Terminal error

+Initially I posted this question to the OS X 10.6 topic, but was redirected to this topic. So here my problem:+
A few days ago I tried to manipulate some server files using Terminal commands. Since I don't have any experience in this it obviously went wrong.
I copied the following command from a website and pasted it into the Terminal window:
echo ‘export PATH=/usr/local/mysql/bin:$PATH’ >> ~/.profile echo ‘export MANPATH=/usr/local/mysql/man:$MANPATH’ >> ~/.profile sudo /usr/libexec/makewhatis sudo mkdir /var/mysql sudo ln -s /tmp/mysql.sock /var/mysql/mysql.sock mysqladmin -u root password pwd mysqladmin -u root -p’’ password pwd
Since the terminal didn't work for me, I found another way to finish what I wanted to do.
But since I used the command you see above, the Terminal now states the following every time I open a new Terminal window: -bash: ‘export: command not found
I did several resets, reboots and even a PRAM-reset. But my Terminal keeps on showing the '-bash..' line.
Anyone can help me 'clean' my Terminal?

You ran the example commands too many times.
Now you have multiple repeats, and apparently some of the
commands got munged between the instructions and how
they were exeucted.
I would delete your .profile and if your desired stuff still works
after quiting and restarting the Terminal, then declare victory
and be happy.
rm $HOME/.profile
If the stuff you were trying to do stop working, then go back to
your instructions and perform then only once. I've reformatted
what you actually posted, but I'm not sure if there was any
corruption between the original instructions and what got
posted and formatted in this forum:
# Do these echo commands only once. They will rebuild
# your .profile as it should be constructioned.
echo 'export PATH=/usr/local/mysql/bin:$PATH' >> ~/.profile;
