Text with gradients and outlines and multicolors

Friends,
A buddy of mine created text by "doubling" in ILLUSTRATOR.
I don't like the way it looks: can INDD do better? How?
Here's the relevant screen shot:

InDesign and Illustrator are just pieces of software - it's the end user that makes the final decision on how it looks.

Ok, so I have 2 group texts. They have the same people in them. However, i am getting 2 peoples texts in one and 2 peoples texts in the other. And yes, ive already checked to see which one they were using and they are all using the same one, even the 2 whom im getting texts from in the different one.

  • How do I create transparent text with gradient stroke?

I'm creating text that will be printed on a deep gray to black tshirt.
I created text, added an offset path to it with a gradient, and a deep gray color fill on top, achieving the gradient stroke.  However, I'm not exactly sure what color the shirt itself will be, other than deep gray to black.  And I didn't want the deep gray/black fill in my text to appear and look awkward on the shirt.  Unless that is something I shouldn't be considered about.
To be safe, how would you create transparent text with a gradient stroke?  I'm using Illustrator CS5.

    aimsrandom,
Based on a guess that you wish to have the stroke fade into the basic tshirt colour, you may use transparency rather than colour.
But the transparent text in the headline raises a few questions.
No fill colour for the Type/text, or different fill and (basic) stroke colour, or?

  • I have a Text control string box with some initial text. I would like to highlight old text with click of mouse and type in new data from keyboard

I have a text control string box with some initial text (says: Please enter Name). I would like the operator to click on the text control box and have it automatically highlight so that when new data is typed in the old erases (all at once) and the new data is now in the text box.
I tried using the "Text.Selection" property node and when I run it and put the mouse inside the text box the initial text is highlighted and if I press "delete" on the keyboard or if I start to type in new data the initial data does delete but once I start to type new characters they erase each other. For example if I want to type in “Willi
am” I type the “W” and then the “I” but the “I” erases the “W” and now I am only left with an “I” in the text box and so on. I appreciate any help

It seems you are continuously setting the property node over and over again. This should only happen once if you mouse over it.
Create a property node for your text control with the following three items:
    (1) KeyFocus (wire a "true" constant to it)
    (2) Text.SelStart (Wire a "zero" constant to it)
    (3) Text.SelEnd (Wire a constant containing the string length of the text).
Put this property node inside an event structure, triggered by "Mouse enter" on the string control.
(see if the attached example works for you)

  • CSS text shadow and outline.

Can I make a red text with a black outline and a shadow in
    css?

Yes - I pointed that out much earlier in the thread. OP
    didn't see the
relevance of it to the question, though. I thought a little
    demo would
    suffice.

  • AE - Render differs from preview (get red outline and red layer)

Please excuse a newbie... I'm using AE and all looks good with the text I create.. I add a pre-set animation and then render to swf file. Sometimes all goes well, but most of the time I get a red hue over the graphics or the text gets an outline. See examples here...
This swf file rendered perfect.. all silver text and good reflection:
    http://www.denmasterstudios.com/vision.html
This swf file (from the same AE document, I only changed the text) rendered with a red outline and red hue over the reflection:
    http://www.denmasterstudios.com/hardware.html
It is kind of hard to explain, hence the examples. Thanks for taking the time to check it out. I'm spending too much time trying to diagnose.

Hello all and thanks for the tips. I really appreciate your help. After having it work sometimes and sometimes not, I definitely checked most everything you all mentioned. I really thought the answer shouuld have been in the areas you all pointed to... but I got lucky and found it somewhere else... maybe this was a newbie thing, but I'm willing to swallow my pride and cough it up...
My file was created from following Creative Cow's "reflection" tutorial step by step... in the tutorial, you "pre-compose" your text layer and create another layer below it. This other layer becomes your reflection.
    Here's what was happening:
When I export to .swf, if I am viewing the pre-composed layers in the "comp" viewing area, I will get the red hue around stuff during the render, but not in the preview. If I switch from the pre-composed layers, back to the main layers, and view the main "comp" at the highest level and then render, I get a perfect render... make sense? perhaps it was human error... I just felt that the render would always look like what you are previewing. Make sure you render from the main layers and not while still looking at a pre-composed layer...
    thanks again all!

  • Gray box wtih outline and ! symbol

In my library I have 500+ photos in 3 folders and 7 albums. In some albums I can double click on a photo and edit it with no problem . In others all I get is a gray box with a dashed outline and the ! symbol in the middle of it. Anybody know why this is happening?

Tut tut. The cardinal rule of iPhoto: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.
Some background: iPhoto is a database, and like any database it requires that you manipulate the data (in this case your pics) via the app itself, and not through a back door like the Finder. However, the good news is that Anything you need to do can be done via the iPhoto Window.
    First, to repairs:
Unless you can return things to the way the were you'll need to create and populate anew library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
That done, you're library should be working. My guess is that you renamed things in the iPhoto Library Folder because you thought it would make things easier to find? well, There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Rolls in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Roll Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library Folder. You can move photos between Rolls, you can rename rolls, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Roll Name using the Info Pane, the Roll Folder in iPhoto Library Folder/Originals will also have the new name.
Hope this helps, and if you need more help or clarification, by all means post again.
    Regards
    TD

  • 3d text with missing fill

I have some text that has been outlined and has a white stroke aligned to the outside.  When I add the 3d extrude and bevel effect the 'E' loses its fill.  Any ideas why this would happen?

The text is filled with a gradient?
If you want to apply a gradient to a 3D object, then rather apply it as mapping.
See the manual on how to map 3D objects in Illustrator.

  • Why can I now highlight text with mouse pointer in Adobe Reader 9

I just downloaded Adobe Reader X. I think I prefer Reader 9. I don't like being able to click in the document and have a flashing place mark (right terminology?) there. This is now happening in the Reader 9 version too, and I can copy text this way, but I don't want this. I didn't change any preferences. Can anyone help?

Like I said, I didn't change any of the preferences, so I don't know why this happened. I think it only happened after I opened Adobe Reader X. I see no options in preferences for turning on or off the ability to highlight text with your mouse pointer, and I thought you were not supposed to be able to do this in Adobe Reader 9.

  • Import text with effect

    Hi
is there a way to import text with effect (like bevel and emboss) from Photoshop into Flash CS4?
    Thanks

You are more likely to get an answer if you ask in the Flash forum (this is the Flash Player forum).

  • Creating text using outlines and gradients/fills

I've been using pages awhile, and I make a lot of posters with it for my classroom. I know it has some limitations.
I really want to take text, make a bold black outline of it (format > font > outline), and then fill it with a gradient, or at least a fill color. I am able to color, or outline, but not both, and I cannot find the option to make gradients except on backgrounds or shapes. Is there a way to do that in 2.0, before the next update?

    Welcome to the forums.
This can indeed be done, but it is a very cumbersome process, because the text needs to be made into an object, and that can't be done from within Pages.
The process involves creating the text in some external drawing application (such as Illustrator or the free Inkscape, saving the file as an SVG file, using svg2key to convert the SVG file into Keynote objects, then copying those from Keynote into Pages (which uses the same object format as Keynote).
Once you have these as objects, you can reuse them as you like, changing their colour, stroke, and size like any other object, so you may only need to do this once for an "alphabet" that you reuse.
I certainly do hope that the next update lets one create outline text directly within Pages.

  • Giving text outline stroke and path and uniting with other paths

How do I give Lucida handwriting a 2pt outline stroke, give it an outline path, then unite it with another shape path without the text losing it's outline stroke??  I can't bold Lucida handwriting as it only has an italic option, so need to give it an outline stroke to achieve a bold letter.  As soon as I give it an outline path and unite it to other shape paths the 'bold'ness disappears and it reverts to it's original size.  I hope this makes sense!  Any help would be appreciated.

    You are welcome, drive.
What you will be looking for is what is called a flowing script (probably a casual flowing script); script fonts are those remembling handwriting.
You may have a look at this website, where you can click (Formal or) Casual Flowing Script and see many different ones (which may give you an overview and possibly some inspiration),
    http://www.bowfinprintworks.com/Script07Pg1.html
or you can just search the web for (casual) flowing script font.

  • Making a PDF with "Outline" and Bookmarks Using Pages

Hi, I'm using Pages 1 and I have tried making a PDF with outline breaks but I failed. I thought using paragraph styles for my document would work but when I exported my document to PDF, all I got was a PDF that only has the thumbnails view but not the outline view. Also, when I exported my document that has bookmarks to PDF, all the bookmarks don't work anymore. How can I make a PDF document using Pages with all the bookmarks and the organization just like other PDFs that I encounter? Thanks

    Hello LadyinStilettos,
welcome to the Pages Discussions. If I remember correct, in Pages 1.x there is no way to export text links to PDF. An outline view creation doesn't exist.
If you want to have links in PDF (of the TOC, too), then you should upgrade to iWork'06. But outline view doesn't exist here like it doesn't in version 1.x.

  • 3D Text - Gradients are rasterized and causes color banding

    Hi All
I have applied a 3D>Extrude and Bevel on my text. Now problem is that when doing it, my border(part that is extruded) causes a color banding, since it rasterizes
the gradients. See my image below.
How do I take away those nasty lines?
    Thank you

Gradients are always rasterized when using the 3D effect:
But what you show in your image isn't really rasterization.
Fill the shape with a flat color and let the 3D lighting alter the values. Or, apply the 3D effect with "no Shading" then Object > Expand Appearance and apply your gradients afterwards.
Illustrator's 3D is not "top-of-the-line" and often requires exapanding and refining after using the effect.

  • Merge Text and Outline to create cut contour

Hi there just wondering if anyone can help. I have a Roland Printer cutter and want to create text with its outline and then create a cut contour line around both. The problem I have is it creates two cut contour lines (one around the text itself and one around the text outline). This is a problem because my cutter then cuts out the text and its outline. Can anyone help create on cut contour line around the entire text outline?

    I think I  understand
    1. after you give your text a stroke (outline)
    2. select the text with the direct select or selection tool
    3. Go to the Appearance panel and from the flyout select Add New Stroke
    4. The stroke will be black and 1 pt and centered in you Outline (stroke)
    5. Change the Strokeweight to the weight of the cut line, I think it is .25 pts but you know better than me.
    6. Highlight the .25 pt black stroke in the Appearance panel
    7. Go to Effects>Path>Offset Path and give it an offse half the weight of your Outline (Stroke)
Now the cutline will be where you want it
