Templates saved as docs freezing Word

Hi, I hope someone can help. I have some word templates, that I open and then save as docs. I do this dozens of times every week but some of them (not all) cause a problem. I can see the file is saved as a doc, but when I try to open it, it says it is opening
a template and it freezes Word. I have to force quit to close it.
Any ideas? Thanks for your help :)

When you a open a document, its attached template opens as well; that way, you get access to key assignments, macros, and Building Blocks stored in the template.
Word will spend some time trying to find the template, which may be what is happening in your situation. If a template has been moved or renamed, or if it is at a network location that is temporarily inaccessible, Word will eventually give up trying to find
it.

  • Pages document saved as doc not readable by word

    Hi all,
Lately I'm having trouble exporting my Pages documents to Microsoft Word format. I've tried the "Export" option directly available in the File menu, as well as the "Save as a copy" option in the Save dialog box. De document is correctly saved as .doc file and Pages can open, read and modify it, but I'm unable to open the exported document in Microsoft Word on my Windows PC. LibreOffice on my Linux PC does open the file, but doesn't show any of the content. Only some strange symbols are shown.
I'm running Mac OSX Mountain Lion with Pages downloaded from the App Store, so everything is up to date.
Does anyone have the same problem or know how to solve it?
    Thanks in advance!

Since it's obviously not a Pages plist issue, I think more drastic measures are called for.
The simplest would be to run the Mountain Lion 10.8.3 combo updater. In systems past, running the combo updater, even if it had been used before, can clear up some system odditites. It may work, but I think the problem is with Pages. Again, the simplest approach would be to delete Pages & reinstall it and run Software Update. I know you should get the most recent version from the Mac App Store, but this has helped others in the past.  The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user. The easist way to delete iWork '09 is to use Yvan Koenig's AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his box.com account in for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
It looks like you haven't got them on iCloud. On your Mac, open Pages and drag the Word documents to the iCloud window

You want Pages, not workstations, and you might want to bookmark Lion and MacBook Pro fora.

  • Pages5:Saving Docs as Word docs?

Pages '09 didn't force you to save your doc in Pages format. You could choose to save it as a Word, or whatever. Now, in the new Pages, it seems you are forced to save your doc in Pages format; you can only obtain a Word copy by exporting the doc after you've saved it, so you end up with two copies - one in Pages, one in .docx. Most of my clients can't open a Pages doc, so now I have two copies of everything unless I want to manually trash the Pages originals. Is there a way to just save any doc you're working on in another format besides Pages, without exporting?

Actually in Pages '09 it was Save a copy as Word:
You created both a .pages document and exported a .doc copy.
Which is a good thing because not keeping a .pages version was bound to lead to trouble because the export is not perfect.
Real if you want to work in .doc, use Word or a Word clone. Even TextEdit will open and save in Word .doc if you don't have complex formatting.
Pages is not a Word substitute if you have to constantly transfer files back and forth.

  • After conversion & saving in my file, word doc is garbled

Why after conversion & saving in my file word doc is garbled?

    Hi mackibee,
How was the PDF created? If it was created by a third-party application (that is, anything other than an Adobe application), then the file may not have the information necessary to ensure a clean conversion. Please see: Will Adobe ExportPDF convert both text and form... | Adobe Community.
You may have better luck if you disable OCR, as this document describes: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (O... | Adobe Community. But that option isn't preferable if the PDF started out as a scanned document, as OCR is necessary to convert image text to editable text.

  • Microsoft for Mac, Word doc freezes when using "command v" to paste

  • Why do Track Changes no longer show up when document is saved as .doc?

I've used iWork for many years to collaborate with people in numerous other organizations who almost all use MS Office and are mostly on Windows. This year, the documents I send them, supposedly saved in Office formats, cause freezes, don't open, and even when they do, don't show Track Changes any more. That makes collaboration on document creation almost impossible. Workarounds? Solutions?
Does anyone know if Apple is going to do a real update to iWork to bring it in line with current MS Office versions? If not, I'm going to have to give up on it and that will take endless work since I'm going to have to create new templates and sample docs from scratch. Anything I convert and import from iWork causes problems and the Open Office/ Libre Office suites don't even accept iWork docs at all. I hate to go back to using Microsoft products.

I was still on Leopard when it started this spring (I suspect it started with updates others did for MS Office). I never used Snow Leopard or Lion on my desktop. Documents sent to collaborators or cllients started not opening or freezing or being Read Only through I had not sent Read Only docs. I hoped the upgrade to iWork that was available once I bought Mountain Lion would help and it did in terms of documents opening but not for editing.
This happens with Pages and Numbers and I'm hearing it from others, and hearing they are also having this problem with Keynote. I'm about to collaborate on a presentation for a third party webinar and suspect it won't be worth developing it in Keynote from what I'm hearing. The problems have by now happened with dozens of collaborators in different organizations, countries, etc., including people with high level tech skills, so it's definitely at my end.
I have tried on another computer (my laptop, which had the problem during Snow Leopard and still does under Mountain Lion). as well as other accounts; that doesn't make a difference.
Throughout I've run whatever the latest iWork version was, but the upgrades have been minimal. It appears Apple plans to let iWork die.

  • InCopy workflow in InDesign: Is there a way to find the document in which an ICML file has NOT been checked IN again before saving the doc?

    The situation:
We are working with the InCopy feature (checking in and checking out ICML files).
    The problem:
I might have saved a document with an ICML file still checked out.
    The question:
Is there a way to find out which document was saved with the ICML file still checked out?
    or in other words:
Is there a way to find the document in which an ICML file has NOT been checked IN again before saving the doc?
    Thanks for any help!

    Hello Sumit Singh,
thank you for your answer and your reasonable recommendation. Unfortunately, this only works when the ICML content is used in one INDD file. In our case, we use ICML content in multiple docs (various manuals with the same safety instructions, warranties, adresses etc.).
So, is there a way to trace back where an ICML has been used?
Is it possible to find out in which document the ICML is still checked out?

  • When I convert my pdf doc to word, the fonts go really weird and it also puts some text into boxes. when I try to select the test and change the font, it does not change it properly?

When I convert my pdf doc to word, the fonts go really weird and it also puts some text into boxes. when I try to select the text and change the font, it does not change it properly? This is making it impossible to amend.

    Hi Janedance1,
If the PDF that you converted already has searchable text, please try disabling OCR as described in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel. (If the PDF was created from a scanned document and doesn't already have searchable text, disabling OCR isn't a great option, as the text won't be searchable/editable in the converted Word doc.)
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Saving html in Netscape 7.2, changes to saved to Safari, MS word 04? HELP!!

I had this on Tiger forum. And maby Safari forum is were I need to get help. This is the diccussion so far.
G4 Power book 1.67 10.4.4, did the same on tower to. I been working with Netsape html. I want to save in Netscape format. I guess that the defalt is changed some how? I thought I would just put Safari in to the trash and that would fix it. No luck it then saved it to MS Word 04. The Netscape is 7.2
I did put the word 04 in the trash and then it would not save it said thir was a errow. Also tried to save it to the netscape folder. It all worked fine several hrs. before, saving work in Netscape?
I need help I don't want to loose my 4 hrs of work.
    response
If you save something out of Netscape, and it is named "whatever.html" then it is saved and the icon it shows will be the one of the program you have assigned to open .html files. So save your file, then do GetInfo on it, go to the Open with and select Netscape. If you want all your .html files to open with Netscape click the Change All button. HTML is HTML, there is no "Netscape format."
Thats just it I save it in Netscape composer program. But it changes it to a safari icon. Thats ok if it didn't change a lot of links targets ancors.
    Darryl
Darryl, the icon is not an inherent part of the file. It is assigned by the Finder based on a number of different criteria, one of them being the application assigned to open that particular extension type. If you assign, or leave the default, of html files to open in Safari, then that is the icon that will show. You can either change the assignment on a file by file basis using the GetInfo function, or, if you wish, you can assign all files with the extension .html to open in a specific program using the GetInfo/Open with/Change all button.
As for changing links, it does no such thing. There's something wrong with your code. The icon is irrelevant. I generally have the default application for .html set to Tex-Edit Plus, so I can edit by a double click on the file, therefor my html files show the Tex-Edit icon. They will still open in a browser if I drag the file onto the browser icon.
The problem is for some reason instead of saving links and the web page its adding local location. They are not saving like they use to. Like my web page needs to be saved as alarm.html how it's saved as the local file like .desk/topfile.alarm.html so I have would have to go into and change all the links, which is what I did only to find that when I go to save, it's changing or adding local file locations again!?
I have ftp several html to my server to see if they will work and when it shows on the server it somehow adds a .bin on the end of the file name and I get an error bessage file cant be found on this server.
I was able to change to netscape in the get info.
    Darryl
Are you using an FTP program and, if so, which one? Or are you using the Netscape Publish function? I'm afraid the problems you are having are with using the programs. Netscape for Mac is a bit elderly--they currently have a version 8 for Windows, but not for Mac. I think most Mac people who liked the old Netscape Communicator are now using Nvu. I haven't fooled around with Netscape in some years, but have tried Nvu, just to see how it worked--I do my coding my hand. The best FTP program for the Mac is probablyTransmit. Many people like the free Cyberduck. Both Nvu and Cyberduck have forums where you can get help.
I am using iner archie for about 7 years to ftp with. And I have no trouble with it.
Some how between the in the brief enouunter with safari it changed coding so when I save its adding smoething that makes the ftp server put bin on the end, after html it adds .bin
I still want to try and stop safari from being the default. It created a huge problem when I had a lot of windows open. And I don't have the time 1 and 1/2 days fooling.
You would think that pasting the page in a new window would solve it but something has got changed. Netscape now wants to ftp it. when it is saved. I have my ftp put several web pages as a test. all end up with bin on the end. And they don't have it here in my folder??????so must be a inbeded?
    Totaly confused Darryl
This all started since the 10.4.4 update.
If it would only give me an option about saving or adding the local file location?
    Darryl

The problem is now resolved. The only thing that I did was to make netscape the default. I always the write code. I think that somehow I must have hit publish, I still am still not sure. Thanks for all the help

  • Why won't my Page Numbers and Footnotes from Swriter (OpenOffice) appear in .doc (MS Word) documents

I have written a book using Swriter (OpenOffice).
I have Footnote descriptions at the bottom of some pages and Page Numbers located at the top and bottom of each page) throughout the book.
I converted it to a .doc (MS Word) document for some people that have MS Word and the Footnote descriptions do not appear at the bottom of the specific page (the actual Footnote Numbers still appear in the specific sentence). Also, the Page Numbers do not appear at the bottom and top of each page.

Sorry, that isn't a Firefox support issue. Try the OpenOffice support forum. <br />

  • How to create rtf template to view report in Word and Excel, with numeric f

    Hi,
    Please help me!
How to create rtf template to view report in Word and Excel, with numeric formatted fields (like this 999 999 999,99 with spaces between numbers) and then end user be able to process those fields with Excel tools (sum, etc).
    Thank you.

From what I have seen Excel can not handle 999 999 999.00. You can use 999999999.00 and then format it as you want in the xls bt you can not have values like 999 999 999.00 coming from publisher output and have functions on the values in Excel

  • Opening Docs in Word Hangs the System

I'm running OSX 10.4.11 (actually, it's OSX Server, but none of the other workstations are affected, so I think we can ignore that for now) on a MacPro 2 x 2.6GHz machine with 4GB of RAM.
Here's the problem. Whenever I open Word (11.3.8) or Excel (11.3.7) and try to open a document (whether by selecting Open from the File menu, clicking on the button in the toolbar, or simply starting the application up from scratch), instead of the lovely Open Dialogue popping up, I get the Spinning Ball of Doom. Then the entire system hangs—I can click on other visible applications and the menu bar changes, but those apps are hung too; I can't access any of the menus, the Dock is inaccessible, and attempting to force quit from the keyboard does nothing. And, of course, because this is the server for our small office network, the entire network comes crashing down.
I've reinstalled Office. I trashed the preference and cache files. I ran Disk Utility and fixed permissions. No go. Help!
Again, I am fairly sure that this has something to do with Office's proprietary Open dialogue box, because I can fire up Word and—if I've done so by double-clicking on a document in the Finder rather then on the application icon—edit and even save. I can open documents in non-MS applications just fine. (And, as I said, I can open and save Office documents on the other computers on the network.) But open a doc in Word or Excel (or, presumably, PowerPoint), and boom—everything comes crashing down.
    Anyone have any ideas???

    I'm still struggling with this.
I can open documents in non-MS applications. (I'm on the affected workstation now, and have just opened docs in Preview, Apple Pages, and GoLive CS.) I can open the MicroSoft Office Project Launcher, so the problem doesn't seem to be that particular application, but when I try to open a document from Word or Excel, the whole system hangs. Which brings down our entire LAN. Which is a big drag.
For now, we use the other workstations for anything that'll involve an Office application. But we would like to use this one as well!
    Again: it's a MacPro 2 x 2.66 Intel with 4GB of RAM running OS X Server 10.4.11.
    Help?
