Text in table looks poor (fuzzy)

Hello there
I just updated to the new Pages and I opened an old document that I had created in Pages version 4.
The regular text looks OK, but text in a table looks real poor (fuzzy). -- but it looks OK on the screen.
Anyone else seen this behavior????
Eric W.

Found the problem!!!
first of all Jeff thanks for your reply. Just for info, I am using two semi-profesional Ricoh printers (430DN and 305SPF), both have drivers for Mavericks released by Ricoh and Apple. Drives are updated to the last version.
I also just did a clean install of Mavericks two day ago on an iMac 27 I7 due to HDD change. I am also using another iMac 27 and a Macbook Air. I tested the printouts on all Macs and recognized that the quality on the one whch just got the clean install were fine! So my first suggestion was that probably old system files had an influence on the printing quality. So I tested and tested and then I found a small diffrence which has only to do with the printer configuration.
The printers on the "old iMacs" were installed as network printers using printer IP address. The printers on the "new iMac" were just installed via Bonjour. And this is the  small but important difference.
With Pages 5.2 on all Macs printing via Bonjour the text quality is fine! When printin via IP the text quality within tables is bad, the rest is also fine.
I hope this might be helpful for others with the same issue.

  • Conversion with Conditional Text in Table

    I'm taking the first steps in converting Unstructured Frame to Structure. One document is pretty clean except for one issue: my structure breaks around conditional text in tables. (The tables have a f3ew issues oftheir own, but the conditional text seems to compound the problem) I'm not sure how this should be dealt with. The structure tags are shown in the view below.
    And here is the Structure View:
    Is this something that can be set up with a qualifier, and if so, How? Also, in the conversion map table, Is there any order dependency, as well, concerning where the Conditional Text element appears?

    Jane,
    As far as I am concerned I do not see anything unexpected. You get dotted lines in the Structure View apparently because the element <B1_Body1> seems not to be allowed in the Element <CELL>. It looks like you worked with the defaults of the Conversion Table. Have you created your own EDD and imported the Element Definitions? Is <B1_Body1> a legal element inside <CELL>?
    From my experience the Conditional Text feature works very much in parallel to the element structure. It comes from the format-based world and the structure has no means to handle text conditions. If you want to work with text conditions in the future, you would use »attribute-based condition management« as made possible through the plug-in AXCM or FrameMaker’s built-in feature »Filter by attribute«. There is no built-in method to change text conditions into certain attribute values – but it is possible to automate this move via the FDK or FrameScript or ExtendScript (from FM10).

  • Pages 5.1 truncates text in tables

    Just discovered that Pages 5.1 truncates text in tables when exported to Pdf's even when created in Numbers and pasted. Superscripts were missing. Sometimes regular text after superscrips were missing. Too bad.

    It's a bug. Until fixed, you'll have to avoid baseline shift or use an earlier version of Pages. Submit Feedback from the Pages menu to let Apple know you are finding this bug.

  • "Convert Text to Table" Size limit issue?

    Alphabetize a List
    I’ve been using this well known work around for years.
    Select your list and in the Menu bar click Format>Table>Convert Text to Table
    Select one of the column’s cells (1st click selects entire table, 2nd click selects individual cell)
    Open “Table Inspector” (Click Table icon at top of Pages document)
    Make sure “table” button is selected, not “format” button
    Choose Sort Ascending from the Edit Rows & Columns pop-up menu
    Finally, click Format>Table>Convert Table to Text.
    A few days ago I added items & my list was 999 items long, ~22 pages.
    Tonight, I added 4 more items. Still the same # pages but now 1,003 items long.
    Unable to Convert Text to Table! Tried for 45 minutes. I think there is a list length limit, perhaps 999 items?
    I tried closing the document w/o any changes. Re-opening Pages & re-adding my new items to the end of the list as always & once again when I highlight list & Format>Table>Convert Text to Table .....nothing happens! I could highlight part of the list up to 999 items & leave the 4 new items unhighlighted & it works. I pasted the list into a new doc and copied a few items from the middle of the list & added them to the end of my new 999 list to make it 1003 items long (but different items) & did NOT work. I even attempted to add a single new item making the list an even 1000 items long & nope, not working. Even restarted iMac, no luck.
    I can get it to work with 999 or fewer items easily as always but no way when I add even a single new item.
    Anyone else have this problem?  It s/b easy to test out. If you have a list of say, 100 items, just copy & repeatedly paste into a new document multiple times to get over 1,000 & see if you can select all & then convert it from text to table.
    Thanks!
    Pages 08 v 3.03
    OS 10.6.8

    G,
    Yes, Pages has a table size limit, as you have discovered. Numbers has a much greater capacity for table length, so if you do your sort in Numbers you won't have any practical limitation.
    A better approach than switching to Numbers for the sort would be to download, install and activate Devon Wordservice. Then you could sort your list without converting it to a table.

    Is there a way for my daughter or her friends to block their numbers from showing up on activities page. At first i could see them, as of yesterday i can no longer see the numbers in the activities page. But i do see that she has texted them when looking at her phone.

    First of all, there is no need to put the entire text of your post into the title of your thread.
    Next, does your daughter have an iPhone? Do her friends have iPhones? If the answer to both questions is "yes", then it is possible she is not texting them, but using iMessage to communicate with them. iMessages will not show up in the texting traffic on a line as they are not texts, but messages sent thru Apple's servers.
    For all "texts" to show up in the texting activity of an iPhone, you must disable iMessage on the device. Any messages sent as iMessages(blue bubbles around the text) on an iPhone will not show up in any texting activity.

    Since this morning all text in firefox looks slightly different - I think it still uses the same font, but renders it differently!? I would like to have it changed back to what it was. Any help is welcome.
    Some facts:
    - Happens only in Firefox (IE & Chrome still look the same)
    - Already did a reset to defaults
    I'm using the latest version of Firefox
    Screenshot can be found here: [http://www.ka-pow.net/media/images/firefoxissue.jpg link text]

    Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: <b>View/Beeld > Zoom > Reset</b> (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

    Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.
    Use "Firefox > Options" instead of "Tools/Extra > Options" if the menu bar is hidden.

    When I copy and paste text in facebook, the text looks fine until I hit 'share' or 'comment' to submit it. Firefox then adds indiscriminate line-feeds within the text and it looks nothing like the original text. It makes it very difficult to read and awful to look at.
    This does not happen in Safari.
    (Mac OSX 10.6.4 with Firefox 3.6.6).

    Same problem, 3.6.8 and previous recent versions. I never thought to try another browser but I just pasted into IE and it worked fine. I copied from Firefox to IE and it worked as well. It's just when you paste into Firefox that you get the weird line breaks.

  • Itallic Text in Table header

    Hello All,
    We are using the TableView Control in one of our aplications to display search results.When we built this particular application we were on EP6 SP2 PL 29.
    Some how in that version teh header text in the tabledataview control was displaying italic text.
    We used the following piece of code do this.
    bean.setSearchHeader("Search Result(s) For: <i>"+ bean.getSearchString()+ " </i>("+ mySearch.getTrueResults()+ ")");"
    This would display the keyword we searched for in Italic.
    Now we have migrated from EP6 SP2 to EP6 SP16.
    The correct portal version is:
    J2EE Engine 6.40 PatchLevel 102141.313
    Portal 6.0.16.0.0
    KnowledgeManagementCollaboration 6.0.16.3.0 (NW04 SPS16 Patch3)
    Now in this particular version when we search for any keywords.
    The results are displayed but the header data does not show the keyword in Italics, however it displayes the "<i>" tag.
    Let me know whether we can display italic text in table Header.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi,
    to customize the header of the TableView change the header renderer.
    1. implement IHeaderRenderer interface:
    public class HeaderRenderer implements IHeaderRenderer {
    public void renderHeader(TableView tableView, IPageContext pcontext) {
      TextView tv = new TextView();
      tv.setEncode(false);
      tv.setText("<i>italic header text</i>");
      tv.render(pcontext);
    public boolean willRenderHeader(TableView tableView, IPageContext pcontext) {
      //allways render
      return true;
    2. set the header renderer class to your TableView object:
    tableView.setHeaderRenderer(new HeaderRenderer());
    this should show the text in the table header in italics.

  • Thumbnails in Elements 6 Look Slightly Fuzzy

    I use Elements 6 and have noticed my Organizer thumbnails look slightly fuzzy when veiwed as a thumbnail and even when I double click on a thumbnail it still looks slightly fuzzy or not very sharp in Organizer. When I view my thumbnails in "Windows Photo Gallery" the pictures look very sharp. The pictures also look sharp when viewed in Elements Editor. Can anyone expalin how to get sharp thumbnails in Elements 6 or what I might be doing wrong? Thanks.....

    I just did a comparison of Windows Live Photo Gallery (the updated version that you need to download) and PSE 7.  It seems that the relative sharpness of thumbnails varies as you change thumbnail sizes, and that sometimes WLPG was sharper and sometimes PSE 7 sharper.   If you have a blatant example of Photo Gallery looking much sharper, perhaps you could upload a screen shot of both at www.pixentral.com and post the URL here.
    An educated guess: I think that WLPG precomputes and stores 4 different thumbnail sizes (32, 96, 256, and 1024 pixels wide), and I'm not sure, but PSE may do the same. But if they have different stored sizes, then it's possible that at some actual thumbnail sizes, one will look sharper than the other.
