Hi
Im using a TextArea to display HTML text.
<mx:TextArea width="100%" height="100%"
htmlText="{data.text}" />
it contains :
<![CDATA[
something here
<li> one </li>
<li> two </li>
]]>
it seams to insert 2 new line between each <li> or \n
in the text !
Can you help me ?
I don't think it's a case of TextArea.htmlText not working so much as it's a case of there not being an htmlText property for the TextArea in AS2. AS3 versions support it, but I believe in AS2 you need to specify the html property to be true and assign the text to the text property.

it is perfectly possible to link that example up to dynamic data instead, it just requires of bit of reading into it and understanding their code, and then a sit down and think for a few minutes of using the functions already created for you.
i'm somewhat skeptical about spoon feeding an answer when 95% of the work has already been done and found for you, there's nothing to learn that way.
personally i'd suggest going away and have a play with it for a while and try to get it working, if you still can't figure it out come back with what you've tried and i'd be more then happy to help you with it then -
Hi All,
I am using a Flex textArea control and recently i found an interesting behaviour while using htmlText property of the TextArea.
By default the htmlText has "<P align=''left' /> tag.When i added bullets to the text it adds the "<LI>" tag to the text and get rid of the the "<P/>" tag.
The problem is that,when i add bullets and the right align the text,it displays fine on the textArea ,but since the htmlText does not have the "<P/>" tag,when i send the htmlText to the backend to generate the .jpg preview of the screen,it is not aligning the text to right.
Bottom line:"when text right aligned with bullets,htmlText does not have "<P/>" tag and only have "<LI/>" tag.
Does anyone know about this issue?
Any ideas to overcome this issue?

TextArea + htmlText + image + last line = BOOOM !!!
Hi all... I'm trying to implement a simple chat with smile. ( AS3 with Flash CS3, 9 )
Here's a screen result ( with "msn smile" for test )
Now my problem is that when i reach to the end line of the textarea ( or textarea changes its size ) if i try to insert another smile i get this exception and TextArea get mad and ugly!
ArgumentError: Error #2025: Il valore fornito per DisplayObject deve essere un elemento secondario del chiamante.
at flash.text::TextField/set htmlText()
at fl.controls::TextArea/set htmlText()
(Sorry for the italian language of the error text. It says that the value sent to DisplayObject must be a secondary element of the caller)
If i try to insert simple text it work without problem.

I did it ( called invalidateRect() ) but it doesn't fix the problem.
Another strange thing is that if i try to continue to insert smile it overwrite all the present smileys with this result:
When i overwrite all the smileys... and continue to add them no others error happens... And the app seems to work properly :\ sob sob.... -

How to insert embedded image into TextArea htmlText (and add IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR listener).
I unsuccessfully tried to find way to insert embedded image into TextArea via <img> tag. Can you point me out how to do this?
Also, please, tell me how to handle IOErrorEvent from TextArea because adding IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR listener to TextArea doesn't cause any effect when image url of img tag has not been found.

Using link event on textarea with right click
I added 'event:' to the links in a textarea.htmlText because
i need to be able to track when the link is clicked, but
unfortunately this makes the link not work if they try to right
click it to open it in a new window, it also doesn't track the
click, the 'event:' shows in the new browser window url. Is the a

Identify the size of unwrapped text in TextArea
Here is the deal.
I have a popup of fixed width where I dynamically add the textAreas. The PercentWidth of textArea is 100.
Once the long url (as my custom text) is added into the definite textArea.htmlText, the text is wrapped.
What I need is: I'd like to dynamically widen the width of popup if any of textArea has a long text that is going outside the popup borders, so it would not wrap. So far I'd like to have the textArea.textWidth correctly returned, without any wrapping. But since the textArea has already been added as a child to the popup's stage, its size cannot be dynamically extended.
If I simply set the textArea.width to, say, the width of popup, the textArea.textWidth is still the same small like before.
I'm really stopped at this point. Please assist. Thanks.Which version of Flex? If you don't want wrapping text, use Label

Attached below is a code that creates a TextArea and is
programmed to clear the TextArea if the "enter" key is pressed. It
does not seem to work well. The code shows a button control using

onKeyDown event is only triggered when you click enter AND have
focus on the TextArea. You might want to add a more
universally-triggered event like a keyDown on the application

Not able to see legends on Internet Explorer 8
I have a Flex Application that works great in Internet Explorer 9 and Firefox. However with Internet Explorer it does not show the colors for the legends, just the values. Do you guys could give me any ideas what I need to change in my code so that IE 8 shows the legend colors? You can see on the image attached that the colors show correctly on the map but the legend does not show the colors for each values.! Thank you for any help!

Looping through an array to get the index for each measure in a combo box
Hi folks,
I am working on a web application that has two combo boxes, one for year (called yearcombo) and for measures (called myURL) for that selected year, and also two radiobuttons (in radioBtnGroup). I have two years and a bunch of measure for each year. I have a map tool tip that when you mouse over the county you see a measure for that specific year. However I have a bunch of measures for each year and I want to be able to loop through the measures (which are in an array collection inside a combobox) so my "if" expression can find every selectedIndex and bring me the tool tip for that selected measure for that selected radio button. Right now I would have to create if statements for each measure (each selectedIndex inside the myURL combobox)and each radiobutton (inside the radioBtnGroup) instead of creating a if expression to get a map tip tool for each measure. I know I would have to create a loop to search for these indexes and enter that in the if expression and also change the graphic.attributes to reflect the right measure or index selected. Do you API for Flex wizards can give me any tips on how to code this according to my code below ? Any help is greatly appreciated! (the print scree is attached)

Passing variables in an array to jtextarea?
What method could I use to pass different Strings in an array to a jtextarea each time the "Next" button (a JButton) in my JFrame is pressed? So, for example, if i hit next, i might want the word "frank" to print in the jtextarea, but the next time i hit it, i might want it to print "joe" Thank you!!

Flex Mobile 4.6 introduces Stage Text - how do you render HTML text with it?
I have a little chat component in a Flex Mobile app that I just upgraded to SDK 4.6. The chat component has a text area displaying messages and they are HTML formatted via the following:
StyleableTextField(textArea).htmlText += myHTMLText;
Worked in SDK 4.5 but StyleableTextField is not a part of the new Stage Text framework introduced in SDK 4.6.
How do I HTML format the messages in my chat text area now?Thanks much for your response.
Hmmm... That appears to work but also causes a runtime exception where there was none before the 4.6 upgrade. It occurs when I autoscroll on receiving a new message in the chat, something that worked fine in 4.5.
I guess I'm kind of wondering what the best practice is here. Maybe I'm just doing this wrong altogether. I'm finding it very difficult to implement probably one of the most basic features one would find in any collaborative app - something that was very easy in Flex 3 - the chat pane. I've had one functioning fine for about 3 years. Not so much in Flex mobile.
Chat is very simple functionality. When you receive a new message from afar...
1. add it to a TextArea with some nice formatting
2. auto scroll far enough so the user can see the new message in its entirety.
Nothing difficult at all.
Why are these two things difficult to find in the TextArea in Flex mobile? It almost seems as though it's something we're not supposed to be doing?
The answer here seems to be don't use Stage Text. Revert to an older TextArea skin. Why? What text area doesn't need formatting as an option? What text area doesn't need to be auto scrolled here and there? Or am I just going about this wrong? Maybe using the wrong components?
I guess for now I can revert to 4.5 skin, but now the code I used to auto scroll on receiving a new message throws a null pointer exception. I've been using the valueCommit property to auto scroll, as follows:
valueCommit="textArea.scroller.verticalScrollBar.value = textArea.scroller.verticalScrollBar.maximum"
Haven't had a problem prevously. But this now throws:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at com.components::ChatWindow/__textArea_valueCommit()
What's the best practice to accomplish this and also to be able to take advantage of the latest and greatest?
