Telnet servername 25 doesn't work
I have installed OCS2 and everything works fine (email, calendar), now i want to setup smtp. All my services (smtp_in, smtp_out)are running.
My understanding was that i should have "smtp 25" removed from my /etc/services file and then oracle smtp_in would handle the requests to this port.
Does anyone know why i can not telnet to this port 25?
Trying ::1...
telnet: connect to address ::1: Connection refused
Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
OK, I have added smtp 25 again.
ocsmt:/u00/app/oracle/product/midtier9041/bin # netstat -an | grep :25
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:25 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
I am running SUSE linux 8.
The listener is started with this command as root.
/u00/app/oracle/product/midtier9041/bin/tnslsnr listener_es -user 500 -group 500 &
this is in the /u00/app/oracle/product/midtier9041/network/admin dirctory and looks like this. Is this correct, are you also running this as root?

Install Telnet? "pacman -s telnet" doesn't work...
Trying to search to see if telnet is available for install, but doing "pacman -s telnet" as implied in manpage doesn't work, it just thinks its bad syntax.
Also would like to have some information about it before installing (if its possible). As in the BSD-world, its usually very simple to read the info in the ports-tree about the packet to be installed, before you do it.
Here its just "pacman blabla" and hope for the best.
What I'd like to know is if telnet, if it now is available for install, will just install the client and not the server.
Anyway wont be open from the router, but I dont want any telnet server, just the client.
Many thanks for some helpDusty wrote:

Your syntax error is that should be a capital S.
Dusty
Not quite, doing
pacman -S telnet
would return
telnet: not found in sync db
His error is he need to add the capital S (sync) to his lower s (search) as in iphitus' reply.
pacman -Ss telnet -
L2TP on Cisco ASA 5505, just doesn't work??!
This is pretty urgent, client expects me to have this up by lunch today
So, there is this Cisco ASA 5505 ver 8.4.
Most things work but now I want to setup a vpn connection...
I have done this 2 ways, first by using the "VPN Wizard" in ASDM and then 5 hours later removing everything and configuring from cli.
And it just doesn't work, client (WinXP & Win7) gets "error 792" and sometimes "error 789" (both indicating problem with phase 1, I'm pretty sure of that)
Googling on those gives a few suggestions none works.
All I get in the log on Cisco is the "Error processing payload: Payload ID: 1"
Googling on that only comes up with a few pages telling me this message is caused by an error. (Yeah, I could never have guessed...)
For the cli config, I followed this tutorial carefully (3 times actually...)
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/secu...html#wp1117464
I'm using PSK for IPSec, entered same on Cisco and client - checked several times, this is not a password/PSK issue.
Ports opened on Cisco: 500, 1701, 4500
(For a try I opened all ports, no change.)
And here's the "show run":

Sending in Mail doesn't work, Entourage does, Why?
Sending emails in Apple's Mail doesn't work, yet Microsoft Entourage does, Why?
This is the conversation I've been having with my server tech, and they can't find the reason why I can send mail in Microsoft Entourage no problem, yet Apple Mail receives but not able to send any email what so ever..
Very frustrating.

I'm having a heck of a time trying to SEND emails on the SilverSpiritHomeServices.com system.
I'm using a Mac.
I can do it in Microsoft Entourage, yet I can't do it in Mac Mail (this is the program I need to be able to use).
Receiving email it works fine, just sending it only works in Entourage.

Hello,
That definitely seems odd. Since it works fine with Entourage, that would indicate the server is working properly. Additionally, I've tested the SMTP server from here (on a Mac) and am able to connect. I do not have a valid user to send email with, but I can try it if you want to provide me with the one you are trying, temporarily.
As always, if you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Have a great day, and thanks for choosing Rackspace Managed Hosting!

Hello Carl,
In your report, I notice this:
Authentication: None
You need to authenticate before you can send mail so, authentication is a must. To be thorough, I tested both SMTP and POP authentication with the credentials you specified:

Hello Carl,
Your server only supports CRAM-MD5 and PLAIN authentication. You will need to use plain text authentication. I have never configured mac mail so I do not know how to configure this, you may want to speak with someone a apple support if you have trouble.

... 20 moreIt works with web service test of OSB Console. But it's not working from client application (x.x.x.x ip).
It was working before DMZ configuration.
Are there any other configurations required?
BR,
EbaHi Eba,
It's not clear from where you are trying to access OSB. I believe from outside the DMZ.
First step, make sure that Weblogic is listening to your y.y.y.y address, and not only 127.0.0.1
1) Run netstat -na | grep 7001
You should see which IP addresses weblogic bound on port 7001
Hopefully you will se y.y.y.y
Try to connect using telnet from the OSB server itself: telnet y.y.y.y 7001
If that doesn't work, make sure that in the weblogic server config, the listen address is either empty, or it has y.y.y.y (better to leave it empty).
2) If you can connect from the local server to port 7001 using y.y.y.y address, then try to connect from your remote server
If it fails, probably is config issue in the router/firewall

Hi all,
I have run into an issue as the title of this question suggests.
So the senario is, I have (all Virtual):
2x 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Servers
1x 2008 R2 with Session Broker install
I haven't configured any RD settings on the session broker server (i.e. RD virtual desktop, RD Gateway, etc) It's purely setup as the RD Connection Broker
Each of the RD servers I have configured 2 NIC's. The 1st NIC is configured with NLB (NLB only setup for traffic on port 3389 all other traffic isn't handled by NLB). The other NIC is configured to be used only for session reconnection. I'm hoping this is
the right configuration as it's how I have interpreted these guides:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772418%28WS.10%29.aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771300%28WS.10%29.aspx
Please correct me if I have setup the servers incorrectly and what should be differently.
I have setup the NLBs Cluster IP. A rule has been set on the router to make it available externally
This worked fine with an old single RD Server (same IP as NLB Cluster IP, currently offline so no conflict) before the RD Farm was implemented. So I know the port forwarding is OK.
So NLB and Connection Broker Load-Balancing work well for users inside the network. It spreads sessions evenly and there is no problem with DNS resolving the farm name etc. Sessions that are disconnected are reconnected to the same server, etc.
Accessing the TS Farm from the external address isn't so successful
Connectivity is random. Rarely it works, sometimes it gets to "initiating remote connection..." and then disconnects. It doesn't work more times than it does.
So what do I need to do to get this working? Is there another component or something else that I need to configure to get it all working?
I look forward you your help
Thanks,
TrentHi Trent,
If both the RD session broker and the NLB are working fine in
the internal network, I suspect that there is something wrong with the external connection. I’d like to confirm the following questions to narrow down this issue:
1.
Can you PING and telnet this RDS farm name when encountering the “disconnect” issue? For example: telnet farmname
3389.
2.
Can you individually connect to the RDS server when failing to connect it via farm name?
3.
Did you configure any certificate on the RDS server or RD gateway server?
4.
Do you get any event log when this issue happens on the server and client side? If yes, please let me know it word-by-word including the event ID.
Thanks. -
Setting Chart type property of iSPC chart dynamically doesn't work
Hi all,
I am trying to set the chart type property (XBAR, MEDIAN etc..) of iSPC chart dynamically from my html page.
This is the code that I used.
var chart_obj = document.iSPCChart.getChartObject();
chart_obj.setChartType("MEDIAN");
iSPCChart is my Applet name.
But the code doesn't seem to work.
The chart is always of the type that I have set in the iSPC display template.
Can someone help me in this regard?
Thanks a lot.
Regards,
M.SubathraM,
Even though that method shows up in the script assistant and the docs it really doesn't work.
Just swap out the display template for one saved with the desired type:
document.iSPCChart.setDisplayTemplate("Folder/MedianChart");
document.iSPCChart.updateChart(true);
With all of the alarm rules, colors, limits, settings, etc. it is not likely that you will have the same view (display template) that applies to every SPC chart type.
There is also a predelivered example of an SPC Chart that uses an iframe and an irpt to dynamically pass the chart type (along with other settings) you can reference: http://<servername>/Lighthammer/Samples/SPC/Servers.irpt

[solved] SSH doesn't work over PPTP VPN with pptpclient
I just got set up with access to my work's PPTP VPN. Using pptpclient I can establish a connection and ping servers. I can use telnet to confirm ports 22, 80 etc are accessible and I can access web services in my browser, but SSH doesn't work.
When I try and SSH to a server it just hangs for a minute and then "Connection closed by 10.70.11.10". Wondering if SSH was using my default route rather than the appropriate tunnel, I tried setting my default route to use the VPN, and ping, telnet, nmap etc still seem to function and return expected results, but SSH still hangs and closes. There are no entries in the sshd log on the servers that I attempted to get access to. I have both Arch and CentOS servers and I cannot get to either via SSH.
My colleague connected to the VPN on his mobile phone and managed to SSH to a server, so it doesn't seem that the VPN is blocking this... any ideas?
Thanks
[update]
Solved! I found that in /etc/ppp/options, un-commenting -mru fixed this for me:
# Disable MRU [Maximum Receive Unit] negotiation (use default, i.e.
# 1500).
-mru

UNC search doesn't work?
One thing that I have noticed since the Developer Preview is that I am no longer able to type a UNC path into the search bar under the start menu. Doesn't work if I'm going \\servername\sharename\filename.ext and it doesn't work if I go driveletter:\filename.ext.
That isn't just on mapped network locations - that doesn't even work if you want to go to c:\users.
How many people actually go through Windows Explorer to navigate to locations? Not me. This would be a deal breaker for me.
Is there a fix? A hidden option that for some reason is not set by default like EVERY other iteration of Windows? Bueller?Hi,
Based on my test, UNC path really doesn't work in Search Box. Up to now, I doesn't find any solution with this problem, hope it could be fixed in the future.
On the other hand, opening a file which locate on specific local drive through Search Box should be work. Such as when I want to open a test.txt file on C drive through Search Box, when I type C:\test.txt, the txt file could be opened successfully.

WebLogic 8.1 doesn't work on SunOS 5.8
Hello,
I install WebLogic 8.1 on SunOS 5.8, start it.
Looks like it doesn't work.
It doesn't accept requests, doesn't create log file on startup.
Just running as process.
Do you have any suggestions?
We are BEA castomers and going to migrate from version 6.1 to 8.1.
Thanks.

1) As test, to see if first instance really listening on that port.
I run same version of WL8 on same machine on same port
Usually second instance can't start.
But now second instance runs without complains.
It means that port is free and first instance doesn't listening any port.
After startup, first and second instances display same message:
'started as the administration server (without port number).
2)
$ java -version
java version "1.2.2"
Before startup, I set

Looks like WL doesn't read or can't find config.xml and doesn't throwexceptions.

Mini-DVI to S-Video Adapter doesn't work
Hi, I am using the Mini-DVI to S-Video adapter from apple to connect my macbook to the TV. But the only thing I get is a grey flickering picture on my TV. When I click on the monitor-button I can see that my macbook detects only a monitor (but not a TV) in addition to the macbook-LCD-display. I tried all different resolutions, but needless to say it doesn't work.
Can the adapter be broken, or is there a problem with the macbook?
Macbook white 2 GHz Intel Core Duo 1GB RAM Mac OS X (10.4.8)my macbook detects only a monitor (but not a TV) in addition to the macbook-LCD-display
If you connect the Mini-DVI to S-Video adapter, the monitor button on the menubar should show resolutions for Color LCD in one section and NTSC/PAL in the other.
A grey flickering picture is indicative of picking the wrong standard-PAL vs. NTSC. -
DVI to Video adapter doesn´t work! HELP!
I bought a dvi to video adapter (RCA or SVideo) and I already tried on two diferent TVs and none of them worked? What should I do? Does it have a setup to do?
We really need some more details to be able to help with your situation.
Is the adapter an Apple one, or some other brand?
What model TVs do you have? Please be as specific with the model numbers as possible.
When you say it doesn't work, what exactly happens?
And finally: what kind of Mac do you have? You posted in the Mac Mini forum, but your signature says MacBook.
If it is a Mac Mini, did you set it up initially using a regular monitor first? -
I Have a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 macbook pro, I recieved it with OSx 7.2 lion installed, I need to us AHT (apple hardware test) according to the support page that I copy here
Additional Information
Apple Hardware Test is included on the DVDs that are shipped with some Macintosh computers. If the copy on your hard drive becomes unavailable, use the DVDs to run Apple Hardware Test.
For Intel-based Apple computers that shipped with Mac OS X v10.5.4 or earlier, Apple Hardware Test is located on the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 and should be included with your computer.
For Apple computers that shipped with Mac OS X v10.5.5 to 10.6.7, Apple Hardware Test is located on the Applications Install Disc 2 and should be included with your computer.
For some Apple computers that shipped with OS X Lion, if Apple Hardware Test cannot be found on the hard drive, an Internet-based version starts up instead.
This doesn't work as the additional information statement says it should above. Could someone at apple give me an idea of where to get it or what the "REAL" solution is, since it doesn't work on an internet version which was confirmed today at the Genius Bar in the Apple store.
Please help mechrisfrommarion wrote:
Thanks, while it worked on yours it doesn't work on mine, any other ideas?
Are you holding down the "d" key, all by itself, just after the system shuts down for a restart?
And how long did you hold it down?
I held mine down for about 40-50 seconds. Then I lookat at my routers WAN light and it was flickering so I let up on the d key.
If that does not work then maybe there is something wrong with your MBP. Is that the reason you want to run this test, something isn't right with your unit? -
Sorry - I meant to say: 'However when I click on re-open it doesn't work'.
This problem has only occurred within the last week or so, since I have started to run my Mac on Safari OX 10 Yosemite. I wonder if anyone else has had similar problems and can suggest how I rectify it?
I am now using Firefox to get on line but would like to know what has gone wrong with Safari.
Many thanks,
Clare.I cannot use mine at all! I am having to use Firefox as well, i continue to get this and have no idea what to do???
