Template - Multiple Designers
Hello! So I work with multiple designers for a large organization. We work out of Dreamweaver and use templates for most sections of our web site. Because we all update the site, we use a checkout method for pages. (In other words if one person has a page checked out, another person can not work on it) Since we all work on the site, none of us have every current page downloaded ever. Each time we want to work on a page we have to download the newest version (the system works ok for now)
Now, here is the problem: When we want to make changes to a template, it asks if we want to update all the pages connected to the template, even if we say yes, it is not connecting it to the pages on the actual web site, but rather the pages on our desktops. So, my question is, is there a way to upload a template where it is updating the pages on the server and not necessarily the pages on our desktops? The reason being, each of us will have to download the entire site each time we want to make changes to a template, which seems to defeat the purpose of a template.

This won't directly answer your question but it may provide a better workflow if you choose to follow it...
I'm thinking your organization may want to look into using a dedicated source control application like Subversion, Git, or Mecurial. Basically there's a central repository where the source files are located and everyone has a local copy on their machine. Local copies are edited and changed then users submit changes back to the central repository. Somebody will play the head librarian and decide which changes get merged back into the central repository. End users then check out the latest from the repository. Thus multiple people can be working on the same files at the same time, multiple changes to the same page can be compared and merged together and "checked" back into the central repository, and everyone can get the latest files from the central repository. And to top it off, they can do so from remote locations. Distributed Source Control - it's pretty cool and can save a lot of headaches (well other then the sometimes tedius role of being head librarian and comparing multiple commits (submitted changes) to the same file and deciding which ones to keep and officially commit to the central repository - but someones got to do it!).
As to your original question - that's how it works. Dreamweaver is only smart enough to keep track of 1) Who checked out what file, 2) Where Check Ins are supposed to go and 3) The local site files. So editing a template, the changes would only be reflected to the local site files until you check in all the changes.

IDCS3 sharing project among multiple designers
What is the best way, or at least things to look out for, when setting up a project which will be worked on by multiple designers on multiple machines? Thus far we have just been packaging up the project and sending it back and forth,but this has proven pretty messy. Any suggestions?

The new layout-zones add on is incredible. But before you get into that, you should master some of the basics.
The most important part of working in a multi-design workflow is to create a template. This is your document with master pages, styles, etc.
Then, divide the magazine into sections. Front matter would be one section. Each article could be its own section. Classified or other repeating content would be their own sections.
Use the new layout-zone add-on to spin out areas for ads within each section.
Finally, have one person be the control to assemble the finished sections together. This will most likely mean a single magazine as the book feature won't work well in a magazine environment. (Hard to divide articles that continue on back pages into the proper sections of a book.) -
How to manage linked files with multiple designers?
Hi,
I work at a small company with multiple designers (5 of us) where 3 of us work remotely. We use dropbox to manage our files so that everyone has access--we keep client files in specific folders and stock media in a shared folder.
Currently whenever we open a file that's been edited by someone else, we have to go in and individually relink the files. Some would prefer to embed the files, however this can increase filesize by 60-400mb. Our current files total in at around 500gb, so I don't think that's a viable option.
4 of us are on Macs, 1 on Windows. 1 has CS5, 3 have CS6 and one has CC.
My question is this:
If we all have the same path to dropbox (or the same path to the file, either way) will Illustrator be able to automatically find the files?
Eg. X:/Dropbox/...
If so, will it work cross platform?
I know InDesign has a better link management system, is there a good plugin that would help with this?
I'm going to continue to do my own research and testing, but I thought I'd consult those more knowledgeable than me.
Thank you!Thanks for your response. Currently, dropbox works so that it syncs online but also is stored locally on your hard drive (not like a network drive). So one person could have a different path to the dropbox folder than the other. As for the second part, that would be about the same as embedding it in the file as far as general disk space usage. We use many of the same stock photos in multiple files, so keeping them in the same location reduces the amount of space used. It wouldn't be a huge problem if illustrator used relative paths instead of absolute paths, but alas.
I was forgetting that Mac OS doesn't use drive letters, so there probably won't be a way for illustrator to read things as the same path cross-platform...
I'm still wondering if there are any good plug-ins which help find broken links.

Data template multiple selection problem
Hi all,
I have a problem with the Multiple Selection on the BI Publisher using data templates. One of my parameters is called p_application, this parameter is a integer/number and its values come from a list of values.
I'm getting the error "....invalid number". I think the data template is not understanding that this parameter have multiple selection.

Multiple Designers Working on Same Site in DreamWeaver, HELP!
Here are the specifics:
Mac based design team
Three designers using CS4
Three designers using CS2
Designers working on the same website
Website is on a network drive (all working files are on the network drive, no users have website files on their local machines)
Website is hosted on an external server (this is where we upload the files when they are ready to go live, we use DreamWeaver to upload)
Here is the problem:
The site we have is a medium sized site, there are a number of different pages and images in this site.
When we start DreamWeaver, it takes forever.
When we work in DreamWeaver on this site, it takes forever.
There is a significant lag when opening a file or opening a folder within DreamWeaver.
Two key problems:
The number of delays is a problem, it adds up to a lot of wasted time.
Starting up DreamWeaver takes forever.
Other notes:
If the solution works only for the CS4 users, that is okay. Anything solution is better than the current situation. The CS2 users will be upgraded soon enough.
My guess is that our current setup is probably not the best method.
The BIG question:
What would be the best recommended way to have multiple users over a local network work on one website in DreamWeaver that is hosted on an external server?Well, this sounds more like an IT question, but it seems to me if 4 people are all using the same program sitting on your server, it is going to be slow.
I dont think that some designers having CS4 and 2 has any effect, its all HTML/CSS or.... so that should not be a worry. I would think if you purchased more DW licenses for the individual machines it would speed thinks up. They can all fish from the same server for files.

You are quite right... I'm trying to associate each of the text attachments with the proceeding ID.

RTF Template - Multiple Groups, carriage returns/line breaks
Hello - I developed an .RTF Word template with multiple groups. What I want to do is suppress a group heading and the associated new line generated for that group if the group value is blank. I tried IF statements, but I still see extra white lines in my output. Any idea? I also tried putting NO carriage returns in the Word template, and that didn't work.
You can use a filter at the group level to check if the group value is blank..
Something like this example: <?for-each-group:./Listofcity/city[./CityName !=''];CityName?>
Provide information about your data structure/xml if you need the exact syntax.

Dreamweaver CS3: One Template, Multiple Sites
We have about 40 sites with the same basic layout, but it's
always a hassle to update the templates because we have to do it 40
times! Is there any possible way to use the same template for
multiple sites so that updates will be much easier? We are just
using regular HTML pages, nothing in PHP or the like.Trying to apply a template site-wide would be a catastrophe -

R12 Excel Template - Multiple Sheet Error
Hi All,
I am trying to Generate Multiple Sheets (Dynamic) using Excel Template eg. Dept 10, 20, 30, each department have n employees
Output Required
Sheet 1: Summary
10 x employees
20 y employees
30 z employees
Sheet2: Dept 10 with employee details
Sheet3: Dept 20 with employee details
Sheet4: Dept 30 with employee details
I am able to achieve this using Template Viewer by using 2 sheets at design time summary and details(details will be dynamically created for each department) but when I tried to register this template in R12 it generates 6 sheets 2 for 10 dept, 2 for 20 dept and 2 for 30 dept (No Summary Sheet)
It is not referring Column C "Sheet Name" to start from XML META DATA sheet and applying the XDO_SHEET? to both available sheets(Summary & Details).
When I use 1 sheet it is working fine (dept 10, 20, 30.. no summary sheet)

I think you are mistaken...
I am using a contentListTemplate, and in the developer's guide it says to use the templateCategory for multiple-item content presenter templates. When I do what you suggested, my veventsList_CP doesn't work and the ADF default tempalte is used.
I accomplished what I needed to accomplish on the home page by re-writing my veventsList_CP to not use the nested template:

Use a sequence template multiple times in same project
I have created a lower-third animated title and saved it as a sequence as it has sound. What I'm confused about it how I import that sequence and use it multiple times in the same project and change the content of the title for each sequence. If I import the sequence and change the title in one instance, it changes the title of all instances. I would like to use the sequence and be able to change each title. I have even tried copying sequences and renaming them but any editing still seems to affect the parent sequence file.
I know this must be really simple but I'm going round in circles here. Any pointers appreciated.Take a look at this thread:

Web Template Multiple Queries Navigation
Hi,
I've a Web Template with 3 analysis grids, one above the other. Users are frustrated that on navigation for either of the lower 2 the view flicks back to the top of the page.
Is there anyway to stop it doing this?

we faced the same issue which could not been solved so far. Instead we changed our templates. The queries are now displayed on different tabs or are displayed using trays (which are closed by default; all trays can be opened/closed at once using a implemented button).
Perhaps this might be a accepted workaround.

CS4 Data merge: Multiple records One template Multiple docs
I have 112 BCs to data merge, I'd like to import 10 records at a time, into one business card template, and end up with 10 documents. Then I can name them and go on my merry way to the next 10. Is this possible? If I import them all at once I'll have 112 open docs and that's just wrong on a myriad of levels..
Thanks for any help!Take a look at the Data Merge Panel menu for the Content Placement Options, and enable and set the number desired in the Record Limit per Document field.
This makes the assumption that all your BC data is in one source file for the merge. -
Multiple selection of parameter values (BIP 10.1.3.2)

I'm working with BI Publisher 10.1.3.2 and I'd like to use parameters allowing multiple selection. I've tried it with both data templates and SQL queries ... but I'm not getting it work ...
I've established a simple "Show me department name and id"-example according to my parameter selection (you can select multiple values e.g. Administration, Marketing, Sales ... and the "All"-option is activated as well), based on the HR/OE schema.
Here's just a quick note, where I tested the way the Publisher Engine copes with parameter selection in general

multiple selection => e.g. Administration,Marketing

single selection => e.g. Administration
multiple selection => e.g. 'Administration','Marketing'

So, in 10.1.3.2 there's been an improvement concerning single quotes - in the case of multiple selection only. I do not know why there are no single quotes for a single selection, but it seems like that's the way it is ...

Last, I've tried another select statement, based on an entry of the xml publisher forum:

where DEPARTMENT_NAME IN (:myParameter) or :myParameter IS NULL
=> All is working
=> Singe selection is working

So, I couldn't find a way that all three possibilities are working ... and using data templates, multiple selection never worked. If I hardcoded the where clause in the data template,
e.g. where DEPARTMENT_NAME IN ('Administration','Marketing'), it worked fine (no matter, whether I place the sql statement within an CDATA section, or not).
Can anyone tell me, what I'm doing wrong here?
While testing my problem, I figured out that there's a difference of generated parameter output ... I just put the parameter in the select list, and depending on whether you use SQL query or data template, you'll get different results:
SQL statement
=> for each parameter value an own parameter
<_MYPARAMETER>Administration</_MYPARAMETER> in the case of single selection
<_MYPARAMETER8093>Administration</_MYPARAMETER8093>
<_MYPARAMETER8094>Marketing</_MYPARAMETER8094> in the case of multiple selection

Maybe that's the problem? I don't know, this difference how the Publisher Engine copes with parameters just attracted attention to me ...
Alright, I hope it was not too confusing. I would appreciate any help, since here @ the customer's site we need to use data templates inclduing multiple selection in order to establish a context for VPD.
The problems in summary:
- how to write a select statement to include all three possibilites of parameter selection (single selection, multiple selection, All option)
- multiple selection never worked using data templates
