TCP/IP address problem

Hi all, i am trying to remote communicate with my Thermotron oven that has a 8800 programmer via Ethernet.  I have downloaded the chambers instrument driver files from their web site and would like to use these in my program.  All that i am trying to do is take a temperature reading remotely.
I have set up max VISA TCP/IP Resources and can communicate that way.  I can also communicate through Thermotrons supplied software and also by using the low level TCP palette (TCP open connection.vi).
However why trying to use the Labview instrument driver files, eg Initialize vi, i am receiving errors.  I think the problem is the resource name address i am using.  That is "TCPIP0::ipaddress:ort:OCKET"
Can anyone suggest a fix?

The problem was that the instrument drivers required IVI engine.

  • Tcp/ip communication problem

    hello,
what i have is a tcp/ip communication problem.   the server needs to see the connection on the client side terminate before it can reply with data.  so i'm not sure the best way to
solve this.  i tried to use a sequence structure to have the client open a connection  and then send data across the port and then terminate the connection.  the next part in the sequence would then open a connection and wait for the reply form the server.  i had this in a while loop. an example vi would be very appreciated

    Hi,
You can search for TCP Communicator -Passive.vi and TCP Communicator -Active.vi examples in the example finder by selecting Help->Find Examples.

  • Tcp/ip address

How can I find the addresses of my peripherals, printers, scanners etc.

Most peripherals these days are USB or Firewire, not Ethernet so they have no TCP/IP addresses. If your printer is a network printer (Ethernet) then it will have a TCP/IP address but what the address is depends upon whether the printer is configured with a fixed IP address you assigned or if the printer uses DHCP where the address is supplied by your router. Your router can provide the address supplied to the printer by opening the router's configuration page in your browser or using Airport Utility if it's an AEBS.

  • Programmatically changing the TCP/IP address of Windows Vista / 7 / 8

    Hi there!
I'm pretty new to LabVIEW (started 2 months ago) and still have a long way ahead of me, so please forgive me if anything that I ask is too basic.
I'm trying to change the IP properties of the PC via LabVIEW for some bigger software I'm working on.
I can easily do it in Windows XP using the System Exec function to call cmd.exe and then use netsh commands, as previously explained for example here:
    https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Programmatically-changing-the-IP-address-of-Win-XP/m-p/410533/highl...
    https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Change-IP-number-and-Subnet-mask-with-LabView/m-p/407536/highlight/...
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/How-to-change-the-TCP-IP-settings-of-the-LAN-connection-from-LV/m-p/...
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Change-the-computer-IP-address-in-LabVIEW/m-p/167481?query.id=108803... ...
But then, since I want to run my software in Windows 7 (& by extension to any Windows OS), I have a problem: netsh asks for elevated rights.
So, the next problem is: how do I run cmd.exe (or any other programm?, by extension) as administrator (from LabVIEW)?. Note that I'm using an account with admin rights. But I would prefer not having to disable the User Account Control configuration, and I don't want to force the user to any interaction (clicking in pop-ups, or right-clicking in anything), I want it to be as automatized as possible.
I did a bit of research and couldn't find anyway to do it, neither any command to run with cmd, so the two similar solutions that came to my mind are very rudimentary and kind of dirty:
Use DLLs to make LabVIEW press the keys necessary to open cmd running as admin via key shortcuts (using a variation of https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-29563 and the key shortcuts from here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/run-a-command-as-administrator-from-the-windows-vista-r...). Here, I open the Window menu (with LWIN), properly writes "cmd", and then uses CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER ok... but then the User Account Control appears and LabView keeps doing the commands (I want ALT+Y or LEFT & then ENTER)... without affecting to the UAC! If I make LabVIEW wait a bit and manually close the UAC I succesfully have the command prompt... but LabVIEW is still incapable of write the text that I'm giving it to him (the netsh commands). LabVIEW runs the software, but it's like the UAC & the command prompt are running in a higher? level and are not affected by LV. If I do the same over a .txt I succesfuly have the intended text. Any ideas about this?
Create a link to cmd.exe and change the properties to "Run as administrator", then use System Exec to call the link, expecting to open a command prompt with elevated rights, and then write the netsh commands either with DLLs (that might not work according to my first solution) or using the "standard input" of System Exec? (not sure if this is possible). But then System Exec gives me an error (code 2) when trying to execute the .lnk and so the command prompt does not open. The error code stands for "Error 2 occurred at an unidentified location. Possible reason(s): LabVIEW: Memory is full." Any idea about how to solve this?
The conclusion is that I'm stuck with two possible solutions none of them working.
Maybe there's a more simple solution that I didn't think about?
    Solutions to these problems?
    Any different proposals?
Thanks in advance for any tip or help!
Note: I titled the thread as Windows Vista, 7 & 8 since I assume all of them asks for admin rights when changing IPs. In case there are other people with the same problem, altough right now I'm only using XP & 7.

First question: Why do you have to change OS properties via a custom application? I know such requirements can exist (sigh...) but nevertheless it seems a little bit weird to me ;-)
    OK, now an idea:
Run cmd.exe via task scheduler. Here is a how to do it: http://maximumpcguides.com/windows-vista/run-a-program-with-administrative-privileges-without-uac-pr...

  • IP Address Problem

I have a PowerMac G4 Quicksilver 2002 running OSX 10.3.9, with Verizon DSL service. I suddenly have a very strange problem with my IP Address and some erratic behavior. When the internet connection works, my network settings are:
    Location: Verizon DSL
    Show: Built-in Ethernet
    for TCP/IP
    Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
IP Address: 71.xxx.xxx.xx (a series of automatically assigned numbers)
Subnet: 255.xxx.xxx.x (a series of automatically assigned numbers)
Router: 71.xxx.xxx.x (a series of automatically assigned numbers)
Recently, without changing any of the settings, I get an IP Address something like 169.xxx.xxx.xx. This IP Address does not work. The tech people at Verizon Online said that the line from my DSL modem to their server was fine, but that the automatically assigned IP Address should be the 71.xxx.xxx.xx number.
There is no pattern to this error. Originally the connection would work in the morning and begin the error IP Address about 4:00 pm. Today when I booted, the connection was out and the 169.xxx showed in the network window. I used the internal Apple modem and a secondary dial-up account and could connect to the internet. After I disconnected the dial-up, the Ethernet connection worked, showing the correct IP Address of the 71.xxx numbers.
Does anyone have any ideas what's going on here. Thanks.

I seem to have this (or a very similar) problem repeatedly after updates. I use a wireless connection to the internet when at work, which mostly is trouble free. However following the last two itunes/quicktime updates and now also following the latest security update (Security Update 2006-005 (10.3.9)) which deals with the airport protocol, I have had this problem.
Where the airport managed to connect and obtain a valid IP address before, with exactly the same settings the computer uses a 'self-assigned' IP address following the update. As you observe the self assigned IP address does not enable you to connect.
However following the itunes/quicktime updates the problem resolved itself after a few days ( a few hours the second time) and did not reoccur. I have only just encountered the problem following the security update and hope it also resolves itself soon.
Any advice on how to avoid this altogether would be appreciated.

  • Self-assigned IPS address problem

    Hi,
I have Airport Extreme on G4 with OSX 10:3.9. On open networks, (such as in a coffee shop) I get on no problem. But in some homes with wireless base stations I can't get on, no matter what we try. I keep getting the message:
"Airport has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet."
I travel a lot and this has become a real problem. I've tried everything to try and figure out how to make my Airport receive the IP address assigned to it by the base station, but with no luck. Does anyone know the secret?
    Thanks so much!!!
    Blake

Do you have "ask to join new networks" enabled in System Preferences / Network with the "Airport" option in the left hand pane selected, Dale? If not, try enabling it.
Is Airport the "top" option in the left hand side of the Network panel? If not, try shifting it to the top using the "Set Service order" option (available through the "rosette" next to the "+" and "-" buttons.
In the System preferences /Network panel, with Airport selected on the left, If you click on the "Advanced" button and select the TCP/IP tab, do you have "Using DHCP" selected in the IPv4 box and "Automatically" chosen in the IPv6 box?
How are you going about seeking to join the networks? (the process can vary depending on the provider)
    Cheers

  • Tcp open connection problem while parallel tcp communication

I have a problem with TCP Open connection while running another TCP transfer.
While I run the Simple Data Client/Server example (..NI\LabVIEW 2010\examples\comm\TCP.llb) I would like to open another TCP connection according this simple VI attached. This runs on another port than the running Client/Server example. When the address of the PC to be connected to, is known to the network (IP/Name) all is fine, when the address is a name unknown to the network, than a significant delay in the datatransfer of the client/server example occures. Hope that anybody can reproduce/explain this behaviour.

    I really appreciate your comments,
to make sure that we do see the same effects let me exactly explain what I see: I open the example vi's : Data Client/Server example (..NI\LabVIEW 2010\examples\comm\TCP.llb. You can open it localy that means on one PC or open one  on another PC. To make it simple for the first try open it localy and run both vi's according the example instructions. On the Data Client.vi I see now the samples updating many times per second (should be every 25 ms, because the server produces these in this intervall). All is like expected. Now open the TCP_Open_blockingproblem.vi from above and let it run unmodified (except you have an PC named 'DataServer0'). What I see now in the Data Client.vi : The samples update came nearly to an halt (this is why I called it 'blocking'). Updates only every 6 seconds (here in my network setup). Now stop the TCP_Open_blockingproblem.vi. The DataClient.vi is running on the same speed as before. Now modify the 'DataServer0' to a pc name existing in your network and start again. This time the sample speed is not degraded. Can you confirm this behaviour ?.
I did recognise the effect for the first time while I desigend an appliaction  based on the STM library and posted the effects I saw, here : http://forums.ni.com/t5/Components/Simple-TCP-Messaging-STM/td-p/583438/page/5. Like Christian Loew supposed there is a bunch of code around. It is a multi tier application receiving TCP traffic on some ports and distributing on others. So I decided to isolate the problem from STM and my own code and came to the simplest code which I thought it was possible where the problem still occures which I described above.
Your suggestion to lookup the names once in the beginning of the application is a possible way, but I must say with the experience now I am still very uncertain of more unexpected future side effects during lookup, especially on network setups at customersites where I have no direct access. So I decided to give an UDP registration mechanism a try, like it is realised in the STM Examples of HostReceiver.vi and Target Sender.vi.
    Thanks for following so far,
    Jörn

  • Self-assigned IP address problems

I'm having a problem with my wireless router connection (my Airport card shows the network, but the "fan" is greyed out, and if I choose the network it still doesn't connect - When I check network status I get "AirPort connected to network, but has self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect...)
I can temporarily fix the problem by going into System Preferences to Network to Airport to Preferred Networks to Assist Me and THEN it will go to my network and turn on the path.
I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 on a G5 iMac with the original AirPort Extreme card, and routing through a Linksys WRT54G attached to a cable modem.
There are a lot of networks in my area, according to my wireless "fan".
If changing channels on my router might fix this, I'd like to give it a try, but I don't know how, AND I don't want to ruin the signal to the other computers in the house, which, by the way, work just fine when the iMac loses the signal.
If there's another way to tell the router to ignore the self-assigned IP address, or to get the AirPort to stop providing this ...
The problem is obviously the self-assigned IP address. The question is what is causing this?
Is it the AirPort Extreme Card?
Is it the Linksys Wireless router?
How do I test to see which it is, without losing the signal from the router to the other computers in the house?
With so many people having the same problem, there must be an answer somewhere.
Can some kind soul please point out the correct path? My tech support (teenager) will be home from college this week, and if I can prove to him that it won't ruin everything I think he'll be up to the challenge.

    Hi,
Thank you Linc & dwb, I've had no issues with the router in the 14 months its been installed.  But tonight I've turned off the NAS and since then no drop off for wifi/ or assigning itself an IP address.
I will switch on the NAS once again and see what happens, would it be best to assign a static IP to the NAS?  One thing I have found when checking the homehub connection details, the mac air connects at the 5Gz Wireless as does the Kindle, which has also suffered from losing the wifi connection, where as my macbook pro only connects at 2.4Gz and like I said has not had any issue.  Not sure if this anything to do with the problem or not?
All I do know is that since the NAS was introduced then the problems began, so again not sure if its the NAS impacting on the router or a router setting?
    thanks

  • Self-assigned IP address problem - My solution

I am new to this board and created an ID just to write this post. When I searched for this self-assigned IP problem, I found almost 1 million results on Google so obviously I am not alone.
I have this problem off and on on the wireless network at home with a Netgear router. It has never happened at my office with a D-Link router. Never happened at Starbucks or McDonalds (yes, they all offer WiFi here). But it happened at one Pizza Hut and it also at Christchurch airport about a week ago.
Deleting one of the plist files worked once at home many months ago but this week nothing worked. My Mac usually goes back to normal by itself after I "****" it out at other WiFi networks but not this time. As a last resort, I asked my brother (our family's I.T. guy) to change the router as I had not tried that fix. He didn't do it but a day later, he gave me to oddest solution that worked in a blink of an eye.
The solution? Key in a wrong password!!!
    1) Go to Keychain Access, delete the keychain for the problematic network.
    2) Connect back to the network
    3) Enter a WRONG password that is similar to the right one. For example, if your password is Apple123, try APPLE123. You should still connect to the network and get a self-assigned IP.
    4) Repeat Step 1. To be safe, you might want to re-boot now. I did but probably didn't have to!
    5) Repeat Step 2
    6) Enter the right password
I'm not all that techie so all I understood from what he said was:
    1) It's probably a non-Apple router bug
    2) It's a hex key problem. The password wasn't being encoded/decoded properly so the router wasn't assigning the computer an IP address. Wasn't even reading the password which is why I could connect with a wrong one.
He deduced that from reading a post from a guy in Spain who thought he had carelessly entered the wrong password and was wasting the community's time with his posting. I had read that post a couple of days ago too! But obviously I thought the Spaniard had just entered the wrong password and there was no fix for me to try out. My brother is a genius!
I guess it then makes sense why fixes like:
    1) Disabling the firewall
    2) Deleting preference lists
    3) Deleting keychains
    4) Changing the router
    5) Renewing DHCP lease
    6) Resetting the router
...have worked for many people and not others. None of them actually fix the cause of the problem. Having searched for 3 days, I could not find the REAL reason why this happened. Personally from all I have read, I think it must be a hex key problem with Netgear and Linksys routers. I see those 2 names mentioned a **** of a lot. Maybe it's another one of those gadgets built more for PCs that don't work perfectly with Macs all the time. We used to have an Apple Airport Extreme base station but that got fried by lightning. It was not cheap.... So technically, it really isn't Apple's problem. I think if we used an Apple router, we wouldn't have a self-assigned IP address. Maybe that's why they haven't "fixed" the problem after so many years.
Anyway, let me know if my brother's fix worked for you.
This is my good deed for the weekend! Goodnight....!

Hello, thanks for the tip/post, & a warm welcome to the forums!

  • IMessage contact address problems

I am a little perplexed about how to set up iMessage correctly.
I have iMessage activated.  My settings are that "I can be reached by iMessage" at my phone number and email.  I "Start new conversations from" my email.
The first problem I have is when I talk to my girlfriend (she has an iPhone).  I frequently have two different iMessage threads with her and it is very frustrating.  In one thread, if I click on her Contact info it highlights her phone number.  The other thread, it highlights her email.  Its annoying to not keep everything in one unified thread.  Is there anyway to do this? Is the problem on her end or my end?
Keeping the above problem in mind, I would also like to unify my iMessage with my iPad messaging.  I get this to work sporatically, but I would like it if I could consistently see all my iMessage conversations in my iPad as if I were looking at my iPhone.  My girlfriend also has an iPad (although she hasn't been using it for messaging) so I would like to be able to set up the same for her.
I just don't understand the need for separating iMessages into two threads depending on the address.  It would seem to be easier for everyone if you just kept it unified based on the name.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, did you ever fix this problem? I'm having the same issue.

  • DHCP beginning address problem.

    Hi guys,
I cannot understand how to configure my TC. I put exactly the same network settings as they were in the Airport Express to share the Internet connection. Everything works fine except the internet itself. The problem as I see it is that dhcp beginning address cannot be set far away from the static IP. In my case, the static IP is 213.170.70.** and I only can change these ** last figures in the dhcp range.
But this conflicts with my provider and I have no internet while the TC itself works fine. If I set "share the only address" it doesn't help either.
    Anybody can help?
    Many thanks in advance.

None really. These are the three IP Address ranges available for Private Networks. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has directed the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) to reserve these IPv4 address ranges for private networks. This has been published in RFC 1918.

  • Web server default address problem

When I installed the new Xserve with Leopard Server to replace an old G4 running OSX 10.3 server my default Web address changed from: http://xxxx.xxxx.xxx to http://xxxx.xxxx.xxx/groups/workgroup/
I just want it to go back to the original way it was. I'm living in a Windows world and I'm the only Mac person here.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem this morning with a clean install of 10.5 Leopard Server.
I called apple and spoke to a really good guy who ran through a diagnosis with me and advised that under server admin you have your default site built in, what to do is click on that original site then there is a little box under it where you are able to duplicate the site, click this, then basically make everything the same and try through safari and it should work, mine works perfect now.
I asked him why this happens and a easy answer was oh its a glitch we aim to fix it as soon as possible.
    Hope this helps
