TaskFlow bindings

In Fusion Developer’s Guide for Oracle Application Development Framework 11g Release 1 (11.1.1) documentation, in chapter 19.2.2 there is this phrase:
"The task flow’s bindings will only be refreshed based on its Refresh and RefreshCondition attributes"
Could anyone explain what are the "taskFlow bindings"?
Thank you,
Monica

Hi,
so you added Navigation.jsff to ViewPerson.jsff in a facet and the Navigation.jsff has bindings? In this case the ViewPerson.jsff PageDef file must be edited with the content of the ViewPerson.jsff PageDef file because using jsp:includes or ui:includes don't append the ADF binding of these files

  • Unwanted starting of taskflows

    Hi, I have unbelievable problem with taskflows.
    I am using JD Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.5.0 on Weblogic 11.1.1.5
    I have page with 4 popups (new, assign, assume, return). Each popup has dialog and region with taskflow. Popup and region are binded in backing bean.
    Popups are showed by buttons on page. Button action call methodCall like this:
        public void showNewBook() {
            setNewBookPopupVisible(true); //enable to start taskflow because taskflowregion has activation=conditional and active gets this value
            getNewBookRecordRegion().refresh(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance()); //activate region
            AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(getNewBookRecordRegion());
            getNewBookRecordPopup().show(new RichPopup.PopupHints()); //activate popup
            AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(getNewBookRecordPopup());
    When I push button "Assume" I see in the log
    <workOnBook> <assumeBook> entering
    <LoggingWrapper> <initLogger> Logger initialized. Identifier = task-flow-content-books-popup-assume
    <LoggingWrapper> <initLogger> Logger initialized. Identifier = task-flow-content-books-popup-assume
    <LoggingWrapper> <initLogger> Logger initialized. Identifier = task-flow-content-books-popup-assign
    <LoggingWrapper> <logInfo> <task-flow-content-books-popup-assign> log: BOOKID=[6] SelectedRow n0 =[2170769]
    <workOnBook> <prepairFormForAssign> Called.
    <workOnBook> <prepairFormForAssign> BookRecordId: 2170784
    <workOnBook> <prepairFormForAssign> BookId: 74
    <workOnBook> <prepairFormForAssign> state: 20
    Assign popup is not shown but it works on background. task-flow-content-books-popup-assign does createInsert and I can see it in parent window after close of Assume popup.
    Thank you for help.

    There is nothing strange. Taskflow bindings of the regions are in the executable section of the parent page, so they are executed by default during the PrepareModel phase of the containing page (even if the corresponding regions are not going to be rendered). The corresponding "child" taskflows are created and all their activities up to the 1st view activity are executed (including the CreateInsert activities at the start of the taskflows). You can prevent automatic execution of these taskflows by specifying conditional activation of the taskflows. Use the "activation" and "active" properties of the taskflow bindings for this purpose. Look at the documentation for more details:

  • Oracle UI Shell Functional Pattern

    Problem Description
    A chief challenge in UI development is rational consistency -- providing the user with predictable locations and behaviors for the most salient features.
    Technical Pattern Description
    The Oracle ADF UI Shell is a template that provides guidance to development teams working towards a consistent UI for their customers. Because it is reinforced in code, it augments the probability that UI specifications will be followed. The primary assumption of the Oracle ADF UI Shell is that each page based on the template will represent a significant module of an application, if not separate applications. As a consequence, the "boilerplate" portion of the UI (e.g., branding, ubiquitous controls, obligatory legal statements) are more easily held consistent in form, placement, and function -- as they are defined once. The more interactive portion of the application -- features and functions that define the application -- are presented in the "workarea" of the template. The Oracle ADF UI Shell template identifies those areas through named facets (e.g., navigation) and regions (e.g., dynamic tabs). Nearly all, if not all, of the product's value add can be surfaced in regions of a single page as bounded ADF taskflows. In the end, customers enjoy a more predictable user experience.
    Click here to see the document that describes this pattern.

    I have already tested my understanding on the taskFlow binding "*parametersMap*" attribute above and it works!
    First, I added an additional parameter in line with the tabContext parameter to my custom dynamicTabShellDefinition.xml. The parameter binding section will be as follows:
    <parameters>
        <parameter id="tabContext" value="${viewScope.tabContext}"/>
        <parameter id="parameterMap" value="${requestScope.parameterMap}"/>
      </parameters>Note that instead of using ${viewScope.parameterMap}, I used ${requestScope.parameterMap} because it seems that when I passed a viewScope parameter from a backingBean inside one of my bounded task flows, it will not reach the initialization of my target task flow in the separate tab.
    Second, I redefined all my taskFlow bindings to define the "*parametersMap*" attribute value to "*#{bindings.parameterMap}*". Please see below a redefined taskFlow definition:
    <taskFlow id="r0"
                  taskFlowId="${viewScope.tabContext.taskflowIds[0]}"
                  activation="deferred"
                  xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/controller/binding"
                  parametersMap="#{bindings.parameterMap}">
          <parameters>
            <parameter id="tabContext" value="${bindings.tabContext}"
                       xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adfm/uimodel"/>
          </parameters>
    </taskFlow>With the steps above, I could already define any parameter that I need in the bounded taskflow: Please see below for a sample parameter definition:
    <input-parameter-definition id="__2">
          <name id="__3">employeeId</name>
          <value>#{pageFlowScope.employeeId}</value>
          <required/>
    </input-parameter-definition>Just be sure that before you invoke the backing bean method that will call the TabContext addTab() method you already put the employeeId into the parameterMap and set the parameterMap into requestScope:
            Map<String, Object> parameterMap = new HashMap<String, Object>();
            parameterMap.put("employeeId",employee.getId());
            JSFUtils.setRequestAttribute("parameterMap", parameterMap);//JSFUtils is a utility class from FOD
            //direct or indirect call to the TabContext addTab() method hereI hope this will help others too.

  • Restricting refresh of region in showdetailItem in panneltab

    Hi experts,
    I'm using Jdeveloper 11.1.2.2.0
    In my page, i have pannel tab with 3 showdetail items & each one has a region.
    The above 3 regions created by same JAR file but when loading tab ,I'm passing 3 different parameters to them.
    But after loading page it appears same out put in all tabs.
    I identify the problem(that is when loding page all 3 regions was executed)
    What i want to do is, when I click the tab,it should be load only the region within it(that is only 1 region).
    Pls give me any suggession.
    Thanks
    Charith

    Some explanation about my post above:
    Taskflow bindings (of the regions) are executed during the PREPARE_MODEL phase of the host page, but the regions are rendered later during the RENDER_RESPONSE phase of the host page, so the execution order is as follows:
    1. Execute TF binding of region 1 (e.g. execute eventual TF method activities, retrieve and lookup data for region 1)
    2. Execute TF binding of region 2 (e.g. execute eventual TF method activities, retrieve and lookup data for region 2)
    3. Execute TF binding of region 3 (e.g. execute eventual TF method activities, retrieve and lookup data for region 3)
    4. Render region 1
    5. Render region 2
    6. Render region 3
    In this way all the 3 regions would render one and same data (the data retrieved and looked up by the 3rd TF binding) if the taskflows share data controls with the calling taskflow (e.g. if they use one and same DC instance). By configuring TF not to share DC with the calling taskflow you would instruct each TF to use its own DC instance.

  • Taskflow activities and Bindings and Data control usage

    Hi,
    I have the following use-case; I have a bounded task flow and I sometimes add new activities (method call, view, ...). For each of them JDeveloper creates seperate page definitions. I noticed that sometimes the bindings (iterator, method, attribute) DataControl attribute changes even if I dropped that bindings from the same Datacontrol instance to the taskflow. It changes in a manner such that AppModuleDataControl1, AppModuleDataControl2,... In this case I guess, every pagedef has its own application module and are not aware of each other, for example you cannot find an instance of a row, even if you updated that instance in another activity in the same taskflow. DataBindings.cpx file has a lot of entries of datacontrol usages of the same BC4JDataControl definition. But this does not always happens, sometimes. By the way I have nested application modules. What am I doing wrong? Any help appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Salim

    Hi,
    yesterday I deleted all the datacontrol usage entires from databindings.cpx except the original one and today I started to work and noticed that some new datacontrol usage entries are added to databindings.cpx. I did not edit any pagedef, did not add any new activity. when I searched the project for the datacontrol usage instance name it only found matches in the databindings.cpx file, not in any other file.

  • Bindings not available in taskflow method pageDef [testcase included]

    Hello,
    I've migrated an application from ADF 11.1.1.4 to 11.1.2.1 and found some bounded taskflows not working.
    I replaced all declarative operations with Java methods and found out that #{bindings} is not available.
    I'm trying to perform a CreateWithParams operation having one NamedData. It's value is #{bindings.IdkContent.inputValue} - another iterator's current row attribute.
    In Java method I'm cheching that there is an iterator's current row and there is an attribute, but ADFUtils.getBoundAttributeValue("IdkContent") throws nullpointerexception.
    You can see it on the screenshot.
    Create operation NamedData resolves to null so it fails.
    Code:public String createContent() {
            _logger.finest("--- createContent");
            OperationBinding createContent = ADFUtils.findOperation("CreateContent");
            _logger.finest("--- createContent = "+createContent);
            Row row = ADFUtils.findIterator("KindsContentTypesInfView1Iterator").getCurrentRow();
            _logger.finest("--- Row = "+row);
            _logger.finest("--- Row.IdkContent = "+row.getAttribute("IdkContent"));
    //        _logger.finest("--- IdkContent = "+ADFUtils.getBoundAttributeValue("IdkContent")); // throws NullPointerException
            _logger.finest("--- param = "+createContent.getParamsMap().get("IdkContent"));
            createContent.getParamsMap().put("IdkContent", row.getAttribute("IdkContent"));
            createContent.execute();
            _logger.finest("--- done");
            return "next";
        }Here is a screenshot: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/208/bindings.png/
    I've checked DataBindings.cpx and everything looks fine. Recreated BTF also with the same resault.
    Why bindings isn't bindings available and how can I cope with it?
    This trouble is caused by automatic migration without any modifications, it was fine in ADF 11.1.1.4 and it fails in 11.1.2.1, so I consider it to be a bug.

    Hello Frank,
    I've recreated the whole taskflow including this pageDef with the same result.
    About an outputText... where do I add it to? The problem is in method action.
    I've added these lines into code:_logger.finest("--- bindings = "+JSFUtils.resolveExpression("#{bindings}"));
          // --- bindings = insert_content_insert_content_CreateContentJavaPageDef
    _logger.finest("--- bindings.IdkContent = "+JSFUtils.resolveExpression("#{bindings.IdkContent.inputValue}"));
          // NullPointerException at ... JSFUtils.resolveExpression(JSFUtils.java:52)Also there is an absolutely wierd thing. If I start a taskflow with a dummy page (just a commandButton to continue), everything works just fine.
    Look at the taskflow diagram: http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/5921/taskflow.png
    _logger.finest("--- bindings = "+JSFUtils.resolveExpression("#{bindings}"));
          // --- bindings = insert_content_insert_content_CreateContentJavaPageDef
    _logger.finest("--- bindings.IdkContent = "+JSFUtils.resolveExpression("#{bindings.IdkContent.inputValue}"));
          // --- bindings.IdkContent = 1229 And another detail. The taskflow is called in a popup as inline-document. If I run it not in a popup - everything works fine again.
    Couldn't create a testcase for quite a long time.

  • Error 500--Internal Server Error while opening a taskflow  in inline popup

    Hi,
    I am getting "Error 500--Internal Server Error" while opening a bounded taskflow as a popup from another bounded taskflow containing page fragments. The popup taskflow contains jspx pages. I even removed the jspx pages from the popup taskflow to check if the error is resulting from the bindings on the pages but still I get the same error. Hi Frank,
    Thanks for the reply. I am using it as an inline popup. I am trying to create command links dynamically in an iterator. When a link is clicked a popup window opens. The text of the link is passed to the popup window by creating a variable in the session scope ( I even tried request scope) by an action listener in the backing bean.
    I tried to create another simple application with a static command button which passes its text to popup window through a session scope variable. It worked fine. I am not sure why the same procedure is not working in my original application. Can you give me a hint what could possibly go wrong according the exception stack trace ?
    Thanks,

  • How to create a popup in an ADF train taskflow?

    I have a Train taskflow. Then i create a popup window in one of the buttons. When i run the JSF as an independent page, the popup works. But when i run the taskflow, the popup doesn't work.
    Is it a bug or is there some way to create a popup in a train.
    i have created the popup like this:
    1. i have created a control flow between the main JSF and popup page
    as dialog:Add.
    2. And in the button in the parent window, i have made the usewindow to true and action to dialog:Add.
    Any kind of helf would be very helpfull.

    Hey Pavle,
    You always ask the most interesting questions. ;) See my answers inline.
    <p>
    How to include another JSFF/JPSX in Rich dialog (beside inclusion of another region)?
    </p>
    <p>
    <b>Ric:</b> You can include a JSFF/JSPX using the jsp:include tag and a subview. Note that you will not be able to use ADFm within the fragments.
    </p>
    <p>
    If there is no other way than inclusion of region, how to make that new region "transaction-free" (as usually the pop-ups are for read-only operations and overhead of TaskFlow transaction is unnecessary). Generally, how to make Task Flow without transaction (if transaction imposes significant overhead – I'm not sure). (the documentation on Task Flows is unfinished in TP). And, finally, if there is no possibility of including JSFF without creating task-flow, is it possible to propose extension to ADFc allowing single JSFF to be included in region without explicitly defining task-flow for that single fragment.
    </p>
    <p>
    <b>Ric:</b> I think the above suggestion should work for static cases. However, if you
    are using bindings then the regions is the only approach available. This is not as heavy-wieght as it would appear. There is a way for regions or bounded taskflows to share datacontrols with with the parent page, which alleviates the concern of additional transactions. This feature can be found in the next preview. Note, this does not prevent you from defining a single page taskflow--in the one page case. I would like to see the feature extended so that if a region contains a single jsff reference there is no need to define an additional taskflow config file.
    </p>
    Thanks,
    Ric

    Hi all,
    I am trying to invoke a bounded taskflow from a region on a jspx page.
    My jspx page has: *<af:region value="#{bindings.citySearchTF.regionModel}" id="r1" />*
    Its page def file has :
    *<taskFlow id="citySearchTF" taskFlowId="/WEB-INF/tfs/bounded/cities/city-search-tf.xml#city-search-tf"*
    xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/controller/binding"/>
    My taskFlow file is :
    *<?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252" ?>*
    *<adfc-config xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/controller" version="1.2">*
    *<task-flow-definition id="city-search-tf">*
    *<default-activity>search-city.jsff</default-activity>*
    *<data-control-scope>*
    *<shared/>*
    *</data-control-scope>*
    *<view id="search-city.jsff">*
    *<page>/view/bounded/city/search-city.jsff</page>*
    *</view>*
    *<use-page-fragments/>*
    *</task-flow-definition>*
    *</adfc-config>*
    Now, while running this jspx page, I am getting the following errors:
    On Browser : ADF_FACES-30179:For more information, please see the server's error log for an entry beginning with: The UIViewRoot is null. Fatal exception during PhaseId: RESTORE_VIEW 1.

  • Taskflow context not maintained with ADF popups

    JDev build: JDEVADF_11.1.1.4.0_GENERIC_101212.1926.5912
    A coworker also reproduced this using JDEVADF_11.1.1.4.0_GENERIC_101227.1736.5923
    This is a simple WebCenter custom app created using JDev. I'm seeing exceptions when canceling a popup that contains a taskflow (the DocViewer taskflow). The popup was launched from another taskflow called Content Presenter. Upon canceling the popup (i.e., clicking the 'x' in the upper right corner), I see this error message in a javascript alert:
    "Target Unreachable, 'presenterNavigationBean' returned null
    ADF_FACES-60097:For more information, please see the server's error log for an entry beginning with: ADF_FACES-60096:Server Exception during PPR, #1"
    In the server console, I see these exceptions (abbreviated to keep this post a bit smaller, but I can provide the entire stack trace if necessary):
    java.lang.IllegalStateException: The expression "#{bindings.rbxzy5vg6jr1.regionModel}" (that was specified for the RegionModel "value" attribute of the region component with id "oc_4478173184region1") evaluated to null.
    This is typically due to an error in the configuration of the objects referenced by this expression.
    If it helps, the expression "#{bindings.rbxzy5vg6jr1}" evaluates to "null".
    If it helps, the expression "#{bindings}" evaluates to "portal_cpPageDef". Now using an empty RegionModel instead.

    (basically the same thing as above repeats a few times) presenterNavigationBean is the bean for the Content Presenter taskflow which launched the popup.
    The steps I'm taking to see this problem are:
    1. Launch JDev and create a WebCenter app, accepting all defaults. This requires the WebCenter extension, i.e., oracle.webcenter.framework_bundle.zip
    2. Create a content repository connection to an Oracle Content Repository
    3. Create a jspx in Web Content/oracle/webcenter/portalapp/pages using the global page template (select that checkbox). I typically call it cp.jspx, thus the references to "portal_cpPageDef" in the exceptions above.
    4. Open the jspx in source view, place the cursor after the pageTemplate tag, and add a "page customizable" component from the Oracle Composer group in the Component Palette. Save the page.
    5. Open Web Content/oracle/webcenter/portalapp/pagehierarchy/pages.xml and drag your jspx to the root of the hierarchy. Save all pages.
    6. Run the Web Content/index.html page.
    7. Login using weblogic/weblogic1
    8. Click on the page you created in the toolbar
    9. Click "shift + ctrl + E" to put the page in edit mode.
    10. click the "Add Content" button (it launches a popup)
    11. In the popup, click on "Content Management"
    12. Click on "Add" next to the Content Presenter taskflow and close the popup
    13. Now select an HTML document from the content repository by using the Content Presenter wizard (click on the first wrench icon in the chrome). If you don't have one, you'll have to add it to the repository.
    14. In the Content Presenter wizard, select the "Preview" page
    15. click the "Open in Document Viewer" button. This launches the DocViewer taskflow in an ADF popup.
    16. Click the cancel button in the upper right corner.
    17. This is when the javascript alert will show the errors mentioned above. The server console in JDev will show the stack traces.
    Please let me know if this is a configuration issue on my end or a bug within ADF. I'll monitor this thread closely today to provide any information that could be helpful asap. Thank you.

    It's the bean that the Content Presenter taskflow uses. All I did was create a page using the global page template and added the Page Customizable component to it, then customized the page to have an instance of the Content Presenter taskflow. I can use Content Presenter normally until I attempt to edit an HTML doc (which launches the DocViewer taskflow in an ADF popup). At that point I start seeing binding errors, like the taskflow context is lost.

  • Get bindings of a region in the page

    Hi folks,
    I am using Jdev 11.1.1.4.0
    I have a page fragment which has a region inside it and other components too. The components (not part of the region) are bound to a view object. I get the bindings of this page using
    FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    fc.getApplication().evaluateExpressionGet(fc, "#{bindings}", oracle.binding.BindingContainer.class);
    Now I iterate over the executable bindings to get the JUIteratorBinding inside the region (taskflow). But the VO iterator for this gives me null values for its attributes even though the screen has values displayed inside the components.
    The VO for the components not part of the region above displays the correct values. Its just the problem with the iterator in the taskflow. What might be the issue here?
    Thanks
    Vishal

    Here is a simple explanation of my use case. I have a page with a region, and below it, there is a form to display/accept some fields. When I click on save button on the page, I need to capture the values inside the region as well as the form below it. So I need to access the view object inside the region.
    Thanks
    Vishal

  • Exception Handling in bounded taskflows - expected behaviour

    Hi,
    I'm currently reviewing exception handling in bounded task flows and some things does not seems to be very clear for me.
    (q1) Does it make sense that a bounded task flow calls a method (via a method activity) defined on the page definition of another page (outside of the BTF) by using a #{data.xxxmyPageDef.myMethodName.execute} EL expression?
    (q2) Is is correct to expect the application to execute the method marked as ExceptionHandler in the taskflow, whenever an exception occurs?
    (q3) I created 5 different scenarios where I call a service method which throws an exception, from within a page fragment of the BTF.
    (q3 – sc1) Call a service method through the binding layer of the current page (by using #{bindings.xxx.execute})
    Result: A dialog containing the exception message appears.
    This is what I expected. Althought, the exception handler method does not seems to be invoked.(q3 – sc2) Call a service method through a task flow method activity using #{bindings.xxx.execute}
    Result: A dialog containing the exception message appears.
    This is what I expected. Althought, the exception handler method does not seems to be invoked.(q3 – sc3) Call a service method through a task flow method activity using #{data.myPageFragementPagedef.xxx.execute} (accessing the pageDef of the page fragment)
    Result: Nothing happens.
    This is not what I expected. Although, the exception handler method does nog seems to be invoked, I expect the ADF Error Handler to create a FacesMessage.(q3 – sc4) Call a service method through a task flow method activity using #{data.myPageContainingThePageFragmentPageDef.xxx.execute} (accessing the page containing the BTF region)
    Result: Nothing happens.
    This is not what I expected. Although, the exception handler method does nog seems to be invoked, I expect the ADF Error Handler to create a FacesMessage. (q3 – sc5) Call a service method through a task flow method activity using #{data.aPageOutsideTheBTFPageDef.xxx.execute} (accessing a page outside the BTW)
    Result: Nothing happens.
    This is not what I expected. Although, the exception handler method does nog seems to be invoked, I expect the ADF Error Handler to create a FacesMessage. (q4) How can it be possible that – without an exception handler – exceptions occur when calling method activities, without the exceptions being translated to FacesMessages?
    Thanks in advance,
    Koen Verhulst
    JDeveloper 11.1.1.4

    Koen,
    +(q1) Does it make sense that a bounded task flow calls a method (via a method activity) defined on the page definition of another page (outside of the BTF) by using a #{data.xxxmyPageDef.myMethodName.execute} EL expression?+
    No. Exceptions should be handled locally.
    +(q2) Is is correct to expect the application to execute the method marked as ExceptionHandler in the taskflow, whenever an exception occurs?+
    Only for exceptions that are before Render Response. The Render Response Phase is not handled in ADFc. So exceptions that occur in managed beans may fall through
    +(q3) I created 5 different scenarios where I call a service method which throws an exception, from within a page fragment of the BTF.+
    +(q3 – sc1) Call a service method through the binding layer of the current page (by using #{bindings.xxx.execute}) Result: A dialog containing the exception message appears.+
    This is what I expected. Althought, the exception handler method does not seems to be invoked.
    The binding layer has an error handler you can override in the DataBinings.cpx file
    +(q3 – sc2) Call a service method through a task flow method activity using #{bindings.xxx.execute}+
    Result: A dialog containing the exception message appears.
    This is what I expected. Althought, the exception handler method does not seems to be invoked.
    Again, you use the binding layer to invoke the service
    +(q3 – sc3) Call a service method through a task flow method activity using #{data.myPageFragementPagedef.xxx.execute} (accessing the pageDef of the page fragment)+
    Result: Nothing happens.
    This is not what I expected. Although, the exception handler method does nog seems to be invoked, I expect the ADF Error Handler to create a FacesMessage.
    Never use such a call. Its bad practice as there is no guarantee the container you reference is active. Always have the method call activity have its own binding defined when accessing a method call activity. I know there are lots of example floating aroundthat you #{data ...} and many are from 10.1.3. This should be avoided alltogether though
    +(q3 – sc4) Call a service method through a task flow method activity using #{data.myPageContainingThePageFragmentPageDef.xxx.execute} (accessing the page containing the BTF region)+
    Result: Nothing happens.
    This is not what I expected. Although, the exception handler method does not seems to be invoked, I expect the ADF Error Handler to create a FacesMessage.
    Again, this is not a proper use of the ADF framework.
    +(q3 – sc5) Call a service method through a task flow method activity using #{data.aPageOutsideTheBTFPageDef.xxx.execute} (accessing a page outside the BTW)+
    Result: Nothing happens. This is not what I expected. Although, the exception handler method does nog seems to be invoked, I expect the ADF Error Handler to create a FacesMessage.
    accessing a page outside the BTW (!!!) This should ring a worst practices alarm on your laptop (obviously doesn't do it either)
    +(q4) How can it be possible that – without an exception handler – exceptions occur when calling method activities, without the exceptions being translated to FacesMessages?+
    Exceptions are not handled in a single place but stacked. The business service raises an exception and passes it to the binding layer if not handled. The binding layer handles the exception and if it can't passes it to ADFc. ADFc can handle this exception if it is not during Render Response.
    Bottom line: There is no single point of exception handling. So as a recommendation for best practices
    - Catch and handle exceptions as close as possible to their origins
    - If things can go wrong, thy will - use try/catch blocks in managed beans
    - Use an exception handling activity in all bounded task flows. In the case of task flow call activities being used exceptions can bubble up to the caller. However, this would take users out of their current application context
    - Exceptions not handled in ADFc can be intercepted by overriding the application task flow exception handler (used by the exception handler activities). This would give you a chance e.g. to handle issues during Render Response
    - Never fight the framework, never bend the framework: Don't use out of scope access to page definitions and resources. Exception handling is not a replacement for bad code practices (sorry for saying this, its not meant to be rude) :-)
    Though I don't have a qualified numbers of bugs open for exception handling in ADF between 11.1.1.4 and now (and some that are open), but there are issues reported in this area. If there is something that really feels wrong, please go ahead and file a bug and provide a test case for development to have a look. The Render Response issue, for example is something we are aware of and that is in discussion (afaik knows, there is a change in exception handling in JSF 2 that may have an impact to what we can do in ADFc).
    thanks

    Answer depends on how do you add it. From the stack trace, it appears that you are using jsp:include to add jsff - this is not supported( more precisely, binding for jsff is not supported in this case as the Run time will look for the binding definition only in the parent page's page definition file)
    You can do this if your jsff is part of a task flow, which is added as region to another page.

  • Calling a taskflow with input parameters in a page template

    Hi,
    I have a taskFlow with an inputParameter, a page template with an attribute and a fragment using this template.
    My fragment is passing #{bindings.MyColumn.inputValue} to the template attribute, where bindings.MyColumn is an attributeValues pointing to an iterator.
    My template is calling the taskFlow and pass #{attrs.myColumn} to the input parameter. There is an outputText too, displaying #{attrs.myColumn}.
    +fragment -- #{bindings.MyColumn.inputValue} --> template -- #{attrs.myColumn} --> taskFlow+
    The problem is that #{attrs.myColumn} is resolved to null when is passed to the taskFlow inputParameter. But in the outputText value, #{attrs.myColumn} is resolved to the good value.
    I don't understand what is happening.
    If I pass #{data.fragmentPageDef.MyColumn.inputValue} directly from my template to the taskFlow input parameter it works, but no with #{attrs.myColumn}.
    How can I do to pass a template attribute to a taskFlow inputParameter?

    I think it is more something with ADF lifecycle.
    Something like : #{attrs.myColumn} is resolved in a phase and the taskFlow in another. I don't know.
    I am trying to understand what is done when. I think the answer is in "Prepare Model" and "Prepare Render" phases, but I am far to understand all this...
    Any help is welcomed.

    Hi,
    Pretty much. However, you got the event part wrong, which is mostly my fault here. First, let put down some general JSF facts about event handling.
    1. http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/api/javax/faces/component/UIComponent.html#queueEvent(javax.faces.event.FacesEvent)
    2. So, basically, queuing an event on a component means queuing it on its parent until you reach the UIViewRoot that will really actually queue it. That strategy allows iterating components to intercept event queued on their children to record the row index as well so that the data model can be synchronized correctly during the broadcast phase (see http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/api/javax/faces/component/UIData.html#queueEvent(javax.faces.event.FacesEvent) and http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/api/javax/faces/component/UIData.html#broadcast(javax.faces.event.FacesEvent))
    3. Exceptions that aren't handled by the exception handler are thrown during broadcast or various process* methods.
    So, the catch component must leverage these facts to intercept events queued on its children (by overriding queueEvent method) wrapping the original event in a custom on that flag the catch component itself as the source of the event. The result will be that the broadcast method of the catch component will be called to handle the event. The broadcast method must then unwrap the event (to get the original event), gets the original source, then call originalSource.broadcast(originalEvent) within a try-catch block.
    Does it make any more sense put that way? Note that it's an obscure part of JSF so I cannot make it incredibly simple either.
    Regards,
    ~ Simon
