Terminal Server using NM-16A

Hello,
I was trying to set terminal server using NM-16A module in Cisco 2651XM router but no luck. I did use 2511 in the past without any issue but i don't know if i'm not doing anything wrong with this module as i never set terminal server with this module before. Initially i thought my NM-16A is bad but when i do "sh ver" then router shows 16 Terminal Lines. All i get connection refused by remote host when i try to console other device even after clearing lines. Can anyone please help?
Thanks,

You may want to take a look at this doc:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/interface/configuration/guide/ir_nm16as.html
It has been a while since I have used the async interfaces on a 25xx series device.  I have used the async mod on a 2600 and aside from setting baud rate, parity, etc. I don't recall any special issues.  I have one in my lab now, but apparently I have misplaced my async octopus cables.  Which is a bit disconcerting.
Anyway, hope that helps.
Regards,
Bill

  • Windows 7 Pro 64-bit to be used as a terminal server

    Hello,
I'm looking at using a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit PC as a Terminal Server using an application such, as ThinStuff XP/VS (www.thinstuff.com), to manage the RDP connections.  Based on everything I've read, it looks like there's no Terminal Server CALs available
for purchase through MicroSoft, so is there a need to worry about licensing?  Each PC that connects will have it's own Windows 7 Pro valid license and, of course, the PC to be used is also valid.  Are there any licensing concerns I should have?
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi,
To set up a terminal server, I suggest to set up a windows server system, Since Windows 7 is a client operating system and I do not suggest to use a third part software to modify its roles, especially the role or function related to the license. As for your
license concern, you can refer to the license agreement below Select your product name, version and language:

  • Use batch file to determine if computer is a terminal server

    Hello experts,
I am trying to create a batch file that I can use to install MS Office 2013 and another software on Windows Server 2003 R2,
Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2012 terminal servers (Remote Desktop Services) via GPO. The installation files are NOT
"msi" files.  Can you please tell me how I can use command line in a batch or script file to determine if a machine is a terminal server or not? I tried the Change user /query command on a Windows Server 2008 R2
terminal server and a Windows 7 machine and both machines returned the following status
    Application EXECUTE mode is enabled.
which will be a problem because the installation batch file would treat the Windows 7 machines as a terminal server when it's not really a terminal server.
Basically, I want the batch file to check to determine if the machine is a terminal server. If it is a terminal server, then it would run change user /install, install the software, reboot server, then run change user
/ execute.  Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
For Office 2013 there should not be any concerns since it is windows installer based and things will be handled automatically.  For the other software you could simply put the session in install mode in every case.  For the servers/workstations
where install mode doesn't apply the change user /install and change user /execute will simply fail without any harmful effects.
You may check whether or not the machine is a terminal server using WMI, for example:
wmic /namespace:\\root\CIMV2\TerminalServices PATH Win32_TerminalServiceSetting Get TerminalServerMode
    0 = Remote Administration mode (not a RDSH/TS)
1 = Application Server mode (aka RDSH/Terminal server)
    -TP
When I run the command from the command line, it works, but when I try it in a "IF" statement, nothing happens.  I am I doing something wrong using the wmic code in the IF statement?

  • Terminal server move to another server

    Hello,
I have 2 windows server 2003 standart (terminal server) and I want to move these servers to another Windows server 2008 r2.
how I can migrate user profiles and folders? I look for USMT but usmt does not support windows server 2003. also I checked robocopy, it take error. I need advice. How I can do this goal with min. effort?

    Hi,
The 2003 Terminal Server uses v1 user profile structure. The 2008 R2 Terminal Server uses v2 user profile structure.
Based on my experience, if they are local profiles, there is no out-of-box way to support the automatic migration. You may need to manually migrate the data into the new profile locations.
The following thread is discussing on the similar requirement:
Term Server 2003(32bit) migration to new Term Server 2008(64bit) box
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverTS/thread/73268ddf-82fe-4274-abf5-3539670c7468
If they are roaming profiles, you can try the steps in the article below.
Support guidelines for migrating roaming user profiles data to Windows Vista or to Windows Server 2008

  • Log in to Win2003 Terminal Server with LDAP credentials

I have a Mac network with Xservers running Tiger, LDAP doing all the authentications, and Ibooks (also Tiger) for the users. My users are mobile users if this matters. The Ad department needs to use the latest version of IE (6 or higher) to view certain websites that have active X stuff in them and that obviously is not available natively on Tiger. We have a Windows 2003 server (that is not doing anything yet) that can run Terminal Server for 5 people.
Is there a way I can have my users use the MS Windows Remote Terminal client software to access the terminal server using their same credentials from LDAP? They do not need any home directories or anything else fancy like that, just needs to say the Ad group can get in but the Market group can not. I have tried making the Xserver the primary domain controller (seems to work so far), I just want to do that with out the home directory binding stuff.
Budget keeps me from going to Parallels+XP and I have not found anything that will make Firefox or Safari able to see these types of sites.
    Any hope?

  • Terminal Server Printing with OSX

We have a windows 2003 terminal server.
We have 10 remote powerbook users with OSX.
All the remote users have printers "without" postscript capabilities.
We want to remote access the terminal server, using RDP, and have the ability to print on the local users printers.
How can we achieve this. We can find no support for this anywhere on the web.
    Need urgent assistance.
    Thanks
    shooshine

I'm not quite sure what you and your IT manager tried, so I'll try to restate myself.
If you don't have the ability to install printers "locally" on the server (many users are restricted to installing only "network" printers) then your IT manager should create a new local printer on the server and one of the default "ports" you can select is "Print to File". This is in the same dropdown list that includes LPT, USB, etc. As you continue through the printer configuration wizard you'll be asked to select a printer descirption. A "generic" Postscript description is fine for standard page sizes such as Letter, Legal, etc.
You would then (through RDC) open your document and print, selecting the "print to file" printer. You'll be asked where to save the .ps file. I suggest the Desktop so that it's easier to find.
Then you can open the "My Computer" icon where you'll see the C: drive, D: drive, etc., and (if you've configured your RDC client to share your Mac's local disk) a drive letter assigned to your Mac disk. Copy the .ps file to your Mac's disk, which will copy it to your Mac's hard drive.
The Preview application can open Postscript files and render them on-screen. Once you're this far, it's should be simplay a matter of printing to your locally attached printer or saving the file to a PDF or similar file format out of Preview.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Terminal Server (2008 Standard) stops communicating randomly with printers. Have to reboot TS to temporarily fix issue.

I'm using Windows 2008 Standard, remoteApp feature to run applications at our branch offices (8 locations).   All of our printers are HP laserjet printers (mainly 4015 model).  All are setup as IP printers.  The printers at each branch
are installed locally on the terminal server using the universal PCL5 driver.  A majority of the time all works well.  However, randomly a printer will change it's status to "offline" on the terminal server.
When that happens the printer itself is fine.  Local users can print directly to the printer, and I can access the printer and print to it remotely.
From the terminal server however, it shows that printer as offline.  I can't communicate with that printer from TS or even ping that printer's IP address.  I can ping all other IP's at that branch, just not the one belonging to the printer from
TS.  From any other computer besides the TS I can ping the printer's IP
It's not always the same printer/branch that does this, and there seems to be no pattern to when or where this happens, and I have to reboot the terminal server to get it to talk to that printer again.
Any insight into this or a way to fix it without bringing the terminal server down would be appreciated.

    Hello,
    Thanks for your feedback.
Based on the situation you described, I recommend you to use a typical solution for Windows Server 2008-based Terminal Server and Networking Printing:
Connect the printers to a Printing Server located in domains.
Install the often-used printers on the client sides, using Easy Print enabled drivers on the client sides.
When the client user remotely access the Terminal Server with Printer Redirection enabled, the client printer can be redirected and work seamlessly.
Most of the community members in this forum are using this solution and the result is satisfying. This method allow the users to print with the same printers both
in local and remote sessions. For more information on Easy Print, please refer to:

  • Office 2013 terminal server licensing

We need to install Office 2013 Pro+ on a MS terminal server.  I've been reading around and have determined we need a volume license copy of O2013 and enough licenses for the number of desktops accessing it.  Just a couple of questions...
Does O2013 have to be installed on the client desktop?  If not, how does one install the license without installing O2013?
I have a user on a desktop in the office with O2013 installed and licensed.  This user goes home and connects to the office network/terminal server using their home PC over a VPN.  Do we need 2 licenses for this one user, one for the work PC and
one for the user's home PC?
    Thanks!

This article, and the linked PDF "Licensing brief", should help:
    http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/about-licensing/briefs/remote-desktop-services.aspx
Office does not have to be installed on a client desktop - even if you assign a license to that desktop just for the purpose of entitling Office-via-RDS at that desktop. E.g. if you used thin-clients or Linux instead of "full desktop Windows",
you can't install Office there, but if the device is used for Office-via-RDS, you must assign an Office license to that device.
You don't "install the license" - you assign a license (which is simply keeping records that you have "allocated" a license).

  • Cisco 2811 with NM-16A as Terminal server.

    Hello,
I am currently looking for a Cisco terminal server solution to remotely access through console my private Cisco home lab. I am thinking of buying Cisco 2811 but I struggle to figure out the difference which ASYNC/SYNC MODULE to use. So, my question, is it possible to use NM-16A module with Cisco 2811 or HWIC-16A module must be used? And what is the difference between them?
I found on Cisco website that NM-16A is not supported on Cisco 2811, however some forums stated that it is possible.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/interface/configuration/guide/ir_nm16as.html#wp1027188
    Your help is deeply appreciated.
    Thank you,

    Async is what you need.
    I run this senario several places;
    NAME: "chassis", DESCR: "2801 chassis"
    PID: CISCO2801         ,
NAME: "WIC/VIC/HWIC 1", DESCR: "High Speed Wan Interface card with 16 RS232 async ports(HWIC-16A)"
    PID:                   ,
NAME: "WIC/VIC/HWIC 3", DESCR: "9 Port FE Switch"
The HWIC is called HWIC-16A, but there is also a HWIC-8A
plus one or two CAB-HD8-ASYNC combo-squid-cables (green 1-to-8 with RJ45 plugs)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps5949/ps6182/product_data_sheet0900aecd80274416.html
then you run rotary groups on the async SLIP's, via the cfg.

  • Installing terminal server role on windows server 2012 to use for Windows server 2008 R2 machines.

    Dear
Our current setup is as follows :-
Active Driectory is in Windows Server 2003.
Citrix Xenapp version 5.6 with all Xenapp servers in Windows Server 2003
Now we are upgrading our Citrix farm to 6.5 and all Xen app servers into Windows Server 2008R2.
We did the configuration and testing; everything works fine except the terminal server is not configured which gives the pop always for the expiry date.
We do have license for 2012 terminal server which is not possible to downgrade for some reason and managent need to install new Windows Server 2012 for terminal server and activte the licenses.
    My question is :-
1 Whether Windows Server 2008 R2 will get RDS cal license from Windows Server 2012 terminal server (RDS CAL license is of windows server 2012).
    2. What is the role and features I need to activate in Server 2012 in order to use for Citrix 6.5 (only applicable fetaure for getting the RDS cal license.)
    3. Whether I can add this 2012 server into domain. Is it possible to add 2012 server into Windows Server 2003 AD.
Your early reply is highly appreciated.

    Thanks Jeremy..
I got exactly the right answers I am lookoing for ..
I successfully activated the terminal service on the newly created Windows 2012 Server and installed the retail license pack we had of 50+50+25 keys . It later shows the 125 keys successfully applied.
when I tried to link the Xenapp (Windows Server2008R2) to the license server, it first gives me error that session host service role is not installed on the ternial server. So I installed that role also in the terminal server.
But now its anothee error as below.
RDS Cals are not available for this Remote Desktop Session host server, and licensing Diagnostic has identified licensing problems for the RD session host server.
    1. Is it wrong I did by installing session host server role into the terminal server (but really it gave me error like 'session host server role is not running on the license server' when I tried to link the license server).
    2. Is it the problem that Windows Server 2008 R2 will not get license from 2012 RDS CAL license.
    3. whether Clearing house will take time to update the license.
Your reply is highly appreciated. I need to know whether any other way I can link the Windows Server  2008 R2 Servers (Xenapp) to the license server.

  • Using Cisco Router as terminal server

    Dear Experts,
I would like to use Cisco 2800 Router as terminal server. I use 2T-WIC (Serial) in asynchronous mode, while the remote computer connects to router's port by dial up, using PPP protocol get IP address and access the network. What configuration should be set in router in order to implemented such service. Should any authentication be implemented and if so, what is the right setup?

    Hi
From your explaination, I assume that you want the router to be a dial-in access server for your HARDDISK client (not diskless).
    username cisco password cisco
    int e0
    ip add
    interface Serial 0
    physical-layer async
    ip unnumbered Ethernet 0
    async mode dedicated
    dialer rotary-group 1
    interface Dialer 1
    ip unnumbered Ethernet 0
    encapsulation ppp
    dialer in-band
    dialer-group 1
    ppp authentication chap
peer default ip address pool test
    ip local pool test
    line 1
    exec
    autoselect ppp
    autoselect during-login
    login local
    modem InOut
    transport input all
    stopbits 1
    speed 38400
    flowcontrol hardware
    Hope that will help.
    Pls rate helpful posts.

  • After using WMIquery to listen Creation/Deletion of one process makes CPU usage to 100 % at remote terminal server

    Hi there ,
I am new to the WMI and stuck with max CPU usage .
    I have to open my plugin(MakeyourVoice.exe )
as MyAPP.exe process starts by a windows user. For hearing
the start of MyAPP.exe in processes space ,I have created the WMIquery in watcher.exe and query
     used as
    scope =
    new ManagementScope(String.Format("\\\\{0}\\root\\CIMV2", “localhost”),
    null);
    scope.Connect();
    wmiStartQuery =
    new
    WqlEventQuery("__InstanceOperationEvent",
    new TimeSpan(0, 0, 1),
    "TargetInstance ISA \"Win32_Process\" AND TargetInstance.Name=\"MyAPP.exe\" ");
    ManagementEventWatcher StartWatcher =
    new ManagementEventWatcher(scope, wmiStartQuery);
// register for WMI event within the scop
     StartWatcher.EventArrived +=
    this.WmiEventHandler;
     // Start Watcher
     StartWatcher.Start();
Now the problem is if I run my watcher process in Remote Terminal Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard)  with 5-6
number of users logged in the CPU usage shoot up to 100 %.Due to this users  cannot do any activity on system.
Could you please suggest how can I solve this issue, so that users can use my plugin?
    Thanks in advance..
