Teaching Abroad Educators Discount?

Hello,
I am currently teaching abroad in South Korea and I am interested in using the Creative Cloud for some class projects.  I am tried setting up an educators account, but because my school is abroad, it wasn't listed.  Is it possible to get the educators discount for teachers abroad?
Thanks in advance!
- Meryl

  • Would teaching abroad with only an iPad 2 be an okay idea or do I need a computer?

I am moving to student teach abroad in 2 months. My 15" MacBook Pro recently died and I am debating on whether to take just my 16gb iPad 2 with me. Would the iPad have enough processing power to handle all lesson plans, pictures, ect. or do I need to purchase a new computer?

For what you want to do, you need a computer. A lot of students going off to college post the same question, and the users here always say computer.

Signed up for the educators version of photoshop through creative cloud and it says they are waiting for the necessary documentation before I am able to download.  What documentation would that be?

  • Why is South African Educator Discount almost non-existent?

    Hi
I want to upgrade to Adobe Creative Cloud from the Photoshop subscription of $9.99 p.m.
However, since I am in South Africa, paying $49.99 p.m. (excluding 14% value added tax) is not affordable. Since I work at a university, I hoped to make use of the educators discount. Many of my colleagues purchased CS5 & 6 this way and received around 50% discount. Having the ability to install the software on personal computers instead of work computers is a major advantage, because work pcs often don't have enough graphics processing power - that is why we purchase this software for ourselves instead of through our employer, even though we still use it for work.   I also noted that the educators discount in the US and EU is 60% and in New Zealand it is 70%!
Full of hope, I contact Adobe Sales (after having a very strange conversation with a non-English speaking person on Adobe Chat) and a very polite British guy gives me the contact details for a local (South African) reseller, as apparently Adobe does not handle educator discounts for South Africans directly.
So guess how much of a discount I received from the reseller? A measly 19%. When I queried the amount quoted, the reseller told me that the price is provided by Adobe and they cannot change it.
I guess something is better than nothing, but this discount does not come close to placing this product in the affordable range.
My complaint is this: Why is the South African education discount so much worse than other countries? Please Adobe, I would just like a reasonable answer to this. If you tell me it is because of fraud or high taxes or whatever, I will be happy, but please at least provide South Africans with a reason for the differential treatment.
Thanks for your response in advance

    Hi there
I’m sorry to hear that you have been experiencing poor service in the Ramona area! I’d be happy to help! ! I recommend trying our AT&T Mark The Spot app app to capture the location of areas where there is little or no service. This information is then used to locate possible issues and plan future network improvements. We realize you won't be able to report network issues from the app without wireless service but you can mark a place on the map and report the issue when service has been restored or you can use Wi-Fi. Visit the app store for your device manufacturer and download the AT&T Mark the Spot app.

  • Educator's discount - Can I receive even though I'm in South Korea?

Hello!  I'm a university professor in Seoul, South Korea and would like to get the English version of Captivate using the educator's discount.  This educator's version is offered on the U.S. site.  I don't know if they offer a similar discount for Korean educators since the Korean website is (obviously) in Korean, and I don't read Korean.  Is it possible to get the educator discount using the U.S. site?  I cannot use the Korean version of Captivate since I cannot read Korean.
    Thanks!

    Hi DCK12345,
Don't know if you are able to do this, but I would not purchase the software, considering the subscription plan they have available. You can subscribe and always have the latest updates for around 29.99 a month. I do this from Japan, and it works much better than laying out however many hundreds of dollars and having to constantly pay for the upgrades. I think they even have a yearly plan for 20 something dollars a month...even for the educators discount, the subscription likely works out cheaper.

  • Lightroom 4 - Registering Student & Teacher Edition

I need to register and obtain a password for Adobe Photoshop Lightroon 4 - Student Teacher Edition for my step-son (DOB: 23 Nov 1995), however the instructions given with the software are not clear to me about how I should do this.  I have an electronic copy of his Student Card.  Any help with this would be appreciated.

Hi Jim, Thanks for the information about registering Lightroom 4: student edition.  I did eventually manage to work it out myself, however the information provided by Adobe was very confusing. Regards

Packaged with the student/teacher edition is a little yellow card.  On that card there's a web site referred to.  When you go to that website you will be asked to provide certain information to verify that you qualify for the student/teacher edition and discount.  When that is verified you'll be asked to enter the code included with your Lightroom package.  It looks like a standard serial number.  After that number has been verified, along with all of the other information you are asked to provide, you will receive an e-mail with your serial number that you use to activate Lightroom.

  • Discounts for teachers?

I know my wife, who's a teacher, could get discounts of some Microsoft products. Does Adobe do this with teachers, also, with Photoshop, or does Adobe sell at full price for everyone, no matter what they do? Thanks.

  • Are educational discount computers the same as regular computers?

We qualify for the educators discount, and we are ready to order -- but does anyone know if the computer we'd receive with the educator's discount will be the same as a regular purchase? Or are they limited right from the factory, the way computers in schools are?

They are the same. The discount is just that - a discount. You will be receiving the same exact machine as any other consumer.

  • Photoshop CS2 and "Invalid Serial Code" Problem

Well, I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7.
Tonight I tried to install my Adobe Creative Suite CS2 (just the Reader and PS CS2)...
I got the error "The serial code is missing or invalid and Photoshop must exit."
    And it did.
So, I removed it and reinstalled it.
    Same error.
So, I tried the cleaner (that comes in the extract file) that somebody suggested on here.
I've tried various solutions from the knowledge base.
    Still no luck.
I'm grateful I've read that others are having problems with CS3 and CS4....
This will save me money... as I won't be purchasing Adobe products anytime soon.
I won't bother calling tech support. They'll tell me they no longer support CS2 and that they're sorry about that and there's nothing they can do.
    Adobe took my money once.
    It won't happen again.
    Shame on you, Adobe.

    Hi Hunt,
Thank you for the warm welcome.
I believe I've read on these forums (and I could be very wrong) that I heard others with more recent incarnations of Photoshop (eg. CS 4) have also had problems with Windows 7. Again, I could be very mistaken.
Trust me... I really do enjoy Photoshop and I WANT it to work... and perhaps I over-reacted... to think that such an "old" version would work on Windows 7. I guess after spending a few hundred dollars on a photo editing software just a few years ago, I had expectations that it would be useful for me for more than three years. (No sarcasm there... I really did hope that. )
It's good to see that Adobe has loyal customers such as yourself that would (by your own admission) "spend the entire day on hold"... I wish I had that type of time. I simply don't.
There are other photo-editing softwares out there and while I'll be disappointed to go to them... being a teacher, I just can't afford another two or three hundred dollars (and that's WITH the educators' discount) to plop down on Photoshop.
I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my post.
    Respectfully,
    Ted

  • Will CS6 delete my CS5 base program?  Can I revert if necessary?*

I love the CS5e version that I am using now.  I am new(er) to the CS5 line and am just now starting to discover the vast possibilities that it has to offer.  As I am starting to delve deep into all of the command strutures, shortcuts, blending modes and mostly photo correction and editing.  I am excited to see the upgrade of CS6 to include camera RAW 7.  I am also a lightroom user and as LR exports to Photoshop as Raw 7, it has to render in LR first.  With CS6 and RAW 7 this shoudl be a latteral and seamless export.  I am concerend about the cost.  As I just bought the extended version last year of CS 5e, I may not be able to afford the complete upgrade package of CS6 when it is released in June.  Will I be able to revert back to CS5.5 without data loss?  I know my presets will be lost, but those can be loaded via flash file.  Does CS6 overwite CS5 or is it a seperate program such as LR, PS elements, ect?  I am told by Adobe that we can utilitze all of the BETA features of CS6 until the release date and after that will be required to either upgrade or purchase the full version.  I have no idea (nor does anyone) know what the upgrade from CS5e to CS6 will cost.  Will there be a CS 6 extended version such as CS5 and CS5 evtended?

I recently bought LR 4 to enhance my photos with the ACR 7 format.  I can have LR render the photos to CS5 (raw6) and I see no difference.  As I don't really use the 3D feature in CS5 extended, it would not break my heart if I didn't have them in CS6.  I am not sure what other features will be included in the CS6 extended version.  I purchased the Student Teachers edition of CS5 extended last year, so I am hoping that I will be afforded the same opportunity as the general public when upgrading.  I still qualify for the Student/Educators discount but have yet to get any information.  I have asked Adobe and they (customer service) tell me they are not sure yet.  I would think that Adobe would want to support the education community by getting the new software in the hand of the people who teach the future Adobe users how to utilize the program.  One would think that the ACR7 format would be a version upgrade for CS5 to be more compatible with LR4.  I suppose this is why it is still in BETA testing.  From what I can gather, there are to be no additional features added for the anticipated release in June.  I am sure there will be "hotfixes" and bug updates though.  As I use several photo editing suites and composition programs, I just hope that CS6 will be just as compatible with CS5 for saving and converting formats.  With LR4, the DNG format seems to be a universal "RAW" format that works well.  One can only hope that the industry will follow the lead of Adobe and keep pace.
Thank you for your answer.  I am jsut concerned about the final pricing and want to have the capabitility of reverting back to CS5 if the option to purchse CS6 is beyond my means.  I have 1000's of photos stored between the two programs and would be devistated if they were not available if I choose to revert.

  • Investor Relations/ an open Letter to Steve Jobs

    Dear Steve,
I have been a customer of Apple’s since 1987. I have been a post secondary educator of Apple products since the early 90’s, teaching both Apple hardware and software. I’m currently teaching Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack and Garageband to my students. I am also a shareholder in Apple. As you might surmise I’ve been a booster for the company for many years, bestowing the benefits of Apple ownership and use for decades now.
I’ve just had an encounter at your Apple store at International Plaza, Tampa Florida that as a customer frustrates and exasperates me, as an educator worries me and as a shareholder greatly concerns me about the value of my stock.
I recently purchased an Intel duo mini from your Tampa store. Even more recently I decided to upgrade its memory. At your store a couple of days ago I did so. I purchased a 2 gigabyte upgrade for $560. I was glad to be granted an educators discount from the normal price of $600. When I arrived home with my new blazingly fast Mini I proceeded to log on to EBay to sell the old ram from the upgrade. Had I been offered some sort of trade in for the 2 256 Meg chips that had been previously installed I wouldn’t have bothered to do so. After a few seconds of drilling down at EBay I discovered a listing for a new Apple Approved 2 GB memory chip set for $200. If I had seen the ram at $50 or even $100 less I probably wouldn’t have bothered looking further. But, when I saw that I had purchased the ram for 280% more than I could have I proceeded to order the ram from the EBay vendor planning to return the Apple store here in Tampa and have them install the cheaper ram instead. I am fully aware of the trade offs in installing the lower grade chips and at a 280% difference I decided it was worth it.
When I arrived at your store this afternoon I was informed that I could not return the previously purchased memory because it was open box and there was a no return policy on all open box memory. My reply was that I had never touched the memory; it had only been in the hands of an Apple Certified Technician. This circumstance was of no consequence anyone at the store including the manager, Wayne Traina. I asked Mr. Traina to give me the name and number of his supervisor repeatedly but he would not do so.
As a decades long customer and fan I feel I’ve been ripped off and betrayed by a company I’ve given so much allegiance to. As a long time educator of Apple products I feel concerned and hesitant to recommend and train people to use a company’s products if that company might treat them the way they treated me.
As a shareholder I understand the need for margin. One of the reasons I felt comfortable investing in Apple is that you have consistently been able to build margin through innovation. This was not an example of profit through innovation. This was an example of price gouging with the end result being ill will on the street. This is profit at too high a price. You can be sure that continuing this practice will destroy, not build, the value of my shares. I implore you to discontinue this practice immediately. Apple has now become trendy. That’s a fickle market and can and will turn on a dime. If mine is an example of the others are being treated I’ll be selling my stock and telling everyone I know to avoid Apple. Change this policy or get out of the Apple Store business immediately. At this rate you will build more ill will than good.
By the way, it would be nice if you could resolve this matter for me. It would go a long way in restoring the faith of a long time fan.

Macintosh memory is an item to best shop for. There is a huge price difference from across the board concerning Mac memory. Once commited there isn't much that can be done when one wishes their return. Used memory (after a new install) cannot be resold as new in just about all US states that I am aware of. Stores cannot afford to eat their costs these days.
