Terrible repair outcome at Menlyn IStore, Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa

Good Day,
My fiancée and I are extremely disappointed and are trusting in you to please assist us in resolving this rather unfortunate situation. We sent in a set of earphones for repair at the Menlyn Shopping Mall IStore branch in South Africa, Gauteng, Pretoria, the repair has taken almost 12 months to resolve and finally with a terrible outcome...
1.The Menlyn IStore discarded/scrapped my property without my consent.
2.The Menlyn iStore's communication was extremely poor re the questions I required answering.
3.The Menlyn IStore are trying to resolve their mistakes by offering my a R300 voucher!?
My set of earphones cost me R799 so it's only fair I get reimbursed the same.
Your assistance will be much appreciated.
Kind Regards
Mark McDonald &
Shannon Welsford

    Hi ...
    Afraid not ...
Your credit or debit card credentials must be associated with the same country where you reside.
"Although you can browse the iTunes Store in any country without being signed in, you can only purchase content from the iTunes Store for your own country. This is enforced via the billing address associated with your credit card or other payment method that you use with the iTunes Store, rather than your actual geographic location."

  • South Africa repairs and Service non Existenent

I got an iphone as a gift from my mother. i stay in south africa and my parents in China. The phone has been giving problems as it turns off all the time even with full battery. The only time it does not turn off is when it is plugged in to charge. I went to the istore in south africa (menlyn, pretoria) and they without even looking at the phone said they wont help me as the phone was not purchased in south africa. According to me apple is such a global brand that it should not matter where the phone was bought. Wo can i now contact regarding the phone?

No. Apple does not repair iPhones, they replace them, and service centers cannot stock iPhones in all models for all the many different carriers in the different counties. That's why service is restricted to the country in which the iPhone is originally sold. If you can't send the iPhone back to China, you'll have to go the third-party route. Note that having your iPhone serviced by any authorized shop will void any further support from Apple, even if you were to send the iPhone back to China. Just FYI so you're aware.
    Regards.

  • 3 Month Repair Wait Time in South Africa

The mind totally boggles how RIM can sell South African customers a phone that has a standard three month repair wait time. Apparently, there are no repair facilities in South Africa and the phones must be shipped overseas for repair. What are you doing selling phones in our country without the proper facilities? You are creating an extremely bad reputation amoungst high end South African consumers. Either remove the phones from the market entirely or investment in the proper repair facilities.

RIM does not sell phones in South Africa, your carrier does.
You are not being reasonable to think a manufacturer like RIM must have a repair facility in each country in which its devices are sold, as RIM is in over 150 nations. Do the math.

  • ITunes forgets my CD files...how do I rebuild tune database? - Revisited

    Hi:
    I tried follwoing your advice.
I can do the Ctrl-A to select all songs in the iTunes libary.
I can right-click and select Delete,
but when I do, I do not get the 3 options that you mentioned
(Cancel, Keep Files, and Move To Recycle Bin)
I get a dialog box stating:
Are you sure you want to remove the selcted songs from your iTunes library?
These songs will also be remove from any iPod or iPhone which synchronizes with your iTunes library.
Why am I not getting the options you stated above ?
I have seen you oprions on a Mac at best Buy, but I am running an HP laptop under Vista Home Premium.
Then has a Remove or Cancel button to be clicked.
If I follow through with the above, will it wipe out my music library ?
How do I go about rebuilding the databse ?
    Thank you

Sorry DaleB, I have redone my library so many times, I forgot about this prompt. Just click 'yes'/'remove' to that question.
Reloading the library will only make your iPod resync again, thats all.

    Hi:
    A related issue.
I made a copy (backup ?) of the Music folder in Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS, to my Desktop. If something corrupts the Music in iTunes, will this be a "good enough" backup to be able to restore the music by moving it back into the Music folder, or will soemthing be missing ?
    Thanx !

    Hi:
I did not move them arounsd outsice of iTunes.
I copied & pasetd them in iTunes, but in some cases, they became subfolders.
e.g., I may have a main folder in iTunes called "Rolling Stones", and subfolder iteled after their Greatest Hits album "Hot Rocks". Initially,
Hot Rocks was a folder at the same level as Rolling Stones. Thenm I create a subfolder within Rollng Stones and then copied and pasted all of the MP3 files from the main folder (Hot Rocks) into the subfolder (Hot Rocks), and then deleted the main folder (Hot Rocks). But, iTunes now tells me it can find the songs. The Apple guy at best Buy showed me how to delete the current database without deleting the actual tunes, and then rebuild the database, all in a few mouse clicks. But, this was on a Mac...I do not know if iTunes for Windows has the same menu features as the Mac version. I just forgot the steps that he went through.

What is it you want to do? If you want to clear your library and start it over with the same media files already on your computer, the way you are doing it is both more work and dangerous (you could lose files accidentally if you hit the wrong button).
Assuming you backed up your library elsewhere, you will have an "iTunes Music.itl" file, or at least you do with XP. I am not sure if Vista works any differently. This is the file that is the database file that contains all the info about what is in your library, playcounts, ratings, etc. If you don't have that backed up somewhere else with your library, you should do that. If you periodically back up just that file, you can rebuild your library assuming the media files are not lost.
So to clear our your current library, simply grab the iTunes Music.itl file in your iTunes folder and drag it to the desktop or the trash. Open iTunes and you should now see a blank library. Close iTunes, you will find a new iTunes Music.itl file has been created (representing the new blank library. To restore your old .tl file, simply drag your back up copy and overwrite the newly created blank library iTunes Music.itl file. That's it.
Alternatively, you can File -> Import the .xml file that is also created and maintained by iTunes in the same folder as the iTunes Music.itl file. But Apple does state the XML file doesn't quite have everything contained in the iTunes Music.itl file, although it isn't clear what exactly is missing, at least not to me.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • HT203254 Hi, my machine started GreyScreen in march, 4 months after warranty, it continued till iStore send me to CoreGroup here in SouthAfrica, the technician said must run updates but he later said that it's my logikboard, pls assist, do I have to pay?

Hi. I bought my macbook pro in November 2011 at Incredible Connections in Johannesburg, South Africa, by 2013 march it had already started mulfunctioning, a grey screen had started showing up at startup, it started off with freezing while i was using it and at reboot the grey screen would show up and i couldn't continue working any furthure. I then took it to the istore whom were able to assist me at first and second.
It continued greying out and i was then send to the Core Group, the Apple technicians in Johannesburg. I was informed to come back within 48hours, I Called inthe 3rd day and i was told that the machine is undergoing physical tests, on the 4th day I went and my machine was given back to me, i was told that the machine is fine and I just need to run updates, but when I switched it on the grey screen persisted, it's almost as though the machine was never tested because the technician said he called me for passwords but he couldn't get hold of me, but the passwords were written on the job ticket, the ladies working there even showed him where I had written it.
I then asked him to double check the machine and before any sort of thourough inspection, he said the problem is the logik board, he went to the back of the ofice for 20 minutes, came back and said yes, it is the logik board, I then gave him my other machine to use the hardrive to check whether it responds or not, he said it doesn't respond and hence left the hardrive from the faulty machine in the working machine so I may access the data.
I was then given a quote that cost 1 third of the price I paid when I bought the machine. I use the machine for work and I really can't afford to pay so much money for a machine I literally owened for 1 and half a year, it is practically new and when I bought it knowing that it is quality and it will outlive any other machine inthe market. I am a huge fan of Apple Computers and have been for over 10years but I am dissappointed, I am disappointed because no one hears us out, a great product has been created and there is no other product inthe market that can match the kind of convenience that Apple has created but now it is starting to function away from it's core promise. We promised people something different inthe market but we are becoming more and more like these other brands, only more expensive.
I mean I saw all those posts about these faulty logik boards and even saw the class action filed against for defective logik boards but right now we are asking you guys to hear us out and point us to the right direction. We really enjoy your products and would like to continue so, but you are losing us. Please assist somehow. Hoping to hear from Apple About this issue, thank you.

Note that if you are sharing the same AppleID when you activated iMessage the very first time, then you are literally sharing the same iMessage account.  The primary account ID for iMessage is the AppleID used to verify the service the first time - then it associates phone numbers and email addresses as aliases to that account.
One of you needs to create a new AppleID and use it JUST for iMessage, so you each have a separate and unique iMessage account to use.  So you can continue to share an AppleID for iTunes and iCloud and all your purchased content, just use different AppleIDs for iMessage.
If you need another email for AppleIDs (an AppleID is literally just an email address) just grab a gmail account to use.  In iMessage, tap on the AppleID and log off, then log back in with the new AppleID and it will activate a new iMessage account using that AppleID.

  • Macbook Pro Logic board failure

    Hi,
On 07 July 2013 I bought a new Macbook Pro from a local iStore. about 1 year later, the monitor failed with a black screen and I submitted the unit for repairs, as it was still under warrantee. The Apple Core Group noted that they had replaced the screen and the main logic board as this was the issue. On receiving the unit back, I noticed that the built-in microphone does not function. This was not a problem for me at the time as I never used the microphone and left it. Fast forward another year and a half, I now have a bigger need for the microphone to function for conference calls etc. About two and a half weeks ago I submitted the unit in for repairs at the same iStore, which was sent away again to the Core Group who deals with repairs on Apple products.
With communications in the past two weeks, they have claimed that the unit does not want to boot up anymore while running diagnostics and eventually told me that the main logic board has failed, and thus the reason it is not working anymore. Today the Core Group sent me a quote of R9200 (+- $750) since my unit is out of warrantee.
This doesnt sound like a valid reason and what am I supposed to do in this case? Am I responsible for dishing out $750 since I left the Macbook in fully working order when I handed it in to Apple Support? Why would the main logic board fail again after it was replaced about a year and a half ago.
    Any advice is much appreciated.

There are no widespread hardware failures endemic to that model. Lacking any indication to the contrary, the repair facility itself begins to look suspicious. Of course I'm biased since all I have is the information you provided.
... the boot failed while running diagnostics
Obviously it means nothing in the end, but it is commonly accepted that when a repair facility accepts an item for repair, the item remains in their care from that moment until you accept it from them, after which it is returned to your care. The fact it failed while in their care does not appear to be in dispute. You have no way of determining how that occurred, nor should it be your responsibility to determine it. They could have dunked it in water for all you know. How is that your responsibility?
How do you prove that in any case?
Recording the logic board's serial number and comparing it to the one returned to you is one way to ensure it hasn't been swapped with a defective one, but even that can be circumvented if the repair facility is motivated enough to modify it. Anyway, my sympathies are all I can offer.
