Hi,
The TS is a hidden property of the Step.
You can unhid this property by a setting in the Station Options select the Preference Tab.
You actually dont need to enable this setting, you could of just typed it in (, the .TS.id I mean). But when learning it is handy to see all the properties.

  • Using TestStand API Engine to programatically set watch expressions?

I would like to auto populate the Watch Expression window when I start a sequence. This would allow the test developer to set up a list of variables once and have them available all the time, for troubleshooting. I see references in Test Stand help to insert, remove, clear, etc, but I haven't been able to figure out how to access them. Getwatchexpressions is all I can find, so far. I have looked in TS 3.5 and 4.

That was the hint that I needed. I am attaching a simple sequence that populates a watch expression. May be useful for others.

  • Watch Expression Settings error

If I have a parameter declared as a number and I pass an array element to it, by reference, I have problems trying to watch the parameter value.
If I double click on the glasses in the 'Watch Expression' window the 'Watch Expression Settings' dialog pops up. If I click on the Expression control and try to expand the Parameters value, TestStand fails with the following error...
    Expected container, found number
Error code -17308. specified value does not have the expected type
    Source 'TSAPI'
If I manually type into the watch expression field it's O.K.
    (This is with TestStand 3.5)

    Hi,
yep - I get exactly the same issue and we had the issue in TestStand 2.x too before but fixed it in 3.1.
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=330&message.id=5107&requireLogin=False
This was reported to R&D (# CAR ID 46J4EOW3) for further investigation. Unfortunately the only workaround is to type it in manually, or to go to the context tab when you're on the breakpoint and right click it, select "copy property path" and paste that into the watch expression box instead.

  • Flex development - Debugging - watched expressions & variables

    Hello to all!
I use Flash Builder 4 Standard as Eclipse Plugin. I can debug and see the variables and the watched expressions.
Now I am using a different library and I have a variable which has many attributes, inherited attributes, ...
Is it possible to search the whole variable for a string, so I can easily find the attribute which I need?
With right-click "find" I can only search for the name of the attributes and only in the first depth. I need a search for all depths and on the values.
Is this possible? Or what can I do instead of going through the whole listing?
    Best Regards PHANTOMIAS

  • Break on change in watch expression

    Hello,
is there a reason why one cannot set the check mark 'break on change' from the very beginning but only if the program is running (requiring an additional breakpoint)?
My scenario: I have added a watch expression for a variable by clicking on the variable in the source code window and subsequently Ctrl+F7. In the watch window, the variable name is shown, but in the field 'Break on Change' no checkmark is shown. Hence I need to add a breakpoint at the first line of main () just to set this checkmark...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Wolfgang,
In 2013 the "Break On Change" behavour was changed.
You can read detalied information in Release Notes, section Watch Window.
Break on Change is available only for watchpoint that represent the contents of a memory adress(LHS expression). If you are not debugging the watchpoint can't be evaluated, the debugger doesn't know the memory adress of that expression.

  • Where can I add a watch expression in Safari 5.2b4's Web Inspector?

Interesting. That is available from the free Safari developer program. Is that under NDA or not?
Regardless, it might be better to ask in the official Safari developer forums for any beta software. I don't know the answer.

  • Debug Watch Panel in AS3 projects?

Is it just me, or does it not make sense that only ActionScript projects <= 2.0 get a proper "Watch" panel in which to specify watched expressions during ActionScript debugging? Seems to me that it should have been a natural assumtion we'd get something like this in Flash projects done in AS 3.0 by now. Does anyone on the forums know why this has yet to be implemented? Flash Builder has had this from the get-go, but I understand that this may likely be because that toolset is very developer-heavy and Flash CSx Professional is more of a designer-animation toolset.
But still, does anyone else find it annoying for large complex Flash projects done in CSx requires you to twirl down the list of ALL the variables and then all the nested variables in complex AS 3.0 objects just to find the one thing you are interested in seeing? Then having to do it all over again once you step over your breakpoints and try to observe changes to variables? This is frustrating to the max! I've made a request via the features wishlist so hopefully this will get implemented in some version.
    Sorry, just venting.

Thanks for responding positively to this idea. I'm sure hard-core coders will appreciate having this as a time-saving measure to the AS3 development process in Flash Pro.

  • Is there a way to disable all vi front panels in Teststand?

I don't want any vi front panels to appear while my Testand program is running. My application uses a lot of vi's and I'm trying to avoid having to reset the front panel properties for each one. Is there a single option somewhere in Teststand to do this?
    Thanks.

    Hi kevmi2ca,
One could uncheck the Show VI Front Panel When Called box in TestStand for each VI call, if it were checked.  There is no other control in TestStand to modify the Front Panel behavior of all VI calls.
This would be a great product suggestion to make at http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/nicc.call_me.

  • Flash debugger needs an expression-watch window

    Hi.
I would like to propose in next update of (CS4 or CS5 - if it hasn't yet implemented) to add an expression-watch window.
I want to use Debugger to find a bug, inside a movieclip, that has dynamic created other movieclips and I want to check some variables. Utilizing the debbuger as is now, for this case, is almost useless - I use trace() instead.
    I.e.
    var ny = mmask.y-DCs[Cur].y;
I want to see the value of DCs[Cur].y.
In order to see this, in current debugger, I have to:
    1. Check "Cur" variable. I.e. Cur == 5.
    2. Open Object "this" and find the DCs
    3. Open Object DCs[5], and search for y.
It's total timewaste... ...a "trace(DCs[Cur].y);" command is faster - and repeatable in any re-run!...
I never used the Flash CS3/CS4 debugger, because of the lack of such a feature. I don't know if it exist - if it is, please inform me on how to do it.
Add a "watch" variables window, that will allow expression that will refresh them.
It would be excellent - for debugging - instead of using "trace()" to dynamically check code and expressions, to add the "trace" string, into a window of the debbuger, and it to be validate automatically in each refresh (every step/forced refresh).
Thus instead of using trace() here and there in my code, with identifiers in the string, to know where the trace is refering, I would use the trace strings in that expression-watch window - organized in tabs (groups).
It would be great, if we could use and multiple tabs - to set groups of watch-expressions. (I.e. in C++, MSVC 6, had 5 tabs for such reason - and you could add more (and name them)). It also would be great, if those tabs and their watch-expression, could be saved into the file, during saving - thus then to restore them as is, during .fla loading.
I am hoping in CS5 to have add that feature.
That would be a great power for Flash Debugger (replacing trace() with Debugger UI tracing window -> expressions-watch window!), and it would be a really good reason to use it - and/or buy Flash (instead of free applications) for that professional reason.
Btw, also please add the feature to saving the Actionscript Tabs into the .fla file!... It's annoying thing, everytime i am reloading a .fla file, to have to re -set the Actionscripts tabs, in order to continue my work!...
Ps. If this message, is not going to be seen from developers of Flash, please tell me where to add the aboves suggestions for future updates of Adobe Flash - or add them, yourselves!

  • Flex Debugger - watching an expression continuously

    Hi all,
Just a quick question about the Flex debugger (version 3).
I have an AS class and I want to monitor a value continuously as the movie is playing. For instance, I might want to watch 'somebutton.x' or 'somebutton.width' - I don't want to use breakpoints because obviuosly every breakpoint stops the animation, and these values change on a window resize - so more or less every frame.
How do I add a watch expression without putting in a breakpoint - the one's I've put in so far remain blank unless I add a breakpoint!
    Many thanks
    Kevin

you could always trace() the value instead.

  • Expression Evaluation

    Studio 12, SPARC Solaris 9
There is an article in the IDE Help titled "Evaluating an Expression" and says:
    To evaluate an expression:
    1. Start a debugging session.
    2. Choose Run > Evaluate Expression (Ctrl-F9) from the main window.
    3. Type the expression in the Expression drop-down and click Evaluate. The result is shown in the Results window.
I can't find this menu item nor ctrl-F9 works. Do I have to configure something or is this feature not implemented?
What other possibilities are there for avaluating an expression?

If I understand you right, you need smth like this:
    watch arr[10..40]
where arr is array of structures, right?
If range of indices and/or size of structure is too large, you can supply -L parameter to watch (or print, or display) commands. It looks like this option is not accessible from the GUI, but you can type watch command directly in the dbx console. For example, this worked for me:
    (dbx) watch -L array[20..50]
Note that this will slow down the debugger so use with caution.
I didn't understand why you have to re-create new watch each time. Is it because watched expression is re-parsed every time the app stops on an event of interest? In this case, you can use 'display' command (again, no GUI support, you need to type it in and then the expression appears in Watches tab).
