Text within single quotes

Hello Everybody,
I have a requirement wherein i need to take out text which exists within single quotes.
For eg:
string1 = Hi ' I am within single quotes' .
here i need to take the text which is inside single quotes aside.
Kindly provide me a solution.
Thanks and Regards
Manish

Use SPLIT.
TYPES: BEGIN OF ITAB_TYPE,
        WORD(20),
      END   OF ITAB_TYPE.
DATA: ITAB TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF ITAB_TYPE WITH
                NON-UNIQUE DEFAULT KEY INITIAL SIZE 5.
SPLIT 'Hi '' I am within single quotes''' AT '''' INTO TABLE ITAB.
So you will have the entire string in the second record of the table.
Note that working with single quotes in ABAP makes you use twice single quotes, in order to avoid ending the string.

  • How to make search string for the searched text containing single quote?

    Hi all,
    When trying to search some Contacts from Eloqua, I have to make a search string which would list out some specified EmailAddress.
    Unfortunately, I meet several emails who have single quote in their spelling.
    I got 'invalid format' error when both using them directly and making single quote twice.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Biao

    When testing, the following examples:
    GET /Api/rest/1.0/data/contacts?search=emailAddress=bm'[email protected]
    GET /Api/rest/1.0/data/contacts?search='emailAddress=bm'[email protected]'
    GET /Api/rest/1.0/data/contacts?search=emailAddress="bm'[email protected]"
    GET /Api/rest/1.0/data/contacts?search="emailAddress=bm'[email protected]"
    All return:
      "elements":
        "type":"Contact",
        "id":"1421620",
        "createdAt":"1419611518",
        "depth":"minimal",
        "name":"bm'[email protected]",
        "updatedAt":"1419611519",
        "emailAddress":"bm'[email protected]"
      "page":1,
      "pageSize":1000,
      "total":1
    Likewise, the following returns nothing:
    GET /Api/rest/1.0/data/contacts?search=emailAddress='bm'[email protected]'

    That is ColdFusion escaping the single quotes, by doubling
    them so that
    you can search for strings such as "singhpk's code does not
    work".
    (Note the single quote/apostrophe that would normally break
    this string
    if it was not escaped.
    To tell CF not to do this, one uses the
    preserveSingleQuotes() function.
    The documentation has all the details.

  • Problem in displaying single quotes

    Hi,
    I have applied the quotes but its still not working in the way I want. Like,
    concatenate v_constantname '= ' ''''itab_split-constantname'''' into v_string2 separated by space.
    concatenate v_linenum '= ' ''''itab_split-linenum''''
         into v_string1 separated by space.
    concatenate v_string1 ' and ' v_string2 into itab_where-line separated by space.
    This is the code and the concatenation is done for a dynamic where clause. The value of itab_split-linenum and itab_split-constantname should be within single quotes, e.g., it should be
    C_LINE_NUM = '000047'  and
    C_NAME = 'CR_Z001_EMPLOYEE_COMPANY'
    But it is coming like the following:
    C_LINE_NUM = ' 000047 '  and
    C_NAME = ' CR_Z001_EMPLOYEE_COMPANY '
    There should not be any space between the value and the quotes. How to do it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sangeeta.

    hi Sangeetha
    concatenate '''' itab_split-constantname '''' into v_string1.
    concatenate '''' itab_split-linenum '''' v_string2.
    concatenate v_constantname '=' v_string1 v_linenum '=' v_string2 into itab_where-line separated by space.
    Hope this 1 helps.

  • Single quotes problem with execute immediate

    Thanks for considering to solve the issue.
    [i]Situation:
    I am trying to create a procedure to perform a set of operations. As part of that, I am trying to create a table using execute immediate statement. This create table statement has a select sub query where p_LOB3 is the variable for the procedure of datatype varchar2.
    Problem :
    I need to pass the variable p_LOB3 as single quoted as it is of type Varchar2. Also I need to enclose the entire create table query within single quotes. How do I specify this as it is throwing an error when the PL/SQL engine is parsing the single quotes in the query used twice for different purposes as mention earlier.
    Query:
    execute immediate'create table test5 as select min(contract_number)as contract_number,contact_id,max(line_of_business) as line_of_business from mytable group by contact_id having min(contract_number) = max(contract_number) and max(Line_of_business) = 'p_LOB3' ';

    Thank you Todd,
    Is just worked fine.
    New issue is: I am not able to put 2 such statements in a single procedure and execute. Before I give parameters to the procedure, PL/SQL engine is actually creating a view of the mytable and naming is as test5, as a result I am not able to create a table as there is a view with the same name.
    Right now, the workaround I am using is to create three different procedures to create three such tables. I know this is not a good idea....can you please tell me if there is a better way.
    Procedure
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE SP_CREATE_0_0(p_LOB1 IN varchar2, p_LOB2 IN varchar2)
    IS
    BEGIN
    execute immediate 'create table test5 as select min(contract_number) as
    contract_number,contact_id,max(line_of_business) as line_of_business from
    mytable group by contact_id having min(contract_number) = max(contract_number)
    and max(Line_of_business) = ' ' ' || p_LOB1 || ' ' ' ';
    execute immediate 'create table test5 as select min(contract_number) as
    contract_number,contact_id,max(line_of_business) as line_of_business from
    mytable group by contact_id having min(contract_number) = max(contract_number)
    and max(Line_of_business) = ' ' ' || p_LOB1 || ' ' ' ';
    END SP_CREATE_0_0;

  • Can we have a Single quote in the tooltip text?

    Hi,
    We have some tooltips for the presentation columns which contains a single quote.
    When I try to view the tooltip from answers the single quote is being replaced by double quotes.
    I tried to use all sorts of escape characters for single quote, like "\'" and ''' and "'" but that didn't work.
    Is there any way to do this.
    Thanks!!
    Vasantha.P

    As I said in my earlier post, I am looking for the tooltips for the Presentation tables and columns. The tooltips for these were extracted from the RPD using the externalize Strings option and these externalized strings are stored in the database.
    So I am escaping the single using a single quote both in rpd and in the database.
    Example text I have used both in the rpd and database is something like "Shipment's start time". I tried with "Shipment''s start time", " Shipment'''s start time", but it didn't work.
    Thanks!!

  • URGENT  update a table with a text that has a single quote in it

    Hello, I am trying to update a table with a text that has a single quote in it. I believe I need to use two singles quotes but I am not sure how.
    For example:
    UPDATE TEST
    SET DESCRLONG='Aux fins d'exportations'
    WHERE etc...
    Should I put 2 singles quotes before the quote in the text?
    UPDATE TEST
    SET DESCRLONG='Aux fins d'''exportations'
    WHERE etc...
    Thank you very much :)

    The best way depends on the version of Oracle.
    But, the quick and universal answer is to use two single quotes
    SQL> connect test/test
    Connected.
    SQL> create table test (descrlong varchar2(128));
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into test values ('This is a string with a '' single quote');
    1 row created.
    SQL> select * from test;
    DESCRLONG
    This is a string with a ' single quote
    SQL> update test set descrlong='Aux fins d''exportations'
      2  where descrlong like 'T%';
    1 row updated.
    SQL> select * from test;
    DESCRLONG
    Aux fins d'exportations

  • Single quote used with in text data renders to inalid display

    I have the following text snipit that is coming from an Oracle database column: ...did not include 'special decontamination'. New ...
    I am putting this into a pretty standard text object.  When the report is previewed and subsequently printed as a PDF each single quote is transformed to the text string &_#_3_9_; code (without the underscores). This also occurs for quotation marks appearing as &_q_u_o_t_; and ampersands appearing as &_;_a_m_p_;
    I've tried changing the text interpretation property from none to rtf and, with a refresh, nothing changed.  It is hard for me to believe that no one else has seen this but since you can not search the forum for this string (as it converts it to the single quote) may not one has asked.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Don,
    The CLOB would do it.
    Not sure there is a way around this aside from how you've already been dealing with it.
    To simply your formula a bit, you don't need to do a loop just have it check for each of the tags like:
    stringVar TempText := {PPR_Main.CONCERNS};
    TempText := Replace (TempText, '&_#_3_9_;', "'") ;
    TempText := Replace (TempText, '&_;_a_m_p_', "&") ;
    TempText := Replace (TempText, '&_q_u_o_t_;', '"') ;
    TempText
    I agree though that there may be other tags added later on based on other characters so it could be infinite.  Try the common characters like Exclamation and Question marks.
    Good luck,
    Brian

  • Reading String within the single quotes

    Hi All,
    Can you please let me know, how to read a String within the sinle quote in line.
    I have to read a report into internal table and again from that I need to read a string within the single quote. Please help me in this.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Raghu

    I have the following code:
    REPORT  test.
    DATA:  v_test(05) TYPE c.
    v_test = ‘TTT’.
    I am getting this errror:
    Field “TTT” is unknown.  It is neither kin on e of the specified tables nor defined by a “DATA” statement.
    For some reason, my single quote is not being recognized from my keyboard.  I noticed that my emotion icons are not being displayed either (example:  I type and i do NOT get the smiley face on my end).
    Is there a button that I pressed that caused that?

  • Need Double quotes instead of Single quotes in output XML version header

    In XML output generated by XDODTEXE executable, its observed that header row looks like this:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>
    It should look like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    Browsers like IE deceive. Opening the XML in Text editors show single quotes and spaces.
    Data Template and XSL template files have proper headers with double quotes.
    The output XML file is rejected by a Government Authority as parsing the header line fails.
    Are there any ways to configure this?

    I dont know if this has anything to do with my problem or not, but I thought I should add this:
    When a user is filling out the form that has the textarea,  they put whatever text they want into the textarea field.
    textarea name="text"></textarea
    Then, they click on a 'Continue' button and the system shows them a preview of what they are about to have inserted
    into the database.
    Within the code on this preview page is a hidden field, which holds the contents of their textarea data so it can be
    passed on through the process once the user verifies the preview.
    This is done using this: input type="hidden" name="text" value="<cfoutput>#text#</cfoutput>"
    Like I said, I don't know if that has anything to do with this problem, but thought it might be good to mention it
    Kudos

  • Problem with lookup-table and single quotes

    SOA Suite 10.1.3.3. I have an ESB project with an XSLT map that uses orcl:lookup-table to translate values. I use this instead of lookup-dvm because I want non-IT users to manage the mappings without having access to the ESB Console.
    According to the doco:-
    G.1.79 lookup-table
    orcl:lookup-table(table, inputColumn, key, outputColumn, datasource)
    This function returns a string based on the SQL query generated from the parameters.
    The string is obtained by executing:
    SELECT outputColumn FROM table WHERE inputColumn = key
    The problem I'm having is that it seems if "key" contains a single quote (i.e an apostrophe), then lookup-table fails to find the corresponding value - even though the value in table.inputColumn also contains the single quote.
    I've put the incoming into an XSL variable, but to no avail.
    <xsl:variable name="incoming">
    <xsl:value-of select="/obj1:DEV_MESSAGE_TYP/DATA1"/>
    </xsl:variable>
    <xsl:variable name="dvm-text">
    <xsl:value-of select="orcl:lookup-table('MYTABLE','INVAL',$incoming,'OUTVAL','ds/dev')"/>
    </xsl:variable>
    Are there any XSLT Gurus out there that have come across this or can think of ways around it?
    Thanks in advance...
    Regards,
    Greg

    Ok - the above was on the right track but wasn't 100% because it can't handle more than 1 single quote (apostrophe) in the input to lookup-table.
    I've since found a better solution - an XSLT re-usable template that operates recursively and so can replace multiple occurances of single quotes. I've modified it to handle a null input value, otherwise lookup-table will just return the value of the first row in the lookup table - doh! The way I've done it below, if null is passed in, then null will be returned.
    This goes at the top of your XSLT map file...
    <!-- reusable replace-string function -->
    <xsl:template name="replace-string">
    <xsl:param name="text"/>
    <xsl:param name="from"/>
    <xsl:param name="to"/>
    <xsl:choose>
    <xsl:when test="contains($text, $from)">
         <xsl:variable name="before" select="substring-before($text, $from)"/>
         <xsl:variable name="after" select="substring-after($text, $from)"/>
         <xsl:value-of select="$before"/>
         <xsl:value-of select="$to"/>
    <xsl:call-template name="replace-string">
    <xsl:with-param name="text" select="$after"/>
    <xsl:with-param name="from" select="$from"/>
    <xsl:with-param name="to" select="$to"/>
         </xsl:call-template>
    </xsl:when>
    <xsl:when test="$text=''">NULL</xsl:when>
    <xsl:otherwise>
    <xsl:value-of select="$text"/>
    </xsl:otherwise>
    </xsl:choose>
    </xsl:template>
    Then you call it from within the XSLT map as follows:-
    <!-- if contains a single quote, replace with 2x single quotes. This makes lookup-table work! -->
    <xsl:variable name="incoming">
    <xsl:call-template name="replace-string">
    <xsl:with-param name="text" select="inp1:myinputfield"/>
    <xsl:with-param name="from">'</xsl:with-param>
    <xsl:with-param name="to" select="'&amp;apos;&amp;apos;'"/>
    </xsl:call-template>
    </xsl:variable>
    <xsl:variable name="dvm-text">
    <xsl:value-of select="orcl:lookup-table('MYLOOKUPTABLE','INVAL',$incoming,'OUTVAL','ds/dev')"/>
    </xsl:variable>
    <!-- lookup-table returns null if input value not found. Output original value instead -->
    <xsl:choose>
    <xsl:when test="$dvm-text=''">
    <xsl:value-of select="inp1:myinputfield"/>
    </xsl:when>
    <xsl:otherwise>
    <xsl:value-of select="$dvm-text"/>
    </xsl:otherwise>
    </xsl:choose>

  • How can I will declare the symbol u2018 (Single Quote) in the report

    Hi ,
    Could you please tell me how can I will declare the symbol u2018 (Single Quote) in the report.
    My requirement is that I have concate the data with single quote and after that I have to store the data in to an internal table and I have to download the data in the form text file in the presentation server.
    For example :
    Let the below data I want to download into the presentation serve in the format of text file by storing in internal table.
    Assume all are constants:
    1st line : abcu2019add
    2nd line :  defu2019gef
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jyothi,
    Thanks for the quick reply .
    I can agree with you are point but My requirement is like this I am explaining clearly.
    I have declared the internal table like this.
    DATA: BEGIN OF OTAB OCCURS 0,
             LINE (9024),
           END OF OTAB.
    So I have to append the each line item into the internal table.
    So I am explaining what the data I have to append
    Ist line contains
    'UNBUNOC:2020308u2019 where 020308 I will get the  date from reguh table
    2nd line contains:
    'DTM+20020510' where the 20020510 will be reference document number from the table reguh.
    So I want to declare a constant 'UNBUNOC:2
    2nd the date from reguh table
    And another constant u2018
    So that I can concate all the three and I can put into string and I will append into internal table and I can download the data into the presentation server.
    Please let me know if you need any more clarification regarding my requirement.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Adding a single quote in the flash chart legend

    Hi all,

    I need the No of Clicks to be displayed as
