has an
update record form. This form will have all the fields empty. When
the user enters information, only the fields that have been entered
will update the record in the database (and all of the fields that
are left blank will have no effect on the record in the database).
How it is now, when the user goes to that page, all the text
fields are filled with the information contained in the database.
If they make a mistake, and delete any of those fields, that
information will be deleted from the database.
Is this possible to do? If so, is there a tutorial that I
have not found yet that I can learn how to do this?
Thank you>Is this possible to do?
Sure it's possible, but I don't really think it's necessary.
What if the user wants to completely remove the contents of the
field? And if you don't want to allow that, then you should
validate those fields anyway.
Another workflow would be to have the form retrieve the
database row into static text fields, so at least the user can see
what is stored. Adjacent to the static fields would be normal text
fields that they can enter text into if they want to make changes.
Of course your form processing script would then need to evaluate
each field for contents. It would then dynamically build the update
sql based on the filled in fields. I don't know of a specific
tutorial, but if you know sql and php it should be a piece of
cake. -
Hi the list,
I have a php/mysql site -, very simple. it's using the
built-in user authentication behavior. this is fine, checks the
database and either opens the correct page with a valid user/login
or opens an error page, if there's no valid login and password set.
what I need to do is to display a field based on the user and
password on the receiving page, but I can't seem to get that to
work. If I get rid of the built-in user authentication and just
send the login and password to the receiving page as form
variables, it works fine but then I don't have the error page
behavior. I'm not a database guy, just kind of floundering here.Any
help gratefully accepted.On Thu, 11 Oct 2007 20:47:04 +0000 (UTC), "paulelwood"

Not quite sure what you mean ("display a field") but it
sounds like
you want the receiving page to display some information about
the
person who has logged in?
In that case, in the code on your login page, after login has
been
verified but before the redirection to the receiving page,
you should
set a session variable to be the id of the person logging in.
Then on
your receiving page query the database for the person with
that id and
retrieve whatever you want. For example, get their given name
and
display a personalised welcome to them.
Hope this is what you meant?

Thinking of learning to build sites with PHP/MySQL
Is it worth it to invest the time and brain power? I've been
using Dreamweaver for years. None of my sites really are so large
that I'm having issues. But, I could see some down the road that
might be too complex and large.
I'm having some problems figuring out where to begin. Any
suggestions on books that specifically deal with Dreamweaver and
database driven sites?David Powers 'Foundation PHP for Dreamweaver 8' is what got
me started. I
was able to work through most of it in a weekend. He takes
you step by step
on how to set up your computer to run PHP/MySQL, and then you
build a series
of increasingly complex projects with each new aspect of
PHP/MySQL that he
teaches.
He has some newer books out, too, if you have a more recent
version of DW:

How to set up a PHP/mySQL "server" in arch?
Hi,
I know its a wide question, and i may have to go to different howtos and such, but as this distro is different from the others there might be some differences in that.
If i want to run a PHP based site in mozilla and the site is hosted in my machine, do i need to do something real strange to make it work ?
if you can post any link to some info, it wont hurt. and yes i will google anyway!sud_crow wrote:If i want to run a PHP based site in mozilla and the site is hosted in my machine, do i need to do something real strange to make it work?
I am running Apche/PHP/MySQL on my machine and simple to setup. Few things requires to know. It can be done in different way. This is how I do including how to test the server(s). Host name is: "localhost". If anything is missing, please let me know.

How to use spry in the dreamweaver with the php/mysql

The reason you get nothing when you save the page with a .php
extension
is because you have display_errors turned off, so you can't
see the
error message telling you there's a syntax error. The
semicolon is
missing at the end of this line:
> echo "<font color='white'>Hello
Swetha</font>"
The reason it doesn't work with an .html extension is
probably because
you haven't uploaded SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.js. I have
copied your
page and tested it locally with the correct JavaScript file,
and the
tabbed panels work as expected.
There are lots of other mistakes in your page. You can't use
float and
position:absolute on the same element. In at least one place,
you have
used </br> instead of <br />. You have also got
an closing paragraph tag
after the paragraph that contains abc.jpg.
Getting Spry or any other JavaScript library to work
correctly relies on
good, clean code. Your mixture of inline styles and font tags
is going
to make it difficult to incorporate Spry into your pages. I
suggest you
improve your HTML and CSS before bringing Spry into the mix.

How to enable php, mysql, and apache?
Hi guys, I am sorry if I am not in the right forum, but I am really worried about my problem...
According to this article("http://developer.apple.com/mac/articles/internet/phpeasyway.html") I already have php , apache, and SQlite installed on my mac. My problem is when I try to enable the apache, instead of coming a localhost ( like 128.1.2.1) comes my website " your computer's website: http://nunomedi-e14....lan/ ) I donn't know what is this, I replace the index.html with index.php in sites folder.
Can somebody help me please. Please look at my second post. I corrected what I said:

How to update PHP, MySQL or Apache
The Mac OS X 10.6.2 system does not include the latest versions of PHP, MySQL or Apache.
What is the recommended update procedure for PHP, MySQL or Apache:
a) automatically by Mac OS X system (is this possible?) or
b) manually by the administrator (are there any documentations?)
Many thanks.
Actual system versions:
Mac OS X 10.6.2
MySQL 5.0.82
Apache 2.2Hi, Thanks for your answer.
That sounds Apple do not seriously release updates of third party packages shipped with the system (like Apache, mySQL ...) very often.
To use month or year old packages in a web environment is a big risk, e.g. mySQL actual official version is V5.50 / mySQL Version shipped and updated by Mac OS X 10.6.2 Server is V5.0.82).
The same with Apache and PHP, both are packages included in Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server product by Apple and are included in a old version.
And when manually updates by the administrator of the server system do not work well or are not supported by the OS X Server system (as I understand your posting), the administrator can not act to improve and secure the system.
That can only lead to one conclusion: Apple's Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server should not be used in a productive, internet faced web environment.
Is this true? I do not want to believe this!?
Is there really no official supported or documented procedure by Apple to keep the integrated third party components updated?
I'd like to prefer Mac OS X Server odd Linux distribution because it seems more handy to administrate and to use, e.g. tools like Server Admin. These tools are an advantage of Mac OS X Server. -
PHP/mySQL code help please
Hi all,
Thanks to David Powers fab tutorial I am now well on my way to competeing my first dynamique website using PHP/mySQL, (thanks David ), however I am stuck on one particular area....can anyone please help?
I know that the mySQL database uses the format YYYY/MM/DD for dates, and that is fine. I've sorted out how to display in a more regular format (eg. 1st September 2011) for my application, but I am stuck on how to convert a more regular formatted date entered by the site user into the mySQL format.
Ideally I would like for the users entry or say either 1/9/11 or 1-9-11 (or something along those lines, to be recognised and displayed on the entry form, but to have a backend function that converts the data to mySQL format. I seem to be reading plenty of forum posts which say this can be done, but unfortunately I can't quite seem to fathom how, or where the code should sit. Would someone mind taking a look at my code page to actually identify what I need to insert, and equally as importantly...where!!!
Along these lines...is it possible to have a mini-calendar date picker that could be embedded next to the date entry field to ensure that a valid date is entered and in the correct format? Where could this be sourced?
Thanks in advance of some much needed help
MarkThis is becoming really frustrating for me (so god knows how I am to you!!!!), but I usually pick things up so fast and yet this whole PHP/SQL thing is eluding me!!
I can see (I think) how the code would work, but am struggling to see where it fits into place with my own Dreamweaver 'Update Record' code, as follows. I have spent a couple of days trawling through PHP.net and various other sites and forums before bringing my stupidity to the public domain, but I just can't seem to crack it.
This one last time then i'll leave you in peace??????

Macromedia Dreamweaver "Unidentified Error" PHP MySQL, help please
Ok,
I've been developing web applications with with PHP/MySQL for some time now, but had been unable to afford dreamweaver to help me out. Thus every website I made came from strait "notepad" style typeing. Everything always worked just fine. Recently though I got my hands on Macromedia Studio MX, but have been having troubles ever since then.
I wrote my own PHP script to connect to my MySQL database on my computer (localhost), and it worked like a charm. Then I went over to dreamweaver, followed all the steps, entered the information, clicked the "test" button and I get the an error "an unidentified error occured".
At this point I checked everything tried again, and then that rendered the same result, I went online and found the same problem at Macromedia's webstie: http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_16515
I've tried everything mentioned there to no avail. I was hopeing someone out there would know what is wrong with my connection. Quick summary:
Trying to connect with Dreamweaver to localhost MySQL database, with PHP MySQL settings. I get "an unidentified error occured". But the informaiton has been verified as correct with my own PHP script.Sorry, but it doesn't help JTANNA.
What is your definition of "more efficiently"? If it's limitation of search results, branded search, and limitation of styling your results then google search is more efficient. Real developers rely on their own developments. For example: how can google search display results from a password-protected site? They can't.

Can't connect PHP/MySQL 404 error
Wow, the learning curve is killing me. Yet another challenge. I'm using Dreamweaver CC and this tutorial http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/setup_php.html
I'm at this step:
Open comments.php. You must have a PHP page open in the Document window to create a MySQL connection.
In the Databases panel (choose Window > Databases), click the Plus button on the panel and select MySQL Connection. The MySQL Connection dialog box appears.
Type connTest as the connection name.
For the MySQL Server, type localhost. If you are using the MAMP default ports on a Mac, use localhost:8889.
For the User Name, type phptestuser.
Type the password you chose for the phptestuser account in the Password field.
For the Database, type php_test.Note: You don't need to precede the underscore with a backslash here. It was inserted by phpMyAdmin in the previous section (see Figure 20) only because phpMyAdmin uses a query that permits wildcard characters.
Click Test.Dreamweaver attempts to connect to the database. If the connection fails, do the following:
Double-check the server name, user name, and password.
Check the settings for the folder Dreamweaver uses to process dynamic pages (see Specifying a Testing Server for Dreamweaver).
Verify that the web and MySQL servers are both running.
Temporarily disable any firewall or security program. If the connection works, you need to configure the security program to permit communication between Dreamweaver and MySQL.
Click OK. The new connection appears in the Databases panel.
Expand the connTest connection, and then expand the Tables branch. You'll see the comments table in the database, which you can expand to reveal the details of the table columns (see Figure 23).
As far as I can tell I have followed this tutorial to the letter.
As far as I can tell, XAMPP/php mySQL are all running fine, the files are in the correct place and everything should be working. However when I hit test I get a 404 error. (Same error when I hit the select button.)
The suggested problems on the 404 message are:
1. There is no testing server running on the server machine.
Pretty sure the testing server is running. Is there any way to test this, other than to note that xampp is definitely running right now and that I can log into phpMYadmin no problem?
2. The testing server specified for this site does not map to the http://localhost/php_test/_MMServerScripts/MMHTTPDB.php URL Verify that the URL Prefix maps to the root of the site.
Ummm...I'm pretty sure I put things where I was told to put them in the tutorial, but I'm lost at this point where I should verify what. A clue here? The files are where they are supposed to be, but maybe I entered something wrong? Except...I'm not sure what that could be or where to find it. Whatever IT is.
Everything in local files is looking good.
Thanks for your help!
PS: Extra points to anyone who figures out how to make copy/pasteable error messages! These buggers are the bane of my life!Bgupta, you rock!
I hope you have copied the "mysql.php" and "MMHTTPDB.php" files from "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CC\locale\Configuration\Connections\Scripts\PHP_MySQL\_mmDBScripts" to "C:\xampp\htdocs\phptest\_mmServerScripts"
This was EXACTLY the problem. I checked the tutorial and I couldn't even find where the tutorial said to do this. (If I missed it, let me know where in the tutorial it was, please.)

PHP/MySQL issue after security update 2010-005
Hello,
I run Apache/PHP/MySQL on my MBP for testing Web sites.
After the 2010-005 security update I can't connect to my databases anymore.
I don't know how to fix this, I even don't know where to start looking.

There is nothing wrong with TriangleJuice's suggestion. My only issue with creating a php.ini file is that now I have to worry about all those other settings in the ini file. If something else in PHP breaks, I have to figure out if I am the one who broke it.
Apple ships MySQL with MacOS X Server. They probably adjusted the PHP settings to match how they have MySQL setup in MacOS X Server.
For MySQL's, no, Sun's - drat! no, Oracle's part, they still haven't acknowledged the fact that Apple has shipped MacOS X 10.4. MySQL still ships with a Startup Item. If you don't know where the launchd file is, it is because you don't have one. You probably have a MySQL entry in /Library/StartupItems or maybe /System/Library/StartupItems. Startup Items were deprecated in 10.4. Oracle should be creating a file named com.mysql.mysqld.plist in /Library/LaunchDaemons.

I also don't have a /var/mysql directory and wasn't sure whether I should just create one or if this meant my configuration was different. If you feel like explaining any of this, I'd be curious to know.
You have to create one. Such a directory probably already exists on MacOS X Server. Just make sure it is owned by mysql.
sudo mkdir /var/mysql
sudo chown _mysql:staff /var/mysql
sudo chmod 0755 /var/mysql
[jdaniel@Pele:516] /var $ ls -al /private/var | grep mysql
drwxr-xr-x 3 _mysql staff 102 Aug 26 20:03 mysql
Of course, /var is a symbolic link to /private/var. Long story there.
