I need to add a paragraph to a flash file. How can I make a
word in the text field paragraph link to a separate frame in the
time line? thanks

If there is a method for applying timeline commands to words
in static text, I don't think it would be any less time consuming
than using invisible buttons over the words, possibly moreso since
you have to code for each word anyways. AS3 does make button event
coding a bit more time consuming though.
AS1/AS2 would make it alot quicker to do this because you can
simply copy (or reuse) a button and resize it for the word and just
change the frame number or function call for the code attached to
the button.

Loading images into text field - links problem

Hello,
I use AS3 and I load external text from XML to the text field created manually. External text includes hyperlinks and <img> tags. The problem is if I load more than 1 image this way , my links no longer work. They work if I load only 1 image...
Text field is multiline, wraps the text, got embedded font and autoSize is set to "left"...
I could not find any solution to this, is there any?!

Multiple Column text field in Static PDF form

Okay, I'm pulling my hair out here. I am filling a .pdf form with itextsharp using powershell scripts. All this part of the issue is working fine.
My problem is that I have the following data:

I have the data sorted before I populate, so they go in numerical order, and i would like the be able to read them from top to bottom, left to right.
I just can't figure out how to either:
a) add multiple columns like I add multiple lines inside a text field
or
b) have multiple text fields linked together to thread the text input from fieldA to fieldB
Any help would be much appreciated.

Is there a way to link text fields, so when you reach the end of one line it moves to the next?

I often use Acrobat Pro to create forms, whether it be from an existing document or from scratch, and this has always irritated me. I know you can create a text field and select the Multi-line option; however, this is not what I am looking to do. I have a form that has a Yes or No Radio Button, then below it says "If yes, please explain:" followed by 3 lines to respond. When I run it through the Form Creator, it places three text fields on the response lines - as it should. The first line is shorter because of the text, which is why I cannot use the Multi-line option. So is there a way to link these three text fields, so that when I reach the end of the first line it stops and automatically moves to the next?

These types of lines are a left-over from printed forms. There's no reason
to keep using them if your form is digital.
The best approach is to combine the fields to a single multiline field, and
get rid of the first line. Trying to link text fields together is very
tricky. I haven't yet to see it done properly.

Is there a way to link text fields in an interactive form in ID CS6?

I'm recreating a form where they had several text fields on top of each other. If the form were not interactive, that would be so the user could use it to fill out longer, more detailed responses to the questions.
But since it's supposed to be interactive, I question the need for this, unless I could link them somehow, so that a user's long answer would flow from one field to the next as needed.
Is there a way to do that? Or would it work better to combine the 3 text fields into one big text field?
If the latter, is there a way to change a text field back into a text or picture box? I can't seem to find that option.

You cannot link PDF fields to each other.
Make a text field Multiline and Scrollable to allow for extra input (in Acrobat, but not in InDesign, you can also set a limit on the number of characters).
As I said elsewhere, choose Object > Interactive > Convert to Object to change a field to a regular object.

Linking a radio button to a text field in a pdf form

Forgive my ignorance but does anyone know how to link a radio button to a text field in an Acobat pdf form?
I have a series of 4 radio buttons. If you click on one of them I would like to activate a text field which you then have to fill in. In addition it would be good to have it so that if you don't click on the radio button you're not able to fill in the associated text box.
I am a designer not a programmer so I don't know much about javascript. Can anyone help?

Linking a select field with a text field in a DW form.....

I did try to search for this but nothing came to my attention. Apologies if it is already in the forum.
Is it possible to have a "select field" link with a "text field"? In other words The select field will provide different venues to choose from, in this case "Blog, Trade Show, Friend, Photo Magazine" and then after the choice is made a text field appears that allows you to provide details re. your choice. For example if you choose "Trade Show" from the select field the text field will then appear and prompt you to detail WHICH Trade Show. Something along those lines. Any assistance will, as always, be appreciated.

Linking two text fields together.

I need to link to text fields together as if it were in word or notepad, you simply hit enter to go to the next line at the end of the text field.
Is it possible?

Set the first field to Limit Length to Visible Area and on the full event place this script:
xfa.host.setFocus(Field2Name);
where Field2Name is the name of the field you want the cursor to appear in after the first field is filled up. The user won't need to hit enter, the cursor will just move to the second field when the first one is full.

HTML links won't display in Dynamic Text Field

I am loading external text files in dynamic text fields on my
webage. These texts contain html links (<a href="page.html"
target="_blank">Click Here</a> and I have "render as HTML"
on and "selectable" off in my dynamic text field. Also, I am
loading a CSS file. Not only do I not have a hand cursor, but I do
not even have any of the text from that piece of html code down.
What is going on with this? Please respond asap, as I have been
struggling with this for a day now. Here is the Actionscript for

The error is here:
zloc_txt.text = this.content;
Even if you rendered the textfield as HTML, you still need to
tell flash that the variable you are inserting is HTML. Therefore
you need to use the htmlText property.
zloc_txt.htmlText = this.content;

How to LINK two or more Text Field

I have already asked once to get help with creating a link between two text fields (two fields created with a text tool) so that when text reached the end of one text field it will simply go into another. The given explanation was not specific enough. If you know how to do this and are willing to help, would you PLEASE give me SPECIFIC instructions, step-by-step on how this is done. Please do not assume that I have worked with the Adobe Acrobat program all my life. Thanks :)

It's almost laughable that I should give instructions since I know very little about JavaScript, but here goes . . .
Be sure to follow George's instruction precisely. Make three text fields, which I'll call Text1, Text2, and Text 3.
1) For the first text field, in the Options tab, remove Multi-line and remove Scroll long text. In the Format tab, in Custom Keystroke Script, click the Edit button, and enter the following:

2) For the second text field, in the Options tab, remove Multi-line and remove Scroll long text. In the Format tab, in Custom Keystroke Script, click the Edit button, and enter the following:

Click the Hand tool and start entering text in the first text field. When you run out of space in the first text field it should flow to the second text field and then to the third.
As noted in my previous message of October 7, 8:05, there are some very severe limitations to this technique which I've not been able to overcome. I was hoping that George might have a suggestion to offer about the limitations, but since we haven't heard from him, maybe there are no workarounds for the limitations.

Link dropdown choice to multiple text fields from access database

Is there anyway to link the choice of a dropdown field so it populates other text fields?
Example:
I have created a Data Connection from a MS Access Database for a drop down list which is CompanyName. When I choose the company name I would like it to populate First Name, Last Name, Email, Adress, etc. Does this require a significant amount of code to do...and if so does anyone have a good book suggestion to learn the code for something like this?
Any help in solving this problem is greatly appreciate. I have searched everywhere and found no conclusive answer. Or maybe I am just searching in the wrong place? Thanks for your help.

You will have to make another data connection and create a SQL call to the DB that will incorporate the selection made in the DDList. This will involve code. There is a sample wriiten by Stefan Cameron at this location:

Linking a class to a dynamic text field to load XML data.

I'm quite new to ActionScript and would be grateful for any help here.
I want to load text into a dynamic text field (called 'about_tab') using a class depending on the language selected (by clicking on a flag icon) by the user.
I managed to get this to work when the ActionScript was written directly in the timeline, but am having problems with doing the same thing via a class.

Here's one of my XML files (the other is the same except "About" is written in German):

When I run it, it returns my trace statements that the class ChangeLang and the function xmlLoaded are running, but no text appears in the dynamic text field (I should/want to see the word 'About'). I get this error message:
1120: Access of undefined property about_tab
The problem, I'm guessing, is in the part in red in my code. I think I need to target the text field in the display list by creating a reference to it. If so, could someonw point out how I do this, or perhaps a tutorial that would help. I've tried adding the word stage (i.e.,stage.about_tab.text = substance.about_lbl; ) but it still doesn't connect. I guess there's something really simple I'm missing, so I apologize if this comes across as a stupid question

I'm also new to AS3 and I've just started using external classes and I think I know what you should do to put your code to work.
Instead of using the text field you created inside your flash file, why don't you use the "TextField" class to create an instance of this object? It's the exact same thing as when you create and instantiate a new text field inside Flash.
First, import flash.text.*; (includes classes like TextField, TextFieldAutoSize, TextFormat, TextFormatAlign, etc)
Than you just have to create a var like
public var about_tab : TextField;
or
public var about_tab : TextField = new TextField();
then, to adjust the properties of this tab you use dotsyntax as if it where on your stage like:
about_tab.x = 50; about_tab.alpha = .5; etc...
you can even create a function to "config your textField"

 about_tab = new TextField(); //you only need this line if you

How to display links in a text-field in Portal forms?

In a database the content in a varchar2 field could include a link:
'Shortname <a ref="#" title="Full or long item name">Long name</a>'
In a Portal report this field is displayed like:
Shortname {color:#0000ff}_Long name_

where the last part is a link. When pointing to this link with the mouse, the full item name is displayed. If this field is displayed in a Portal form, however, it is displayed exactly as written first:
Shortname <a ref="#" title="Full or long item name">Long name</a>
Could anybody tell how this field could be displayed as a link in Portal forms? The field itself does not need to be updated, it serves as an identifier for trailing fields in the details of a MD-form. If the long name should be displayed in the field, you would need to scroll horizontal to see the other details.

Yes your point is clearer now. You wish to see an abridged form of a field data with the facility to see the full data when you hover on that data. just like what we see sometimes in hyperlinks.
Both of the methods I told you work to display a modified data value* (without modifying them in the databse) and I floated them after testing. Have used slightly different functionalities in some applications a while back.
To get the 'mouse hover' display, you may want to use the java-script event-handlers of the form elements.
Both methods work with the premise that we do not want to change field data in DB; only displayed-data needs to be different.
1. The idea to edit info using sql-queries or functions from default value attribute work is the main thing. how and what should we edit the data to produce is a plsql-coding problem. So for instance, for a data example like yours, the following works!
assumption: the desired field is LINKS and is a column in PORTAL.TBL_TEST_FORMLINKS

How to link a check box with a text field

Hello, I'm looking for some help with my PDF form. If a check box is checked then I would like to force the user to input a value a related text field. First, is this possible and if so can anyone give me some guidance on how to achinve this. I'm currently using LiveCycle 8.0..

Linking/Grouping Text Fields with a Check Box Field

Disclaimer: I know nothing about coding/scripting in Acrobat (or in any language, for that matter).
I have 4 sets of text fields, call them A, B, C, and D. All of the fields in set A will have a value entered. There are 10 fields in set A while sets B, C, and D may have as many as 104. Sets B, C, and D will always have a one-to-one-to-one correspondence with each other (B1 is associated with C1 and D1 only and so on). My dilemma/desire is two fold:
First:
I want to be able to group 3 to 4 of the fields in set C if I tick a check box/radio button/whatever field type works. When the fields are grouped, I want their values to be the same within the grouping. These fields should also be ungrouped when the marker field is unchecked/deactivated. No field will ever be in any more than one group.
Second:
I want values for set B to equal a value of set A if there is a value entered in that B's corresponding C field.
Please don't hesitate to point out where I can make any of this clearer.

Sorry, I referenced InDesign and this file was created in Illustrator. (I have been working with numerous files created in both InDesign and Illustrator, with numerous challenges). I do not have the native document nor Illustrator software, only Acrobat. When I previously loaded the InDesign-created pdf file(s) into Acrobat, I was unable to use the Text TouchUp Tool because I do not have the fonts on my system that were used to create the documents in InDesign, thus I am denied access to the text. With this file, created in Ilustrator; I assume because the text resides within the image created that encompasses the entire page, the Text TounchUp Tool and Object Tool have no response when I click on the page after activating the tools with a click, although the Tool Bar allows me to click on the icons to activate the functions.
I have read elsewhere that InDesign and Illustrator files are exported as images, thus requiring either Photoshop or Illustrator to fully edit outside of the originating software. However, I was hoping that I could create interactive forms by overlaying fields with Live Cycle Designer - I did not anticipate the default setting of the check box labels being unchangeable. Sounds like I am at a dead-end with this issue??
