Taking On-line Course for PC based computer

Hi,
Just tried to take a course https://learningctr.redcross.org/ and I could not access the downloaded class, IT explained they say they no longer support mac. I can't access using Safari, Explorer, FireFox, Netscape. Very frustrating. Will the Flip4Mac work for online training?
Or do I have to find a PC? Why would an online learning company do this type of selective audience?
Mac Mini Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hello S Crawford
I not exactly sure what's the best thing for you to do. I can go to the site and download the Student Guide as a Word.doc to my desktop and then open it with Microsoft Office X (an old PPC ram gusler version) It all worked from there I could scroll thru the pages and work in the doc. I can only assume that a newer version would do the same thing for you. The catch here is that Microsoft Office for Mac is not cheap, I know with the old versions you could authorize like 3 copies for use, but nothing about newer ones. Check with everyone you know using Mac's, maybe one of them will have a copy.

  • Line in for itunes - Use computer audio in or 3rd party device

I wanted to know if there were any devices or a way to get something recognized by itunes that you could plug in something like a live band, that would be recognized as a device and then just select that device and it would play the audio from that thru itunes.
The reason for this is I use apple remote and airport expresses throughout my house to play music. It would be nice to be able to pipe in sound from another source and select it thru apple remote and play that audio thru the airportexpresses.
For example, someone brings over a record player and we hook it up, plug the RCA outputs into the device or line in on the computer. Then when itunes is opened the device/line in shows up as a source, and I guess to fit into apples schema, there would be one "song" on the device and it would just "play" that which would then send the incoming sound thru itunes and play over the speakers thru airportexpress.
Im suprised there is no device or option to play "line-in" or maybe there is a way to have the sound line in of the computer be used. Im sure there are lots of applications for this.  I suppose its possible apple doenst want this option but maybe someone out there has some kind of work around to accomplish my goal.
    Thanks

Maybe it could be something line a live podcast or personal radio station that could be set up. I just thought of this looking at the catagories.

I eventully figured out how to do this. It cant be done in Itunes. You have to use airfoil not itunes to broadcast to the airtunes speakers. You can select any input or program to supply the sound.  If you want to control this from your iphone you need to install ReeMote and the ReeMote server on your mac to control airfoil Volume, you can not control the input selection from the reemote application.  This must be done on the Mac but it defaults to the previous selected input all the time on startup.

  • Using a Mac for an on-line course that "requires" a PC?

I want to take an on-line course from Gatlin Educational Services. They claim that I must use a PC for the software to be compatible. When I ask them about using a dual-processor iMac running windows they won't say either yes or no. Just that "some students" have had problems. In input out there? Thanks
    Melissa

    Melissa:
If you have an Intel iMac as your profile indicates and have MS Windows installed then I would definitely try that online course out on WIndows. Once Windows is running on your Mac then your Mac will behave just like any other PC running windows and should run the same Windows based applications that any other PC would run in your iMac's class.
    I would try it out.

  • Hi there, I'm thinking of buying both a new MacBook Pro and a small 22 inch LED tv for my kitchen... what would I need to be able to use (wireless of course) the tv as a monitor for the new computer? Apple tv? Airport Express? something else? Thanks.

    Hi a,
    http://www.mctiviausa.com/
There has been "talk" on and off of Apple TV doing it (and people have done it with a hack), but I haven't really followed it.
It would be a whole lot cheaper getting an adapter (as needed) and cable and simply pluggin it in when you're in the kitchen.

  • More than 1 blank line available for input in IP-Excel based?

    Hello,
We are converting a large BW-BPS application (> 200 active users) to IP.
A major requirement is the availability of the "blank screen" in Excel, similar to the BPS standard screen, where users can cut-and-paste multiple lines into it.
IP - Excel-based appears to give only one blank line available for input at the bottom of the query.  Is there a setting or change available to give 20 blank lines, similar to the UPP_SET_DEFAULT_DUMMIES program for BPS?
If this is not available it would be a large drawback to converting to IP, as users require pasted-in input from other systems, or "templates" where they change just a few numbers or rows each month, etc.
    Thanks,
    Aaron Benner

Mayank, thanks for the info.  I knew about the analysis item option in the web, unfortunately I'm only interested in the Excel option.
Marc, can you shed any light on this subject, as pertains to the Excel-based IP?
    Thanks, Aaron

  • How do I change the "home based" computer for my IPOD to a new laptop?

How do I change the "home based" computer for my IPOD to a new laptop?  When I plug in y IPOD classic, I get a msg asking me to erase the IPOD.  What I'd like to do is make the laptop my "home base" vs. my desktop.  I have had no success when using icons from ITUNES.

You need to move the iTunes library from your home computer to your new laptop first.  From there you'll be able to continue syncing your iPod as before.  This iTunes support article covers the different methods available for moving your iTunes library from one PC to another.

  • Course Apprisal for Web Based Traning is not considering the inputs values

    Dear All,
We have created Course Appraisal Template for Web Based Training.  It is reflected in portal and we are able to see the template and we can give the values also.  When I am executing the template the following error is showing " The status change not possible"
    Please advise me in this.
    Regards,
    Milan

    Hello,
What's the format of the TrainingID, is it the same in both cases?
How do you know the value isn't being passed - could it be that it's not passed correctly?
    What's the error message?

Reset the SMC, as per > Resetting the System Management Controller
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • How can I b a disk of photos off iPhoto08 for use on Windows based computer

Can anyone help with instructions on how to burn a CD of photos in an iPhoto 08 album that can be viewed in their original resolution on a Windows-based computer? The iPhoto manuals seem to suggest that CD's can only be viewed on Mac computers with iPhoto. Thanks.

I have a similar question. I want to transfer my entire iPhoto library to my Windows Desktop, keeping all the keywords and edits intact.
When I try to export from iPhoto, if I leave the Kind set to Current the option to include Title and Keywords is grayed out. I can check it if I set Kind to JPEG but that appears to recompress the images or something.

  • Is adjusting permissions for LightRoom based archive management worthwhile?

I'm trying to set up an archive that is managed through a LightRoom Catalog. I was wondering if anyone has done this before and adjusted the permissions of their files to read only to ensure that LightRoom Catalog metadata changes do not alter or get saved to files.
I plan to have the archive set up in 3 locations with copies of the LightRoom Catalog. I will need to be able to add keywords and collections to a catalog at 2 of the locations. I am interested in using permissions to ensure that the catalog is the only file that needs to travel between the locations. I don't want to get into a situation in which altering the LightRoom Catalog might alter files and necessitate that I either save new metadata to files with each keyword/collection addition or that I regularly synchronize the entire archive to ensure all 3 copies of the archive are mirrors of one another.
I have three serious concerns about the longterm viability of managing file permissions:
    1. I worry that it will be difficult to manage the user/s who have the privileges to manage these permissions and that it will be difficult to do so in different locations and on different computers
    2. I worry about whether permissions management might introduce some form of file corruption
    3. I worry about the time involved in altering an entire archives worth of permissions to read only and the time involved in reversing this every time I want to unarchive content for new projects
I have also posted this question to Luminous Landscape here: Adjusting Permissions for LightRoom Catalog Based Archive Managment. Worthwhile?

... and adjusted the permissions of their files to read only to ensure that LightRoom Catalog metadata changes do not alter or get saved to files.
By default, Lightroom does not write anything to your photo files. Of course, there's no way to prevent a user from changing this default behavior and writing information to the files. I suppose making the directories read-only helps, but people could still change that. If the directories are on a server, then only the server admin could change the permissions.
    2. I worry about whether permissions management might introduce some form of file corruption
I never heard of such a thing, but this is an operating system issue, not a Lightroom issue.
I worry about the time involved in altering an entire archives worth of permissions to read only and the time involved in reversing this every time I want to unarchive content for new projects
I don't think you understand how Lightroom works. There would be no need to reverse anything to "unarchive" the content  — although in my opinion, the idea of "archiving" content in the first place doesn't feel right ... if the photos are imported into Lightroom at one time, leave them in Lightroom, don't go through an archive process removing the photos from Lightroom followed by unarchive process, that is something that is ineffective and causes numerous problems with non-expert users. When you import photos into Lightroom, the photos still remain on your hard disk somewhere, Lightroom does not actually keep a copy of the photo. Lightroom keeps pointers to the photo's locations and stores any metadata and edits. Removing a photo from Lightroom (archiving) is the equivalent of deleting the metadata and edits, and I cannot see a reason to do that.
So, bottom line, to answer your title question, "Is adjusting permissions for Lightroom based archive management worthwhile?" — without further discussion of your setup and goals, I see no reason to even spend your time on this, unless you are the server admin of the location where the photos are stored, in which case then the answer is go right ahead and make them read-only.

  • "Line in" for powerbook

Im currently trying to convert my vinyl to cd using the programme Audacity. Ive attached one head of a double-headed jack lead to the headphone socket on my amp, the other to "Line in" socket on my Powerbook.
All good but Im only getting one channel coming thorough. The output from the amp is definitely stereo, so Im assuming that the problem must be with "Line in" input side, which is only taking one channel.
Is there any way of making "Line in" a stereo input?

I tried to use the cord you refer to to connect my powerbook to my turntable, but I did not get anything coming through to Audacity - it just flatlined. I was told this was because the signal coming directly from the turntable was too weak, so had to be amplified.
Yes, back when turntables were standard, every amplifier contains a "phono preamplifier" to bring the signal up to the RIAA standard equalization, so only the "phono" inputs worked properly for connecting a turntable. In other words, you can't just plug the turntable into an amplifier without a phono preamp. Now that most homes don't have a turntable, many amplifiers don't have a phono preamp and when it's missing, it has to be bought separately.
Using the headphone output may be frowned upon by purists, but it's fine. I've used it since on my cheap amp it's what works best for me. As long it is brought up to line level for when it goes into the computer.
I still don't have a clue as to why it's acting like mono.
    John coveney wrote:
Something labelled M above (which I take to mean mono) is set at over to left.
I believe M is for Mute, which is why it's locked at zero. If you check the M box, it mutes both channels. Naturally, if just the Channel 1 or Channel 2 checkbox is checked, that individual channel will be muted. But I think you would have noticed that.

  • Unable to boot my MS6330 based computer

I built my MS6330 based computer four years ago and have not had a single issue with it until today.  During a Fritz 8 analysis of a chess game, the monitor went dark (the power light turned orange, indicating loss of signal from the computer); the computer's hard drive, cd-rom, cdr, and power led's remained lit continuously.  The power and reset buttons on the case were unreponsive.  I shut off the power from the power supply.  After waiting, I turned on the power supply, and the computer turned to the same state without beeping.

Since the PSU is of good quality, taking into account the components as well the fact that it has performed well for 4 years, I have the feeling that we can safely rule out the possibility of insufficient power supply in this case
Scott, is it possible to test components in another system? It is important to find out if the parts are in good working order (in particular: videocard, but if possible also ram and cpu).
