TDM Apple Excel add-in

I see the .exe file for the Add-on for Excel on a windows machine.   Does anyone have a way of reading TDM files (in Excel) on a Macintosh?  (Excel 2008).  I currently don't have access to a windows machine to process the files.

Hi CptUnreal,
Have you tried looking at this KB: VI-Based API for Writing TDMS Files? Also, this document may be informative: TDMS Port to Mac.

  • TDM-Excel-Add-In controlled by vba

    Hello
    We've got an application that generates many TDMS-Files. Now I have to import these files to Excel.
    I use the TDM-AddIn and this works fine when I do the import manually.
    But I'd like to automate the import using VBA.
    I tried the trick with "SendKey" (see http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=60&message.id=5441&query.id=12678#M5441)
    but this works (on my systems) only with Excel 2003. Unfortunatelly it has to work with Excel 2007 as well.
    Has anyone an idea in this direction?
    Many thanks
    Raffael

    Hi Raffael,
    your question is very interesting. I used my contacts and asked at R&D for DIAdem in Aachen for any informations on this. They told me that there is a new version of the Excel-Add-In planned for release in nearly 2 weeks. This means you should wait a little bit and then you can use a new API with several features like VBA-Programming and also something like controlling the Excel-Add-In from DIAdem-Script.
    I gave the link you posted in this forum, to the developers and they will reply there as soon the release is finished.

  • TDM Excel Add-In truncate

    We're experiencing a wierd issue with the TDM Excel Add-In where data is truncating depending on from where the file is read.
    We haveTDMS (binary encoded data) files on a lab PC and copies of these files in a server folder.
    When we run the TDM Excel Add-In to import these files the behavior is different when it comes from a "local" drive versus when the same data file (binary compare confirms they are the same) comes from a server folder.
    We normally get ~8900 rows and when it is read from the server we get ~1400 rows per control.
    A test of a different server was also performed with the same baffling results.
    This previously worked as expected from both locations.
    Is anyone else seeing this issue?  Do you have a fix??

    Hi Perkin,
     Just to clarify, when you import from a local file, you are able to load the entire file (approx 8900 rows). However, when you load the same file from the server, you are only able to load a portion of the file (approx 1400 rows).
    Does this happen every time you load the file?
    You mentioned that this used to work, do you know of any changes that you have made since that time? (Consider software installation, removal, firewall or network changes).
    If you try to load a smaller file (such as one with fewer than 1400 rows) does the entire file get loaded?
     Also, please do let us know about your software versions, share types, etc. as AndreasK mentioned.
    Thanks, and have a great afternoon!

  • TDMS Excel Add-in Does not support new Excel 2007 Row Limit

    First off I would like to say the TDM/TMDS format is really useful. It allows you to do all kinds of things that would be a real pain if you tried to do it with tab delimited spreadsheets. You can format data into excel sheets for analysis with seperate tabs and channel names over the columns and the whole nine yards. You can even throw error messages into the properties that show up on the first tab.
    The problem occurs when the user is working with really large files. Excel 2003 and all previous versions of Excel have limits of 65,536 rows by 256 columns. Until the latest version of the TDM Excel Add-in if you tried to import files larger than this it would throw an error and wouldn't create any file at all. Now it imports a file and you specify the index, which is so much better.
    Excel 2007 supports 1,048,576 rows by 16,384 columns! This is really useful. But the current version of the TDM Excel Add-In does not support the new row limit. Is there any way we can get a version of this for 2007 that supports the new row limits? It would be cool if the Add-in could auto-detect the version and change the import limits accordingly but that may be too much to ask. Has anyone else run into these problems?
    My client would like to record hour long files at 200Hz all day long. Thats 720,000 rows of data per file. Yes, thats a lot but excel can handle it. The TDMS importer cannot. Of course there are work arounds and we will have to use one if a new version of the TDM Excel Add-in is not made soon. Is there a new version coming? Please say yes.

    I redownloaded the file. I couldnt figure out how to completely uninstall the verison of the TDM importer already installed, so I just tried to install the one i downloaded. The installer said "no software will be installed or removed" and I had to click cancel because there was no next option.
    I tried to import the data again with the importer and got the same 'selective import' dialog box again, limiting me to the 65,535 rows.
    Here is what I am getting.
    How do I uninstall the add-in so that I may reinstall it?
    I uploaded a copy of one of my tdms files to the ftp.ni.com/incoming directory for you to download and attempt to import.
    File: "442732.zip"  size: 82.2 mb
    A little more information about the tdms file
    The data is 14 columns of single precision float and is about 720k rows. There are four sections (sheets in the same excel document) with the data converted differently in each tab/section. The data is the same amount in each section as well. There are also a couple sections listing the constants and scalars used to convert the data, as well as the typical first page of tdms information about the data.

    Are you sure it hasn't been installed before? Under Control Panel...Programs and Features...National Instruments Software...do a "Change/Remove" and look down the list for "NI TDM Excel Add-In verX.XX". If found, uninstall and re-run the installer for the newest version.
    This might help as well.

  • Convert/Import TDMS to Excel

    So I have some LabVIEW code which logs to TDMS just fine.  I installed the TDMS Excel Add on to Excell 2007 and it imports the TDMS just fine and it looks good.
    What I would like do do now is instead of just having that TDMS file, I would also like to have the XLS equivalent as well.  As if I imported the TDMS in Excel, and then went to save the workbook as XLS or XLSX.  So I wanted to programatically import the TDMS file, get the active workbook from Excel, and then programatically save the active workbook as XLS, or XLSX in the same directory as the original TDMS.
    I'm having problems with the first step of my plan.  I see here there are some details about how to call the TDMS import using ActiveX but when I use it I get an error.  Calling  ShowAboutDlg or ShowConfigDlg work just fine, but when I call the Import it I get a "An unknown error occured: 0x80004003" which I believe is a invalid pointer.
    Attached is the VI I was using to try to import a TDMS file.  Saved in 8.20, running TDM Importer 3.1.0.25, with Excel 2007, on XP SP3. Thanks.
    EDIT: The VI is pointing to a TDMS file which comes with LabVIEW 2009, this path may need to be changed.

    Import TDMS 82.vi ‏9 KB

    Yeah sorry forgot that I used that OpenG VI, attached is another version which doesn't use it for those of you not on the OpenG bandwagon.
    I've been using this VI for a little while now and it's worked great on several machines.  But recently I've started to see problems where I get an error 97, LabVIEW:  Null Refnum was passed in as input.
    This happens for me coming out of the property node ITDMAddin.  I probed the reference going in and its value is 0, with the variant data also of value 0.  Any ideas on how this could happen or what can be done.
    I changed the COMAddIn propety node from Object to Description and the string is "National Instruments TDM Importer for MS Excel" So that makes me believe that I am getting the reference to the AddIn but for some reason the Object property returns a value of 0.
    EDIT: Okay I think I figured it out, if Open New Instance is TRUE for the Open Automation it works fine. Not sure why but it fixes it, a new version with the fix is up.

  • Can we retrieve Data of Single Dimension in multiplecolumns in Excel Add-in

    Hi All,
    I have strange requirement of having single dimension in two columns while retrieving data from essbase using Excel Add-In.
    Logically I feel it is not possible however we are looking if there is any possibilty of work arround for this requirement.
    Whenevr i am trying to retrieve data using a macro on a single column we are able to successfully do it. But in case of multiple columns we are unable to do it.Do let us know if there is any work arround or alternative method to handle this requirement.
    Regards,
    Krishna

    Not completely sure what you mean by "single dimension in two columns". Normally this request comes down to wanting to show multiple levels from a dimension, e.g...
    _______________"Sales"
    "100" "100-10" 12345
    "100" "100-20" 34567...which is definitely not possible.
    If you just mean data like this (with multiple columns from the same dimension)...
    ________"100-10"   "100-20"
    "Sales"  12345      34567...then that should work fine.
    If you could post a sample of what you'd like to see, it would be easier to answer.

    Is it possible for Apple to add "key" to the view options selection?

    DJ1970,  Unfortunately no.  iTunes does not have the key in the database.
    People who want to know the key of a song can use (unless they already have perfect pitch!) key detection software such as Mixmeister.
    Once you know the key, iTunes does not even have a field to store it, although you could stick it into Comments or some other unused text field such as Grouping.  These fields are indeed viewable in iTunes.

  • Excel Add-In with WorkbookOpen event causes error in Word

    EDIT: New information
    I have narrowed the problem to a specific code. Following code produces the error message (see below in the original part):
    public partial class ThisAddIn
    private void ThisAddIn_Startup(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
    Globals.ThisAddIn.Application.WorkbookOpen += Application_WorkbookOpen;
    void Application_WorkbookOpen(Excel.Workbook Wb)
    int i = 0;
    private void ThisAddIn_Shutdown(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
    #region VSTO generated code
    /// <summary>
    /// Required method for Designer support - do not modify
    /// the contents of this method with the code editor.
    /// </summary>
    private void InternalStartup()
    this.Startup += new System.EventHandler(ThisAddIn_Startup);
    this.Shutdown += new System.EventHandler(ThisAddIn_Shutdown);
    #endregion
    It does not matter whether I unregister the WorkBookOpen event in the ThisAddIn_Shutdown method or not. Whenever this piece of code is present Word gives me the error.
    It seems to be a bug in Excel. Can anyone test and confirm my assumption? Does anyone know a workaround?
    ORIGINAL
    I have a problem with my Excel add-in (VSTO) in a very specific situation. For some reason I can't debug the add-in when it is happening.
    In Word it is possible to insert and edit OLE objects. In this specific situation a user wants to insert and edit an Excel sheet (INSERT -> Table -> Excel Spreadsheet).
    Let's say that Excel is not running. In an ideal world the Excel process is started by Word when the user edits the spreadsheet. The Excel process is terminated when the Word document is closed. This works fine, if my Excel add-in is deactivated.
    If the Excel add-in is activated the user cannot edit the spreadsheet in Word. An error with following message is shown within Word: "The program used to create this object is Excel. That program is either not installed on your computer or it is
    not responding. To edit this object, install Excel or ensure that any dialog boxes in Excel are closed". Also the Excel process which was started by Word is not terminated when closing the document or exiting Word. Excel started by the user does not give
    any error message. No dialog is opened. The add-in works fine. So there must be an error with the Excel add-in when Excel is started by Word.
    I can reproduce the error with and without an attached debugger (Visual Studio). But for some reason there is no exception caught by Visual Studio while the error is happening.
    Can anyone help me how to investigate on that error?
    Yavuz

    Hi Yavuz,
    Based on my investigatiton, when the Excel doesn't start up by user the add-in would shut down immediately. So when the workbook open event was fired the callback already be relreased.
    As a workaround, we can use application.UserControl to detect whether the Excel applicaiton was started by user. And here is the code for your reference:
    private void ThisAddIn_Startup(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
    if(Application.UserControl)
    Globals.ThisAddIn.Application.WorkbookOpen += Application_WorkbookOpen;
    Please let me know whether it works for you.

  • Issue with Excel add in

    Hi Experts,
    Some of the users receive the following error message while attempting to retrieve data on a previously-working query in essbase excel add in:
    "Essbase has encountered an internal Excel error. Your sheet will not be overwritten and none of your data will be lost. However, you are strongly urged to exit Excel and restart in order to clear up the problem"
    Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Essbase client and also tried with essbase add in version 9.3.1.3, but nothing worked.
    Please let us know your thoughts on the below issue.

    I, too, would recommend rebuilding the workbook.. Excel workbooks can get some funny behaviors, particularly if they contain VBA code. VBA in Excel stays 'semi-compiled' and never really clears itself out and a bunch of phantom references remain (and are completely hidden). I have seen some very strange behavior cleaned up by rebuilding the workbook..
    My old friend, Excel MVP Rob Bovey, has a utility specifically built to rebuild workbooks at http://www.appspro.com/Utilities/Utilities.htm.

  • Excel Add-in connections not refreshed

    I am using Essbase 9.3.1.4. I have created a new planning application and set up the security / provisioning in shared services and syncronized to EAS. The security for the user works correctly in the planning application but when we try to connect via the Excel Add-in, the new planning application does not appear on list of available applications/database in the connection box. It does list existing planning applications available to the user, but not the new one. Does anyone know in v9.3.1.4 what file the Essbase add-in connection box is reading to present the available application/databases to the user for selection? For some reason it seems this file is either not being updated or it is ready an old version of the file. We have the same issue when using SmartView ad-hoc, any non-admin userid cannot access this new application. SmartView Planning does work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

    A quick fix would be to create a shortcut to ESSEXCLN.XLL in the Excel startup folder (varies by install, usually c:\program files\microsoft office\office\xlstart\)Jeff McAhren<br>Dallas, TX

  • Essbase Excel Add in not working

    Hi All,
    I have installed hyperion 11.1.2.2 version in windows 2008 server(64 bit system)
    Server is up and running fine.!
    I have installed Excel addin, then i got one issue here. When i opened excel, Smartview is displayed on the top but Essbase is not displayed. I tried so many ways, but no use.
    give me some suggestions regarding to solve this issue..!

    Mady, I hope you were not trying to open the Add-Ins directly from Windows. The Essbase XLL and XLA work within Excel as Add-Ins, not as executables. When I doubled-clicked on the XLL and XLA, I got the Microsoft Security warning, which I assume that is what you were doing wrong. You can also google Excel Add-Ins on how to manage it if you are not sure what to do. It's very straight forward.

  • BPC for excel Add-in Conflict

    Hi,
    I'm trying to find out if there any known excel add-ins that conflict with BPC for Excel (v7) and how the conflicts manifest themselves.
    I am currently specifically interested in conflicts with SAP BW BEx Analyser but would be interested in any others also.
    Would be grateful if anyone could shed some light on this.
    Many thanks

    Usually, Crashing means excel will show crashing error message and restart it.
    Excel will just return excel error message. NOT BPC or 3rd Party ADD_IN error message because it happened at the EXCEL while it is processing request from BPC addin and other 3rd partty Addin. (Of course BEX is SAP product. that's why BPC NW support BEX report in 7.5 but still it is not fully integrated with MS.)
    Sometimes it happens when retriving data from BPC or sending data. As you know those are critical functionality of BPC.
    Again, it depends on the addin but based on my experience, Hyperion Addin and BEX addin had a problem when it runs together with BPC addin.  some simple addin might not have any issue but still recommendation is not using 3rd party addin because we don't know where the error comes.
    Thank you.
